WOW, I don’t have the words to do this book any justice. It was absolutely amazing. Characters spot on, relationships perfect. The story completely consumed me, I couldn’t have stopped listening to this book if I wanted to. I was entranced with it. When I wasn’t listening to it, I was thinking about it. I highly recommend it!! I’m onto the next book there are 6 books in this series.
I used to love paranormal romances, but lately i lost a little bit my way... I had so many time to read a book from this genre and when i saw it on NetGalley, it was like it was a magnet that was pulling me toward it!!! And damn me, that was soooo good!!!! I freakin' loved it!!!
It was having almost every kind of paranormal creatures inside of it... Angels, demons, vampires, werewolves, Gargoyles... (To be honest, this was my first time of Gargoyles, but i think that for now on, they will be my most favorite creatures out there!!!) I was always fascinating by those mysterious creatures but when they are bound with urban fantasy, the compination is smokin' hot... But let me explain you some things about the plot...
A DIVINE SECRET, A LOYAL PROTECTOR, A FORBIDDEN LOVE.
Eve was an ordinary girl, a little bit sheltered from her aunt, who was in her first semester on college... From the moment that she turned eighteen, the nightmares started to chasing her almost every night in her dreams... ...but except of the awful creatures that was changing her, there was a gorgeous man who swore that he will protect her, always... And then she met Asher St. Michael and her reality changed in many ways...
Asher was a cocky, gorgeous bastard who made Eve losing the ability to speak when she was near to him... He was making her hot and bothered, but at the same time, she just wanted to punch his cocky smirk from his awesome face... Asher was all the god damn time once hot and once cold with her and that was driving her crazy... Until she started to find out the truth...
Eve was being a part on a bigger plan, her presence was very precious in many levels and Asher was her protector... He was bound to protect her in every cost and whatever other relationship could have terrible consequences for both of them and even more people... So they will have to ignore their huge attraction and to stay focus on ther purposes....
"“As you overheard, you’re simply an assignment. My interest in you is professional. I just want to make that clear. I apologize if I gave you a different impression.” Asher’s tone is professional and curt. Pain floods me. I don’t want to give him the satisfaction of knowing just how deep that cuts. I school my features. “Mission accomplished. You mean nothing to me,” I say."
Will Eve accept and embrace her part on this plan from above??? How will she face all these changes around her??? And will she manage to ignore her attraction for Asher??? Will Asher manage to stay just professional with her??? And what about Cage and his own plans???
This story had so many things inside... It had tender moments, hot scenes, sexual tension that was driving me crazy, a very interestng plot, a forbidden love and very interesting characters... It was a wonderful mix of reality and fantasy....
As for Eve and Asher??? God, i loved them both... They were having such an intense connection that it was impossible to ignore... Yep, Eve was losing her ability of speech near to Asher, but damn, she could be a feisty little thing when she was mad and i liked her when she became like that... This girl had a big burden upon her shoulders and she had to change all her life in order to succed on her purpose... As for Asher??? Yep, he was cocky and very self-absorbed, but he had a great reason... He was sending mixed signals all the god damn time and you wanted to slap him and kiss him all the damn time... But he was so loyal and very protective of Eve and i liked this ability of him...
"“When I first saw you, I was completely captivated. I realized there was something different about my bond to you even before our first interaction. I knew you were my fate and I was created to protect and shelter you. I swear to you, I will do that,” he promises."
I also adore all the St. Michael clan, even Kenna... They were unique in their own way... Especially Callan and Abby were so wonderful... I also adored this pink pixie, Ari, with all of my heart and damn, i didn't like the end at all!!!!
“He’s your savior and you’re ours.”
And now, i'm dying to find out everything about those people and their universal plan... And God, i need Asher and Eve together... Pretty please????

I was gripped from the very first page of this book ! I need the next book now!!!! This story is amazing and has me intrigued !!!!! And the writing is phenomenal !!!
I think this book could have really been so much better with a whole different dialogue. I can forgive almost any plot if the dialogue and characterization is enjoyable. But this particular book was lacking in both areas.
