She gets people to confess their crimes for a living. He knows she's hiding a terrible secret. It's time for the truth to come out…
Poe Webb, host of a popular true crime podcast, invites people to anonymously confess crimes they've committed to her audience. She can't guarantee the police won't come after her "guests," but her show grants simultaneous anonymity and instant fame—a potent combination that's proven difficult to resist. After an episode recording, Poe usually erases both criminal and crime from her mind.
But when a strange and oddly familiar man appears on her show, Poe is forced to take a second look. Not only because he claims to be her mother's murderer from years ago, but because Poe knows something no one else does. Her mother's murderer is dead.
Poe killed him.
From the USA Today bestselling author of The Dead Girl in 2A and The New Neighbor comes a chilling new thriller that forces the question: are murderers always the bad guys?

He is also the founder of Unbound Writer, a company devoted to helping writers find their voice through coaching, immersive retreats, and online classes.

After reading the starred review from Kirkus and the blurb presenting this as an exciting and twisty thriller, I had some pretty high expectations of this book. But Tell Me What You Did was a letdown on almost every level.
First, the main character is flat and completely uninteresting. I spent over 400 pages with Poe and I still can't say I know her very well. She seemed to swing back and forth between being someone with a moral compass who is capable of feeling guilt and a BADASS BITCH who's going to take you down, mofo, and lose no sleep over it.
It is also slow and boring, probably made more so because of how little I cared about any of the characters (naturally, the dog and cat are the exceptions). It felt like we already had all the information in the blurb-- Poe's mom was murdered, Poe killed her murderer (or thought she did) but now she has a guy on her podcast claiming to be her mom's killer --and so this whole book is just us waiting on a twist... that never came.
Well, maybe it was supposed to be a twist. But it was genuinely the first thing I guessed at.
Then there's just the very weird and, for me, unbelievable way Poe talked on the livestream. I know he asked her to describe in detail, but she described it like an author enjoying herself, not someone being forced to do something under duress. Like why would she volunteer information on losing her virginity to this guy when it has nothing to do with anything and he didn’t ask?
And I'm pretty sure some things were never explained?? Like how he got past her security cameras?
Add to this the fact that, at the climax, Poe acts sooooo stupid. There is no reason for her not to call the police then and there. No reason except she wanted to risk her own life, and her loved ones' lives, for the sake of some drama.
Edgy, bleak, heart-pounding, and a nail-biter, this scream-inducing, eye-popping, jaw-dropping psychological thriller will make your blood run cold! It took me a few sittings to finish, even though the pacing is riveting and the highly disturbing storyline drew me in. I was genuinely freaked out because the book’s villain is extra creepy and monstrous, reminding me of real-life serial killers like Manson, Gacy, and Dahmer. Especially at night, I had to cut my reading short, yet I still slept with the lights on and screamed each time I heard a creaking sound.
Overall, this is an amazing thriller that makes every hair on your body stand up and sends shivers down your spine. You may guess the ending, but that doesn't lessen the impact of the incredibly mounting tension that nearly chokes you with fear. Until the last chapter, the suspense escalates to a climax, leaving you holding your breath, sitting at the edge of your seat, clutching your heart, and praying for a fair ending.
I felt like I was hit by a truck repeatedly after reading this book—that’s how much it shook me to the core. Maybe my inner masochistic self is writing this, but it’s worth facing my fears by reading this book. The author is now on my auto-approved list because, without great thrills and facing your nightmares and real-life monsters, you don’t truly embrace life and seize the moments! Reading a terrifying book is always the best cure for the urge to check under your bed, even as an adult!
Here's a quick recap of the plotline: Poe Webb, in her early thirties, is a popular true crime podcaster famous for her show called “Tell Me What You Did,” where people confess their crimes anonymously to her audience. Her show guarantees instant fame and anonymity while providing relief for confessing a heavy burden. Poe is intriguingly connected to these people because she has been carrying a secret for seven years.
