HockeyVerse #1

Finding the Forward, Part One

Rate this book
Everyone wants a fairytale. But what if you're the alpha no one believes in?

I’ve spent my life dreaming of soulmates and storybook endings—of finding a pack, an omega, a place to belong. But that kind of ending? It was never meant for someone like me.

Pastel sweaters. Romance novels. Crying at weddings. No one sees the alpha inside me—not even me.

I’ve been raising my siblings since I was a teen, walking on eggshells around controlling parents who ruled with fear. They never let me grow into my instincts. And now? I’m terrified I’ll become just like them.

Then I meet Grif—a sexy, oversized forward who steals my airplane seat and completely upends my life. He’s a beta… but everything in me screams he’s mine. My omega. My match.

And Grif doesn’t come alone.

There’s Jonas—tattooed, sharp-tongued, and alpha to the bone. Dean—sweet, gentle, and a giant goalie. And AJ—the calculating businessman who sees right through me.

They don’t want a stereotype.
They want me.

But learning to become the alpha I need to be means facing everything that I was taught to fear.
And stepping into my power might mean burning everything down.

Finding the Forward, Part One is the first half of a swoony, high-heat, why-choose, fated mates, omegaverse hockey romance duet featuring a soft-hearted alpha heroine, grumpy alphas, giant omega hockey players, found family, and explosive chemistry on and off the ice. M/M/M/M/F with knotty complications and a cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for more.

Verity’s everything they need… if she doesn’t break them first.

If you love fated mates, possessive alphas, and steamy omegaverse romance… this pack is waiting for you.

Tropes: hockey romance, why choose MMMMF omegaverse, female alpha, two male omegas, hidden male omega, fated mates.
Rating: 2.75✨

Okay, I’m a little disappointed with this book. I don’t know why, but I had high expectations, and well, unfortunately they weren’t met.
I cringed so many times. I was like “What the heck am I reading??” and not in a good way. I don’t even like the nicknames they give each others like for example: hot stuff, boo-boo and tiger.
There are also things that are constantly repeated, like we get you love romance novels, no need to keep saying it every other page!
Still, I’m going to read the second one hoping it gets better because I’m a little curious to see how this end.

There was a lot left to be desired but somehow I still liked it so rounding up the 3 stars.

The writing style was not for me. It was a very simple, spoon feeding, telling not showing kind. The dialog was very choppy and on the nose, rushing the characters’ relationships. Right away the FMC gave her “bad mom” a speech standing up for herself without any nuance. And within ten minutes of the FMC and one of the MMCs meeting, they’re talking like they’ve known each other forever as a way to jump start their relationship as well as info dumping for the reader. There was no relationship building between the characters to get to where they were. On top of that, I did not agree with the reason the two alpha’s were against the FMC. It seemed to be thrown in there just to add a little bit of tension somehow in this book.

While the relationship developments were rushed, this book was very slow. 600 pages of mostly pointless story. Things were repeated over and over again. On top of all that, the spicy scenes -especially the dirty talk- did not work for me at all. Also, everyone had a nickname for everyone, and maybe two of them were actually cute while the rest were really cringy. Like “Gumdrop” and “Jellybean” unironically.

There were also way too many characters to keep track of. There’s the main five characters, then then hockey team, plus the FMC’s sister’s team, plus the FMC’s six parents and sixteen (I can’t remember the actual amount but it’s in the double digits) siblings, plus the FMC’s work colleagues, one of the FMC’s sister’s pack, some of the MMCs’ family, and some people from their past popping up too. At one point I honestly had no idea who people were I was just vibing along.

To wrap it all up, it ended so abruptly. The author even left a note at the end basically saying how she realized how long to book was getting so she split it into two parts. It feels like she wrote one whole book, randomly stopped halfway through and called it part one. There is a “cliffhanger“ but mainly because she stopped mid scene, mid conversation. It felt like when you reach the character limit in a text box and it stops you mid word.

Surprisingly, besides all of that, I did enjoy the book. Once I got over the fast burn relationships and ignored the cringy dialog, I was really invested in their relationships. I didn’t care so much for everything else going on but it was a fun omegaverse and I will be finishing this story in part two.