It was hard for me to think of this book as New Adult because of the immaturity level of the characters. They sounded like they were in the 12 or 13-year age bracket, with the occasional F-you thrown in to prove they are adult.
I also don't really enjoy the whole "reason you were born prophecy" trope - I can roll with it if it is interesting but I didn't really think this was. Eve,our main character, was created with the blood of Archangels running through her veins and is meant to be the tipping point for the side of Heaven in the continuing battle between Heaven and Hell.
It never explained what she was supposed to be doing but toughening up and learning to fight. This was another of those annoying situations where no one will tell her anything but everyone at one point or another has something snotty to say about the fact that she is ignorant. This absolutely irritates me and it also irritates me that Eve doesn't have enough backbone to stand up to any of her "protectors" (gargoyles) and to point this out.
The Archangel Michael whose genius idea the whole thing was, treats Eve with disrespect and rudeness and also doesn't tell her anything. It is all very cryptic and for me, annoying. The possible love interest, Asher is for some reason forbidden to pursue Eve and there never is any significant reason given.
It seems pretty obvious that they will work their way around that issue and the reason for it will be something "epic" they have to mate for life, etc...etc.... I am just guessing here.
Speaking of mates - when a female gargoyle and a male gargoyle become mated, the female whose wings were once light grey change color to match the wings of her mate. Also her eye color changes to match the color of her mate's eyes. Good grief. Female gargoyles also don't have the right to vote. Just kidding.
One last thing, Gargoyles, of course, are beautiful.
Revelation is the first book in The Revelation Series. It’s a YA paranormal read and it exceeded all of my expectations.
I was craving a YA paranormal book, I wanted something that would just suck me in and basically be a huge mystery to me and I got it.
Eve is in college and she’s your typical Heroine in a YA paranormal book. She’s smart, innocent and has a group of girlfriends she loves. Slowly she realizes her simple life isn’t so simple anymore. She encounters two men, Gage and Asher. Both are handsome, rich and mysterious.
Gage is a charmer and makes it’s obvious he is interested in Eve. Eve takes him in strides but doesn’t really pursue him. Now, Asher, he’s something different. Asher is the kind of Hero you find in a YA paranormal read. He’s broody, kind of mean and very loyal.
Asher is to protect Eve at all cost, the only thing is, Eve doesn’t know why. Eve is in great danger, but that’s all she knows. So much happens in this book. I love that it’s in Eve’s POV and I love that we have no idea what’s going on. I love figuring things out with the Heroine because that keeps me interested.
Eve continues to question Asher, but he doesn’t really give her anything to work on. I love the tension between Asher and Eve, it’s crazy awesome, addictive and I love how the author kind of drags it out, but it’s good I promise. Eve and Asher feel this crazy pull towards each other, but it’s very frowned upon to act on it. He is there to protect her, ONLY.
I love the secondary characters, Asher brothers and Eve’s suit mates. It keeps the story going and a bit light.
I haven’t liked a YA paranormal read like this since the Lux series. What a gem I found.
From the very beginning I had a distinct feeling that I already read something like this. Multiple somethings. Although, yes, there were original ideas too. And I may have even be open to continue if it weren't for over-detailed descriptions that got way out of hand.
This book started off very interesting! I love mythology-based stories, it gets even better when it's mentioned that one of the creatures that are part of this story are gargoyles. Having more obscure creatures be a big part of a story is amazing to see.
The writing style is a bit too descriptive for my taste but that was lessened by speeding up the audio narration. One thing the author does well is create tension and angst between Eve and Asher. There were some points where it could be cut with a hacksaw and it still would have taken some work. Though it got frustrating towards the end because it was never explained why they couldn't be a couple in the first place other than "that's a no-no".
Eve started off very innocent and sweet and I don't mean that as a compliment. There was bearly any spunk to her at all. Her friends dictated her life in terms of going out and "being social". Personally, I wanted her to have a bit more personality. When things started going it didn't get any better because everyone kept everything from her always. There were small tidbits here and there that she would overhear but it never made much sense because she didn't know any background on anything anyway. This trope of keeping the main character in the dark with the reader is one of the tropes that can go so wrong when not done properly. I think the story would have been better had this been executed better.
