I'm sorry that I can only give this book by one of my favorite authors a maximum of two stars, but I found the story simply terrible. There were way too many plotlines that were both predictable and overwhelming, and as a reader, they really brought me down in the end. The book is just filled with negativity, suffering, and crime. The fact that the son of the Nazi criminal turns out to be a mass murderer and has presumably passed on his genes (with consequences) was the last straw for me. Of course, crimes and historical events shouldn't be sugar-coated in novels, but for me, this book was a torment—life is too short for stories like this.

Let me just start out by saying I am a HUGE Lucinda Riley fan and am still devastated over her death. I was overjoyed to hear that her dear son Harry had adapted another of her manuscripts into a new book. It is always a risky business, especially taking over from such a FANTASTIC author but I was willing and ready to take a chance on this book.
I have to admit I was a bit intimidated by the size of this book. Anyone else get nervous when embarking on a huge book? Anyhow, my anxiety was quickly dispersed once I started reading it and by the end of the prologue I was totally invested. And, before I get started on my review I have to say I LOVED THIS BOOK! Everything about it screamed Lucinda Riley 👏🏼😍🥰

As the storyline progresses, it sweeps across 2 generations; from Poland during the Second World War to the Yorkshire moors and New York's Fifth Avenue, in 1977-1982. The story initially traces the life of Leah Thompson, who rises from humble beginnings in rural Yorkshire to take the modelling world, in London, by storm. However, her association with the Delancey family dominates her life. The secrets they hide from one another start to explode into nightmares of thwarted ambition, forbidden love, revenge and murder...
The story kicked off with a very intriguing, mysterious and forewarning prologue…Megan, also known as the witch, had a warning for young Leah: “…He will come back to find you on the moors…you can’t alter destiny…you must beware him.” At this point, the warnings had little context but in the coming chapters all would be revealed…
There are so many fantastic characters in this book, so well and clearly characterised. I could literally write an essay on how much I loved this book and the complex characters within it. Everything about this book felt so REAL. For me the story begins when Brett arrives in Yorkshire. He quickly discovers, to everyone’s surprise, a sense of peace and happiness that he hasn’t felt since before his mother’s death. He had got back to doing what he loved most - painting. His burning passion, along with the northern air, had provided a healing tonic for him. Furthermore, he and, teenage servant, Leah quickly hit it off and they found themselves both delving into the first love affair of their young lives. I loved both Leah and Brett’s characters. 🥰
Miranda, on the other hand, was a piece of work. She saw her step-cousin Brett as her passport out of the country and into the glamorous life she had always wanted. She had a very different view on life and love. ‘Love was for the foolish…Miranda didn’t ever intend to fall into that trap.’ She simply had to have Brett, whose father was one of the wealthiest men in the world. He was certainly in the top 10 richest men in Britain and to Miranda, that was all the information she needed. And she would do anything to get young Brett on her side…simply put; she was an evil, scheming and foolish teenager. Would the events of the coming years change her? And Miles, her elder brother, was even more evil than one dares to imagine! 👿
There are various storylines running through this book. Each was so well researched and brilliantly written. I could easily write an essay about each one of these, however I will spare you that, and instead just tell you that this book is a WILD ride. Full of unexpected twists and turns. So many long-buried secrets. Heartbreaking moments. Joyous memories. Strong family bonds.
This book definitely dealt with much darker themes than that of Riley’s other novels. The world was full of arrogant and aggressive males. And furthermore, there was definitely a sense of underlying mystery throughout the story. This mystery aspect really added a thrilling element and urgency to the book.
As I have come to expect from Lucinda Riley books, the storytelling was masterful. It was so smooth and engaging. Once I had read a few short chapters, I didn’t want to look up until the book was finished. I was totally immersed in the world Riley had created. And, I can honestly say I enjoyed every single second of this wonderful book. One of the easiest 5 🌟 I have given all year!

