The fan-favorite pint-sized unicorn makes a wish to be big in this modern fairy tale from the Caldecott-Honor winning creator of Have You Ever Seen a Flower?.
Once upon a time, there was a teeny-weeny unicorn that wished to be big. But he never saw a shooting star, and a ladybug never landed on his arm. So when he comes across a dandelion poof, he decides to give his wish one last try. With a little help from a gust of lucky wind and a clever princess, the Teeny-Weeny Unicorn sets off on a quest to find something littler than he is.
Little does he know, he is in for a BIG surprise...as he becomes a BIG brother! With characters that will crack you up and illustrations to brighten any day, here is a perfect picture book to share at storytime, again and again.

I somehow felt this story was a lot shorter than the last. Perhaps because there was less text on each page. I still loved the illustrations, the story was cute. Adorable story over all.
Oh to be plagued with being small when you want to be big! The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn learns about the birth of unicorns in the process of his own quest of self discovery.
Themes: Big/Small, Birth, Unicorns Age range: Preschool-Early Elementary
I adored the Teeny-Weeny Unicorn. The pastel illustration and the story were top notch. Truly Caldecott worthy. Just received The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn's Great Big Wish. I'm in awe. I love it even more than the first book. I didn't think that would be possible for a sequel. Great Big Wish is phenomenal. Even more creative and beautiful. Looking forward to what Harris comes up with next.
Riffing on his theme from The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn (2024), Harris returns to his adorable protagonist’s search for something smaller than he. Even very young children may be able to guess what that might be, especially when his unicorn parents – appearing as a giant collection of legs – announce that they have some “Great big news!” Nevertheless, it’s entertaining to follow the little equine as he tries to wish to be BIG on stars, ladybugs, and lucky pennies before finally attracting the attention of a super-sized fairy princess who tells him she’ll grant his request if he can find something smaller than himself. The purple-horned, pink-coated unicorn comically sets off on his quest, finally returning with a small bud that opens to reveal an even teeny-weenier purple unicorn (answering the pressing question of where these sublime creatures come from). This home-away-home journey unfolds in a series of two-page spreads, most introducing a totally new setting and yet another character, its busy pace complementing the energetic and bright drawings. Harris’s large smudgy pastel illustrations quiver with Day-Glo colors; combined with the unicorn’s ridiculous encounters and the repeated "clip-clop, clip-clop", readers will be engaged and guessing throughout the story. I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn wishes for something but first needs to find something, anything, smaller than himself. I have loved all the Teeny-Weeny Unicorn books, but this is my favorite. It’s funny mythical creature quest wrapped up in a new sibling book. And the art! As always Harris’ books, the art is soft, sweet, and stunning. Also, it’s a way to answer that uncomfortable question of, “Where DO baby unicorns come from?”. A great book for unicorn lovers, anyone who feels small, is having a new sibling, or just loves a little magic.
In this story, the teeny-weeny unicorn's parents have big news to share, but teeny-weeny unicorn is too busy trying to make a wish to be big. The failed attempts are hilarious: misses seeing the shooting star, is too little to break the wish bone, and more. Teeny-weeny unicorn winds up meeting a fairy princess, a stork, a leprechaun, and a tree until finally it all leads to the parents' big news. Another delightful teeny-weeny unicorn story and a wonderful book to share when talking about new babies!
Caldecott Honor illustrator Shawn Harris and the Teeny-Weeny Unicorn are back in this new picture book. In this story, the Teeny-Weeny unicorn dreams to be bigger but struggles to make his wish until a sneeze in front of seeded dandelion brings forth a special fairy. The fairy gives the Teeny-Weeny a task and he sets off to accomplish it. I like how Haris leaves the reader with a preview of what may be his next story. Harris conveys the story in soft impressionistic illustrations.
Another cute outing for the Teeny-weeny unicorn. This one ends on a cliff-hanger. There is a ghost in the castle. I wonder what that will be about next time.
The unicorn wishes to be big, meets a fairy and has to go on a quest to find something smaller than him. Everything in the world is so big when you're the unicorn. His parents are huge. He needs a growth spurt.
The artwork is done in chalk. It's pretty and colorful.
Kids who love fantasy and unicorns will love this.
In this clever twist on the new-arrival theme, a minuscule unicorn makes a wish that requires fulfilling a tall task to find a creature smaller than himself. A zany quest ensues, and his wish is granted—with a big surprise ending. Whimsical illustrations with bright, bold colors provide plenty of eye candy for kids to enjoy during story time or at bedtime.
The teeny-weeny unicorn returns and wants to be bigger. Finally, he finds a way to make his wish and sets out on a quest to find something smaller than him. When he finally finds it, he returns home and discovers something special that is even smaller and part of his family.
I love how the illustration looks like it was drawn in crayons. Makes children relate to the artwork. Really cute story about a unicorn becoming a bog brother.
Hallelujah! A sequel that matches the charm of the first. Here our teeny einhorn wishes to be big. He asks a fairy and a stork and a tree and gets an unexpected (and adorable) result.
The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn is back and this time the story's better. Teeny-Weeny really wants to be big but he hasn't had the opportunity to wish for it. But one day, while making a wish when blowing a dandelion, he makes a fairy sneeze. The fairy tells him that she will grant his wish if he can find an item smaller than he is. Teeny-Weeny rushes off to see what he can find, completely forgetting that his parents were standing right there, wanting to speak with him.
As he rushes around trying to find an object small than himself, he encounters a stork carrying a human baby that's not smaller than Teeny-Weeny. Then he comes across a leprechaun farmer who tries sizing the unicorn up to an apple, lemon and carrot. Nothing works. Teeny-Weeny is bigger than all of them. The unicorn came upon a dragon who couldn't see him and then encountered a tree. The tree offered a flower bud which was indeed small than Teeny-Weeny. However, as he ran back to the fairy with it the bud began to open and get bigger and bigger. He cried to the fairy saying the bud had been much smaller but the fairy had a message for him. He had gotten his wish; out of the bud emerged a teenier-weenier baby unicorn. His parents had wanted to tell him that he was going to be a BIG brother!
An interesting take on new siblings. The stork doesn't really fit, though.
Super cute—especially good for kids becoming big brothers/sister. Teeny-weeny unicorn goes on a search from something teeny-weenier than himself in order to get his wish. End with a cliffhanger.