When a strange, thin, scarecrow-like, creepy man named Ian Hindley attends her show and confesses that he killed her mother 17 years ago, Poe’s entire world changes in an instant. This man cannot be telling the truth, even though he knows details that the press and police investigation didn’t have. Seven years ago, Poe found Leonard Hutchins, the man who stabbed her mother 14 times, and she killed him without hesitation.
Ian wants to make a live podcast session with her on Halloween, insisting he knows what she did seven years ago. How can this man know all those details she hasn’t shared, even with her father or her boyfriend and producer Kip? Could she have killed an innocent man? Ian Hindley seems to be coming for her. Can she stop this dangerous man before he takes more lives, including hers and her loved ones? Let the cat-and-mouse game begin.
Overall: OMG! I’m still breathless! This smart, intelligent, and riveting page-turner comes highly recommended!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for sharing this great thriller’s digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.
This was fun, the short chapters made it SO addictive but I was hoping for a more exciting ending! It’s okay though, I liked the main character a lot even if she did make some very dumb decisions 😅
Just to preface my review, please please please go into this read blind. All you need to know is that it centers around a young woman who runs a true-crime podcast where callers are invited to anonymously confess to their crimes. From there it all goes downhill when a man with a potentially terrifying connection to the host’s very own past comes onto the show. He then forces her—and her story—into the spotlight. Other than what I’m about to say in my review, you don’t need to know anything more… After all, even just one more word could spoil what was complete and utter perfection.
OMG! While Carter Wilson has never managed to disappoint in the past, Tell Me What You Did was on a whole other level. From the perfectly plotted storyline to the ever-ratcheting foreboding, I was not only on the edge of my seat, but my body was absolutely covered in chills. I swear that I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. Every single word was the stuff of nightmares with an antagonist as cold, creepy, and frightening as he was realistic. So much so that I felt the need to check the locks on my windows and the bolts on my doors before heading to bed on the night that I finished this spine-tingling psychological thriller. After all, I could easily put myself into each one of these scenes through Wilson’s riveting settings and evocative words.
Not only was the plot downright propulsive, but it also centered around one of my all-time favorite tropes: a true-crime podcasting narrator. What took this one over the edge into truly sensational, however, were the dual timelines and mixed media format. Already an original premise, everything seemed to shift and change with each additional chapter. And I haven’t even mentioned the twists. Quite literally gasp-inducing, one in particular had me whispering “Wait, WHAT?!” into the night as the latest revelation truly sunk in. Now, I do have to admit that I guessed one of them before all was revealed, but even that didn’t minimize the true splendor of this unputdownable, awe-inspiring novel.
All in all, I just can’t get over what was a truly unsettling game of cat-and-mouse. With short, addictive chapters, genuine dialogue, and unbridled unease, it just couldn’t have been better. Even the believably mounting sense of danger was enough to signal that this was going to be a book to devour from the very first page. Add in a flawed, morally gray main character and layers of dark, twisted mysteries, and it easily became my favorite book by this author. And that statement is truly saying something as they were ALL easy five star reads for yours truly. Together with intense, taut writing and a well-developed plot, I’m now going to declare that I’ve just discovered my first out-and-out winner of the year. Rating of 5+ stars.
Thank you to Carter Wilson, Poisoned Pen Press, and NetGalley for my complimentary digital and physical copies. All opinions are my own.
Oh-My-Lanta!!! Talk about a suspenseful read right from the beginning! I finished this in warping speed within twenty four hours and IT’S Christmas Eve! I would say this was a banger of a read leading into Christmas Day!
Look, I went into this blind and I highly recommend that you do too! Yes, I read the synopsis before requesting this, but we all know how memory goes when it comes to books. This is quite the treat and I feel it packs a huge punch when you have no idea what you’re getting yourself into.
I will give you this…….. there is a podcast where people can confess to their crimes. Crimes no one knows about. What I loved is that this a unique plot to the whole podcast trope. If you’re like me, you’re probably getting a bit tired of the podcasts. However, this one is a solid thrilling tale! I can’t believe I waited so long to dive in. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more from Carter Wilson!!!!
