The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏 Character development: 🙂🥰☺️😎 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Elody - she lives in a world where humans know about supernaturals. She actually dated a vampire in the past, though he was not a good guy and ended up putting her in the hospital. Ever since then, she has been protective of other human women who date supernaturals. So, when she is in a coffee shop one day, studying for her college degree, and she sees a woman outside arguing with a very tall and unnaturally handsome man, she gets in between them to make sure he doesn’t get violent with her.
The Hero:August - he is a dragon shifter and former leader of the Thunder (his clan). Dragon shifters are the guards of the supernatural prison inside the mountain. August always knew that he wasn’t meant to be the leader. Most dragon shifters are born male, and when a female is born, they are human and sent away from the mountain to live with humans. When his sister Brynn was born and his parents died, he promised to raise her, which he did. When his brothers were not there to help protect her, he made a deal with the Villains to help protect her. The Villains were demon brothers and making this deal was against dragon law.
The Story: August was about to get put in supernatural prison for six months for making that deal, when he was arguing with his sister Brynn outside the coffee shop she owns. When Elody steps in, August touches her and the mating heat is passed from him to her. They are forced to spend four weeks together in his cabin to try to wait out the heat. He is given time before going to prison, but if they give in to the heat and form a bond, Elody would have to go to prison with August which would be very dangerous.
This was a good story, though there wasn’t a lot of conflict, and there was a lot of intimate scenes. It was steamy and sweet. I tend to love the normal girl in a paranormal world trope, and I liked that dragons were the least known of the supernaturals and there was a lot of mystery surrounding them. The dragon shifters also kept their secrets close to the vest and had rules about telling just anyone about them. I wish the plot was more fleshed out because I had questions as to why making that deal with the demons was so bad.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Nick Mondelli and Renee Thorne. Renee Thorne has a great voice. I usually don’t like female narrators that have deeper voices, but I enjoyed hers. I wasn’t all that fond of Nick Mondelli, though he only narrated a few chapters, so it worked out well.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
I've been in a mood lately and this book was exactly what my brain wanted! I loved it! The vibes were on point! It's been a long time since I've finished a book this quickly. The chemistry was fantastic, the world-building was not a big part of the story but what was part of it was great. I'd love to know more in future books!
This book was such a good read! I've not read a dragon romance yet but my, oh my 🥵! Plot + spice = perfect for us smut lovers! August and Elodie had the most heated chemistry and passion!! ✨5/5 ✨
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for approving me for this audiobook! The best mornings are waking up to an approval email :)
-》Review《- At the end of the book description, there is a claimed 'Happy Ending' <---<--- THIS is what made me request this book!!
The main characters are Elody and August, August is a dragon and Elody is human. The book starts out with conflict and quickly escalates, which almost deterred me from continuing, but it gets better! The main trope is forced proximity, one of my favorites. Overall, this book is mostly smut, besides lust you can say the main characters don't know northing about each other. You can tell the author TRIED to give the feeling of them falling in love, but it is overshadowed by the sex scenes. Their love is purely physical and a tad but emotional. The ✨️plot✨️ is there and I couldn't put this book down! It is well written!! It does include one of my least favorite tropes though, and that is the famous 'girl can't live without the boy' trope. Elody suffers when August leaves and kinda forgets how to live. I hate these tropes, because they fantasize toxic codependency. It's made bearable by Elody's friends and their group dynamic.
The book is narrated by Renee Thorn and Nick Mondelli. These both did an amazing job at narrating! I was laughing so hard at Renee Thorn's male character voice, and even HARDER at Nick Mondelli's female character voice 😂😂
Thank you NetGalley for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This was a great short but super spicy fantasy romance.
This was my first book by Lola Glass, and I loved it. I do wish I had started with her previous books though because while it does work well as a standalone, it’s obvious that there’s some backstory about the side characters and the world building from previous books that would’ve made this one even better.
The beginning and middle of this book doesn’t have a lot of plot, mostly just spice and romance. The end is has a whole lot more plot though and while I loved the spice and romance, the added plot towards the end really made me care a lot and enjoy the whole book a lot more.
