Jennifer Rothschild is a recovering perfectionist who has learned to live beyond limits ever since her life drastically changed at the age of fifteen, when she lost her sight. Now, more than 30 years later, she boldly and compassionately teaches women how to find contentment, walk with endurance, and celebrate the ordinary.
She's the author of ten books, including the best-selling Lessons I Learned in the Dark, Self Talk, Soul Talk, the popular Me, Myself and Lies Bible study, and her soon to be released, God Is Just Not Fair.
As a speaker, author and accomplished singer-songwriter she travels internationally, offering fresh, sensible, Biblical advice to audiences who, like her, are determined to pursue healthy and fulfilling lives in spite of their circumstances. She has shared her practical and inspiring messages to arena-sized audiences across the country, and media outlets including Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, Life Today, The Learning Channel and The Billy Graham Television Special.
Jennifer is an avid listener of audio books, a C.S. Lewis junkie, and has a weakness for dark chocolate and robust coffee. She and her Dr. Phil live in Springfield, Missouri, and have two sons Connor and Clayton and a lovely daughter-in-law, Caroline. When she is not traveling, Jennifer enjoys nature walks, and riding a bicycle built for two.
❤️The topic: Heaven! ❤️This 7-session book is written for a GROUP study! It brings up some great topics and you get to know people from your church better by doing it together. I did it over the summer with a group of ladies that met every other Friday. I definitely recommend it for groups. ❤️ I loved the videos! Wow! When you buy this book, you get a code to free access to Jennifer Rothchild’s weekly lecture videos. She is speaking on a platform to a live audience. She is an EXCELLENT speaker. There are 7 videos. Each video is about 30 minutes long and they correlate well with the weekly devotions. There is also a playlist, leader resources, and the answers to the blanks but I didn’t get into all that ❤️ I love that she identifies the differences between Heaven and the New Earth. ❤️ It is full of Biblical truth ❤️ Through all the fear and unknowns associated with eternity, she always points us to Jesus
What I liked
👍You don’t need an extra notebook or a bunch of study books; the book itself is more like a workbook format with extra spaces for notes. She occasionally asks you to look up the definition of a word but that can be done easily on your phone. 👍 You can tell she really cares about her readers. She is relatable and cute. She tries not to let the topics of Heaven and Hell and death get too heavy. Yes, we talk about death in there. Also blindness (Jennifer Rothschild is blind), suicide, and miscarriage. She doesn’t want you to quit the book! So she tries to keep it light and positive. 👍 My favorite part of the book is a story of what it might feel like to die: You are drifting off to sleep and you hear a slight crackling of a radio, God’s voice comes over the intercom and He says “…Wakey Wakey” 😂😂😂
What was Meh 🫤 Does not work well for those in a time crunch with their devotions. This study takes about 6 days a week, with a solid 30 minutes for each day. Be prepared to flip those Bible pages! You can be in Genesis, Revelation, Isaiah, Matthew, Psalms, and Hebrews all in ONE day of this study! As much as I love flipping through my Bible, it got time-consuming really fast. So I switched to the Blueletterbible app on my phone to make the transitions quicker. 🫤 There are a lot of empty spaces to write in so be prepared to write! While I love writing, some of the questions felt repetitive: “read the verse and re-write it here” or “Summarize the verse here” “Write the main points of the verse.” She often answers her own questions in the next paragraph so I was confused about whether or not she really expected people to write out their answers…since the answer is already there. 🫤 A lot of your questions on heaven will be answered with a: “We really don’t know.” So don’t expect this book to actually answer a lot of your questions because it’s true, we really don’t know all the answers just yet. I didn’t really learn any new information on Heaven. Just new ideas of what it could be like.
And say Whaat
👀You may find out, like I did, that the other ladies in your group study have some strange views on Heaven. One person thinks the animals have spirits and will be resurrected along with the humans and is looking forward to seeing her cat again in the new earth. Another had a vision that her dead dog was in Heaven. Another told a story about how she was in a car wreck and actually died and went to Heaven and then came back to life. Another doesn’t think she will like the New Earth because there will be no beaches. Another thinks our memories will be wiped out so that we can’t remember anything bad that happened in the past. So, be prepared for some strange topics to come up. And if you’re the leader of your group, good luck!
This was a bible study that I did with my church. It was my Tuesday women's class and I met some women that I will eternally be grateful to have met. This was probably not the best study for someone who has thought of ending their life. It was a good book, centered around after death. Just a rough study. I did complete it, and it was amazing. I just needed to do this at a different time of my life.
I did enjoy Jennifer and what she had to say. I would recommend this study to others.
