I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Forever Player by R.C Stephens is the final book in the Player series. It delivered a sizzling hockey romance between a commitment phobe heroine and the playboy hockey hero who cannot stop thinking about her. Secrets, fears, and surprises abound, leading to drama, angst, and the eventual happily ever after.
In Forever Player, Stephens examined the complex nature of love, forgiveness, letting go of past hurts and embracing change. This instalment focuses on Brett Noble, whom we met in the previous book, Antiplayer. It was clear from then that something was going on with him. In Forever Player, his life experienced a major change when the woman who rocked his world several months ago reappeared with news that changed the trajectory of his life.
Brett and Willow had a passionate one-night stand. One where they shared snippets of their troubled past. That night, they discovered that neither of them were looking for love nor did they have a burning desire to settle down. Brett, however, could not forget Willow. Due to crazy circumstances, the two didn't get the chance to reconnect. Then Brett learns he is a dad.
I loved how Brett stepped up to the plate on learning of his fatherhood. He never questioned the authenticity of Willow's claim. He was all in from the get-go. His caring and thoughtful nature went beyond that of his little girl. The way he jumped in to care for Willow as well had me swooning. His connection with his daughter created even more swoon-worthy moments.
Now, while I understood Willow's fears, I didn't like the way she ran hot and cold with Brett. He went out of his way so many times to prove to her how serious he was about wanting more than being a co-parent. The man went above and beyond and still couldn't trust his feelings. One minute she is all in, then she sees something on social media relating to his past, and she shuts down. Her family didn't help the situation either. Her fears got the better of her and the walls went higher. Eventually, those walls started falling, block by block. Soon, a more positive side to her started to slowly reveal itself, and what a sight to behold.
Second chance for the Player Willow and Brett connected over similar family dysfunction and one night of passion that neither can forget. A miscommunication leaves Willow alone when she finds out she’s pregnant. When they meet next, over a year later, things change radically for them both. He may have been a “Player” in the past but all that has changed. I loved Brett’s dedication and devotion. He’s caring, loving, considerate and persistent. Once he re-finds his woman, and with her the bonus of a child, he was fully committed (🥰 swoon). He had a lot of hard work ahead of him though, to crush Willow’s heavy duty walls. Willow is a beautiful character. Sweet, resilient and a great mother, but with her family history and trust issues, her walls were strong enough for nuclear fallout. A sweet and emotional love story, full of fun banter, some amazing siblings and a supportive (if teasing) hockey ‘family’. A slow-burn, second chance full of heart, forgiveness and learning how to trust. The characters are relatable and their development and growth throughout the story is believable and engaging. I loved catching up with the characters from previous books in the series. I highly recommend reading the whole series but each one can be easily read as a stand-alone. I’m sad to see the end of the Player series but on the other hand I’m excited to see what Ms Stephens has in store for us next.
This is Book # 6 in the series. Each book can be read as a stand alone. I like to read each book so I have the backstory of all the characters, as they are all interconnected.
Brett Noble plays NHL Hockey for the NY Rangers. He met Willow about a year and a half ago through friends. They had a great night and a fantastic one night stand.
Brett tried to call/text Willow but never heard back. Then he went to Las Vegas and lost his phone. Now he doesn't have her # any more.
Brett is given 2 weeks off and he goes with Willow back to her small town / farm. Once Brett finds Willow again he said he would never leave her or Maylee again. He stays true to his word and keeps both of them in his sights.
Willow loved being with Brett in NYC. She thought they would make a fantastic couple. However, after texting him / calling him she never heard back. Maylee is what Willow names her daughter. She escapes NYC and heads back home to her small town in Tennessee, to go back to the family farm. She thought her family would be there to help her with her baby and she's been nothing but alone. Willow is more standoffish about Brett being around and she doesn't seem to want to open up to him.
I didn't like how unhelpful the family was. They couldn't pitch in and help? The mom was all about fun and having a good time, but, you should have been helping with the new grandbaby. I didn't understand if they were friends with the same group of friends, why not ask one of the friends for the #'s? Or say hey i need to contact Willow/Brett can you get me her/his #? I thought that was some serious miss communication.
