The woman who doesn't remember is the one he can't forget in Cynthia Eden's latest Shadow Agents: Guts and Glory book.
Fifteen years ago, Noelle Evers was kidnapped. Two days later, her abductor was dead, leaving her with no memory of what happened. Now an FBI profiler, she uses her past trauma to get inside the minds of killers. But she can't read her new partner. EOD agent Thomas Anthony is controlled. Dangerous. And hauntingly familiar.
Thomas has been covertly watching Noelle's back. He wanted to tell her the truth, but couldn't blow his cover. Their latest mission just revealed a link to her past. With desire ramping up between them - and a predator hunting Noelle - it's time for Thomas to step out of the shadows. Or lose his second chance to save the woman he loves.

”It’s not about being a victim. It’s about being a survivor. Survivors are the brave ones. The powerful ones.”
This was a good one. Not much of a romance but that didn’t bother me. I like the suspense books a lot. Heroine was vulnerable but strong in her own way. I like her. Hero was the usual protective alpha. I also liked him. I’m not reading this series in order. So far what I’ve read I’ve liked.
They met when she was 17 and he rescued her. 15 years has gone by, she forgot about him, he kept tabs on her during the 15 years to make sure she was safe.
I just love this series! All the books follow the same basic formula, but that doesn't really bother me because I happen to like that formula. If it ain't broken, why fix it? ;)
Suspense was good and I liked the main characters’s connection. As always after finishing this I needed time to sortout the whole plot in my head. And it wasn’t clear whether the killers died or not in the hospital. Overall a worthy read. Recommended.
3.5 RATING- As a lover of Cynthia Eden's contemporary titles, it's shocking to me this is the first book I've read in the Shadow Agents series. I think I've shied away from reading the series for a couple different reasons. Harlequinn just seems a bit old-fashioned to me. Perhaps it's the covers that give off the vintage feel. They just don't appeal to me and make me feel like the books won't be steamy or are just...old. I know that seems silly, but that's the way they make me feel. Also, I'm cheap. I've never seen one of these books on sale and they aren't lendable. Both of those things are turn-offs for me and probably delayed me trying out the series.
One note:I normally wouldn't think of starting a series with book eight. I like to read my series books in order. But I was suffering from a book funk, needed something immediate, and the amnesia aspect of the story was too hard to resist.
So how did I like it? I liked it. I didn't love it. I enjoyed the storyline a great deal. Amnesia? Serial killer? Trademark Eden hero? Yes! Yes! Yes!
“What do you want from me?” Noelle asked him and she held her breath as she waited for his response.
At his sides, Thomas’s hands balled into fists. “I’m a desperate man. I’ve been that way... too long.” His gaze held hers. “I want whatever you’ll give me.”
Cynthia Eden always writes a great hero and Thomas was no exception. He was a man devoted which is my favorite type of hero! Still, I kept thinking something was missing or that it dragged in a couple spots. It might be that there were just too many secrets. As soon as one thing was uncovered, another plot twist or question was introduced. It may have been the steam factor. I'm sure the steam factor was quite typical for a Harlequinn novel (and there were some sexy bits). Still, I'd consider the steam low for what I want from Cynthia Eden! I like my romantic suspense pretty hot and this was on the tamer side for me.
Overall, I'm glad I finally gave this series a shot. It is a bummer that the publisher doesn't discount these books often and my local library doesn't have them in ebook but I will eventually get around to reading them.
This is the first book I've read of this series and really enjoyed it.
The author does a great job of tying in a mystery from the past into the events of the present with a believable and intense love story underneath. It was good combination of suspense and romance.
This was a good audio book, and I was prepared to give 5 stars, until the end. I can't accept that EOD agents wouldn't be wearing bullet proof vest on a mission.
The eighth book in the Shadow Agents series by Cynthia Eden. Years ago Noelle Evers was kidnapped but she has no memories of the incident. Now she is a FBI Profiler. Thomas Anthony has kept an "eye" on her for these many years and now they are both working for EOD. They are sent on an assignment to Alaska together.
Enjoyed it for the most part. Still love Cynthia Eden and will continue to check out her work.
Just Nikki here telling you that we’ve got yet another winner from Cynthia Eden…I know, I know, you must get tired of me saying how much I love every single book she writes. I’m sorry, I really am….but…wait, nope, not sorry….THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME! I have loved the Shadow Agents series since book one and even at book eight I’m still enjoying them.
