Sisterhood #10

When You Need The Best, You Need The Sisterhood. . .

It's been years since the members of the Sisterhood first banded together, with the help of their mentor Charles Martin, to exact their own form of justice on those whose crimes had gone unpunished by the legal system. Now, back in the United States after an enforced exile, and ensconced in a new home on Big Pine Mountain in North Carolina, Myra, Kathryn, Annie, Alexis, Isabelle, Yoko, and Nikki are breathing easy at last--but not for long.

One dark night, under cover of a vicious storm, a helicopter lands on their mountain. The Sisters aren't about to wait to be ambushed. Braving the storm, they set out to greet their guests, only to be told by Charles that the mysterious visitors are the Sisterhood's new employers, and they've got a dangerous new assignment in mind. The task they face is daunting. If they succeed, the Sisterhood will be rewarded beyond their wildest dreams. If they fail, they'll forfeit much more than a paycheck. But if the Ladies of Pinewood have learned one thing over the course of their adventures, it's that when friends band together, miracles can happen. . .

Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

I have to admit I liked this series so much more in the earlier books. They were a little better written, the revenge so much sweeter and the recipients more deserving. Nonetheless I keep reading the series, maybe In anticipation for one written like the beginning few of the series. Now it seems like a lot of the same. Every book has Ted Robinson trying to better them and the whole Myra talking to her dead daughter irritates me. I am open to a spiritual world out there but not in the form of having continuous conversation with dead people and sometimes these conversations as well as conversations with two living people were just silly. This book didn't deal as much with the whole plan of revenge as in the earlier books, they showed putting a whole plan in shape as a good portion of the novel. As the series goes on there is less plot planning and more fluff. I do have some more books from the series I haven't read yet, likely will, but it may soon be time to give this series a rest.

The Sisters got the job done, of course. The story line in this one, however, was somewhat disjointed. The edge wasn't there in this one. In fact, in places a little boring. The basic idea of "bad person gets just desserts" is there and that's good. But no real excitement in this one. Ok, I just listened to this book on CD. It Made a difference. I like it better. There is some excitement and it was great to see the crook get his comeuppance. It would be a better book if there was more fleshing out in parts.

Not so typical of Fern Michaels, this book of the series isn't so contrived. In fact, the depth of her other tomes is nearly lost but the language isn't quite as stilted. She still has the characters going ga-ga over a kiss but at least she's not dwelling on it. Reality check - three characters are in relationships and NONE have gone beyond kissing? Really?

Also, unlike the other books in this series, there was never any edge-of-the-seat action. It seemed more real, more do-able because of this.

Review:
I dont always have alot of luck with Fern Michaels books but when i do its usually involving Spring or Summer Themes in them and this one was no different. Even tho this was only the 2nd Novel ive read by her within the past 5 years, this one is by far my favorite with 3 of my Favorite genres in it.

The Characters were so fun and interesting to read about. It was so hard to pick just one as my favorite since i seemed to like all the characters.

The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in Big Pine Mountain, North Carolina especially when the scenery was described.

Overall a Good Contemporary Mystery in The Sisterhood and Rules of The Games Series'. Can't wait to read more by Fern in the future!!

The Sisters take on Maxwell Zenowicz, the president of The World Bank. He has been stealing money that is slated to go to really poor countries. The Sisters befriend his mistress Rena Gold and get to him through her.

They make him give them the code to his computer, they return the money, they transfer millions of dollars into Rena's bank account and Bsrt Navarro takes Maxwell to Ethiopia never to be seen or heard from again.

Rena goes back to Vegas to start her own business.

And the Sisters go back to Pine Mountain to see what their next mission will be.

I love the concepts of revenge and justice in the Sisterhood books by Fern Michaels, but I feel more and more disappointed by each new entry into the series. The first few books were interesting and different, but the writing has become stilted and some of the dialogue is downright silly. I keep reading because I can't wait to see what happens to the Vigilantes next, but after reading Fast Track, as well as the previous two installments, I felt I had wasted my time.

I am reeeeeally starting to get tired of this series. They need to wrap it up soon or I'm jumping ship. Things are starting to become predictable, the teasing relationships are starting to bore me & the junvenile writing is strating to bug me too. Why do I keep reading them? Because I'm an eternal optimist who is hoping for a different outcome. Wow, SO close to the definition of crazy!

I love other books I have read by Fern Michaels. I didn't connect with this book at all. I felt it went to quickly for me and didn't develop the story and characters as richly as in her other books.

The Sisterhood's first paid mission presents itself shortly after they arrive at another sanctuary mountain hideout, this time back in the United States. But this one is much more complicated than previous missions, requiring them to head back to the city they fled from and are wanted in. With no second-string team to back them up, Jack, Harry, and newcomer Bert assist the original team. Hired to expose the president of The World Bank, the girls devise a plan to befriend his mistress and get back all the money he stole from third-world nations and people groups through his position at the bank. Can they pull off this mission, or will Ted Robinson and his journalist friends finally put the Sisterhood away for good?

The annoyances I have with these books are growing with each title. Before this title, my annoyances were as follows: dead daughter/sister Barb speaking to Myra, Charles, Nikki, journalist Ted Robinson, and the dynamics between Jack and Harry. The new annoyance this title added, which I noticed in the last book but didn't mention, is the kind of "justice" the girls dish out to the perpetrator. In the previous title and this one, the acts of revenge were... meh. I will read book 11 and then reevaluate my continued time investment into this series; number 11 might be it for me.