I did receive a free ARC Book Copy. I am freely leaving an honest review.
I was not prepared for the swoon that is Brett Noble in this book!
Forever Player is the 6th book in the Player series by R.C. Stephens and can be enjoyed as a stand alone but I personally always suggest reading in order since the series does interconnect and other characters/storylines pop up as part of the book.
4.5 ⭐
This book was such a sweet and fun read- where professional hockey player and playboy Brett Noble not only comes face to face with the woman he hasn't stopped thinking about, but gets the surprise of a lifetime when he realizes that she has had his baby. Willow Heaton didn't mean to end up in this situation- she isn't usually a one-night kind of girl but she doesn't do forever either, but giving her daughter the opportunity to have her father involved had her seek out Brett despite the risks. When learning that his distance was all due to a horrible series of events and miscommunication, Willow is unsure how to proceed with Brett stepping in and becoming super dad.
The chemistry between Brett and Willow is electric but things between them move at a bit of a slower pace. Their night together they had bonded over troubled childhoods with incomplete/toxic family dynamics and how those experiences caused them both to doubt love and made them not want a family. That same connection though was what had Brett thinking that maybe he was wrong and that just maybe he had a real shot at forever love with Willow. Willow's insecurities and mistrust of relationships though made it so Brett had a lot of work cut out for him. He simply rises to the occasion with his sexy capable daddy vibes and thoughtfulness when it came to caring for and pampering Willow. Willow definitely ran a bit hot and cold when it came to Brett and his open honesty about wanting more than to just be co-parents and at times her demeanor toward him was frustrating because of all the ways Brett went about to prove that he was all in but she just couldn't seem to accept his truth.
Brett had swoon-daddy vibes throughout this story- despite his shock at finding out he had a daughter he jumped in with both feet and somehow was able to say and do all the right things. His instant connection with Maylee was beyond adorable and I loved how his actions helped him gain the trust of each of the Heaton brothers when it came to his intentions with both Maylee and Willow.
I loved that there was no big third act break up for these two- I think that they both had dealt with so much to get to where they were that I was so glad R.C. took this route and it didn't discredit the new trust foundation that they had built.
Overall this book was just all the good vibes that I needed and could have wanted in finding a HEA for this forever player and I can't wait for R.C.'s all new series to come!
This was a surprise pregnancy trope with a bit of a twist. After a one-night stand, Willow falls pregnant only when she tries to let Brett know she gets a not-very-nice response, which has her fleeing and doing everything on her own. It's all been one big miscommunication. Brett lost his phone and had no clue about what was happening until his daughter was five months old, and Willow turned up to one of his hockey matches and dropped the bomb.
I have to say I loved Brett in this book. It would be so easy to have made a judgement on him based on the text messages Willow received and then his past reputation that showed him jumping from woman to woman, but from the very second he found out about what had happened and that he had a daughter, he stepped up to the plate and did what he had to do. He'd secretly been obsessing over Willow since their one night of passion, and so he wanted to do things right. I know that people say you shouldn't praise people for doing the norm, and Brett doting on his daughter is the norm, but he cared and loved her so hard that it was hard not to find it swoony. It was hard watching him battle Willow's stubborn nature and try to prove his worth to her, especially when her family was interfering, but he persevered and showed how much he had matured in the last 15 months since he first met Willow and that he could be somebody she could depend on.
Willow's early attitude and behaviour towards Brett were a little bit toxic, if I'm honest, and I hated how she acted, as it was pretty hurtful to witness, but it comes from a place of trauma, from watching the destructive relationship her parents had and feeling like love doesn't exist. She allowed her fears to get inside her head, and her family didn't help, and that made her build her walls up so high, but gradually we get to see them crumble, and as she begins to let more people in than just her family and see that love, happiness, and positive relationships do exist, she allows herself to believe and try, and that was a beautiful moment.
There was swooning, there were giggles, there was angst, and there was an amazing couple who had let their past affect their future for too long until one mad night changed their lives for the better. It's a super sweet read, and I loved every minute of it. The side characters are brilliant for the most part, even Lev with his whole negative Nellie vibe, but Bonnie and Willow's mom can get in the bin for all I care.