Asher was a mysterious and standoffish character that I disliked at first. His tender moments eventually overpowered his bad moments and I concluded that he was the lesser of two evils. It's implied that he's still keeping a big secret from Eve and I'm close to pulling my hair out in annoyance due to all the secrets making up this story. Can everyone ever get on the same page?!
I had an inkling that something was going to go wrong with their idiotic plan at the end. I wasn't surprised if I'm honest. Most of the girls Eve hung out with throughout the novel didn't really stand out to me. They all blurred into one, except the B with an itch whose name I don't care to remember (she can go die in a ditch somewhere for all she adds to the story).
The Audio Book:
I've seen a lot of criticism thrown this narrator's way and I have to disagree. I really enjoy her narrations! She has a good enough range where each character has a distinctive voice and accent, which means I don't get lost in conversations with 3+ people. Personally, she reads at a slower pace than I find comfortable so I fixed that by speeding the audio book up to x1.25. What we can take away from this narration is that taste is subjective and that's totally fine! Everything will not be for everyone!
YA paranormal appropriate for ages 18+. Sorry guys, I wanted to like this book. The writing was technically sound. Look at me trying to sound all smart and crap. What I mean by that is the storyline was good, I didn’t find any errors with regards to plot holes or grammar. But it was soooooo slow. It would build up and then let me down. Which is good…sometimes. But after the third or fourth build up with nothing to show for it, I lost my patience. Maybe I am just an impatient reader.
Okay, the love story. He is forbidden from being with her because of some oath but we never find out what, exactly, that oath is, or if there is a way around it. This really had me confused. They kept having these moments when you knew they wanted to commence with the loving but he always backed down with, “We can’t” (I’m paraphrasing) The fact that she didn’t try to find out why really bugged me. She just accepted it. It was hard to read at times.
Some of the dialogue was choppy too. Like the conversations were all over the place and didn’t transition properly for me. That could be me, I don’t know. But when they were talking to her, her responses didn’t seem like she was tracking the same things, if that makes sense.
I will say that the idea was a great one. Gargoyles as protectors? What a fantastic idea! I’d certainly never read a book about gargoyles before, at least not with a positive spin. The potential was there, the pacing just wasn’t. And in the end that’s what killed it for me. Too much suspense, not enough progression.
I don’t like to write these reviews. But I will say this: I am all about redemption so I WILL be reading a different book by this author, because one bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch.
As a longtime lover of the Paranormal genre, it is always refreshing to find a story that isn't a re-write of something that has already been done. Yes, there are parts of it like other books - there is romance, attraction, evil to be fought, cookies to be baked - but there is also lots that is new. I won't spoil any of it by giving away spoilers but suffice it to say that I was drawn into this story from the very beginning.
So many questions that need answering, so much to find out and the best part for me was that Eve was on that journey of discovery with me. When a load of information (and pressure) gets dumped on her, she actually reacts. She doesn't just accept it "oh it's all okay, it's my role in life after all" as has happened in other books. No, she actually has a hissy fit and needs time out to sort things out for herself. She doesn't make an instant decision about anything that should require time and space to reach clarity. This makes her a fantastic character to read about.
There are too many characters to gush about each and every one but what I will say is that everyone should have a Callen in their life!
So much detail is given in this book, it makes it a delight to read. I love Randi Cooley Wilson's writing style and can't wait for Restraint book 2 to be released in August! I'm also running over to her website to read some from Asher's point of view (see link below).
If you like Paranormal, Romance, Urban or Fantasy then I can completely recommend this book! If you haven't read one before then this is a wonderful one to start with! There is mystery, intrigue, and a gasp-inducing shock that occurs sometime during the book but I won't say when so I don't spoil anything.
This is a reread but it’s been a while so it was like experiencing it all afresh. This story is sole POV and centres on Eve a human girl attending college who finds herself thrown head first into a paranormal world that she had no idea existed.