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks so much to Carter Wilson, Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for the opportunity!
I love thriller books based on podcasts so this was an immidiate purchase for me. It was SO easy to read with its short chapters and easy writing style I would HIGHLY recommend this one if you’re in a slump — the twist was great as was the ending 🤭
But I do feel like it could of been a bit more impactful I was left lacking a little something at the end
With one of the most popular podcasts around, Poe’s followers are off the charts. So, what is the subject of her podcast? Well, let me tell you…Poe gives an uninterrupted platform for people to come on her show and confess whatever crime they’ve committed. 15 minutes to get their story out. Anonymously, of course.
Her latest guest appearance shares his confession that hits too close to home. He just admitted to Poe’s mother’s murder! But that can’t be…. And now he’s insisting on a second interview only this time he wants to interview Poe! Wow, talk about whiplash.
The tables have turned.
A rapid-paced thriller told in part through the podcast itself. Though the book is fairly long, the short chapters kept it moving at a steady pace.
I love that Carter Wilson brought back one of his original characters from one of his most popular books, Mr. Tender’s Girl. But not to worry if you haven’t read that one yet. This book is very much a strong stand-alone. Still, you may want to go back and pick that one up after you finish this latest.
Carter Wilson is quickly becoming a go to author for me! Hope he will for you too!
4.5 ⭐️ Recovering from pneumonia has slowed my reading and reviewing, but TELL ME WHAT YOU DID by CARTER WILSON was so gripping that it cut through the haze.
Chilling. Gripping. Unsettling. This spine-tingling psychological thriller stays with you, its dark and intense atmosphere lingering long after the last page is turned.
This book pulled me in from the very first page. With an ever-ratcheting sense of foreboding and a perfectly plotted storyline, it had chills crawling up my spine. It’s packed with dark, twisted mysteries and an atmosphere so tense it felt like the walls were closing in around me.
Poe Webb, a true-crime podcaster with a talent for getting people to confess their darkest secrets, is such a compelling character. She’s flawed and morally gray, and I loved peeling back her layers as the story unfolded. The dual timelines were masterfully woven together, and the mixed media elements added an extra punch that made the story feel so real. I always enjoy this approach, and Wilson handled it brilliantly.
The plot moves at a quick, relentless pace, with short, addictive chapters that made it impossible to stop reading. Each chapter cranked up the suspense, and I found myself needing to know more, desperate to piece together the truth behind Poe’s haunted past. The sense of danger was palpable—I could feel it pressing down, making every page feel like a step deeper into darkness.
What truly stood out to me was the villain. Cold, creepy, and frighteningly realistic, he brought an unsettling edge to the story. The cat-and-mouse game between him and Poe was both thrilling and terrifying, with twists and turns that kept me guessing. Wilson guided me through the revelations with such skill, each one more exciting and unsettling than the last.
The writing is intense and taut, with a well-developed plot that digs deep into the complexities of guilt, memory, and the shadows of the past. I loved how the evocative settings and vivid descriptions pulled me right into Poe’s world, making her fear and uncertainty feel so real.
This is a dark, gripping read that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. It’s not just a thriller—it’s an experience that stays with you. Highly recommend!
Wow. I absolutely loved this one & could not put it down. This was CREEPY. Last night after I was reading, I had to check my closet & my shower for murderers.
Poe has a podcast where she allows people to confess to crimes that they have done to get it off their chest. Then someone comes on her show with awful, traumatic ties to her past and forces her life to become part of the show. He begins to stalk her.
This book creeped me out and it definitely kept me guessing. I hate to reveal too much when it comes to thrillers, because I feel like it’s better to go in mostly blind. But basically Poe did something that she needs to confess too and theres a very good backstory to that, as well. There were times I thought Poe was a little creepy herself.
I loved the formatting of this book. It went back and forth from events leading up to a certain day filled with a climax of events. I felt this really built the suspense. I can’t say enough good things about this one, just READ IT.