I wasn't quite prepared for how dark The Hidden Girl was. I have read a few books by Lucinda Riley and I don't remember them having so much heavy content.
The Hidden Girl is narrated through multiple timelines and multiple characters spanning generations.
Present Day: Rose and David are estranged siblings however reconnect when David asks Rose to take his 16yo son for the semester break. Brett has a brief holiday romance with village girl Leah who years later will take the modelling world by storm.
The Hidden Girl is a generational saga going back to David and Rose's parents, the concentration camps of WWII and to the present day.
From Yorkshire to London to the catwalks of Milan then on to New York, the hectic and not so glamorous life of a top model is riddled with competition, obsession and sabotage.
The Hidden Girl is a big book, over 500 pages, refreshed and updated by Lucinda's son Harry Whittaker. There is also an informative foreword by Harry.
With themes of the concentration camps of WWII, murder, allusions to child abuse, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, obsession, suicide, male dominance, servitude, gaslighting and rape. The Hidden Girl is not for the faint hearted.
I have to say though, the story had me glued to the pages even though I was continually shocked by the content, the twists were many and just when I thought I couldn't be shocked anymore I was hit by another twist.

Would’ve been fine without the stupid last paragraph (or even sentence). Could’ve done without the multi-generational incest - plus who actually is the hidden girl supposed to be?

Why isn't there more people raving about this book?! It is AMAZING.
I loved Riley's Seven Sisters series so now I just live in hope that there are more of her old manuscripts lying round so we haven't exhausted all her work already.

Taip pat į visą šią istoriją puikiai įsiliejo ir Antrasis pasaulinis karas. Buvo be galo įdomu bei jautru skaityti apie veikėjų patirtus išgyvenimus.
Daug daug visko slypi šioje daugiasluoksnėje knygoje. Keliaujant šios knygos puslapiais pajusite meilę, atrasite draugystės džiaugsmą, taip pat sutiksite ir kerštą, o kur dar slypinti ir visa šeimos drama.. Pažadu, jog nuobodu nebus.
Aš galbūt ir nesu labai šališka šios istorijos vertintoja, nes tiesiog labai myliu Riley kūrybą. Buvo taip gera prisiminti savo mylimą autorę 🤍
Rekomenduoju žinoma, jog Riley gerbėjams tai tikrai. O kas dar neatradote šios autorės, siūlyčiau susipažinti. Tikiu, jog pažintis bus tikrai maloni.

Koliko jeziv kraj, iako predvidiv. Da ovo nije Lusindina knjiga verovatno je ne bih ni ocenila, ali mnogo volim njene price cak iako su haoticne i mracne sto nije uobicajeno za nju. Bas sam se vezala za sve likove i nekako smo pratili ceo njihov zivot da sam se skroz sazivela s njima. A Lusinda je u tome uvek maher. Ali koliko je brutalno mracna u delovima, ne mogu da provalim jel to Harijeva ideja ili je tako i u originalu izgledala

I have A LOT to say about this book.
There were too many plot points. It was a family saga, a mystery, a Holocaust story, a rags to riches, a Revenge story, a love story, a cautionary tale, a thriller.
Why did this book need so many things going on at once?! It was overwhelming.
I wish Lucinda and later, her son, had stuck to half of these plot points. I would have removed the Miles Is An Obsessed Stalker and Also Murderer And Is Evil Because His Dad Is A Nazi storyline. It was so contrived and unnecessary!
I also completely renounce the idea that evil is genetic, which is what this novel is suggesting. What the actual fuck????
The Leah and Brett storyline could have been a lot more interesting if Miles was actually a valid option for Leah, instead, he is used as a plot device to further that weird "prophecy" that Megan the Witch gave her.
Miranda was also handled poorly. I can't believe she was killed off at the end!!!
Ultimately, poor Rose is the ultimate victim. Her parents are killed. She's taken to Treblinka. She is molested by Franzen. Her grandparents shun her. She is then manipulated AGAIN by Franzen who starts a sexual relationship with her and impregnates her (WHAT THE FUCK). She has the Nazi baby, Miles, (who is obviously born evil.) She takes in Miranda, who treats her quite badly. She then has to help Miranda with her teen pregnancy and subsequent baby. Then Miranda fucks off for years. THEN Miranda is murdered by Miles and Miles also dies.
JUSTICE FOR ROSE!!!!!
I enjoyed Leah's storyline the most, minus the Miles stuff. I'm a romance girlie so I'll be reading a nice, fluffy story to cleanse my palate.