R.C. Stephens brings to a close her Player series with FOREVER PLAYER, book #6. A second chance, he falls first, surprise baby hockey romance which brings on all the emotions. This was such a wonderful, sweet, emotional, and fun read, which kept me up until the wee hours of the morning.
Eighteen months have passed since Willow Heaton and Brett Noble shared a single passion-filled night together. When Willow discovered she was pregnant she contacted Brett, only to be met with rejection. She thought they had a connection, but she was wrong, so she returned home to the family farm. Now the time has come for her to face Brett and give him a chance to be in his daughter's life. Brett, a professional hockey player, has never forgotten the night he shared with Willow, but due to circumstances he was unable to contact her. Seeing her suddenly appear during a hockey game brings out the caveman in him. What will he do when he learns the truth?
Willow is such a sweetheart, being a single mum to Maylee hasn't been easy but she's managed. She's a person who has built walls around herself and doesn't trust easily, her parents' toxic relationship taught her that. Brett too had a rough childhood, which also has him shielding his heart, but when it came to Willow and Maylee nothing and no one else matters. Willow and Brett had a wonderful chemistry and emotions between them ran strong, yet both needed to make changes and allow their walls to fall. They were perfect together. I love that Brett was determined to do anything and everything for his girls, but would it be enough to gain Willow's trust and heart? He was the perfect baby daddy, his moment with his daughter were simply heart melting.
FOREVER PLAYER is a story of forgiveness, acceptance, understanding, emotional growth, and love. R.C. Stephens gives her characters life, emotions that are raw, and a chance in life they never expect, her words beautifully portraying everything they experienced. I loved catching up with the couples from the previous books, together they all formed a loving found family.
R.C. Stephens definitely knows how to write an addictive hockey romance. Not a book to be missed.
If you have never read a book by RC Stephens you need to….some authors put you through it to get to the HEA….RC is not one of those authors…don’t get me wrong because she will put you through it….you wait for the shoe to drop & it slaps you in the face….but you don’t have to wait long though to get to the solution…. This book was no different….she hit you with it right out of the gate but the drama is over quick….or so you think….Willow & Brett had some serious issues throughout…I think they had to though….life isn’t always perfect even in books
Willow & Brett came from broken homes…. Willows childhood was pretty toxic….parents that fought all the time….making each other miserable but stayed together for the children…she learned that isn’t always the healthy decision Brett came from a loving mother but an alcoholic father that bounced in & out of his life Both knew they wanted to do better for their child but can they let childhood trauma go & be a loving family….Both relied on themselves & didn’t ask or like asking for help….Brett had his mother’s love & support & also loving siblings….he is the oldest so he felt like it was his responsibility to fill in where needed On the flip side Willow is also the oldest with 4 younger brothers….she tried to do right by them & them her but it wasn’t all sunshine & rainbows….all but one had built a strong wall around their hearts…would Brett be able to tear Willows down
I tried not to have a favorite in this series…& I don’t know that I really did…I loved all 5 books…each a little bit different but it is a series so there are some similarities too….maybe that’s why I’m having a hard time deciding….I went into this book thinking Brett & Willow would be my least favorite but they rank right up there with the others…even Willows brother Jacob tugged at my heart a little Oh & we get a glimpse of each player/couple from the series….we get to see little pieces of how their lives have turned out along the way…I will always love that Yes this book is part of an interconnected series….Yes it can be read as a standalone but why would you want to

Forever Player" by R.C. Stephens is a heartfelt and emotionally charged romance novel that explores the complexities of love, second chances, and the power of forgiveness. The story follows a professional hockey player Brett Noble whose world is turned upside down when a familiar face reappears in his life, bringing with her a revelation that changes everything.
Brett's journey begins with a chance encounter that reignites feelings he thought were long buried. As he grapples with the unexpected resurgence of emotions, he confronts the realization that his priorities may need to shift. R.C. Stephens skillfully navigates the character's internal struggles, capturing the raw intensity of his desire to make things right and be there for the woman he never stopped caring about.