Thank you to netgalley for this free advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I am calling it now… This is going to be one of my top reads this year! 🖤Thank you soo much @poisonedpenpress for my gorgeous gifted copy!! 🫶Pub day is today!! 🥳🥳🥳 Who is excited for this???!!

✅A podcast- before you say you have read plenty of podcast books… NOPE… not like this one!! 😉😳So original… so fascinating… Yep I would totally tune in to this podcast.. 😳😳😳🤯
✅Intense… Wild.. Creepy… Utterly fantastic!! 🔪👏👏
✅ Short Chapters 😍😍😍
✅A dog!! 🐕❤️🐾
✅ Get ready for it… Yes my friends.. MURDER 😳 Okay I know your thriller loving hearts 🖤 will LOVE that!
I really can’t recommend this book enough!! This is my first @carterwilsonauthor book and I was BLOWN away!!
When I saw that this was (yet) another thriller centering around a podcast - kinda overplayed at this point - I was hesitant to add it to my TBR. However, this one was very unique. Plus, most of my GR friends reviews AGAIN caused me to have major FOMO! I knew I had to read it. I’m so glad I did!
I need to keep this review brief because there’s not a whole lot I can say without spoiling the fun.
This book has everything that makes for a great thriller! Don’t let the 400+ pages deter you from picking this one up. It is fast paced with short chapters, off the charts suspense, twists, and chilling moments. Straightforward without a bunch of unnecessary details to bog it down. The alternating live stream timeline format was perfect. There were also links to videos of behind the scenes from the podcasts. So cool!
Grimm the cat and Bailey the dog are so cute! Rest assured my animal loving friends - they are safe! 🐱🐶
This was my first Carter Wilson book. I’m looking forward to reading some of his older ones soon.
Let me tell you what I did! I read a very clever, well thought out, engaging, dark, and riveting page turner titled Tell Me What You Did!! I also enjoyed the tie in to the author's previous book, Mister Tender's Girl. Yes, Alice makes an appearance in this book! So very clever how Carter Wilson brought her into this book.
Poe Webb is a popular true crime podcaster who invites people/criminals to come on her podcast anonymously and tell her what bad deeds/crimes they committed. Poe is no stranger to crime. Her mother was murdered in their family home when Poe was a young teen. When a creepy man comes on her show and tells her that he murdered her mother, Poe knows the man is lying because she killed the man who murdered her mother!
Oh, what a tangled web this book became! So very clever, so well thought out, so wonderfully written, and so hard to put down! I loved the tension, the dread, the secrets, and the mounting sense of danger! As the book progressed, I thought I knew where this book was going to go, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I'll say it one more time, this book was so clever!
I loved how the book gives glimpses into the past along with the podcast notes, giving readers more information but the author still dangles several reveals just out of reach, which had me fully invested in the book, desperate to know what would happen next! There are quite a few twists and turns and several shocking reveals which had me reeling.
A dark, gritty, captivating page turner!
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I vacillated between loving and despising the main character. She had a very foul mouth, and at times I felt she had guts and I appreciated that. At other times she was simply not very likable, and those mixed feelings towards her made it harder to just focus on the story and enjoy it (and there were some great moments in there)
Poe Webb is the host of a popular true crime podcast series that gets people to confess their crimes on her show. So, why would her guests put themselves at such risk? Let alone Poe?
She can’t guarantee the police won’t come after her “guests.” But her show grants anonymity and instant fame – which could be a very dangerous combination that is also hard to resist.
There is also one slightly terrible problem with what Poe is doing. She is harboring a terrible secret. And, when Hindley comes on her show appearing oddly familiar, it soon becomes clear to Poe that he knows her terrible secret. What is she going to do?
What does Hindley know about Poe? And, what is Poe going to do about Hindley now?
This heart-pounding, gripping, page-turning psychological thriller will keep readers thoroughly engaged wanting to know the truth.