Thomas, nick named the dragon, has never allowed himself the luxury of thinking past his assignments. He’s deadly, eerily quiet and full of emotions that never surface. Years ago he saved a young girl who touched him in ways he was unaccustomed to and he’s kept an eye on her from the shadows ever since. Now that young girl is a woman and Thomas has to work with her even though she has no idea who he truly is.
Being a kidnap victim gives Noelle a certain insight to how killers minds work. When a serial killer reemerges with a familiar MO, Noelle is partnered with Thomas to track him down. Being alone with Thomas makes Noelle nervous simply because of the way he watches her as if he knows exactly what she’s thinking. His familiar presence sets her instincts on alert and his body warms her in all the right places.
With a killer moving in set on finishing the job with Noelle, Thomas is going to have to bare all his secrets if he has any chance of keeping her where she belongs. With him.
LOVED! Way of the Shadows gives readers taunt sexual tension mixed expertly with pulse pounding action! I loved how effective the sexual tension felt throughout this one making me sigh in contentment by the end. Being a Harlequin meant less sex, yet Eden made me feel content without it. I felt the connection between Noelle and Thomas regardless. I especially loved the fact that Thomas had been watching Noelle from afar for years just making sure she continued to be safe after her abduction as a teen. Sure, that sounds a bit stalkery but, no worries, it works. Trust me. Noelle’s ability to get into the minds of the killers worked perfectly with her courage to step into the action (much to Thomas’ dismay). This is a woman who isn’t afraid to be both smart and able.
Continuing the series story ARC there is plenty of bad guy goodness that ties all the books together. Plus, we get to revisit past characters which I always adore AND learn more about the head of the EOD. I really wish he’d get his own story…sigh. He’s so good at playing matchmaker yet he’s got this sadness to him that I wish he could heal from.
Strikingly all consuming, Eden’s an author who will in-trance your mind and spark your imagination!
I give Way of the Shadows by Cynthia Eden 4.50 stars!
Noelle Evers was kidnapped fifteen years ago. After two days her abductor was dead and she was left with no memory of what actually happened. Now she is an FBI profiler and she uses her past to get into the minds of killers. The one that she can’t seem to read is her new partner. Thomas Anthony is an EOD agent that is controlled, dangerous and hauntingly familiar.
Thomas has been covertly watching Noelle’s back for a very long time. He wanted to tell her the truth but to do that would have compromised his mission and blown his cover. With their latest mission a link to her past has been revealed. Now is the time for Thomas to step out of the shadows especially with the desire that is between them and a predator that is hunting Noelle. If he doesn’t he is going to lose the second chance he has to save the only woman he has ever loved.
This is a great addition to a series that is proving to be very addictive. The characters are well written and they bring the story to life for the reader. It is also a nice way to revisit a world that is full of action and suspense. This is fast proving to be a series for the keeper shelves. While the stories can be read as standalone books they are much better as a whole when the full series is read. The story also takes some great twists and turns and will have readers wondering just what could possibly happen next and they won’t be disappointed with the next twist that comes at them.
I must confess I got the characters in this novel a bit confused with another series involving Noelle which threw me at first.
Otherwise vintage Eden Shadow Agents stuff, tortured hero who has killed far too often, tortured heroine with a past she literally can't recall, secrets that bind them and could split them apart.
Noelle and Dragon are trying to confirm whether the Senator was behind the bombing of EOD but things quickly escalate out of control when it is discovered that Noelle's abduction as a child was not an isolated incident, but the work of a serial killer. Soon they are trying to discover the killer's identity whilst saving his victims.
In this book Eden avoids some of the angsty "she's too good for me, I must leave her for her own good" which gets really tired. Whilst I might question the wisdom of having sex in an abandoned cabin in the middle of nowhere immediately after being almost killed by a serial killer, it was refreshing that Noelle and Thomas are upfront about their desire for each other and don't play games.
FYI, the Kindle version has a cast of characters bit at the beginning which was a spoiler (for me) and totally unnecessary - avoid is my advice.