The dynamics between the characters are richly developed, with each one grappling with their own insecurities and past traumas. Willow, in particular, is portrayed with depth and nuance, her guardedness and vulnerability adding layers to the narrative. As the story unfolds, readers are drawn into a poignant exploration of trust, forgiveness, and the healing power of love.
The writing is evocative and immersive, drawing readers into the world of professional sports and the complexities of personal relationships. The author expertly balances moments of tension and heartache with tender moments of intimacy and connection, creating a story that is both emotionally resonant and satisfying.
At its core, "Forever Player" is a story about redemption and the transformative power of love. Through its compelling characters and engaging narrative, it reminds us that sometimes the greatest victories are found not on the ice, but in the depths of the heart. Fans of contemporary romance will find much to love in this captivating tale of second chances and happily ever afters.
Forever Player is a sweet, fun, second chance story that features Brett Noble and Willow Heaton, the woman he met previously plus their surprise baby. The two spent a passionate night together after connecting with daddy issues as well as they both were not looking for any kind of a commitment or children. Until Willow, Brett’s main focus was being the best defensive hockey player he could, but after meeting her he was unable to forget her.
Ghosted by Willow, Brett was shocked to see her at one of his games fifteen months later. Furthermore, he lost his cool when he saw her with another man… who turned out to be her brother. Yet the biggest surprise of all was when Willow told him that he was her baby daddy. The father of their five-month-old daughter, Maylee. Of course, the videos of the whole thing end up on social media. On further discussion they both realize that the lack of contact regarding Maylee birth was due to Brett not only losing his phone but Willow getting a new number when she replaced hers. Miscommunication at its best!!
Brett decides that he will return to Sugar Meadow with Willow for the two weeks that he is given off to get things in order. He wants to get to know his daughter but also tries to convince that there could be more between them than just sharing a baby. The only problem is that Willow is familiar with Brett’s “playboy” lifestyle and has doubts that he will change. Yet, Brett turns out to be such a hands-on guy with Marylee even going so far as to sleep on the floor of her nursery! It really is so much more than Willow could have ever expected. I loved how all in that Brett was and would get frustrated with Willow and her reluctance to give him a chance for more.
With Brett’s time off coming to an end he asks Willow to join him back in NYC at his home. Willow reluctantly agrees to go with plans for it to be temporary until she is able to get on her own feet. But will she finally let her walls down and realize they are meant to be together?
Forever Player is another fantastic read from R.C.Stephens and a perfect edition to this series. Brett is a pro Hockey player who has a reputation as being a bit if a ladies man,he certainly puts his charms to use when he meets Willow in a bar. They have one unforgettable and passionate night together,a night that will change both of their lives forever....Because Willow becomes pregnant but unfortunately she can't get in touch with Brett to let him know. Willow isn't deterred easily and doesn't give up until finally she is able to tell Brett that he is a father to a beautiful daughter. This is such a swoon worthy emotional story as we read about Brett's journey to get to know his daughter and adjust to being a parent...Plus there is his growing feelings for Willow. Willow is guarded though especially when Brett wants more from her,she finds it hard to trust him. Brett has to make alot of changes to be able to earn Willows trust and to win her back. Their chemistry is still there and very strong and they build on that foundation...Willow is determined to do what is best for her and her daughter,is Brett what is best for them? I loved these two together and they are a perfect match despite that they both have issues from their pasts, which is one thing they have in common. This is a wonderful romance that is written perfectly by R.C.Stephens she always writes enthralling stories that are full of angst and emotion...But they always lead to a HEA that will leave you sighing with relief and bliss. I really enjoyed reading this book it fed my Hockey romance addiction. Amazing. 5 Stars.

Brett His devotion is bigger than everything before
Fantastic Emotional Finale
“You’re my endless love, baby.” She caresses my neck with her other hand. “You’re my endless love too.”