You know that feeling when a book gets some hype, and you tell yourself, Nope, not falling for it this time? But then the FOMO creeps in, and you finally cave… only to realize—Diggity Dang, you almost missed out on something amazing? Yeah, that was me with Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson.
WOW
I went in with high hopes, and from page one I was wowed and was flipping pages like my fingers were on fire, sacrificing sleep, and ignoring real-life responsibilities. It had fast-paced action, high stakes, and enough suspense to keep me reading far into the witching hour, heart pounding and eyes wide.
The Other Side of the Mic.
Carter Wilson takes that true crime podcast trope and cranks up the intensity. The story follows Poe Webb, the sharp, fearless host of a wildly popular true-crime podcast where people anonymously confess their real-life crimes. But then—plot twist—one caller confesses to a crime that Poe knows he couldn’t have committed. And just like that, she’s on the other side of the mic.
Cheers to Poe: Where Sarcasm Meets Intrigue
Let me just say—I loved Poe! Her fiery, edgy sarcasm leaps off the page, making her the kind of protagonist you'd want to share a drink (she does a lot of it) with and swap stories. But you won’t want to get caught up in her high-stakes drama. Sure, I might have preferred a little less emphasis on the drinking.
FOMO Alert: An Electrifying Showdown
The pace was electrifying right up to the showdown. With the stakes soaring, I was on the edge of my seat, cheering for Poe. At one point, I even leaped from my chair, exclaiming, "Well, hot diggity dang, that was good!"
So yeah this is the FOMO you don’t want to miss out on.
Poe gets people to confess to their crimes Anonymous knows she’s hiding a terrible secret Now the truth needs to be revealed
BEFORE YOU THROW YOUR TOMATOES🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
I know I am very much an outlier on this one! This has been doing the rounds with high praises and the FOMO in me had to rack this up in my TBR list. But…….
WAS THE THRILLER IN THE ROOM WITH US!? 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
WAS THAT A TWIST WE WASN’T SUPPOSED TO SEE COMING!? 😒😒😒😒😒
Ummm yeah… no. Firstly maybe I would have had a better time reading it, but as it was based on a podcaster I thought the audiobook would be a better fit. The narrator did what she had to do, but it doesn’t stop me from zoning out, being bored and feeling like the book was dragging too nowhere! There was plenty of times I wanted to DNF, but I convinced myself that I was going to have the mother of all twists and decided to persevere… SIGH!
I don’t know whether Poe is meant to be a bad B or a naïve bozo, but I couldn’t gel with her character. She was neither likeable nor unlikeable she was just there.
The interaction between Poe and the Anonymous person trying to frame her, was mid to say the least. I felt no goosebumps or urgency to root for Poe and cared less about anyone’s outcome. It all felt so forced and not suspenseful.
The chapters are short and it is easy to follow but I just didn’t enjoy my experience with this book unfortunately.
1.5 ⭐
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- pre reading Purely reading because of FOMO So many people raving about this book! I hope it delivers! 🧡💚🧡💚
It is one of those occurrences where the blurb had fooled me and made me think this was going to be a fun, chilling, thriller book, but it was not.
All the secrets or the "twist" have already been out there in the blurb: a woman thought she killed the man who killed her mother, but a man who claimed he killed her showed up. The only questions left for this story are: If this is indeed the murderer, then who did Poe kill? If Poe actually killed the murderer, then who is this man?
I thought it would be one hell of an interesting plot, but it's meh.
Poe is not a good main character in the sense that nothing about her is interesting. She does not seem to be smart enough to pull off a murder. There were times when she willingly gave up information that was not needed or even demanded by the man who was threatening her. One could argue that she was drunk, but still, who would send a criminal a text like: hey you fuck? The text alone is almost laughable.
The dialogue in the transcript was unconvincing, and some aspects of the story felt unrealistic. First, it was implied that the mayor was a fan of Poe and cared enough to send the police to check on her. Second, there was an actual person who was missing from their home. Third, a lot of people were watching the main suspect through a live stream of a popular podcast. With all of these things happening, you'd expect the police to make an actual effort, but nope. While I usually try to overlook minor details that don’t quite make sense in fiction, these inconsistencies really bother me.