The FMC and MMC were both strong and well written characters. Their banter was perfect and they equally help each other through everything. They actually felt like equal partners which doesn’t happen enough in human/shifter romances. The spice was absolutely delicious as well.
The book ended perfectly with a nicely wrapped up (and well earned) HEA and just enough of a sneak peak into what the next book will be about. Definitely will be reading more from the author.
Elodi (I hope I'm spelling that right as I only heard the name pronounced) and August accidently ignite a dragon mate process called heat, right before August is supposed to go to jail for the illegal means he took to protect his sister (which i personally think he was completely justified in doing). Mates cannot be separated once their seal their mate bond, so Elodi and August have to resist the mate bond's magic, despite the insatiable lust they feel for each other... for four weeks. It should come as no surprise that this book is essentially smut. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely! I kept finding myself thinking "girl why are you resisting this man?!... oh right, impending jail..." Someone please stick me in a gorgeous cabin in the woods with a gorgeous, built man who caters to my every need and cooks for me, with no financial or work responsibilities. That sounds like heaven! Does our duo manage to stave off sealing their mate bond and keep Elodi from going to jail with August? Read this book to find out.
This is a dual narrated audiobook. The voice actor for Elodi did a great job, different voices for the different characters and kept a great pace and flow through the book and keep the listener engaged. I wasn't super into the voice of the male voice actor, but he did a good job on his chapters. His voices were a little harder to distinguish for some of the male characters, but overall still able to tell who was saying what (more or less).
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance listen audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
If you want something quick and straightforward, this is for you. If you're looking for a story with more depth and world-building, you might want to skip this one.
***Thank you to NetGalley, Lola Glass, and Dreamscape Media for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***
I strongly believe she just wanted to write a book about Total Home Renovations but had to bring in some sort of smut to get people to read it. Yes, that’s a dragon but have you seen how the wood of the cabinets stands out against the dark colors of the new kitchen table????
On one hand, this was ridiculous and most definitively not an enlightening piece of literature. On the other hand, it was hilarious and never claimed to be anything more than that.
I received this book for for free as an advanced reader audiobook copy.
I enjoyed the narrators. They did a pretty good job. This is dual POV with a male and female narrator.
Most of this is told from the POV of the heroine and I would've loved more from the hero.
I wish I could rate this higher but the plot is a bit ridiculous and there were quite a few things that made this less fun than it could've otherwise been.
The whole premise is that they have gotten too close to each other and dragons send their potential mates into "heat". They have four weeks of excruciating need for sex in order to "seal the deal" Or resist and be able to walk away afterwards.
The world building is bizarre!
1. Dragons are only male 2. Once a dragon is mated they cannot fly unless their mate is with them 3. Therefore, most dragons don't want to find a mate because they'd like to fly!
The hero for whatever reason is supposed to go to jail for six months and so even though they have an unquenchable need for the sexy times, they must resist so that she doesn't have to go to jail with him.
I found it frustrating because he thinks that they are together but allows her to feel unsure about this. She ends up having to pursue him in order for them to have a relationship. And I really hate when the woman has to be pursuer because the man won't communicate clearly.
Safety deets - No other men or other women; however, the hero is very jealous and possessive and doesn't want her to be touched or even wear anything that smells like anyone else. - The hero is a virgin! So that is cool! - The heroine has experience, having a past vampire boyfriend. - We get to see them in their HEA In the epilogue. - consent was great
World building is minimal, plot is minimal, but the angsty sexual tension bits are well done. Did the lack of plot and world building matter much? Nope. Did I enjoy it? Yup. Will I read the next book? Yup. Much love to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for my ALC.
This was flipping adorable I kept stopping it because it was super inappropriate to play infront of others. There is a lot of foreplay and it’s pretty graphic so if you listen. Please wear headphones. Overall a good story and I enjoyed the little bit of background we got from some of the side characters. The epilogue leads you into the next match which I am super excited to read !!