Brett and Willow's journey had me fangirling very hard over a fictional character. The last installment always has its person, but this one is such a fantastic way to bring a series to an end. Willow and Brett both have their issues with relationships and commitment, caused by their childhoods and homelifes. Their supposed one night stand failed everything they thought they stood for and for more than one reason. They bring each other to feel things they never felt before. And bring out the best of them. Brett was from page one on the perfect man. Without a doubt. He was patient, caring and loving. He gave Willow all that she wanted. Help, support and the little space to find out what she wanted and that she wanted it. And of course that he is the best guy out there. Willow made a lot of sacrifices for her baby. But it slowly changed her too. In a very good way. But her trust issues were hard to overcome. But with persistence Brett was able to break through her walls. And seeing it fall was so touching. With the addition of the supporting friends, Brett's family and her brother Jacob it came as it should be. To a perfect end and a sweet and deserving happy end. With the outlook for a new series, I can only say: Bring it on, I am so here for it. Can't wait.
I kinda hated this. Like I thought for sure it sounded like something I would like, but I couldn't get into this author's style of writing. Also, I absolutely hated the FMC. She was so dumb and annoying.
It picks up after the one night stand already happened and we get bits and pieces of their night together through out. Did I miss a prequel or something that was a short story of their night together? Also, the communication between them. I can see how the messages to him never got received but the messages to her? How long was it before she got a new phone?? He said he went weeks without his. So she got that message from someone else, got her phone broke, but eventually got a new one like the MC did. The MC admitted to trying to reach out to her multiple times, her new phone would've got the messages (unless she also got a new number which I don't remember if that was said) So she would've heard from him.
I get she had trust issues but her holding his past against him was ridiculous when he literally gave her NO reason to not trust him. The shit with Bonnie at the end completely came out of left field and was not explained at all. It was like the author was just trying to throw some shit together.
I hated their interactions. I really really did. The smut was kinda good though, so that's a plus. I did roll my eye like a million times for everything else though.
Sigh.

I recently had the pleasure of diving into Forever Player, and I must say it was a captivating read. The story follows the journey of the protagonist, a charismatic and confident player who finds himself entangled in a web of emotions and relationships.
One of the standout aspects of this book is the author's ability to craft relatable characters. The main character's transformation from a carefree player to someone grappling with the complexities of love and commitment is both believable and endearing. The supporting cast is equally well-developed, adding depth and nuance to the narrative.
The writing style is engaging, with a pace that flows smoothly and keeps the reader invested in the story. The dialogue is natural and authentic, making it easy to become immersed in the world Stephens has created.
While Forever Player is a compelling read, there were a few moments where the plot felt a bit predictable. Some of the twists and turns, although enjoyable, didn't entirely surprise me. Additionally, I would have appreciated a bit more character development in certain areas to make the story feel more fully fleshed out.
Overall, Forever Player is a great choice for fans of romance and contemporary fiction. Stephens' writing is engaging, and the story is both entertaining and thought-provoking. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a lighthearted yet emotionally resonant read.
There was nothing wrong with this book other than pretty much nothing happened. No angst. Exhaustive details of day to day life. How many times do I need to read about them changing a diaper? There were side characters that could have been used to draw out some emotion or…something but it all just stayed so flat.
The H was basically perfect. He had a history of being a player before he meets and has a ONS with h. As soon as he looks at her, he’s done with all other women. There is some miscommunication due to lost phones and they don’t see each other for 15 months in which time he is celibate. Once they reconnected he did everything right. Was overly understanding of the h’s relationship fears, was the perfect supportive partner, the perfect dad. Perfect perfect perfect. I bet he doesn’t even fart.
The h was annoying in how repetitive she was about being scared to be in a relationship, fall in love, etc. Over and over and over until probably 3/4 of the book. I didn’t really understand what the H saw in her. She spent most of their time together either being a prickly bitch toward him or avoiding him.
There was a blip of OW drama that was not serious at all and I don’t even know why the author bothered to throw it in there as it didn’t even get anyone’s hackles raised.
It wasn’t a horrible book. It’s well written, I just found it about as interesting as dry toast. But I finished it so what the hell do I know?

𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 is the 5th book in the Player Series by R.C. Stephens, featuring an entertaining surprise baby/ second chance romance for Brett and Willow. They had an unforgettable night together that ended with a life-altering souvenir that Willow has been taking care of on her own. Now that Brett knows the truth, he has to convince her that they could build something real together, but Willow has reasons for the walls she has built around her heart. Will she find a way past the fear and give love a shot?