The pacing is also slow and the chapters are tedious. I didn't really care about what was going to happen next, and the only reason I finished the book was because it was an ARC and I wanted to give a fair review. Had it been something I actually bought or borrowed from the library, it would have gone to my DNF shelf. Near the end of the book, I was mostly skimming because I had completely lost interest.
If the blurb had not revealed that Poe had killed a person right away, I think this might have been a nice little twist for readers. However, I noticed a lot of people seem to like this book, so I might be the minority here.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I had a couple of weeks with no reading, as I could not focused because of work.
I decided to pick this one because the reviewers said the chapters were short and the storytelling was enthralling, although plenty of readers left negative reviews just because they didn’t like the character. Well, when I judge a book I always take into consideration the concept, the writing, the storytelling, the structure/development of the story and the level of depth. I don’t need to like the characters. And if an author was able to make me hate a character, then I think his/hers job was well done. But in this story I did not mind the characters at all. I was not in love, but I didn’t hate either. Perhaps because I listened to the audiobook while I read the book. By the way, I thought the narrators were excellent. As for the story, I was hooked on it from the beginning and I did not want to put the book down (but work comes first…) I really thought the concept, although not so original, was very well executed and the storytelling was very engaging. But the chapters are too many and really short for such a small book, so it was hard to get that sense of depth. Although not flawless, I was completely entertained with this book, hence my ratings.
EXCERPT: I look up at my screen and stare at the guest's name in the waiting room. Ian Hindley. Huh. Most guests choose unidentifiable usernames, like KOD4ever. Rare that it's a plausibly real name. But I'm sure it isn't. 'Anything I should know?' I ask Kip. My heart is definitely beating faster than usual. It's a rhetorical question. Kip is the one who fields all requests for show appearances, and he's solely in charge of deciding who I talk to. I don't ever want to know anything about my guests before we start recording. I want to go in fresh, unbiased, and unprepared. It's what makes the show exciting for me, and as it turns out, it's also part of what's made Tell Me What You Did such a success. Asking Kip if there's anything I should know is just a habit, a good-luck charm. He never answers. Yet, this time he does. 'All I gotta say is this guy freaks me out.' Few things rattle Kip, so his saying this is unusual. A chill ripples over my forearms. 'Okay . . .' I say. I don't ask any more questions. Now I'm excited. Now I'm almost forgetting Kip quasi-dumped me. I take another sip of my vodka, and we run one more mic check to test the levels. The door to my studio is closed, and the acoustic baffles attached to three of the four walls make my voice both soft and razor-sharp. I hope freaky Ian has a good mic. I take my iPhone and place it in the holder of my ring light, then start recording video. 'Okay, let him in.' 'Roger that.' The darkness on my screen turns to light as my guest connects to both audio and video. And now I get my first look at Ian Hindley. It's suddenly so quiet, I want to scream just to feel something. And I know. I just know. This Hindley guy? He's gonna have a hell of a story.
ABOUT 'TELL ME WHAT YOU DID': She gets people to confess their crimes for a living.
MY THOUGHTS: Intense. My heart is still pounding! THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
I read over half in the first sitting than finished the rest over a very lengthy breakfast. I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN! So, if you're planning on reading Tell Me What You Did, and I sincerely hope you are, clear your decks because you are not going to want to do anything else after you start.
There was nothing I didn't love about Tell Me What You Did. I loved that we got to reconnect with Alice from Mr Slender's Girl. But don't worry if you haven't read that particular book - there's nothing you need to know from it that isn't explained here. But please do go back and read it because it's simply one of the best reads ever.
I love that Poe gets the tables turned on her. Instead of being the one asking the sticky questions, she's the one having to answer them.
