Finding true love is only a matter of time in this heartfelt and hilarious romantic comedy, starring Zoë Chao (The Afterparty), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), and a full cast!

Romance can be a little complicated when you get sucked into a wormhole. Just ask high school English teacher June Flint. One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Your favorite stuffed-crust pizza from DeLucia’s on Sunday nights.

But when June’s cell phone inexplicably picks up a signal, she’s able to call back to the present—more specifically, four weeks before she accidentally time traveled. Problem is, the phone can only call one number: her work nemesis, gym teacher Mikey Shannon.

Now future June must help Mikey befriend present-day June to keep her from disappearing. But present-day June doesn't even want to be in the same room as Mikey, let alone become besties. And Mikey isn’t exactly...talkie. Yet he’s spending hours a day with future June on the phone, and even more time trying to befriend present-day June. Volunteering with June at school, check. Facing his fear of roller coasters to make June smile, check. Adopting a puppy and letting her name it. Check.

But what does succeeding in the present mean for future June, and for the serious feelings she and Mikey are starting to catch for one another? Stopping time travel is one thing—but can they stop themselves from falling in love?

Hi, I’m Cara!
I’m a full time writer living and writing in Brooklyn with my husband, son, and an almost-goldendoodle. My goal with my work is to find the swoon in ordinary love stories.

I’ve been a fan of the romance genre since I found a grocery bag filled with my grandmother’s old Harlequin Romances when I was in high school. I’m a fangirl for pretzel sticks, long walks through Prospect Park, and love stories featuring men who aren’t crippled by their own masculinity.

I really enjoy this author's audiobooks. The narration and the production are always excellent, and I love the added sound effects. Noah Reid and Zoë Chao narrate this one and, honestly, I could also talk to Noah on the phone for hours. 🥰

The storyline in this one is quite unique. Due to a solar flare, June finds herself 85 years in the future and the only number she can call belongs to her work nemesis, gym teacher Mikey. He wants to help her keep present-day June from disappearing on the same day, but first he has to befriend her. Which is not an easy task.

It was so interesting to see how Mikey's relationship with future June and present-day June develops, because they seem quite different. I loved learning more about them along the way. Their conversations are really fun and I found both characters so endearing. I was a bit worried how the story would end and what it would mean for one of Junes, but the ending was perfect.

This was such a fun audiobook! The production on this audiobook was fantastic, full cast (including Noah Reid from Schitts Creek!! who I adore!!!!!!) and it had so many cool sound effects and you could easily visualize each scene. This story is like 90% dialogue, which was a cool experience. I loved the time travel elements of the story and the romance was cute too.

”I can take care of both versions of you”

My first time listening to audiobook and it was so cute and fun! This was such a cute time loop rom con. I really liked the sound effects and it made me laugh multiple times, but I didn’t really feel the chemistry between June and Mikey. It was really fun to listen to, and I do recommend it, it just wasn’t my favorite story concept.

I absolutely love full-cast narrated audiobooks. Cara Bastone’s in particular have a lot of cool audio effects and sound so neat, especially on headphones. This one had an interesting sci-fi element to it. I enjoyed the characters but the story felt off to me. The romance lover in me wanted more time with June and Mikey as a couple. Overall I liked this one, but it wasn’t my fave from this author.

Heat/Steam: N/A
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 🙂🥰☺️😂😋
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration ✨Full Cast✨

The heroine: June Flint - she is in her early thirties, and she recently made a career change. She is now in her dream job as a high school english teacher. Shaping young minds and all that. She feels strongly about encouraging students' creativity. On her first day in her new job, she sees Mikey Shannon, and she drives into a bunch of garbage cans. She has always had social anxiety, especially when it comes to talking to men.

The Hero: Mikey Shannon - he was a high school and college athlete, always the hometown hero and he returned to town to coach and took his high school team to two state championships. He then quit to coach at the college, but it didn’t work out, so he went back teach physical education at the high school. He is good with the kids but doesn’t volunteer to help much at the school and doesn’t speak up much in meetings.

The Story: The book begins with the world going a little crazy. The northern lights are seen in the sky over nearly a month often taking out all cell service, then a huge solar flare happens and though many people stay indoors, June keeps to her routine because she is in charge of the free breakfast program at the school and doesn’t want to let down the kids. However, during the solar flare, June is somehow propelled through a wormhole and ends up 85 years in the future.

June is able to make a phone call on her cell, and somehow, she ends up connected with Mikey a month before the solar flare happened. She explains her situation to him and asks for his help. He agrees even though he doesn’t really know what to believe. She asks him to befriend past June and somehow stop June from being where she was on that day, so she doesn’t get pulled through the wormhole. She finds that she can keep calling him and they work together to get him to be friends with past June, who basically runs away whenever he tries to talk to her.