Born to fulfil an important destiny and with enemies on all sides Eve needs protecting which comes in the form of a clan of powerful Sentinels this family of supernatural beings are keeping secrets from Eve for her own protection.
From the minute Eve encounters Asher she feels an intense pull even though he is initially a bit of a A-hat to her. A relationship between them is totally forbidden no matter how they both feel and Asher does seem to blow hot and cold constantly. Sworn to protect Eve but also struggling to keep his distance.
Eve initially is a tad naive and easily cowed but as she embraces her destiny she does start to evolve. I definitely liked her more as this progressed and she started to grow into her role. Asher I liked but I did think he should have set better boundaries considering he wasn’t supposed to be with Eve romantically.
This is just the start of the series so the romance for the moment is slightly on the back burner. This means the spice level with this one was relatively low but I’m expecting more as the story progresses. This ended on such a dramatic heart-wrenching finish that definitely shocked me.
This set a fast pace and has an interesting story. I liked all the supernatural beings and loved that there were also gargoyles here. This was very imaginative and well written it does feel quite YA though just so your aware but overall I thought this was a great introduction to the series as a whole
Sucked. Failed. Bombed. Lame. Unsurprising and bland. The only unique thing about this book is the implementation of the gargoyles but even that managed to be a shallow, 1-dimensional concept in this weak story.
Read at your own risk. does NOT have my recommend.
At the time that I read this series I wasn't into writing reviews on books.. At no point did I find it necessary to do so..
However, I so regret that decision because now I wish I had my words to reflect back on, and for others to share them with me.
But I do know that I whole heartily loved this book and the 4 others after it. If you decided to read this book please go into it with an open mind and let this author take you on a journey like no other has before.
Here's what I loved: - So far, there's no love triangle. - I'm into the "forbidden love" theme. - Eve. I absolutely love her. I like that she didn't just hide in the corner and dwell on the secrets. She called them out on what she heard and wanted answers. A lot of books I've read lately feature girls who don't speak up in situations like that. They usually keep their mouth shut and mope around about how everyone is lying to them. She can also take care of herself. I love that she's not playing the damsel in distress. And when Asher was being a jerk, she didn't cry and run away, she stayed and didn't back down. - The rest of the characters. I thought they were well written and I honestly wouldn't mind reading side/spinoff books for some of them. - They're not in high school. I have nothing against characters in high school, it's just that I've been reading so many books about them lately, it's nice to see something new. - Everyone wasn't in love with Eve. It gets really annoying when the plain Jane protagonist has every boy wrapped around her finger and she's Miss Special Snowflake. Eve doesn't have every man falling at her feet and she doesn't care. - OH! And ASHER. Love him.
What I didn't like: The book wasn't long enough. I need more.
I've heard people comparing this book to Fallen, and I can see it. Forbidden love, secrets, the loyal protector, the bad boy who tries to lure her (he does remind me a lot of Cam), and . It's not a bad thing at all. I really liked Fallen, BUT- I think Revelation has what Fallen lacked and so much more. It feels like everything I wish Fallen had, I found in Revelation. And I think it's more mature than Fallen.
Randi Cooley Wilson has some serious talent and she had me from the first page. I can't wait for the sequel! ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This is rather a hard review for me to write. I requested Revelation for review in audio because the synopsis intrigued me and the book had gotten great reviews. Unfortunately, it didn't work all that well for me. I'm going to break it down into what worked and what didn't work for ease in disseminating my thoughts and feelings. Here goes...
Worked (sort of)
- The premise - I'm a fan of angel vs demon, heaven vs hell stories. That one girl was the key in the upcoming battle - the one who might save the world - I was intrigued to say the least
- The worldbuilding - I enjoyed the ways in which Cooley Wilson used archangels, demons, fae, and GARGOYLES to inhabit the story and I liked the abilities being explored. In some ways they were familiar, but in others she made them unique.