• Meet cute
• MMMMF
• 2 male omegas
• 1 female alpha
• Hockey Romance
• Unique spins

Absolutely PERFECT beginning to this adorable duet! As someone who has read many Omegaverse books, I can say I have NEVER read an Omegaverse like this one! It was so special and unique. Everything we needed in the Omegaverse genre!

I read very few omegaverses with female alphas! And every time I don't know what to expect. And Verity's character blew my mind. She was the perfect mix of sweet yet dominant. I loved watching her find her place in this delicious pack! Her relationship with each of the guys was perfect. I loved Jonas giving her tips on being an alpha, while Dean was playful and flirty, Grif's instant connection with her, and AJ's history with her. Jenn did it all. And so well! Even though she wasn't the omega, which is generally the center of the pack, she was adored by each of these guys!

Two male omegas shocked me and I was so curious. I'm completely here for it. But I'd never read an omegaverse with 2 male omegas. And Jenn did such an incredible job of balancing this pack even with two omegas and a female alpha!

I'm so excited for part 2... the cliffhanger this book ends on isn't awful. But it does have me EAGER for the next part of this duet!

Hockey Romance with a pack aspect. Good pacing and the characters are unique. Verity is looking to belong and she may have found her people after all. It’s a big book but it doesn’t feel like one

I was kind of flabbergasted by the thought processes in this book??? I mean... so the common theme with Jonas is that Verity isn't alpha enough for Grif and Dean but then he never does anything to help her kind of find herself. He just insults her and humiliates her in front of the pack and storms away to sulk. How is that helping? You see she's struggling with a lot of trauma and you just bitch at her and do nothing else?

And then AJs whole cow debacle was actually insane to me. He already knew that she was a college student with no money and that she had basically been harassed into seclusion but apparently that wasn't enough to maybe pause and think about all the reasons that she wouldn't have been able to replace some fucking livestock. Then he reasoned it with her not calling to let them know about the cows and goats and bunnies... Hello???? Do you have a fucking phone? If someone had ruined my sister's life I would have hired a private detective to not only track down them but their entire bloodline.

It was just so irritating to me lol.

I really enjoyed the story. I haven’t really ever an Omegaverse book that had a pack dynamic like this one. I’m definitely ready to read the second part.

That being said, I had a hard time with the pet names. I felt like they were really… specific? I don’t know if that’s the right word. But like… pepperjack is a really odd pet name and there’s like.. no context. Overall I did really like the book. The pet names and some of the dirty talk were really my only “issues.”

I almost dnfed this book atleast 10 times. A lot of the dialogue was so cringe. Don’t even get me started on the nicknames: boo boo, pepper jack, jellybean, gumdrop - and these were just the nicknames the guys had for each other.

This was a tough read for me to get through. I’m not sure if I’ll read the second book.

I saw this on FB book recs group & immediately wanted to read it! Apparently it was on my tbr already lol. As the size was daunting, I actually haven't read it fully as I skipped through to check it out but I did spend my 4hrs 20min on this. This sporting world is fascinating! The relationships are sweet, the guys are already together & I would've loved some flashbacks—they're adorable & I'm glad to see their quirks & fights too. The FMC is pretty lovely & heartaching—I adore a science gal. I do love that there are 2 male omegas! My only hang up will be that I like the omegas to be with everyone in the harem, but I'll take friendships (It's just the female is always with everyone, in most of books & also here, but omegas if male aren't. It's a writing choice afterall). I liked that AJ got jealous, felt more realistic. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when everyone else finds Grif's actual designation. I'm looking forward to the heats 😍.

Oh my dear lawd!!!

I was so very lucky to be picked as an ARC reader for part one of this series and I honestly couldn’t have been more honored, it felt like my own little cake pop. 😉

I normally have such a hard time with imagery in books, I kinda feel like Goldilocks. Some it’s TOO MUCH and others it’s not enough, but this book was absolute perfection. Jane described everything where I could picture it like it was in front of me.