The story is extremely original and so fun. The two main characters spend most of their time together on the phone. Sometimes future June is even on the phone in his earpiece when he talks to past June, so she cheers him on. Mikey ends up becoming more involved and they both learn things about themselves and becoming very close. I almost didn’t listen to this one, because even though I really liked the previous Cara Bastone audiobooks, they were all a bit too happy, jolly, romantic comedy and I haven’t really been in the mood for a book like that. I am glad I picked it up though because I really liked the characters and the story.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Noah Reed and Zoe Chao. Both of these narrators are new to me, but I really liked them both. Like Bastone’s previous books, this was done with full cast duet narration including sound effects. So, you could hear the background noises like people walking, doorbells, and future June sounded like she was further away, like she was on the other end of the phone. This was overall a terrific book and the narration was perfect.

At this point, I no longer rely on reviews on any of Cara Bastone’s works. I’ve read 4 of hers and rated those books no less than 5 stars. Positive or not, I’ll devour her releases like candy. And “Maybe This Time”, a wonderful take on the commonly used time travel trope yet one that doesn't sound trite and cringe, is no exception.

Despite loving the plot, I know that its entirety could be reduced from its close to six hours runtime. But come on, June and Mikey’s astute conversations meant the book isn't just patronizing love and romance containing the usual elements and tropes that make readers swoon. It lets readers in on the range of topics two people who have known each other since childhood yet have grown as strangers suddenly get accidentally re-acquainted by a cosmic glitch.

But the real gem is in its full cast, Dolby Atmos experience. The first time I've listened to an Audible Original, in particular the scripted audio dramas, there's no escaping its immersive quality.

Funny, charming, with a pocket full of perspectives on love, “Maybe This Time” will surely whisk you away (maybe) not by Aladdin’s magic carpet, but by Archibald Wheeler’s idea of wormholes.

Oh, and I am in love with Noah Reid. So, there's that.

”I can take care of both versions of you.”

Why is this kinda a masterpiece? It’s so sweet and the plot reminds me of 13 Going on 30 x See You Yesterday. Mikey is definitely a new book bf. It’s the way he’s so supportive of her and completely fell first and harder. Also the thing with solar flares and northern lights is so oddly timely…

“I can take care of both versions of you.”

Why does Cara Bastone always write the most cutest, cheesiest, and sweetest love stories and make me believe in love, perfect men, and soulmates—only for me to come back to the worst reality of the world? This novella was so good. I love the time-travelling and fate concept. The whole let’s spice up some things by sending one of them 85 years into the future because they sure aren’t going to meet and fall in love the normal way?

Mikey was perfect—the sweetest, kindest, and most helpful man, who didn’t even blink an eye to help future June. He just does whatever she tells him to do. He’s the cutest, and the way he adopted a dog just so he could talk to present June? Made her his main priority in both timelines? My heart melted right out of my body 🫠🦋

The romance was perfection! The dialogues were hilarious but also deeply emotional. June and Mikey make the cutest couple 🥹💞 I love their phone calls, their conversations about poetry, life, and just everything in between. I just love them. Period.

I seriously need to find a solar flare so I can teleport myself to the future, then future me needs to call my soulmate in the present and tell him to go and seduce present me 😭

I loved the audiobook, and every moment of it was enjoyable. This was the last Audible Original by Cara, and I’m really sad that there are no more—no more cute little stories to make me giggle and smile like a lovesick puppy while walking down the road or doing my laundry. I hope she never stops writing love stories like these ones!

🎯 My Thoughts:

June’s found herself 5 years in the future and her phone will only call one number: Mikey’s—her coworker at the school she teaches at. Mikey, the school’s gym teacher, is an unassuming, sweetheart of a man, so he tries to help present-day June (who has NO clue about future June’s predicament) avoid falling into the wormhole that leaves her without contact to her mom (who has dementia) or any other person from her life. The issue? June is PAINFULLY shy and avoids Mikey, until future June helps him crack open her shell. What will become of the dual Junes? Will Mikey successfully help June?

The Good: This is another cute and sweet love story from Cara Bastone. The characters were non-combative, emotionally mature (though still human), and the plot was mostly interesting.

The (Maybe) Not So Good: It’s quick in length, but I found the plot to be repetitive and it sometimes felt like filler. I also am still confused about the whole inciting incident that started this plot. I feel like the resolution was confusing and only happened because it had to end somehow. Additionally, I know I shouldn’t care about logistics of a time-travel romance, but how did her phone not die?

Would I recommend?: sigh. As a fan of Cara Bastone, if you want to complete her works, for sure read this one. If your TBR is brimming with other books that catch your interest, you could skip this one and probably be none-the-wiser. If ranking is your thing, imo this would be lower in her oeuvre of books. I liked it better than Better Luck Next Time but less than Promise Me Sunshine, Ready or Not, and her Love Lines series. But it’s probably tied with Love at First Psych or a smidge lower.

The story's charm lies in its exploration of time, love, and destiny. It’s not just about preventing time travel...it's about learning to live fully in the present, even when faced with uncertainty about the future. Mikey is a swoon-worthy love interest, showing his vulnerability and dedication through small, meaningful gestures that gradually chip away at June’s defenses.

It can be an excellent palate cleanser between some heavier reads, and if you enjoy audiobooks, give it a chance.

3.5 stars! This was cute and fun! I read every single thing that Cara Bastone writes, so when I saw this new audible original drop, I had to jump in. This is a quirky, fun, full cast narration and tackles time travel with a twist!