Didn't Work
- The writing - I appreciate detail and I adore words but this was a cacophony of description. A smirk is a smirk - no further description needed. If a character is responding snarkily, the dialog should be sufficient in conveying that - I don't need to be told.
- The MC's inner dialog - mostly her inner exclamations got irritating
- The reasons behind the forbidden romance didn't make sense to me. If you feel strongly for someone, doesn't that increase your desire to keep them safe?
- The narrator - she couldn't hold an accent. I was never quite sure who was speaking because of this. It was distracting and took me right out of the story.
- The MC behaved immaturely quite often. I understood she was only 18 but she went from seeming relatively mature to having a tantrum and that was distracting.
- Inconsistencies - along with the inconsistent behavior of the heroine, the hero was also inconsistent (I can't stay away...I *must* stay away), drinking but the characters are only 18...
I think this may be a case where I'd have enjoyed the story a little more had I read it rather than listened. I think the flaws were magnified in audio. I'm not sure I'll continue the series. But again, this book has many rave reviews so while it didn't work for me, it might work for you.
Okay so this was an alright first book in The Revelation Series. The plot was decent, I liked the gargoyles, liked that it also has Angels, Werewolves, Fairies etc... Enjoyed the characters Asher, Callam, Abby and Gage. I liked the forbidden love. But I felt that it was focusing maybe a little to much on whole "forbidden" part than the romance/love aspect. I wasn't the biggest fan of the heroine (Eve), wasn't she suppose to be in collage??? Is it just me or did she come across as a whiny little brat? Honestly though it had more of a young high school vibe to it. Kinda wanted to S-M-A-C-K the crap outta her a few times lol. Hope her character matures as this Series go's on. Pleasee!!! And I soooo hope to see more of Gage♥ (Sigh). Is it bad that I want more of him? I have a feeling hes gonna be very swoon worthy (fingers crossed) ;-). I'm going to keep reading this Series because it has to get better. Riiight? Anyways on to Restraint (The Revelation #2).
This was the first book that I've been able to actually finish as of late! It seems that I'm going through the "OMG why did I start reading this crap" stage. More often that not, I end up reverting back to some of my all time favs just to read something worth reading when having a bad book day, but Revelation I didn't mind...
The first encounter that Eve and Asher had together was probably the saving grace for me continuing. I thought their banter was hilarious, yes I did LOL.
Eve could be a very stubborn character, and at times became frustrating, but all in all even though it wasn't the greatest thing I've read, it was a joy to finish the book atleast .. so props in my eyes.
People have been telling, for quite some time now, that I need to read the Revelation series by Randi Cooley Wilson. With every book, though, they’ve also told me that there is a huge cliffhanger. So, naturally, I decided to wait until all the books were released to read it. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait. This book was AMAZING! I’m so excited to share this with you today!!!
The star of this book, by far, was Asher. OH. MY. GOD. He was so flipping hot! Asher is definitely on my top book boyfriends ever list. He made this entire book. The only thing that I would have asked for were some more swoony scenes between Asher and Eve. I felt like I was waiting for something special that never quite made it on the page. Not that they didn’t have their swoony moments, I just was waiting for something a little more.
The first 75% of this book was absolutely amazing. I loved all of the characters so much! The only thing that slightly bothered me was the information overload. I felt that, at times, the book could drone on a little bit about Heaven, Hell, and the gargoyles history. I just wish that that would have been slightly tampered down. On the other hand, the book did give a lot of background about what was going on and who Eve was.
The last 25% of the book was very action packed, but it did feel a little rushed in some areas. I will say, though, that there is a BIG CLIFFHANGER. Thank GOD I have the second book ready to read! My mouth dropped open at the end of the book….I was SO NOT expecting that!
Overall, I loved this book. I’m very excited for what’s to come in the next four books. This is a steamy, action packed, hunk filled series that I highly encourage all NA and paranormal fans to go read RIGHT NOW!
Randi Cooley Wilson uses popular tropes (and my favorite tropes) - secrets, star crossed lovers, a destiny - but adds in interesting elements - all the secrets of Asher St. Michael which I won't spoil - to create an intriguing, unique story filled with characters I love, a bit of action and excitement, and romance.