The characters quickly became my best friends and made me wish so badly that I had a sister like Verity. You can feel the love the characters all share like it radiates from the book in such a wholesome way.

I don’t write reviews often and really only for books that I feel should get one. This book DESERVES one. Thank you Jane for this opportunity and for this masterpiece.

Also note, this does in a cliffhanger!

** Thank you so much to Jane Handler for the ARC **
It has been a while since I’ve read an Omegaverse, it has been far too long. I admit I was rusty at first, it took me a long time to remember the details but Omegaverse is always fun and this one comes with a hockey twist. This is the second hockey book review within the same week, I don’t know how and why but apparently I went through a hockey phase when requesting ARCs.

Warning: this book contains tiny cows in sweaters!

“Finding the Forward” is the first part of the Hockeyverse series and it starts with Verity, an alpha, getting into a plane to escape her deranged family who wants her to be their babysitter. On the plane she meets Grif, a beta, who allows her to sit next to him, even though his tradition as a hockey player is to have the seat empty. The attraction is immediate. Now pay attention because this is important. Will this be on the test? Yes! x) So Grif is married to Dean, who is in a relationship with Jonas. Grif is also attracted to AJ and while they haven’t started courting each other, AJ intends to do so. Grif and Dean have smut scenes and Dean also has some smut scenes with Jonas, but not between Grif and Jonas. AJ is solely working on his relationship with Grif. So in a way: Grif + AJ & Dean and Dean + Jonas. I am a crappy omegaverse teacher and I hope I got that right! This is important because their personalities are also very different and they complement each other quite nicely especially when Verity comes into the scene.

Let’s start with Dean, an omega. He is very caring and a little bit demanding, given the attention Grif provides to him. He is certainly the most sub among them and this is why his relationship with Jonas works. With Grif, he is able to have a more nurturing relationship like husband and husband. It gets very personal and we see that while he and Jonas care about each other the love he has for Grif is different. Grif, on the other hand, is not the same personality-wise as Jonas. Grif is very in control and does not subdue as Dean does with Jonas. He enjoys being in control with Dean but he would not allow himself to be so submissive with Jonas, but possibly with Verity.

Jonas is the head alpha and he is the most dom-like character. He likes to be in charge and make sure the rules are being followed. This is possibly why he and Grif are not exactly in love with each other - Grif is imposing and would not allow himself to be so subdued. However, he can also be kind and while not being able to give Dean the marriage he adores with Grif, he is the answer to Dean’s needs in the bedroom.
AJ is the newest to the pack and while he helps them with the legality of their things he is the one that causes more trouble when Verity comes into the scene. He is courting Grif and since Grif is getting to know Verity and her place in the pack, AJ gets very jealous. He is the one who takes the longest to accept Verity as one of them. He has a lot of unfinished business with Grif and their communication is sometimes non-existent as they can both be very stubborn and the rest of the pack gets involved to help with their relationship. Grif, Dean, and Jonas work amazingly together. They are not envious of each other and can still work and live together in harmony. Together they are stronger.

Verity comes into the scene a little later after the first encounter she has with Grif. She had a stroke and her leg was paralyzed so she walks with the help of a cane and sometimes feels pain. She is the one who has more issues with her past and her family. Grif helps her heal a little by introducing her to Dean first and then to Jonas. Dean accepts Verity right away and is actually anxious to meet her since he has smelled her on his husband for a while. When they first meet they hit it right off. Jonas is more careful, but while Verity is an inexperienced alpha, he sees her as a person who helps ensure everyone in the pack is happy. Jonas sees how Dean is becoming more in love with her and when Dean is happy, he is also happy. He gives her a chance to help the pack unite and become stronger.

While Verity tries her best to be their alpha, she still struggles with some things. Her leg, the fact that she is a professor and has to take care of her sibling who is also working for a team, and as she is underaged she needs to be a chaperone to a lot of things. Verity is clearly motherly and has a lot of responsibilities. She had to stand up for herself and be on her own for a while with an abusive family. Grif introduces her to a new chance in life. Where she will always have someone by her side to confront whoever is being mean to her or when she feels sad and needs to be comforted.  That does not mean that while she tries, she makes mistakes, she swings from being sometimes shy of herself and her actions to trying to be a good alpha and apply things that she has learned from the boys.

