Sparrow Hoodia is a fifteen year old survivalist living off-the-grid. She's an anomaly in a society that lives their lives fully immersed in a virtual reality world.
Naive to the outside world, like her closed-circuit flying robot companion, Sparrow must conquer her fears and leave the safety of her home to search for her mom who has been missing for two weeks.
What she finds will take her places beyond her wildest dreams…bending the nature of reality itself.
Sparrow and The Stream is a fast-paced, heart-felt technothriller for fans of Blake Crouch, Hugh Howey, and the Fallout franchise.
Every FC book is better than the last, and this one is his best yet. Really cool take on Sci-Fi and every one of the six parts built the world in cool ways. Great job, my friend. I’m glad it’s been released as a complete edition!
Exactly the book I needed after reading Ender's Game recently, but my reasoning would spoil both books.
Second of all, what a great novel. I read it in a couple sessions and my attention was grabbed throughout. Sparrow’s complexity and arc is really well developed and I was rooting for her from start to finish.
There are some heavy themes wrestled with in this book and the depth was great. Sometimes I feel like authors feel like they have to introduce as much gore as possible for dystopian futures to feel gritty and real but this one felt gritty without needing to introduce more mature content.
A firm 5 stars. Hope there is more to come from this author!
I think what FC did with Sparrow and The Stream was great – nowadays it can be tiresome to read books “bashing “technology, but this felt more like a warning than lecture – which in today’s landscape felt like a nice change of pace. it’s plot INVOLVES technology, but in no way is ABOUT technology, that’s not even close to the heart of the book. Well done, would recommend!
I read this in a day because I simply couldn’t put it down. The author builds a captivating world that feels too close for comfort. This book left me wanting more and wondering about each of the characters in the best way possible. An incredibly fun read!
This was a fun read! At the time of reading I was traveling in TN so the landscape was even more vivid. The story was easy to get lost in and there were times when I could not put it down because of uncertainty of what was to come. Loved the ending! Would recommend!
A quick, fun sci-fi read! I loved witnessing Sparrows growth throughout the novel, and how it all ties together in the end with the help of her friends. Definitely recommend!!
I'm giving away 1,000 free copies of this book until September 1. I'm proud of this book. It's a fast-paced, heart-felt technothriller for fans of Blake Crouch, Hugh Howey, and the Fallout franchise.
That dedication solidified the 5 star rating for me. Such a good read that kept me on my toes the whole time! The characters were so easy to root for and the world F.C. Shultz created was so immersive I felt invested immediately. Would definitely recommend!
I really enjoyed this book! The beautifully descriptive details transport you into this world. I was so captivated and didn’t want to put it down. It has very creative twists and lovable characters. Loved the themes of bravery and selflessness with reconciliation at the heart. Would definitely recommend!
Another great female heroine(s) enters the YA reader world! Themes of family, perseverance and thinking on our relationship with technology kept the pages turning.
Practically speaking, I appreciate the 10-12 page chapters.
This was such a great read! I always look for three things in a novel: a solid twist that makes me gasp out loud, complex characters with shifting moral compasses, and finishing it in the best feel-good mood. Schultz delivers all that and more. I highly recommend this book!!
