The book is easily read and does present many principles that should help young people be able to set goals and have steps they can take to insure success. The points were written like bullet points with several stories to back up each point and countless quotes. I felt some of the positive mental attitude was a bit overdone and that the promised results would not always follow just because the individual was thinking in a positive frame. I would recommend reading the book with the young person to help balance the assertions.

The Success Principles for Teens review
For my third deep book of the year, I decided to read The Success Principles for Teens: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be by Jack Canfield. Coming up to 250 pages long, this book demonstrates ways that a teenager can walk a path to success.
The author of the book, Jack Canfield, was born on August 19, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia, and graduated from the Institute of Linsly Military in the year 1962. Four years after his graduation, Canfield attended and then graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. in Chinese History. He earned his M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and then in 1981, Canfield was awarded an honorary Ph.D. by the University of Santa Monica. Jack found himself working at a handful of jobs. He first began his career as a high school teacher in Chicago. Then he started working at Iowa's Clinton Job Corps Center, then Chicago's W. Clement, and then Jessie V. Stone Foundation. One of Jack’s first written books was actually co-written with Harold C. Wells. 100 Ways to Improve Self-Concept in the Classroom: A Handbook for Teachers and Parents was the name of the book and was published in 1976. Jack Canfield directed the New England Institution for Personal and Organizational Development, a residential Gestalt center, and was awarded one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of America or TOYA by the United States Jaycees. In addition to his laundry list of previous accomplishments, he is also the founder and CEO of The Canfield Training Group in Santa Barbara, California, as well as the creator of The Foundation for Self-Esteem in Culver City. He has a Guinness World Record for simultaneously having seven novels on the New York Times best-seller list. With his seemingly never-ending list of accomplishments, Canfield co-wrote The Success Principles for Teens: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be in 2008.
Jack Canfield has done an outstanding job of compiling the 20 fundamental concepts for you. His book, The Success Principles Principles for Teens: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be, is like a road map or a formula that you can trust. We all have various goals, and each one of our goals may be one-of-a-kind. Fortunately, there is a successful formula that works for everyone. Whatever is going on in your life right now, if you follow the rules the book speaks of, you will go precisely where you want to go. The rules that are demonstrated are to remember two things before you begin , and to keep two things in mind. To begin with, the issues you are currently encountering will not have as big of an impact on your future as you believe - but how you respond to them will. Second, no one can apply these concepts on your behalf. It is all up to you.
The author's acclaimed self-help book, The Success Principles for Teens, finds itself putting its information as fundamental concepts. In the book, there are 20 of these concepts that the author, Jack Canfield, uses. Some of these concepts include; do what you should do, self-discipline and self-motivation, taking 100% responsibility for your life and results, should be approached as a huge experiment, being solution-oriented, the gold mine is goal mind; if you have an idea you should act on it, your vision, team, adapt and change, sign your name, have a success routine, self-leadership, your main resources, and control yourself. Jack Canfield expands on these areas and more throughout the book in a clear concise way for the reader to learn from.
After reading a self-help book, The Success Principles for Teens, by a New York Times number one best-selling author, Jack Canfield, I found myself questioning a lot of my current methods for success. In the book, the author laid out many different paths to success that were quite different from mine. What made me start questioning my methods of success was hearing Jack Canfield compare and contrast many different methods. I’m wanting to test out and possibly experiment with these methods ,but I don’t want to waste my time altering my current path. I don’t want to get into the habit of altering my plan too often because I won’t be focused on trying to execute it to my fullest potential. That being said, if I am concentrated on one plan and it’s not going the way I hoped I’d alter it.
In conclusion The Success Principles for Teens: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be written by Jack Canfield is a great book to help today's adolescence pave a successful future for themselves.

Decent advice, but feels dated due to the individuals used as examples, and most of the situations and examples were aimed at stereotypical teens, mostly sports and pop culture, and kids who were mainly interested in material possessions and status. It was difficult for my teen to see a common ground. But the overall ideas presented were decent. Well organized, easy to follow themes.

As an actual teenage for whom this book was made for (aka not the reviews made by parents reading this for their teen)… it’s not great. Some points are good but are stated in dated terms or just harsh. The other points are just obvious. That’s all.

Review for Success Principles for Teens

This is a nonfiction self help book called “Success principles for teens: How to get to who you want to be from who you are now” by Jack Canfield and Kent Healy. Teens want to succeed but they don’t know how so this book is to help those teens that want to succeed. I liked how the authors used examples from successful people and there were things that I have to learn about while there are some things that I already know too. Even though I knew that every great story have sacrifice or hard work on it, these examples helped me a lot and also I understood that everyone sees successful from a different perspectives. Some people see success as happy life, but some others think success is not a good thing because it makes you greedy. I don’t know the answer but I have to have point of view about this to do know if it’s right or wrong. I think success might be different to everybody depending on what kind of person you are. You can just live a normal life or you can make changes and do or have more than others do. I think strength and weakness and what I like and what I don’t like is different things. So the strength of this book is that in every end of the chapter, there’s a checklist so you can see what you have to do. I did not see any weakness but I had a thing that I didn’t like which was the book talks about the same things too much even after we got it. So the principles were taking 100% responsibility for your life which says never make excuse or complain because it was all in your hand to decide what to do, believing that is possible, deciding what you want, be clear why you’re here (purpose of living), seeing the best to be the best, setting goals, going out of your comfort zone (challenging yourself), act as if you already have what you want, going for what you want, facing your fears, asking help from people and asking it over and over again no matter what answer you get, rejecting rejection, keeping score of you goal or how are you improving or getting close to your goal and starting it now and going for your goal. I think this book was a great help for me and I am looking forward to read this kind of book again.

8/10 recommended!

Have your kids planted themselves firmly in a rut? Are they reeling from the teenage dilemmas of middle school, high school, or even battling the decision of what they want to do for the rest of their lives? Success Principles covers all of these issues and more. The best part of this book is the positive spin it allows teens to choose which is often contradictory to the emotions of this time in one's life! All the subjects we try to discuss as parents written by someone teens might listen to. I even found this book to be inspiring across the ages. Recommended when you need a jolt of faith, hope, and encouragement. A must read!

Wah, wah.

This book was very easy to comprehend and was for an audience of people my age. Teens.
I thought that the stories and past success stories were very relatable and that it showed you that you are not alone on this one.
I loved that it took you step-by-step to show you that, it can be easy to change your thoughts and the frequency that you are sending out, but it would take time.
And time is what we have a lot of.
Great read.

So, I hate self-help books. Because they never really work, in my experience.
But, this one is actually decent. I mean, it still hasn't helped me, but only because I'm too lazy to do the stuff it recommends to me. But if I had a stronger will or work ethic, this would totally transform my life. Theoritically.
But yeah, this makes me feel good inside. :)

Maybe a little overly cheery at times, but overall a good pep talk with sound advice. I love that one of the first things they talk about is that YOU are 100% responsible for your own success and happiness. It also talks about persistence and finding a mentor.

Accessible for young adults. Felt more like a slideshow than a book, though. Could work with the attention-challenged. Someone who enjoys reading would probably get more out of the adult version, which flows more.

The Success Principles for Teens was a helpful, quick read. Although it did not provide any new insights for me, I do think it helped me to change the way I viewed some problems (ex: facing fears, making excuses) so that those issues were easier to confront. The exercises and 'to-do lists' throughout the chapters were definitely doable and not too time-consuming. At times, the book was a bit repetitive, but it did cover each topic very thoroughly.

Not a life-changer, but it's certainly motivational. There are some great quotes included in each chapter.