The President of the World Bank is stealing money that had been appropriated for third world country charities. The Sisterhood was called in and paid 10 million to retrieve the money without anyone knowing. Wealthy donors paid for this money to be found. The Sisterhood made friends with Max’s girlfriend. She was being forced into the relationship with Max. Because he had so much power, she couldn’t escape without being found. The Sisterhood was able to get past security and get into the house, find documents to incriminate him, subdue him and get away. Max was transferred somewhere in the poorest part of Ethiopia. Nikki was able to transfer his funds to the World Bank and help the girlfriend Rena get away with a padded bank account. She flew off to Las Vegas to start a new life. The Sisterhood returned to Big Pine Mountain.

Vigilanties Turn Mercenaries
This is the tenth book in a series about a group of vigilante women. Each of the group has fallen through the cracks of the justice system. They have joined together to right those wrongs. Now that has been completed and they are being offered large sums to right the wrongs of others. Do they want to become Vigilanties for Hire? Wouldn't that make them Hired Guns or Mercenaries? This is a very good episode where life as they know it gets all up-ended. Again. This is a clean episode with no foul language, no bedroom scenes, minimal violence, and no gore. I have read the series in sequence and was wondering if I would get bored. I have not!

Here I go, jumping right in the middle of a series...in this case the Sisterhood, Book 10. I have not read Fern Michaels very often but got the book in a recent book exchange. The book is plot based. Since I am getting into the 10th book, I am assuming much of the character development was done in the earlier books because I did not find much to endear me to the characters. I found the characters flat and the story line very much along the lines of the Charlie's Angels with a central character helping to orchestrate the action also named Charles.

The Sisterhood has visitors. These visitors are their next employees. Their employees are from the World Bank . They want the man who runs the bank to be investigated for theft and for the sisters to find and return the money that he has done something with. To their surprise and relief, they are to return to the US; but must stay out of sight. They are taken to a mountain musch like they had left which is run by an organization much like theirs, only men. They simply switch mountains for while. This puts them close enough to do their job. How will they reach the man in question ?

This is my first Fern Michael's book. The book was okay, I guess I just wished there was more of an ending. Pretty much the entire book was about setting up for the mission and only the last couple of chapters were used to talk about them pulling off the mission and the aftermath. It seemed like the author was being rushed to finish the book because it definitely could've been flushed out a little more.

Once again Fern Michaels has written a novel that is full of surprises. Ted, the reporter for the Post, and two of his associates manage to set off a rumor of a plague in Washington, DC. Ted just can't catch up with the women of the Sisterhood no matter how hard he tries. The usual characters are involved in the plot except for Maggie and Abner. This novel contains a fun, but busy, and probably unplausible plot.

I enjoy reading the books about the sisterhood. Also enjoy that they really don't have to be read in order. In this one the sisterhood is trying to find out how the head of the World Bank in Washington DC is filtering money that should have gone to under privileged countries. Of course, Washington DC is not the town they should be coming back to. With disguises and help from the guys no one realizes they are there.

I love other Fern Michaels stories. I couldn't connect with the storyline or the characters. When I purchased the book, I didn't realize it was one book from a series of stories. I felt there were so many character names throughout the story I could never get a picture in my mind of which name went with a particular character (and how they fit into the assignment.)

Charlie’s Angels at Revenge

The ladies are at it again, this time acting like Robin Hood (for hire) as they steal back money that was absconded by the president of the World Bank. The money was to go to citizens of starving countries to relieve hunger. Add in rats, plague, the CDC and Homeland Security, wild weather, bumbling reporters and it read is a fun quick read

This book on the sisterhood series was another great read. Love to read these as they are so interesting and very hard to put down. The story line is always catchy and intriguing as well as a mystery until the time of the arrival of the vigilantes. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

This book was so awful it almost competes with 50 shades of gray. It was 50 shades of poor writing for sure!! The description of the Asian characters were super cringe. The dialogue read like a SNL skit of an old time gangster movie. I only chose it as it was from the Indian Harbor Book club. I still haven’t found a winner there but my compulsiveness will keep reading all the books on the shelf.

Another great read

Sisterhood strikes again... The ladies are on the trail of the President of the World Bank and all the money he swindled.. A twist is when Charles is in danger on his mountain and out of touch for a couple days.. Everyone is in need of a 2 week vacation. Bring on the next adventure.

Sisters are at it again!

I chose this rating as it was deserved because of the quality of writing. I loved the back and forth between all the characters and so much imagination of their torture. This is for anyone cheering for the little girls in life that seem to be bullied my the upper class. Great story of women working together ❤

A hit from the start

Years ago I started reading this series and somehow lost touch with it. To my surprise I came across this book and see the author has continued the series. What I like about the book is its light, funny, has action and is a series anyone can find worthwhile reading.

Each book gets better!

I am so enjoying this series. I love the girls and Charles. I cannot wait for their next adventure. Each book gives an opportunity to cheer the righting of justice that goes wrong all to often in this world. It would make an amazing series on one of the streaming services.

Super easy to read. I'm assuming the earlier books had more character development but based on this book, I won't bother to see. Story was kind ignoring g. Took me only a few hours to read. I prefer less simplistic writing styles.

Another great vigilante novel,

Fern Michaels does a great job with the vigilantes in this novel! I love the way that she brings others into the vigilantes fold which seems to expand their family in just the right way!