Eve's a good heroine. She's a loyal friend, she's imperfect. And she doesn't deal well with all the revelations, because really, when all that crap gets dumped on you? No one would deal well. She doubts herself even as she discovers her hidden reserves. And the boy problems? Almost as difficult to deal with as the secrets.
Asher. The mysterious, brooding, difficult, appealing Asher. After a bit I found the on/off switch in his emotions a little off-putting but it does really show how torn he is between want and duty. I'm a sucker for a protector and I loved his commitment to Eve's safety. And the fact that he has secrets? I couldn't wait to discover them.
The other characters. Aria. Callan. Abby. Keegan. Even Kenna. Callan was hands-down my favorite character. His charm, optimism, sweetness and the baking.
I liked the pacing. I didn't feel like there was too much filler before we found out more about what was going on, the whos and whys, even as Randi Cooley Wilson teases us about the secrets we've yet to discover. I did sometimes find her writing style a little jarring. There would be ways she phrased things that would take me out of the story, but that's really a minor complaint. And the cover? Perfect for the storyline.
When I got to the end of the story - gasp! - I couldn't wait to dive into book two, Restraint.

Wow, okay so I am a sucker for a good paranormal novel, there is just something about this genre that if written well just sucks me in and keeps me completely enthralled. This book is an example of a well written paranormal and I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.
Eve is starting college and she couldn't be more excited then to start her new life. The only problem she seems to be having are these darn nightmares she keeps having. Now she is not getting enough sleep and she is keeping her roommates up also. There is also this guy that keeps showing up around her that is so hot and cold with her. The problem for Eve is that she cannot keep from mentally undressing him everytime she sees him.
Soon Eve is brought into Asher's (hot and cold guy) world that is one that seems so unreal and yet Eve knows that this is what makes her different. Eve is now facing a world she knew nothing about and has the responsibility of being the savior of mankind.
I love Eve and Asher. They are in a hard spot where they are so attracted to each other but with their positions and roles they are forbidden to be together. Eve is also facing a future of unknowns and she knows the people that she trust the most are hiding things from her. Eve has to learn about her new talents and skills as well as try to figure out her role in saving everyone.
Asher is a great guy and he so wants and cares for Eve but he has a duty and it is his life's purpose he will not fail Eve.
There is nothing special about this book, it's a been there done that kind of book. That being said, I still greatly enjoyed it and even went out and bought book 2. There is a reason books follow the same format, it sells. People enjoy it. The writing is easy to follow, flows nicely. The characters are pretty well developed but it is only the first book. I'm sure they will be developed more as we go along. So the plot is really kind of everywhere (in a good way), we have angels, humans, gargoyles and hell hounds. The plot moves fast, nothing slow about this book, it grabs you from page one and never lets you go. The romance is really good, though I wish we'd have more, they need to just give in already!
This wasn't a bad read. It started off really good and then once Eve found out everything she changed. I get that it was a lot to process but there was no need to have an attitude like that. It made me not want to like her anymore. One of the cool things about this book was it not only had angels but it had demons, fae, vampires, and werewolves too. I like books that involve all of the supernatural together.
I really wanted to love this but the writing made it a little harder to get into. I'm not in any way an expert and it's not like it's bad, I just feel like it's kind of amateurish. A part of me wants to know what happens next but I'm not sure yet if I will. Maybe the writing gets better?
A phenomenal paranormal romance that’s darkly delicious and seductively magnetic!
A divine secret, a loyal protector And a forbidden love…
REVELATION is a darkly sinister, supernatural story of hypnotic profundity and fervent intensity. I lost myself entirely within this compulsively addictive, chilling tale of inspired imaginative concepts and fantastic characters. The author blends together a cleverly woven, magnetic mix of heartrending romance and mystery for a truly original outcome. As a fan of this genre and authors such as Charlaine Harris, Kerri Arthur and PC Cast, expectations were high as I delved into this exciting debut novel. Therefore it was a delight to behold such an exquisite, multi-layered narrative of brilliant detail and substance! Within the deftly woven plot are innumerable twists and turns that kept me sat on the edge of my seat in suspense throughout, additionally to the dynamic action and shocking secrets. Anyone seeking a sensational, scintillating story of memorability and a dramatic, explosive ending that will leave you flabbergasted just has to add this to their to-read shelf.