If you’ve tried this author’s other audible originals, then this is similar in having quirky convos and characters who don’t actually spend time together (like in the same room/same place) until a lot later into the book. We get a lot of fun conversations instead that almost feel like a podcast you are tuning in to or a phone call between two people you accidentally overhear. Very conversational, quirky, and fun! Not my favorite thing by this author, but a quick cute time.

The actual plot of this book? 2-3 stars. My enjoyment level listening to yet another one of Cara Bastone’s lovely specifically-meant-for-audio books? 4-5 stars. I’ll give it 4 stars for that enjoyment factor alone.

Plot is fun yet utterly ridiculous (still worth the read/listen), and the narration is top notch. This was my first time listening to Noah as an audiobook narrator versus an on-screen actor, and he exceeded all my expectations. Zoë’s narration is fantastic as well, and they make wonderful listening companions for all 5.5 hours of this audiobook.

If you’re looking for a book that will make you smile while you listen, this one is great. If you’re looking for a book with a sci-fi plot that is at all plausible, this book is not for you…but honestly? You’ll probably still enjoy it.

Cara Bastone has repeatedly earned her place as one of my very few “Buy the book/audiobook immediately without even knowing what the book is about” authors. She is the absolutely master of leaving me feeling warm and fuzzy when I walk away from her books, yet managed to have stories that are neither overly cheesy/predictable.

I read about 200 books per year, and let me tell you, I can usually guess the entire plot 5 pages into the book. With Cara Bastone’s stories, they’re always just a little bit different—I’m never skimming the page or half-listening to the audio, which is really nice.

4 stars. This is a really cute short story, it’s low angst and fun. I’m not usually a fan of “full cast of characters” audiobooks, they always feel a bit overproduced to me, but this was pretty good.😬

I do think the time traveling details got a little bit wonky towards the end, but overall, I was impressed with how well this book came together. The MCs, especially the hero, were both pretty awesome. TBH, this could have easily been a full length novel and I would have loved it even more.

Safety is good, some mild OM drama and there’s no spice at all.

SO CUTE!! I love audible originals! I did NOT read the synopsis before going into this as is the norm for me and only downloaded it because I knew the author so suffice it to say I was shocked when the FMC calls the MMC from 85 years in the future! This is such a fun time traveling, love finding, growth seeking adventure. I loved the narration/performances so much and I really feel like the narrators embodied all aspects of their characters. I always rate books based on how I feel in the moment and this one made me cry so it’s a solid 4 stars!!!

4.75 stars - and yes, I cried.

I was just minding my own business, listening to the audiobook, brushing my teeth before bed… and then this one scene hit so hard I had actual tears running down my face. Like?? Rude?? How dare this book sneak attack my emotions like that!

This story is short, sweet, hilarious, and unexpectedly deep - and the audiobook is perfection. But let’s talk about the MMC: an absolute cinnamon roll, top-tier soft boy energy, the kind of man who cares out loud and would 1000% bring you soup when you’re sick and memorize your coffee order just because. I fell hard.

The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars is because it ended and I wasn’t ready to let go. I could’ve read 300 more pages of this. If you want a rom-com with laughs, heart, and one truly swoony man? Pick. This. Up.

Audiobook Review
Overall 4 stars
Performance 5+ stars
Story 3.5 stars

I have always enjoyed Cara Bastone's writing, so I went into this one blind. The premise is a quirky one for sure and I think as long as you don't truly try to understand the how and why of the time travel/wormholes, you will have a really enjoyable listening experience.

The characters were very sweet and this was a wonderful twist on the forced proximity trope. Mikey was such a loveable golden retriever! The full cast narration and sound effects were a fantastic surprise and the book played out just like a movie. Noah Reid and Zoe Chao were so perfectly cast and they brought Cara Bastone's amazing banter to life. I was grinning while listening to this one and though there are some more serious topics discussed in the story, the overall message is very heartwarming and hopeful.

This was such an adorable story and just the kind I love when it comes to this genre. Friendship, humour and love are joined by a time travel element to make this wonderfully narrated Audible Original a great listen.

High school English teacher June, has been transported to a timeline 85 years ahead during a solar flare and she's been alone and desperate to contact her ailing mother for 5 years when her phone finally picks up a signal and connects her to, of all people,Mikey Shannen, the gym teacher at her school. Faced with no choice, June appeals to Mikey to befriend her in the present timeline and prevent whatever caused her to be drawn into the future in 4 weeks time. This proves easier said than done because June suffers from social anxiety and Mikey is very shy. However he promises to try to get close to her.

I loved the conversations Mikey had with the June in the future and could relate to her wanting to change aspects of her own personality that so frustrated her when looking back from the future. Mikey's commitment to helping and his attempts are funny and June in the present day is really difficult to draw out but when he does, she's not at all the recluse she appeared. Their banter and the way they got drawn to each other and the confusion in Mikey's mind about his feelings for one woman in two different dimensions was fun. I thought the manner in which they buoyed each other up was very positive. June as a teacher was fabulous too.

The narration really played a big role in how good this was and the multi cast got it perfect.