I loved these characters! The emotion behind their behavior felt authentic, and it made them both relatable. The way Brett jumped in with the baby made me swoon! Cuteness overload!!🥰 The slow burn of the romance made sense, given Willow’s reluctance on relationships and the spice was in balance with the sweet. There were moments when I may have yelled at Willow on Brett’s behalf, as if that would help.🫣😅 However, this was such a fun read with all the banter from the teammates, friends, and Brett’s family. I am such a sucker for a well-written found family vibe! I can’t wait to see who is up next!
I received a free ARC, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶
OMG I love Brett! If you've read the players series, you met Brett Noble, the ultimate f%$kboy, I loved how he turned his life around after his dad died. He realized that his life was lonely. All his friends and family on the NHL team were getting married and having families and they were so happy. When WIllow, a one-night stand that ghosted him more than a year ago, comes back and tells him she had his baby he is devastated that he missed the last fifteen months of WIllow's life and his baby's life.
He has been pining for Willow since their night together and he is ready to be a daddy. Willow is shocked that Brett drops everything to be the daddy that Maylee needs. After airing out their misunderstanding that kept them apart, Brett follows Willow home to her hometown to take care of both of them and you see the sweetest man ever! What a great father he made and Willow can't believe her eyes. Their story is so inspiring. A single mom ready to make it on her own and a baby daddy who is ready to step up and be what his family needs.
I loved this story and it's so wonderful to see Brett get his HEA. Willow was perfect for him and Maylee is the twinkle in his eye. This was an uplifting story and gives single mother's hope that they can really have their own HEA.
I received an advanced copy from BookFunnel for my honest opinion.
Forever Player is a cute story, it is emotional, sweet, and funny at times. Brett is a professional hockey player, who is also a player on and off the ice. He has been known to be a ladies man. After a one night stand, about 18 months ago he has not been able to get her out of his head.
Willow is a single mother, who just wants to find her daughters father and let him know about her. She is able to track him down with the help of her friends, who are married to a few of his teammates. When she shows up at a game and he sees her again for the first time in over a year, he is ... well, everything changes after that night.
This is a fast paced read with many facets and characters that make the story enjoyable. Brett is all in with raising his daughter from the moment he hears that he is a father. Willow, while damaged, she was a little annoying at times with how stand offish she is and how many walls she puts up to protect herself from her childhood. These two belong together, they have a strong connection from the beginning and their chemistry is sizzling. I enjoyed that banter between Brett, her brothers, his family, and his teammates and I cannot wait to see what this series has in store for us next.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review from R.C. Stephens and Greys Promotions.
I received an ARC from Grey's Promotions. All opinions are my own.
I LOVE BRETT NOBLE. The intense, brooding players are always the ones who make the best dads! In previous books in this series, we know something happened between Willow and Brett, and it's evident that he's hung up on her. In this book, we find out why - Willow was pregnant! When she tried to tell Brett, he wouldn't answer the phone and would only text. And he was super rude!
So this book picks up with Willow about the ambush Brett at a game, bringing along her former hockey player brother. When Brett sees her with another man, not knowing who he is, he sees red, flying off the handle and causing a huge scene in the middle of the hockey game. And once he finds out Willow had been pregnant? All bets are off!
Brett goes home with Willow to her small, gossipy town to not only meet his daughter, but to also get Willow back into his life. Permanently. He never forgot about her, always wanted her. He just needs to prove he's not longer a player.
I loved watching Brett woo Willow. Proving each and every day that he was ready to settle down and be a family with Willow and their baby. I love me some player jocks who meet that special person and can't help but fall head over heels. Brett Noble is in my Book Boyfriend Hall of Fame.
