I'm a huge fan of Hack/Slash and Tim Seeley, and an even bigger fan of the Evil Dead trilogy, so I obviously was excited for this. While it isn't bad, it never really seems to get Ash right, and he just doesn't gel with the new version of Cassie, who is all messed up from how the real Hack/Slash series ended. Nothing more than a curiosity for fans of both series.
I'm not at all the intended audience for this, seeing as I've only read 1 volume of Army of Darkness previously, and none of Hack/Slash. Still, I had the opportunity to read it, and so I did. I liked the first half better than the second half. I thought the volume did well with the campy adventures that the two get into as they chase down pages of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis. However, I felt like the second half was a bit too abrupt, and not really accessible to someone who hasn't read Hack/Slash. I understood what was going on, but I didn't really understand the emotional resonance of it, to be honest. However, the volume did make me curious to eventually read some more Hack/Slash, and I did enjoy it, so I'll count it as a win.
There's not much to say about this crossover other than it's probably everything you'd expect. If you like Army of Darkness, there's plenty of Deadites and Ash. If you like Hack/Slash, there's plenty of Cassie here (and she's so sexy!) And if you like both? Then you'll love this one!
Art's great as always, and the story's over the top as you'd expect from Evil Dead, but also just serious enough for Hack/Slash. As said earlier, pretty much just what you'd expect, and in this case that's a good thing.
Two of my all time favorites in one story! Of course I enjoyed it, while I found the Freddy vs Jason Vs Ash to be my favorite AOD crossovers this comes very close.
It was a fun story and fits both characters well. The crossovers with Hack/Slash are hit or miss with me, I love the main series but some of the people she meets while they fit they also don't. I can't explain it better then that.
I actually bought the individual comics for this. I had missed my chance originally to get the last issue when it came out and did not get the final one until a little while back. I did go back and read the first five issues again before the last one.
What can I say? Of course I loved it! I am a big fan of Hack/Slash and also Army of Darkness so this was must read for me. It was a lot of fun seeing Cassie and Ash together on a case. The only disappointment was I wanted more than this limited crossover.
Hack/Slash is always problematic with its over-sexualization and such, but I’d like to think it’s at least somewhat self-aware... Anyway, while I’ve never been much of a fan of the AoD comics, this mashup featuring Cassie and my beloved Ashley, was not unentertaining. YMMV.
I was so excited to see Cassie Hack and Ash Williams team up and kick ass together. It's such a great fit, that the story flows effortlessly. A fun read.
Interesting Evil Dead/Cassie Hack mashup where Ash and Cassie search for stolen pages of the Book of the Dead. My fav Pooch even makes an appearance. Action and blood packed graphic novel goodness. Highly recommended.
Up to the point where Cass has sex with Ash I would’ve given this 4 stars. It was like a buddy comedy until then and afterwards just another story about Ash being the hero with Cass, after taking a giant dump on the life she’d made for herself after Vlads death, being a side note.

Army of Darkness v.s Hack/Slash is a very fun story that is plotted very well into its mini-series.
In the story, Ash arrives at the home of Hack and her girlfriend hot on thrail of the Necronomicon.
After a brief tussle, they discover that the babysitter came into contact with a page and has become a Deadite.
Cassie and Ash are a perfect fit and couple up to track down the book and its missing pages. They end up breaking into a prison, in a firefight against a team of trained assassins in a Wild West themed town, and saving a group of children from a sacrifice to save the reanimation process of an old Salem witch who was burned at the stake.
All this happens before they time travel while following the path of the Necronomicon into the past where they discover the start of the cult they have been facing. After a fight, they follow the book into the much more recent past where Cassie sees her former partner on the night of his death.
Ash shows up just in time to keep her from interfering with the timeline while still recovering the book in the process. They then go back to the present where Cassie reunites with her girlfriend and gets a night out while Uncle Ash takes care of the little one.
At the end, he leaves to find some place to keep the book safe.
AoD vs. H/S was a fun read that was plotted and paced very well feeling to perfectly fit the series run. The two main characters work incredibly well together and get to run around throwing out almost as many quips as butt woopings to crazy monsters and minions alike.
Some of the art here is fantastic. The early splashes showing the cast of characters for each was great and cover to cover we got really strong art, dark and gorey while fun at the same time.
Having read this while only having read about a third or less of the Hack/Slash run makes me also believe that this rating could change as it really does reflect back on the ending of the series. So, once I have read through the series, I may have to check this one out again and see how my thoughts differ on it.
For fans of either series or even things like BtVS, I would highly advise giving this one a read.
I was so excited to read this book. Army of Darkness and Hack/Slash are among my favorite comic series. This book did not have a long confusing reason for the crossover. It made sense; Ash needs help locating sold pages from the book of the dead also known as the Necronomicon. Cassie agrees to help him kill some deadities that are linked to the black lamp society. Of course, there is a twist, Cassie wants to use the book to go back in time to save her friend Vlad.
I liked the story and art work. Having Cassie and Ash in the same book was a nerd's dream come true. I liked how Ash helped Cassie relax and she kicked some major deadite behind. However, I did not give it five stars because I do not agree with how Cassie slept with Ash. Throughout the Hack/Slash series Cassie did not have sex to get her way. She was confused about her sexuality and her relationship with Georgia in the series. So, I do not believe that she would jeopardize her relationship with Georgia now that they are living together and raising a child. Other than this little quibble I really enjoyed the book.
This is a crossover comic between the worlds of Hack/Slash and Army of Darkness. It takes place after the end of the main Hack/Slash series and at some indeterminate point in the comic book chronology of Ash's adventures. The main plot is that someone has been distributing pages from the Necronomicon Ex Mortis and Cassie and Ash have to round them up and try to defeat the book. I have to say, I got this as part of a bundle and went into it expecting to hate it. I'm not fond of what I've read from Hack/Slash and although I liked the Evil Dead movies, the comics have been pretty mixed so far, averaging not so great. But this definitely stands out from the pack of Army of Darkness books I've read so far. The plot moves nicely and is sensible. It gives some real emotional depth to characters, at points, which I have to say that I wasn't really expecting. And it's genuinely funny at bits, mostly when Ash is narrating which it would have been nice if Ash had narrated more of the time. I didn't love this book, but I liked it.
I'll admit that it's been a while since I watched the Evil Dead movies, but I loved Hack/Slash and wanted more out of it. This miniseries provided a nice excuse to do an interesting crossover, and give a glimpse into the future of some of the original characters from Hack/Slash. I didn't exactly love it, as the one dimensional portrayal of Ash grew a bit tiresome, but the story did bring a more satisfying bit of closure to the Hack series than the series' original ending. For that, I have to thank Seely. Plus, the gore factor was pretty good.
Good fun. I had no previous knowledge of Hack/Slash, but after reading this I want to check it out. A huge fan of The Evil Dead and Ash though, and this was a lot of fun.
