Zooooo. Wat een magnifieke tekeningen. Prachtig. Met ook een goed verhaal. Levenslessen op een natuurlijke manier vertelt. Een verademing. Tussen de regels door voor de goede verstaander mooie dingen. Bijvoorbeeld: kies niet persé de weg van de minste weerstand, volg je gevoel. Het is een genot om dit boek te lezen en te herlezen. Voor hoop in donkere dagen.

De kleine pup Amaya dwaalt al dagen alleen door het bos, op zoek naar haar ouders die ze tijdens een storm is kwijtgeraakt, als ze wordt gered door een oude, wijze wolf die door zijn roedel is verstoten. Samen besluiten ze de maan te volgen, omdat Amaya’s moeder haar ooit vertelde dat als je met heel je hart de maan volgt, zij je zal brengen waar je moet zijn.
Dit is echt een verhaal in plaats van losse spreuken & fragmenten en aangevuld met prachtige illustraties ga je op weg met de wolf en de hond, geeft de wolf haar lessen en wijsheid mee, ontstaat er een bijzondere band en wordt dit een mooi verhaal over het volgen van je eigen maan, niet opgeven, de ervaringen tijdens je reis die je vormen, mogelijkheden zien in alles wat je overkomt, vriendschap en liefde, vertrouwen en troost, afscheid en verlies, groei en alles wat je hart nooit meer verlaat.
“‘Het is belangrijk om te onthouden dat we soms niet beloond worden, dat onze strijd, ons geduld en ons optimisme voor niets zullen zijn.

My dad gave me this for Christmas. A story about the journey of life and always following your heart. Featured in the WSJ. Going to have the twins read too. Perfect book before starting the new year.

به اندازه بقیه کتاب های جیمز نوربری دوسش نداشتم. همچنین کتاب تو رسوندن مفهوم و هدفی که میخواست برسونه زیاد موفق نبود. در کل زیاد پیشنهادش نمیکنم بهتره کتاب های دیگه این نویسنده رو بخونین.

Wat een mooi boek over je hart volgen, in het moment leven, afscheid nemen en vertrouwen hebben. Het stemde me soms verdrietig, maar het gaf ook hoop en richting. Met mooie tekeningen die het verhaal goed ondersteunen

This was a book that was provided to me and since it is basically a picture book I chose to give it a quick read.
The Dog Who Followed the Moon is a story that explores inspirational themes by inserting its wisdom as the sayings of an old wolf to a young puppy as they start on a journey along the way. Very rarely do other characters appear to drop their own nuggets even if they are oft repeated platitudes.
If I had been younger and more focused on a
the story rather than its message I may have provided this book a higher rating as it is simple to read and understand while having gorgeous artwork.
Unfortunately my state of belief couldn't be suspended though as the story is too unbelievable and doesn't make sense while at the same time easily guessable. Why is there a puppy in the woods and in the wintry mountains where there are no signs of any habitation? Why can't the alpha, experienced in fighting, make the pack accept a new member or if he is so weak why didn't the story end there?
What did they eat the whole time and how did they survive without eating? What kind of ruins just magically keep going on and on in a place with no signs of otherwise human habitation that would save the puppy? And how do you have flooded streets in a wintry environment with a freezing wind ?
Then there is how is there a cat around the place the puppy supposedly remembers staying at that doesn't seemingly know the puppy's family or even enough to re-direct the companions?
Cute and deep in some regards but missing too much story for me to enjoy this book as a whole.

I read this in 30 minutes this morning while my husband and daughter were still asleep. It’s basically a long picture book. I felt a little embarrassed to have tears streaming down my face when they woke up and found me.
I think a younger me would’ve found this book very corny, but here I am in my 40s weeping over a fictional wolf who helps a fictional puppy search for her lost family. I don’t think it’s equivalent to crying over a sappy commercial, but it’s somewhere in that zone. There is nothing in this story that I hadn’t heard before (the concepts are Buddhist) but this book really hit me. Maybe because I love dogs and our sweet dog died a year and a half ago and we are going to meet a new dog to possibly adopt tomorrow. Also today is my mom’s birthday and I feel very grateful for her. Also in a few days we are going to have a certain president again and it’s very depressing for me as a woman and as a human. This book is a lovely reminder that so much of life is beyond our control, but that is not a reason to despair.

Reflections and lessons learned/the content of this book made me feel…
…emotional but comforted by the thought of it all. As beautiful as ever with a large spoonful of yummy anthropomorphism and a big set of tears. Purposely picked up to finish on a relaxing Mother’s Day and family based weekend sat in the sun to try and soften some of the blow!