Es un relato apasionante que te mantiene atada a sus paginas de principio a fin. Nos traslada a diversos países y paisajes y también toca aspectos importantes. El arte y la moda están muy presentes así como emociones y sentimientos. Algunas cosas no me gustaron del todo y me quedó alguna duda, pero sus personajes te cautivan y hacen que el saldo final sea muy positivo.

Żaden miłośnik twórczości pisarki nie będzie rozczarowany! Czyta się szybko i z pewna niecierpliwością co będzie dalej. Interesujacy polski wątek historyczny, na którym została zbudowana całą historia. Z przedmowy wynikia, że to jedna z pierwszych książek autorki z prawdopodobnie pewnymi elementami biograficznymi.

All I can say is WOW! I have just finished this book and my heart rate is so fast I feel like I’ve been for a run! Lucina Riley is a master storyteller, and this book is an epic lost masterpiece. After Lucinda’s passing, Lucinda’s son Harry Whittaker has taken this story, originally entitled ‘Hidden Beauty’ and has reworked it, doing her proud.
The story is told in timeless between WW2 and more modern times. It is the story of David and Rose who escaped from the camps in Treblinka. David became a property magnate and Rose a famous artist, but they had fallen out and weren’t in touch. David’s son Brett is sent to stay with Rose in the school holidays – their first contact in many years, and whilst there he falls in love with the beautiful Leah – the housekeeper’s daughter. Unfortunately, this doesn’t go down well with Rose’s children Miranda and Miles.
This is an incredible story, carefully woven together to reveal just enough through the novel that you can see why things are as they are, at key points through the story, but with many ‘aha’ moments where more is revealed to explain the narrative. I loved it.

Harry Whittaker did such a good job with Atlas the last of the Seven Sisters series of books by his late mother Lucinda Riley that I was really pleased to see this book on the ARC list. Unfortunately it wasn't up to Lucinda's standards. The story was very predictable and jumped about the timeline in a disorienting manner and the characters were one dimensional. I'm afraid I had to stop reading half way through and I won't be reading any more books published under Lucinda Riley's name.

Pokochałam styl Lucindy Riley i poruszające opowieści wypełnione rodzinnymi tajemnicami i trudnymi relacjami osadzone w klimatycznych, czasem niemal magicznych miejscach. Nie spodziewałam się, że po jej odejściu będziemy mieli szansę poznać nową historię jej autorstwa, dlatego zapowiedzi premiery „Dziewczyny z wrzosowisk” tak bardzo mnie zaskoczyły i ucieszyły. A jak zobaczyłam to cudowne wydanie to przepadłam bez reszty.

I to bardzo dramatyczne, bo sięgające drugiej wojny światowej i bestialstwa, jakie faszyści zgotowali Polakom w Treblince. Ta traumatyczna, wywierająca wpływ na kolejne pokolenia koszmarna przeszłość miast łączyć dzieli najbliższych sobie ludzi na wiele lat.
Również w latach siedemdziesiątych intryga rozdziela dwoje młodych, zakochanych w sobie ludzi, kierując Leah na drogę sławy w modelingu. Z ubogiej dziewczyny staje się dobrze sytuowaną kobietą, która jednak nie traci wyniesionych z domu wartości i nie daje się połknąć błyszczącemu tombakiem wielkiemu światu. The book is beautifully written but very very dark. I absolutely loved reading the book but find myself disturbed by the content even days after finishing. I would definitely put an age limit on reading this book. It’s a great read but really disturbing too.