Verity acts like the pack glue since she tries to understand from each of the guys what their strength and their needs are. Grif she understands he enjoys being romantic with her and Dean; Dean is clearly needy and very positive, which can be good when she needs to relax and have some time off; Jonas is a tutor figure and while he can be harsh sometimes, Verity accepts everything he has to offer because she knows he means the best for them and last AJ. She understands that AJ needs time to adapt after their terrible first encounter and she goes slow at first to make sure she never crosses a line that will end with a no-return.

These nuances are all told through different 1st POV, which is great because the reader never misses anything from the characters. There are no misunderstandings between the characters or they leave the reader in the dark. We are all very aware of their feelings and how they behave with each other and that is especially relevant when creating a relationship with so many different personalities. We get their voices and their own personas in their chapters. Jane Handler created a huge thing out of these characters. She created a parallel reality and while the book size can be intimidating I read it in two days as most chapters are incredibly easy to read. The smut scenes are *chefs kiss, I love some m/m action and this one had plenty even though the main focus was Grif and Verity's role in the pack. I just want smut à la carte m/m - m/f - m/m/m/f - I’m not picky, people! Plus, that cliffhanger made me pre-order the following book almost instantly!

“Finding the forward” is the beginning of a pack journey into self-acceptance, it’s a journey to learning and finding that together through love and trust, they are stronger. Part two will be out in December.

I have such mixed feelings because I really liked the premise & potential of this book as well as the characters but the writing was just not it for me. I felt like I had whiplash at times with the way things went 0 to 1000.

My issue isn't with then getting steamy on the airplane it's the way they got steamy, without spoiling I'll just say that what they did was so out of left field and also insanely unrealistic with no prep and also when they had literally jut met???

Still I moved past that bc I was interested in the story and the fact that there was some unexpected disability representation with an MC made me really happy but I feel like I read so much and got so little. The writing kind of went in circles at times and the steam was not well balanced in terms of getting to know about the characters and actually developing relationships. Which really sucks bc at 622 pages I really thought we'd get so much more. I also felt like what they were saying and how the author so clearly wanted to present the characters at times didn't match with the actual actions she was writing.

I still liked certain parts of the book enough that it's staying in the 3 star range as anything lower means I disliked more than I liked, and I was able to complete the book in 1 day, but I am a tad disappointed overall. However I will be reading Book 2 as this one ends in a cliffhanger and I need to know what happens so hopefully things just go up from here. I think if I was in more of a mood for a high steam book of this length and my brain didn't overanalyze eveything this could have been a 4 or maybe even 5 star read.

This is a style for sure. If it works for you, you'll love this. If it doesn't, this would be a slog. I love the cozy, domesticity and slowly building pack. I love the detailed OV world and extended cast of characters. I liked all of these characters in different amounts, at different times. I loved the use of different designations and the normalcy of polyamory.

***Side note: I don't quite get the complaints about the nicknames. It's very clear that there is a story behind Gumdrop and Jellybean that we just haven't been told. Grif and Dean have known each other for decades. I'm sure these were created when they were young and they just stuck. Everyone knows someone with a dumb/silly nickname that they got as kids.

I have some issues with this one. A lot of it is the writing—it’s very underdeveloped. The dialogue flow is so strange to me. The characters would respond to each other in long paragraphs by tagging on things (“and also…” “also…”), in a way that just doesn’t sound like how people speak. It was very weird.

The characters were definitely underdeveloped, and at times their reactions and attraction to each other just wasn’t very believable. I really try not to compare omega books to Lola and the Millionaires (cause it’s my favorite), but I can’t help it with this one. Especially with the nicknames and the progression of the relationships. And this one is so lackluster in comparison.

Overall this felt like immature fanfiction writing. Especially during confrontations, like when Verity is being bullied and they stand up to her ex. And definitely during the sex scenes, which had dirty talk like an overdone, cheesy erotica. Which is hugely disappointing, cause there’s a lot of them and I like the kinks that are used, so I wanted to like them. They’re also pretty quick, rushed ones, as well.