بیشتر از این که به داستان توجه کنم تصویرها چشممو گرفتن و واقعا فوقالعاده بودن. توی نمایشگاه خوندم و چیزی میخواستم که خیلی وقتمو نگیره اما با این حال انقدر حجم «مسیر رو در آغوشت بگیر» و عذر میخوام از این گندهگوزیها ��شت هر جمله و حرف سادهای بود که از روشون میپریدم که دقیق نخونمشون و عصبی شم. برای کتاب خوندن موقع وقتکشی هم کافی بود هم نبود.

In ‘De hond, de wolf en de maan’ spelen twee dieren de hoofdrol. We leren eerst de kleine hond Amaya kennen, die terwijl ze door het bos dwaalt de Wolf ontmoet. Het boek bestaat uit heel weinig tekst en op bijna elke pagina staat een keurige, eenvoudige tekening. In het begin krijg je een mooie schets van de omgeving waarin het verhaal zich afspeelt, waardoor je je meteen goed kan inleven. Ondanks dat er maar een paar zinnen tekst bij elke afbeelding staan, bouwt Norbury langzaam zijn verhaal op zodat je Amaya en de Wolf op een rustige manier kan leren kennen.
Ondanks de beperkte tekst blijven de gevoelens van beide personages niet onbesproken. Amaya voelt zich verloren omdat ze haar ouders niet vindt en ook de Wolf zit niet lekker in zijn vel. De dieren zoeken samen de ouders van Amaya door de maan te volgen. Onderweg hebben ze het over belangrijke thema’s als liefde, verdriet, dood, doorzettingsvermogen en loslaten. Quotes als “Soms zorgt de aanwezigheid van anderen ervoor dat we kunnen stralen” raken je tot in je ziel. De dieren voelen door hun wijsheid heel menselijk aan. Opmerkelijk is dat de hond hier een naam heeft gekregen en dat de wolf gewoon Wolf wordt genoemd. Amaya is een Japanse meisjesnaam en betekent ‘nachtelijke regen’ of ‘moederstad’. Dat past perfect bij de sfeer die het verhaal oproept, want Amaya en de Wolf passeren o.a. gebouwen in Japanse stijl.
Norbury heeft de gave om in weinig zinnen aandacht te hebben voor de details, zoals de handelingen van de dieren. Sneeuw uit hun vacht schudden, hun voetafdrukken in het sneeuwtapijt… je beleeft dit verhaal heel intens door de relatief korte zinnen zonder veel stilistische tierlantijntjes. Het boek leest enorm vlot, maar Norbury is erin geslaagd om tegelijk ook je leestempo af te remmen door de levenslessen in heldere taal en slim gevonden metaforen te verwoorden. Daardoor reflecteer je sowieso over je eigen leven.
De grootste kracht van dit verhaal schuilt echter in de opmaak. De wijsheden die Norbury zijn lezers probeert bij te brengen, gingen lang niet zo krachtig geweest zijn als er meer tekst op één pagina had gestaan. Tekst en beeld zijn hier onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. Je ziet op de tekening wat je leest, maar dat is niet nefast voor je verbeeldingskracht. Norbury blijft zich focussen op de dieren en hoe hij ze tekent, tilt de tekst naar een hoger niveau. De emoties die hij beschrijft en zelfs bepaalde gebeurtenissen komen sterker binnen door de opmaak van het boek. Zo kiest Norbury ervoor om bijvoorbeeld maar één zin op een pagina te zetten. Dat doet hij o.a. met de zin “Er hing een stilte in het winterse bos.”. Door die zin centraliseren benadrukt hij de stilte en beleef je het verhaal nog intenser.

کتابی دلنشین بود در سبک و فضای دو کتاب قبلی که از جیمز نوربری خواندم _ *اژدهای کوچک و پاندای بزرگ * و * سفر؛ اژدهای کوچک و پاندای بزرگ _
باز هم در این کتاب داستان یک سفر روایت میشود که در پی تنهایی و پیدا کردن خود آغاز و در میانه با همراهی یک همسفر و در نهایت تنهایی مجدد و یافتن مسیری جدید پایان می یابد .
ماه ، در اینجا نماد هدف است و داستان ، راهی است که باید برای رسیدن به آن طی کنی و به پختگی برسی .
این کتاب رو همراه با پسرم خواندم و هر دو لذت بردیم از خوانش آن .
باز هم در این کتاب داستان یک سفر روایت میشود که در پی تنهایی و پیدا کردن خود آغاز و در میانه با همراهی یک همسفر و در نهایت تنهایی مجدد و یافتن مسیری جدید پایان می یابد .
ماه ، در اینجا نماد هدف است و داستان ، راهی است که باید برای رسیدن به آن طی کنی و به پختگی برسی .

Het verhaal raakten mij wel weer zoals de vorige boeken. Ook het thema overleven en overlijden waren wel mooi verwerkt. Ik ben benieuwd of er meer gaat komen over de reis van Amaya