I loved this series and love R. C. Stephen's books. They're a great balance of sport, love, friends and family. This was last in series and it was swoon worthy. Willow has finally decided to face Brett after 1 and half years to give him the news. Only when Brett acts like a jealous boyfriend, she is confused by his reactions. Then when she gives him the news she is flabbergasted by the whole event. Willow and her siblings don't believe in love or relationship as they all have trust issues due to their own father. Brett can relate as his father also abandoned him. He never thought he would feel the things he felt when he heard about his baby girl. W. O. W Brett really stepped up and he literally blew me away. I loved how he never even doubted Willow and they way he loved and took care of them both. Although Willow has double layer brick wall around her heart. Brett has his work cut out and only has 2 weeks to get Willow to see their inferno chemistry. Read and see how Brett chips away at Willow's defense. I did think Willow was very harsh at times but Brett made up for it all with his sweetness. Their journey isn't easy as his past wasn't so stellar. Love the group of friends forever supporting them. Loved seeing previous couples living in bliss. This whole series is worth reading. Give it a read. Excited about Next series.
I loved Brett Noble as Maddie’s protective older brother in the previous book, but wow is he swoon worthy as a besotted daddy!
A crazy mix-up prevented Willow from telling Brett about the pregnancy and then the news is shared in an even crazier and super public fashion. Brett immediately steps up when he learns he is a father and he’s completely devoted to taking care of Willow and loving his little girl.
The first half of the story takes place in Sugar Meadow, TN Willow’s extremely small hometown. Her family has a lot of dysfunction, especially her parents. Her brothers care for her and are protective in their own way, but not very demonstrative. Brett makes such an effort for Willow, to show her brothers he is a standup guy and to win Willow’s trust. Willow is understandably hesitant and distrustful, but a bit too reactive.
When they return to NYC, the story gets more involved as Willow and Brett interact with her friends and his teammates, and his family too. I loved the last half of the book, once Willow drops her walls and allows herself to give a relationship with Brett a chance.

Brett Noble is the kind of book boyfriend we can all fall in love with, which makes it nearly impossible to find another that will be any better. Yes he starts as this playboy because he’s a famous hockey player, but once he meets and has this connection with Willow something changes in him making him want to do better. The night they share together changes so much for both of their futures and when Willow reaches out she thinks he pushes her away causing her to be bitter towards him. Months later life throws these two together again and so much happens with truths coming to light, adjustments being made, and so much more. Their pasts haunt them and have made them into the people they are today, but can Brett win Willow over by showing her how much he wants her in his life? Brett puts in the work time and time again trying to show Willow he has changed and this slowly thaws her heart, but will they be able to fully put their trust in each other or will it all crumble around them? This was such a great story full of passion, emotion, and fun banter. It will have you falling in love with Brett watching the way he dotes on those he loves while thawing the ice wall Willow has built herself and loving every second of it.
Willow met Brett Noble in a bar in NYC. He was with a group of his teammates from the Rangers. They spent the night together and she ended up pregnant. She tried to contact him but got some not so nice messages back telling her to basically get lost. Five months later she decides to go to one of his games and try to talk to him and let him know about his daughter Maylee but it doesn't go quite the way she hoped and instead was blasted all over social media.
Brett is a defensive player with the Rangers both a player on and off the ice. When he met Willow he thought she was different and wanted to get to know her better. But through some crazy circumstances he didn't have her number. Imagine his shock when she shows up at his game and tells him he has a daughter. He's given two weeks off to get his personal life in order and decides to go back to her farm in Sugar Meadow to meet and be with his daughter.
He wants more but Willow has her walls up. He has fallen in love with his daughter and wants to make them a family. Will those walls come down?
Willow and Brett, wow they absolutely had to go through the wringer to get their happily ever after. Willow is such an independent woman who is determined to be the best mother for her child and she will do anything to make that happen. When Brett finds out he has a child his world gets tuned upside down. Brett is so amazing with his little girl it is so beautiful to witness. Watching Willow and Brett navigate the idea of coparenting and their new normal was very interesting. But they will do anything for their daughter throw into the mix that the sexual tension and their attraction that is just simmering under the surface. Some denial of feelings, that is only gonna last so long before the dam breaks. They have lots of issues to deal with and over come on both sides, so watching them navigate all these issues, but come out on the other side stronger together in this new little family unit is a beautiful thing. Then of course you get all the antics from his family and his teammates. Along with her friends and her family just to make things interesting but I’m so glad they figured it out because they were meant to be together. I absolutely love their story.