There were times when things were rushed or certain words used really bothered me (“boobies”, “Cow Boy”). Sometimes I would roll my eyes and want to put the book down. And yet I would still pick it back up, because it was an easy read and kind of a fun, trashy book for when I was struggling to focus on anything else. I’m going to give the second book a try, if only because I’m curious what happens next.

Am I enjoying myself? Yes. Is it perfect? No. Is it far too long and could do with some more show vs tell? Yes.

But honestly the worst is being driven to DISTRACTION by all the fucking NICKNAMES

BOO-BOO is killing me softly each time

(I will read the next)

EDIT: wait nvm I won’t read the next because I’m just not invested in any of the characters enough 🤷🏻‍♀️

SECOND EDIT: okay here’s the problem - I am really invested in Grif and the hidden omega aspect of it all and maybe there’s a mystery with the FMC buttttt do I care enough to read the second? I dk. Developmental editing would have done this a world of good because the concept is great but then it meanders so much

I love a good hockey romance. This was just part One! I love how protective Grif seemed to be with Verity when she was on the phone and he overheard a male voice being just too loud for his liking towards Verity. Jane did a great job with this one. The characters were great. They were fun. The dynamic between them all was so good. It was for sure a page turner. I loved how each character had a their own relationship with Verity. They all came together and formed an amazing pack. I cannot believe the ending!! I cannot wait for book two!!

Thank you Jane!!

This was so good! I love hockey omegaverse stories and this was no exception!

There are several components of this OV that are different from most others, which is great! But it does mean I recommend reading through all the glossary and terms sections beforehand, otherwise you’ll likely be confused. I skip those in most OV, as they’re usually the same, but it’s worth it for this one.

I love the pack of characters in this book. Verity is great! I haven’t read much with female alphas, and I really enjoyed it. I love her relationship with her sister that she lives with. I did get a bit confused at times, between all of her parents and siblings.

I love Lucky, he seems like a great cat.

Grif, Dean, Jonas, and AJ are all interesting and lovable in their own ways. Dean’s love of bread speaks to my soul, lol. I love how Grif and Verity met and then how they found each other again.

Be warned, this is part 1 of a duet, so it ends on a cliffhanger and there is no HEA until part 2, so you’re left with a lot of unanswered questions. I will be eagerly awaiting the release of second book!

I was fortunate to be an ARC reader, and this story exceeded expectations! The omegaverse twist was unique and captivating. The combination of secrets, suspense, pack dynamics, hardships, and plot twists kept me engaged. Verity and her pack were memorable, while Jonas left a lasting impression on me. 🤭 Childhood trauma added depth to the narrative and characters. Releases tomorrow on KU, with a cliffhanger that left me eager for part two!

I love why choose, I love sports... but am new to Omegaverse. I can't tell you if this is on line with other OV worlds, but I did very much enjoy it. This was sweet and cozy and sspppiiccyyy. Jane appeared to have done her research on sports teams because I didn't find myself rolling my eyes about training or games or nutrition or anything else not being taken seriously. There were also moments of hardship plus some great lines about working it out and finding ourselves.

Loved this so much! I can't wait for the second one!
Loved all of the characters and the plot is quite interesting. The four guys in the pack have different relationships between them, and the addition of Verity makes them change towards her. I can't wait to see if Grif finally does something to his agent and to discover all the things going on for Verity and Grif especially.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last! I love omegaverse and this is a brilliant example of that world and I love that it’s also a sports romance too. I really enjoyed the world building involved and I loved the characters. It was great to see Verity starting to grow into the Alpha she was always meant to be and be supported by the guys who want her to be herself no matter what that looks like. I also laughed out loud at parts and the banter between everyone is great. I can’t wait to read part 2 after that cliffhanger!

Check CWs before reading

This was a tough one for me to rate/review, because whilst I enjoyed the story and I wanted to know what would happen to the characters, just something about it... was missing something? I think that's the best way for me to phrase it.