This was just cheap bad erotica very desperately trying to be more
I knew what I was getting into when I read the synopsis but bro was this a heavy lumpy bit more trashierr than expected. Not saying I wasn’t entertained by how bad this was.
Now to justify the rating I have listed a few reasons:
The writing style was very repetitiv, conclusions or statements were repeatedly pushed down the readers throat to really make sure we understand that no touchie means autschiee for her like come on we get it. The world building was so bad so may question as about the other supernatural and how society functions there also the only place they visited more than 2 times was the damn porch. The passage of time was horribly done it would just be “and I worked and he massaged me and movie and that for that next day as well” do you have no hobbies? Maybe actually show us them talking and actually building a more emotional bond while they try resisting the physical attraction they feel. She wrote things about them that you just could not see: “ I am a stubborn bitch” girl where wo woooo when?! The way they resolved the jail problem at the end was mindblowingly bad I could not believe that shit. The dragon bosses he answers to seem so dumb too. What I’m trying to say the character building sucked. The world building sucked. The writing style sucked. The storyline sucked. Ngl I don’t even know if the potential to make this something good or great was even there.
To sum it up This was just cheap bad erotica very desperately trying to be more.
For me, this entire thing was about s*x and had no real plot. I wanted the dangers and adventure of being mated to a supernatural being, and instead got a whole book about being in heat like animals.
DNF @ 10 pages in??? I mean I’m sure you understand why. Ten pages in and she’s already getting into his car? Talk about a really fast plot with no sensibility. I tried and put it aside. Yeah. No
with under 300 pages a quick and easy read featuring a dragon shifter MMC and a human FMC. the story is focused on them mating (or trying not to) with few side characters and not that much plot. for tropes you can expect forced proximity, mating, he falls first.
especially in the beginning the writing style felt rough and could've been better articulated. besides from taking the FML flying a few times there weren't much dragon-y things happening. apart from that the dragons could've been butterfly shifters instead.
idek what i read but it wasn’t bad nor was it a literary masterpiece lmao. i downloaded this on my kindle to read during my long ass flight, and i finished it in half the duration of the flight. aka i flew through the book 🤣🤣🛬
i mean, it’s about a dragon shifter and a human female that accidentally ignite a heat, where they then fight against their urges so that they don’t seal a mating bond, while also secluding themselves in a cabin in the mountains to do so. make of that what you will!!!
Foi definitivamente insta-love, quando se lê livros com "mates" acaba por ser o normal, achei que a história podia ter sido melhor desenvolvida, mas o romance foi divertido, gostei dos personagens e, claro, foi spicy 👀🌶
I came for fire, danger, chaos and a dragon ready to burn the world down for his mate. What I got was a puff of smoke and a heroine with the personality of dry toast.
If you’re into plot holes big enough to fly a dragon through, you’re in for a treat. He calls her Fireball, which at first had me kicking my feet… but then he kept saying it. Over. And over. And over.
This is spice forward and it’s not bad but when the characters have all the chemistry of boiled cabbage, it’s basically wasted steam.
Somehow this book made dragons feel the opposite of magnificent. How do you even mess up dragons?
Final verdict: 2/5. I wanted a dragon shifter. I got a deflated pool floatie with scales.
Lola Glass is a fun author and I generally like her stuff. But this one is even lighter on background than usua. Who is the FMC’s ex? What happened? It is indicated that what happened put her in the hospital so he hurt her but what’s the story there? And she seemed scarred at the beginning but then got over it and says that she told August and it’s all cool now. Like what? And why was getting Bash to protect Brynn a punishable offense? So many questions.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing style from the jump, but the author completely lost me at “bubble of his ass”. Bubble of his ass???? Yeah, that’s an actual real life quote. Also, the incessant use of ‘dickward’ (or any use at all actually) was ridiculous.
A great reminder to myself NOT to read books simply because the cover is pretty.
Never write reviews but felt compelled to warn others not to waste their time. I’m not normally a harsh critic and definitely don’t mind an averagely written fun book but this was actually terrible. Such poor, slow writing, spelling out every single action. One dimensional characters, questionable plot and the smut was nothing special - boring at times