This book was another good edition to Cynthia Eden's Shadow Agents series. Was it my favorite? No, but I really liked it and was very interested the whole way through. The storyline follows some slightly new characters to the series, Noelle Evers and Thomas Anthony, as they uncover who is behind the recent domestic terroist attack on their agency. Their investigation eventually leads them to people connected to the mysterious kidnapping in Noelle's past. The action is almost non-stop, which I loved, and Noelle and Thomas fall in love during their time together. I just love the way that Cynthia Eden writes romance because it's real and the characters always get their happy ending. My only problem with this book was that it was a little too similar to another of Cynthia's books, Deadly Fear. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in romantic suspense.
Continuing on with the storyline from the last book Noelle and Thomas (the Dragon) are on their way to investigate who hired the assassin, Jack of Hearts to destroy the EOD. I was excited to read this one - I liked Noelle and Thomas from the last few books and I was interested to learn more about their mysterious past together.
And this delivered. I enjoyed the fast action packed pace and the romantic elements that were weaved through it. The tension was good and had me flipping pages to find out what was going to happen next. I liked the crossover into Noelle's past and Thomas' role with that. The guilty party was kind of obvious but I enjoyed how it was explained and how the explanation unfolded. Strong end to the series, 4 stars.
a profiler meets a trained EOD agent. as usual, the suspense aspect is wonderful and intriguing. the mind games between the agents and the killers always make me won't leave my seat.
something is different here. the perpetrator caught appropriately 65% or 70% ish of the book. usually the bad guy will caught almost at the end of the story.
Thomas is a hardened agent, he never show his true emotions but my lord, how sweet is he to always look after Noelle from a far for the last 15 years.
I wish that Ms. Eden would give us an epilogue for each couple in their book. it would be nice to see how they're doing, do they still working together, do they have kids etc.
I imagine the setting is full of white covered in snow. as a person who never see a snow, I guess all the characters must be freezing LOL

3.5 stars. Aside from the mystery of Noelle's lost memory for 48 hrs of her life during her abduction 15 years ago, there's other suspense elements because she and her coworker Thomas are partnered together to track down a killer. In the end, it all ties together. And it's anyone's guess as to who is the guilty culprit(s). I liked the chemistry between Noelle and Thomas, especially after learning more about them and the history they shared. Thomas is a trained killer, so he's dark and dangerous but also fearless. Noelle is more compassionate, but she leans a lot on psychoanalysis and logic. This was a quick read that kept me re-evaluating what was going to happen next.
I have to confess that I kinda been putting of reading this book and I have no clue why, because it was really good. I liked Noelle and I really liked Thomas. The suspense was high and our heroes run from one danger into another. It was a really nice read for a rainy evening.
My full review can be found here (written in german, sorry)
I read this book in one day quite simply because it was excellent. I loved how dark and dangerous Thomas was and how broken but strong Noelle was. She was determined to live her life to the fullest even with the nightmares still plaguing her.
There were a couple of minor issues for me (the repetition of how dangerous Thomas was being one), but none that stopped me from enjoying the book. No book is perfect, but this one comes pretty close.
Good story. Strong characters. Suspenseful. Noelle is a FBI profiler loaned out to the EOD. Fifteen years ago she was kidnapped but doesn't remember what happened. Thomas is an agent for EOD and partnered with Noelle to find a serial killer. But secrets are about to be exposed and a surprise ending that even I didn't expect.
I liked the thriller aspect of this book, and the mystery surrounding Thomas. However, I was actually hoping for Thomas to have a bit more of a sordid past than just being a soldier following orders at all costs.
My biggest gripe with the book was that as THE BEST profiler I expected Noelle to actually be good at her job. She missed EVERYTHING. Noelle was a disappointment, but the rest was good.
Wow! A stunning romantic suspense novel that's brilliant at both parts!
I have never read Cynthia Eden, but janie Crouch listed her first amongst her favorite authors! I love everything Janie has written, so I acquired Way of the Shadows! From the first page the reader is drawn into the plotline and the compelling tale never never relents! The intensity is palpable, the danger is omnipresent and the evidence is troubling! FBI profiler and Psychiatrist Noelle and her partner lethal agent Thomas deal with deadly attacks, a growing body of evidence and mutual attractions! The search for a twisted killer is convoluted by lies and secrets between the protagonists and the antagonists! Life altering questions are held in the balance! Truly a magnificent book that captured my imagination, propelled me into the story and never relinquished it's grip on my attention! I simply could not stop reading, a one sitting blockbuster! The twists and turns are brilliant, and the romance is powerful and consuming! This book is special! My highest praise!