I absolutely love Handler's take on OV. She has created this rich world which is incredibly unique to me, and I just wanted to read more about it. You can see that she's spent a lot of time creating her characters, giving them incredibly fleshed out stories and making them *real*. That is the only way I can explain it.

I love her concepts of OV - with the extra designations and how they fit into the "hierarchy", as well as her unique take on how sports in this world work. At times, though, I found myself flicking back to the glossary as I did get a bit lost (and I'd like to think I'm well versed in OV novels/terminology).

The story being centred on a female Alpha who doesn't know how to Alpha is what had me hooked, and kept me reading. And then once we delve into Grif's story, I found myself needing to continue - I won't spoil it, but everything to do with him kept me turning pages, wanting answers and waiting for the other shoe to drop.

However, even though this is part one of a duet... I felt it was too long. There was too much going on, and I often felt myself taking breaks as at times it was information overload (again, sometimes needed for the specific world that Handler created), but also I feel there was a lot of "filler" content that may not have been needed. There was also a lot of telling, not showing - again, this could be due to the nature of the content - and sometimes the conflicts didn't feel very... conflicty (the whole thing between AJ and Verity had me scratching my head a bit, honestly). That paired with the fact that the main conflict/twist of the story takes practically the whole book to get to (and at times I felt there was zero foreshadowing) and it left me wanting more. What, I'm not sure, but more.

NOW, these are my opinions, and as always, take them with a grain of salt. Everyone's interpretations and enjoyment of books are their own.

BUT, don't get me wrong. I loved the combination of the men - Grif, Dean (my bread-obsessed favourite), Jonas and AJ were all beautifully unique, all served a role not only within the pack, but to help Verity in life, and turned what we know about OV on it's head a bit (Dean, a big burly omega as a hockey goalie? Yes freaking please). I loved Verity's little sister, and how Verity is Team Mom -- seriously, this concept melted me with those kids.

Am I still going to read part two to find out where everything goes? You bet, because that cliffhanger we left on - as well as other questions raised through the book - have me craving answers. (Let's not mention the craving of what I hope to be some fantastic group scenes down the track - a person can hope!)

Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.

Hockey forward Griff and PHD student/retired futbol player Verity find themselves thrown together on a plane hitting it off instantly but part ways when the plane lands. Then later they meet again by chance and come together.

This book is seriously unique. I love the hockey-verse the author creates with all the supporting characters. And this is a MMMF romance which comes together incredibly. I loved how each character has their moment to shine with Verity as well as each other. And the ending?! Cliff hanger…. Ahhhhhh!

Must read, I’m off to start Part two!

Crying-screaming-throwing up at the cliffhanger we were just left with.

Hands down one of my favorite reads of the year.

I love that this story showed the nuances and struggles it’s taking to form their pack - between the men and adding Verity to the mix.

Relationships take work and it’s shown in this book.

Verity. Sweet. Gentle. Verity. I’m obsessed that we got to see a softer alpha female. Even though Jonas is working with her to be more Alpha it hasn’t changed how kind she is.

She’s always putting those around her first and it made me want to shake her. She’s doing a lot of healing from her past but her insecurities come through in all of the little moments - something that makes her even more relatable and realistic IMO.

The MEN. AJ, Jonas, Dean and Grif.

The relationship between Grif and Dean is so sweet it almost gave me cavities. It really came off like they had been together for yearsssss.

Jonas. He is HOT. Major daddy vibes. He is probably the most levelheaded of all the guys. His balance between being strong and firm pack lead while also caring for his pack is unmatched.

I could’ve strangled AJ in the beginning of the book. Between his relationship with Grif and Verity he really needs to figure out how to COMMUNICATE. He does come around giving Verity a chance. I can’t wait to see more of them together in the next book.

Also shoutout to Lucky! That imaginary cat had me dying of laughter. I hope the jokes about him keep going in the next book.

The cliffhanger was brutal in the best way. Counting the days till the next book is released.

This book will draw readers in. I am so upset that I did not read this book sooner. This is a good one. A reverse harem with secrets and a lot of great people or wolves. We are dealing with wolves. In this world, there are omegas, alphas , betas, gammas and deltas. Packs are created by a group that wants to be together. Relationships between several people in the pack is accepted.

