LEE WIMMER is an author living in Michigan with his wife, two stepchildren, and six grandchildren, where he often chases his golf shots deep into the woods. He writes fiction that often revolves around his favorite scripture, Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good of those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” Knowing the “all things” can get messy and difficult before the breakthrough, a theme shown throughout his novels.
No Forgetting Providence release date is September 3, 2024.
THE MARKS BOY'S ROCK—Book One—Lee's Young Adult series, is coming mid-year 2025
Really enjoyed this book. However, I felt a bit lost in the beginning because I had not read the first book, so I stopped and read book 1. I was so glad I did, as I greatly enjoyed both books, but it made this one so much more enjoyable. The characters were easy to fall in love with, and the story kept me reading until 2 am, because I just couldn't put it down! I read an advanced copy on netgalley for my honest review. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Not my standard fare (somehow I overlooked the Christian and Romance tags focusing on Mystery).
I wanted to submit a quick review about an early occurrence in this novel. A large man attempts to sexually assault a 5"2 120 lb woman, and the woman is able to not only remain unassaulted, she also manages to beat the man up.
This immediately clued me to the fact that a man wrote this book, as it almost seemed to imply a small woman could easily overwhelm a much larger man. It would be nice if this was the case, but due to the large number of successful assaults by men against women, this is a dangerous and unrealistic assumption.
Unfortunately, men are stronger than women, and women must (as a matter of self protection) live our lives in a defensive manner. This immediately turned me off to this book. Women must always be aware, watching where we walk, who we are with, who is watching us, who is around us if we consume alcohol, etc. as a part of our daily lives. Regardless of self-defense training, it is almost impossible for someone to be the victor in an unequal attack.
It is not an easy thing to overcome these immediate and typically omnipresent challenges, if it is even doable. Indicating otherwise does a disservice to the women who would have loved to have overpowered their attackers, but had little hope of doing so without having the situation somehow equalized (by carrying a weapon, etc).
This is standard knowledge, even in men"s boxing you wouldn't put a flyweight in with a heavyweight boxer and expect the flyweight boxer to have a fair chance of overpowering the heavyweight boxer.
It was at this point I set this book down and moved on to other books.
However, this book might be a great choice for you, so read the description and if it appeals to you, pick up a copy.
No Forgetting Providence deals with child trafficking from neighbouring Mexico, Puerto Rico and even from as far as the Middle East. Underage children barely into their teens are smuggled, some of them kidnapped, to serve as child labour at various hotels and resorts besides pandering to the special tastes of privileged guests. The book starts with an escape from an attempt to sink the ship of DR and their narrow escape and how he saves 30 children from child slavery. They get kidnapped again and DR with the help of his friends and relatives sets out to free them and unravel the powerful forces behind this act. The theme is interesting but the plot is quite elementary as depicted by the author with DR having a narrow escape from death and this gets attributed to the beliefs of his close associates in the existence of God. On the whole, a book meanders slowly, not what would expect from a crime thriller and there are a lot of loose ends which are left unattended.
Thank you Hightower Publication for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own
Although this book can be read as a standalone, reading the earlier story greatly enhances the experience. DR, the protagonist, is now home recovering from injuries (suffered in the first book), but his enemies (in high places) still seek to eliminate him as he represents an obstacle to their trafficking enterprise. Avoiding the authorities when he’s framed for a crime, and reconciliation with his would-be fiancé slow him down, but don’t keep him from pursuing justice. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review.
When I chose this book I wasn't aware that it is part of a series, and not the first one. So for the first 20-30 % I had constantly the feeling of missing out on important things that had happened before and it was difficult to understand who is who. But when things got clearer and the action got more and more suspenseful I really enjoyed the story although some things were over the top with an unbelievable account of deaths.
No Forgetting Providence by Lee Wimmer is book two in the Obsessed Intentions series. It is a Christian thriller that is well written. I did not read the first book, and I think I really would have liked this book better if I had. It was a good thriller but it was hard to get into reading this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