Forever Player is the final book in the Player series by R.C. Stephens and it follows Brett and Willow. Brett is Maddie’s older brother and Kaleb’s best friend (book 4) and he has been hung up on Willow ever since their incredible one night together. Willow tried reaching out to Brett again after ghosting him when she learned she was pregnant but his response wasn’t what she was hoping for and she cut ties for good and left the city. When she finally confronts Brett, their reunion didn’t go as planned and she learned something that changed her viewpoint on everything. Despite having his world turned upside in an instant, Brett steps up from the get go and he knows without a doubt that he wants them to work as a family but Willow’s walls are high and it takes a lot to break them down.
I’m sad this series is over because it was so fun to follow along with these teammates and a couple of them from way back in the Westfall U series but I’m excited for the next hockey series and the main male character will be none other than Willow’s younger brother Finn.

📌 You’ll dig this if you like » Accidental pregnancy » Second chances » Possessive heroes » Reformed players » Hockey era 🏒
📌 What stood out » Brett is all-in from the start, and he works hard to prove himself worthy of Willow’s trust.
» Brett’s and Willow’s childhood experiences interact with their relationship and attachment styles in a believable way.
📌 Moments » I loved that Willow put on her big-girl pants to confront Brett at one of his games. The level-up for me was how Brett responded to seeing her there with another man, no less! I mean, Jacob is her brother, but Brett didn’t know that 😏 That whole scene had me hooked! 🎣
» Brett overhears Willow sleep-talking and it gives him new confidence.
→ It lost star-value because even though I liked the concept, some of the language didn't work for me and I didn't connect with the characters.
🚫Contains discussions of parental alcoholism, abandonment, and death. Please check warnings.

I was really looking forward to Brett's book, because I liked him when he was a secondary character in sister Maddie and best bud's Kaleb's story. Brett was great about embracing his unbeknownst-to-him baby girl. He is all in, maybe a bit too enthusiastically at times, but there's no mistaking he is excited to be a dad. And, he wants her momma, Willow, as well. Willow, though, is glad he wants to be a co-parent, but not interested in anything else. Yes, she's had no positive role models in the romance, or even loving department. Her family is messy, her brother's disallusioned about relationships and she's not interested in one either. So while she loves the support from Brett, she's gun shy about everything else. And that's where she stayed through most of the book, and her excuses and attitude really started to annoy me. It was the same song and dance with her, even though the attraction between them was off the charts. But I could not get excited about her. The story was great, baby Maylee had Brett wrapped around his heart and finger and he was swoony. I just wished she made a positive impression on me as well.
Willow met Brett one night while out with her friends. She knew what she was getting into, both of them didn’t want anything but one night of fun.
Then she ends up with a whole lot of fun 9months later. Trying to get ahold of Brett didn’t go well when he basically told her to take a hike. But Willow didn’t want her daughter growing up without knowing her father. So, she goes to his game (as he is a hockey player) and let's just say she was not expecting this second meeting.
Soon Brett is spending time with his daughter and looks like he is infatuated with more than his little girl…
Willow is an amazing mother and I have to say Brett totally stepped up when he found out he was a dad. He did everything in his power to prove to Willow that he wanted more from her than just being the baby’s mother. And it was tough as Willow was adamant, she didn’t want a relationship or get married. But with Brett pulling out all the stops, how could she say No. Loved the story, loved the characters and the single parent/second chance trope was definitely a good read 😊
Brett + Willow have an instant connection that runs even deeper when they release they have the same dysfunctional family . Their chemistry leads them to a smokin hot one night stand but when the time comes Willow is alone when she finds out she is pregnant because of some miscommunication . One year later fate has realigned them when Willow shows up to Brett’s hockey game .. but with another man . Brett will be anything Willow needs but has to much time passed for them to have their second chance ?
Second chance + slow burn hockey + accidentally pregnancy = an overall great time ! Brett is the total package and is willing to do anything, be anything, if it means he can be in Willow’s + their child’s life . Willow has some SERIOUS walls because of her family issues, which i fully understand, but it just seemed to drag on . This was a serious slow burn so be prepared but other than that it was a 4 star read .
This is the fifth and final book on the Forever Player series and it can be read as a complete stand alone .