I loved Poe's character, but wouldn't want to be her. She's edgy, always on guard and throws up a shield to stop anyone getting even remotely close to her. Except for Kip. And even him she keeps at a distance. She lives a purposely isolated life for the same reason. She fears being vulnerable. She is adept at lying. She even lies to her dog, Bailey. I love Bailey.
And Kip was right. Ian Hindley is creepy. He knows things. Things that he shouldn't know. Things that no one should know. Things that only the man who killed Poe's mother Margaret should know. Just who is he?
Beyond this, you don't need to know anything. Buckle yourself in and go into this read blind. Lock the doors and leave the lights on.

”But they don’t know me. They don’t know that I’ve done this before and lived not in guilt but only fear of being caught. They don’t know that sometimes the path to redemption is forged in poison and bullets.”
Poe is the host of a podcast called “tell me what you did”, where she has strangers on anonymously to confess to their crimes. one day, she gets a suspicious guest on her podcast who seems to know the secret Poe’s been hiding and is determined to flip the script— forcing Poe to admit what she’s done this time. i recently stated that i was getting tired of these podcasts thrillers but i think that element was crucial to this storyline, so it worked better for me with this book. Poe was an interesting protagonist cause she’s not just cut and clean, she has a darker side to her. the guest Hindley, is completely deranged and a stalker, the tension was definitely very present. i will say that the reveal wasn’t the most shocking though and i feel like this book could’ve been at least 50 pages shorter cause it started to drag a bit.. still enjoyed it for the most part!
↝ many thanks to NetGalley, the author and Poisoned Pen Press for the arc, all opinions are my own.
You can skip entire chapters with no problem cause nothing really happens. The character is trying soooooo hard to create some suspense, every chapter is finishing in a fake cliffhanger.
The ending is ridiculous and the whole thing it's a waste of time.
Carter Wilson's TELL ME WHAT YOU DID is a gripping thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very first page. Wilson, a new author for me, created an intense, unique plot that weaved together suspense, intrigue, and complex characters.
The story unfolds quite quickly, one where secrets are buried deep, and everyone seems to have something to hide. When our protagonist, Poe, is thrown into a role she normally saves for guests on her podcast, she finds the tables turned, the situation spiraling out of control and into one that tests both her morals and emotional endurance. The narrative takes off at a relentless pace. Wilson expertly crafts a web of mystery and secrets, making it impossible to predict where the story will end up.
I really loved the character of Poe, who although incredibly flawed, is strong, intelligent, and compassionate. Her love for her dog, Bailey, made me feel connected to her in a way only other dog lovers would understand. You truly care about Poe and her fate, understanding her desperation while staring into the face a pure evil. The evil I speak of is truly one of the creepiest antagonists I’ve come across in a long time! Wilson’s writing is both taut and vivid, creating a sense of unease that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page.
If you're a fan of novels that explore the darkest corners of the human mind while keeping you guessing until the very end, TELL ME WHAT YOU DID is a book you’ll devour.
Thank you to NetGalley, Carter Wilson, and Poisoned Pen Press for my ARC of this unputdownable thriller! It was a privilege reading this before publication in January!
I’m a sucker for a revenge thriller, and Carter Wilson’s latest, Tell Me What You Did, takes things up a notch by centering the plot around a true crime podcast. Wilson hooks you from page one and doesn't let go, reeling you in with sharp writing, a breakneck pace, and a protagonist to root for even when you think you shouldn’t. The perfect book for readers who love their thrillers gripping and utterly original.
Storyline isn’t working for me. Wanted to escape into a popcorn thriller but I can’t connect due to implausible plot. Definitely a “me issue” as there are countless raving reviews, so be sure to check those out!
Audio narrators were good but not enough to keep me going….
That's a very generous four star from me. While I liked the premise of the book and the relatively short chapters, this story seemed to take forever to get to the payoff of the cat and mouse game between Poe and Hindley.
All the characters seemed not that well fleshed out either. In the end, I really didn't care if Poe would do the sane thing or go off the deep end because of her stalker. Just wasn't for me.