In book 1 of the Revelation Series…
Eve begins her freshman year at College blissfully unaware of the magnitude of unexpected events that are about to unfold. Her future, family and life are about to change so drastically that all notions and perceptions on ‘the norm’ (in life) are utterly misshapen. The ‘love triangle’ between Eve and the dark, enigmatic Gage versus mysteriously detached Asher is enthralling and tugs at the heartstrings with intent. In this extraordinarily evocative, truth-drawing journey of one girl’s self-discovery you cannot help but be inwardly moved and shaken by such a story.
(Quote) “Asher stops in front of me, bends down and forces me to look him in the eye. My eyelids flutter just the tiniest bit at his body’s nearness to mine. Damn traitorous body. The corners of his mouth lift smugly as moves closer. So close I can feel his minty warm breath on my lips. Chuckling quietly, he takes off his jacket and my heart begins doing back flips. His shoulders are really broad up close. Slowly, he leans forward, wrapping his leather coat over my shoulders and engulfing me with warmth and his intoxicating scent...”
REVELATION is a story that highlights the meaning of sacrifice and of true love, speaking to the soul with resonance and meaningful insight as to make it all the more personal to you. As fantastic main protagonist Eva stands on the pinnacle of a greatly consequential turn of events that lead to her ‘destiny’, it makes one evaluate the weight of love and how it holds such sway over our choices in life. As the exciting first instalment of a new fantasy series for both YA’s and the older reader, I was most astonished by how such a work of fiction could leave such an indentation upon my memory.
Randi Cooley Wilson is an accomplished author whose debut novel is an assured, masterpiece of great premise and awe-inspiring creativity. Deeply beguiling and moving passages evoke such emotions with as to pull you into the pages of a compelling, highly readable tale of magnitude. As a refreshing edition to the paranormal genre, I would highly recommend this riveting read and suggest that you add it to your bookshelf.
*I would like to thank the author for providing me with an e-copy of her debut novel to read & review. I have expressed my honest and non-biased opinions in this book review. *
As i read more I dislike the simplistic young adult fantasy, and thats the category this is in. And the h was in major dumb girl denial-where was her agency why was she content with her ppl keeping her in the dark?
This book was a journey, mostly because of the building of the author’s world and mythology. If the author did not detail her world-building and mythology-forming as well as she did, this book would have been two stars. So, in that aspect it's undoubtedly unique. The story did not go where I thought it would. Characters are not who I thought they were I appreciated the steady pace of the book, yet how fast the action was picked up. I honestly didn't think it would happen, but I actually became invested in the characters! I felt like I was part of the pseudo-family forming. Though I'll admit, Eve is the one I am the least invested in.
I was not too fond of the way the novel ended. There was a big “rise” to the story, but a very little “climax.” I understand that this is an intro to the rest of the series, but still. The author seems to be trying to stir up excitement for her next book, but the last paragraphs were too rushed, while the reader is still trying to grasp what is going on. I had to look back a few pages and say, “Did that just happen?” I was also wary at about how much Eve and Asher’s relationship seems to be based off of this outside, unexplainable pull. This is a common theme when it comes to supernatural literature, I understand; however, I felt that their relationship forms a little too fast because of this. It's all just sexual tension. Honestly. (Though, it was pretty hot... It's difficult for it not to be, when the author seems to be really good at writing these types of scenes).
Overall, this was a decent, quick read; one that I will be awaiting the sequel for. It really hits the spot if you're looking for a unique world, diverse mythology, and/or tension-based romance.
There is mild violence, a good amount of language used, and sexual themes that may not be appropriate for younger ages. The nature of Eve and Asher’s relationship is charged with sexual tension that will most likely be acted upon in later sequels.