Verity Thorne was having a bad day when she met Griffin McGraff. She became an unexpected companion on a plane ride. They connected, connected. If you know what I mean. Unfortunately, they did not exchange anything more than names and became known as Airplane guy and girl to their friends. How cute is that? Flash forward four months and they finally run into each other again.

Griff and his soon to be pack members are on the New York Knights hockey team. They are finally all together and are petitioning to become a pack. There are a lot of interconnected relationships in this pack. One has not quite been solidified and could possibly cause problems. With all of that going on, Grif wants to date Verity. Their connection is undeniable. Now we have to see if she meshes well with the other pack members.

This book gets HOT and extra spicy. Verity has been forced to help at home until moving to New York for her sister Mercy. Verity is very involved with her work and has a problem grasping her inner alpha. Readers are in for a lot of surprises with this one. I cannot wait to get to part two of this wonderful story. Yes, there is a cliffhanger.

A book that combines hockey romance AND omegaverse!? Sign me the heck up! This was the perfect combo of sporty action and comfort, insta-love vibes. I also loved how the author built the sports in this world, including the addition of skate smash, which gives me a combo of hockey and roller derby vibes. Every character has so many interesting nuances that really made them feel special to me. The already established relationships are so dang sweet and adding our FMC to the mix is really binging out the best in all of them. PS- That cliff hanger has me BEGGING to get my hands on part two ASAP!

OK, I just have to rant for a moment. What in the gawd dang h$ll is with all the cliffhangers lately. It seems like all I have been getting of late is these cliffhangers that make me feel like I am hanging on for dear life. Thankfully, I just have to hang on till December when the 2nd book comes out. Thank you for listening to my rant. Now, back to my regularly scheduled review of Jane Handler's Finding the Forward,

I sat down to read Finding the Forward and my husband scared the shit out of me when he walked in the door from work (I had put my phone on silent, he knows I do that when I am reading so often he doesn't talk to me when I am knees deep in a good book) just as I was finishing this book. I just couldn't put it down, not that I really wanted to or needed to.

YOU'RE MENTAL HEALTH MATTER'S CHECK YOU'RE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!

I have to say that you need to read this to you TBR list. It is so good. It follows Verity, she's a sweet and gentle alpha who ends up running away from her emotionally abusive parents.

On the run, she has this adorable meet-cute with Grif on an airplane. They have a great time under a blanket in first class. Sadly, after they get off the plane, neither of them could find the other again, that is until they do!!

Grif is a hockey forward who failed to mention that he is married to his omega golie, Dean. Their relationship is perfect. Grif is a beta hiding as an omega. Why... I'm not going to tell.

Jonas is Dean's alpha, and all three guys play on the same hockey team and are in the process of forming their own pack away from Deans current pack with Grifs alpha AJ I do have to warn you that there is MM in this book that is just swoon worthy, and the hugging and kissing, yeah, I want more.

And now, the Verity and Grif thing, well, they have to be a thing, or this book wouldn't exist. Mercy is Verity younger sister, and Verity is her guardian. Mercy is 17, a spitfire who is on a roller derby team and shares the same rink as the guys. This is where Verity and Grif have yet another cute meeting.

Verity is also her sister's team mom, and she has to take awesome care of her girls and Grif and Dean. She will bake for them and date them, and she hopes that one day she can join their pack. And on top of all this, if that's not enough, she is a PhD. student breeding happy flowers. She also likes to bake,Jane has taken her time with this one. She has created characters that are so fully and well developed. I fell in love with each and every one of them one by one just as they fell for Verity.

My two favorites are:

Jonas: Head alpha calls Verity the little alpha, but he helps her come into her own and become the best alpha she can be for the guys. When she does make a mistake, Jonas is the one who will punish her, and I loved it, so daddy alpha of him.

AJ: he takes to Verity slowly, eventually loving her or at loving what her throat can do.

My favorite quote from this book is:

"Verity, I love you, but you need to stop setting yourself on fire to keep others warm."