Kolejne , bardzo dobre zwieńczenie twórczości Lucindy, której talent i wrażliwość na emocje zawsze mnie poruszały. Choć od jej śmierci minęło już kilka lat, co przyjęłam ciężkim sercem, to bardzo się ucieszyłam, że będę mogła ponownie poczuć magię jej pisania, dzięki staraniom jej syna, Harry'ego Whitakera. Każda jej książka mnie zachwyca i bardzo cenię sobie możliwość ponownego odkrywania magii literackiego świata, który stworzyła więc jak tylko ukazała się "Dziewczyna z wrzosowisk", przeczytanie jej stało się moim najważniejszym priorytetem. Główna oś fabuły dotyczy wydarzeń rozgrywających się w Polsce podczas II WŚ, życia w gettcie warszawskim oraz w niemieckim obozie koncentracyjnym w Treblince. Ale mamy tu też bezwględny świat mody, motyw zemsty, dorabiania się od zera do miliardera, czy tajemniczą przepowiednię i przekazywanie z pokolenia na pokolenie psychopatycznej skłonności do wyrządzania zła.
Jak w każdej książce Lucindy, również i w tej odnajdujemy wrażliwość na ludzkie emocje, co czyni ją pełną współczucia i zrozumienia na cierpienia innych.
Naprawdę się cieszę, że dzieki staraniom syna Lucindy, mogłam znowu cieszyć się tą magią i odkrywać nową historię, która łączy w sobie elementy przeszłości i teraźniejszości. Oby Harry miał więcej takich nieopublikowanych historii autorki w zanadrzu...

Romane kupina ir detektyvinių detalių ir meilės romanas, ir šiek tiek žiaurių istorijos pamokų. Labai daug kur nuspėjama kas bus toliau ir tai neskatino laukti istorijos pabaigos, nes kaip ir buvo aišku kas bus. Tiesa viena linija buvo labai įdomi, tarp vyresniosios kartos sesers ir brolio santykiai ir jų istorija bei susipykimo priežastis. Gaila, mažokai paplėtota.

I have loved Lucinda Riley’s books ever since I was recommended the first of the Seven Sister’s books back in 2017. There is a reason she is known as a master storyteller.
With ‘The Hidden Girl’, her son Harry Whittaker has done an amazing job editing and reworking the original ‘Lucinda Edmonds’ book ‘Hidden beauty’ from the early 90s to become the Lucinda Riley book that it is today. You would never know it has been reworked and it is such a lovely thing he has done, continuing his mother’s legacy.
I was surprised to find this book is a lot darker than her others. In some areas it even takes on an element of the thriller genre, which is very different to her other books, as well as being the usual mix of part romance, historical and family saga. However, the mix works, and her characters and storytelling are as compelling and moving as ever. I found Miranda’s storyline to be especially so.
The author clearly spent a long time researching the topics of her novel and doing location visits, as she paints such a vivid image of the 80s fashion industry, the art world and of course, the Holocaust. This section of the story was particularly hard to read, she presents such a tragic and horrific picture of real events. Despite this, I still found myself reading late into the night and even though it is over 500 pages, I finished the book in a week- for me that is quite some feat!
If you’ve enjoyed Lucinda Riley’s previous books, or even if you’re just starting out with them, I would thoroughly recommend!

¿Me ha gustado? Sí. Me ha parecido muy interesante. Lucinda Riley siempre será Lucinda Riley y su forma de contar las historias es legendaria. Así que por esa parte bien.

The Hidden Girl was a thrilling read, and I was immersed from 30 pages. It contained dark and sensitive topics that I was not expecting and felt different from Lucinda Rileys' typical historical fiction novels.
I agree with other reviews in that there were multiple plot lines going on, and some did not seem relevant. The character connections also seemed unlikely at times, making the book seem a bit unrealistic. Despite these floors, it's still a 4 star book for me.

Read this in a day so it can’t have been that bad. Parts of the book were interesting others long winded. Characters weren’t developed enough. A lightweight fairly interesting read.

No decep. Meravellos. Quan penses q no es mes q una novela d’amor. Veus q es una obra mestra. I ja amb l’ultim paragraf donas Gracies per haver triat el llibre!!
