Get your affairs in order. War doesn’t wait for anyone to be ready.

With the terrible recent events weighing on my mind, I know the only way I can go is forward. My family, our allies, and I know for certain that there is a sect of witches that want to control the moon cursed for their own nefarious purposes. We don’t know how many of them there are, and we don’t know their names. We know it’s not every witch, but that doesn’t make us less suspicious of every single one of them. The threat is so grave that we finally have strong allies in the werewolves, not just in my fiancé, Heath Everson and those he leads. A common enemy can do that for those at each other’s necks for so long.

Although the war is quiet, it brings with it what every war brings. Change. New duties and responsibilities. New things to celebrate and things to mourn. Everyone is getting their affairs in order, moving pieces of their armies and making sure their own positions are stable.

With all the pieces moving, I find myself in a game not meant for me.
A game I am ill equipped to win.

This was great. While it was a book that was mostly setting up the end arc (Banet says there are only 4 books left in the series), there were a lot of things in this book that I have been desperately wanting to happen. I'm thrilled with how things played out, and even more thrilled with how it looks like things are going to play from here.

I also like that it looks like we're not going to have Jacky going on missions without Heath anymore. Yayayayay!

One quibble, though:

And lastly, I loooooove Subira.

Can't wait for the next book!

I've loved this series for a long time but this book felt off. The writing style felt different, the characters felt flat and the plot was thin. I fear Jacky was suffering from dumb bitch syndrome because she did a lot of pointless things that didn't make sense.

She seems to have weird feelings about Carey, she claims she loves her but told Health that she was worried Carey might shoot people that annoy her if they let her have a gun, and also said Carey was scamming her dad????

-Landon was an asshole for no good reason. Why?
-Dirk has turned into a passive princess. Why?
-Why is Jackie constantly meddling in Landon and Dirk's relationship but also always saying that she's not meddling.
-Niko serves nothing, no real sibling dynamic, no intrigue. Why is he hanging around?
-The whole Callahan and Corissa, plot was convenient, but not believable.
-The first half of the book was incredible boring and the second half just made no sense. A poison induced trip down memory lane that ends with Subira coming to save the day. Very lazy character development (Subira is awesome, just give her own book).

***Heath saying he was going to be the largest, most powerful werewolf in the world gave me the biggest ick and i wasn't prepared for it.

All in all, I love these characters so much and I am so disappointed by how shallow and annoying I found them this time. I can handle bad plot, but I want my friends back ✌️

The title and synopsis are misleading.

Seeing as the moon cursed have agreed to take the witches on together in the last book i expected more.

More political maneuvering, strategic planning on how to go forward. Except the last few pages there was nothing.

The inner turmoil of some of the characters was interesting it gave them depth.

The Callahan plot was not convincing. I will not spoil much, but no i didn't buy it. That guy has been on a power trip since his introduction.

This book read like a filler and/or a short story to keep us entertained until a full novel.

The first part of this story is a bit slow going but as things unravel it gets, as always, absolutely unputdownable! It is in a bit different way than with previous books in this series, however. This story deals mostly within deepening understanding and the reasons and motives behind much of the actions to this point. The storyline truly helps the reader really understand the characters better and for that reason I absolutely loved it.

There is a bit of action near the end but even then, it is there only to enhance the underlying motivations the are prompting the conflicts in the storyline and will absolutely affect the books to come. Bring it on!!

There always comes a book in a series which is different, simply because it is there to set-up the essentials for the last arc and to bring all the sub-plots together. I call it a prism-book of the series.

War Games is a prism-book. Most authors lose their audience here, because the prism-book is generally not that fast-paced, the thrill of reading lessens, and sometimes an arc is lost entirely because the author doesn't know how to point everything towards a satisfying end.

War Game walked close to that line in the first half, but Banet artfully never let it slip into that void. I actually think the author had something happen in her life, with the way she was weaving in mundane things, and low-conflicts. They were there to lay down crumbs for the depressive state Jacky had slipped into—that I know—but still.

Anyhow, the first half wasn't boring. I did like it. It was a glimpse, like a behind the scenes footage. The second half, though, was my favorite. THAT'S, how you bring threads togather and leave your audience looking forward to how it will all end.

I am hoping for some events to happen going forward. I trust Banet to take the story to its rightful place.

Overall, I enjoyed my evening with this book. And I definitely want more.

"War Games" is a difficult book to write a review for because I both found it dry and boring yet exciting as well. What do I mean? Well, at least 50% of the read was without any action. There was a lot of dry conversations that slowly moved the reader along in the plot; but then, there is a pivotal moment when we are thrust into so many aspects of Jacky's background history that is alarming and extremely vital in explaining her actions and views on life.

This read finds our characters attempting to move forward after the events in Alaska. Landon and Dirk have to overcome their fears in their relationship. Luckily they are able to do so and it leads to a wedding. Meanwhile, Jacky and Dirk go out to reinvestigate the Council's finding of dangerous witches. You can feel war in the air and it is vital that they find their enemies and obliterate them.

During the wedding, Heath pulls out an extremely old bottle of brandy. However, it has been tampered with and Jacky falls prey to an unusual Fae mental test called the Oberon Challenge. Heath is enrage and bound and determined to find out who is responsible for this treacherous act.
This is where we learn so much about Jacky's early upbringing and challenges. This was the really fascinating part of the read.

We can feel a war brewing in the future of this series. I'm just not sure when it will be. While I understand why the author decided to write this book the way she did because she needed to set the stage for future events. I just wish the first half of the book wasn't so dull. No matter what, I will be going on with this series. I love the world the author has conceived and I also truly enjoy the characters.

5 Predictable stars.
A good story isn’t only about the ending, in fact, it’s mostly about the journey. I think the author’s circulus route was highly entertaining.

“Things that haunt a person will always haunt you. You have to have the power to face them because only then can you overcome them.”

Jacky's suffering under the guilt of her past actions, even when they helped those she loves. In this installment, which is a bit different from those previous, she's forced to face the guilt-laden actions she taken as well as the hurtful actions done to her and try to finally move past them.

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed returning to Jacky's story. I really enjoyed all of the different POVs, which we don't normally get to this extent. I, once again, find myself anxiously awaiting the next installment. Thankfully, my GR group (SOS) is re/reading this series throughout the year, so I'll be spending time with Jacky and her growing family all year long. 😊

Author's series note: There’s only 4 books left after this one and everything through the last few have been very important to what comes next. Book #12 @ July 2025

3.5 stars- this one seemed super slow until 50% and then got super interesting. But ultimately its the politics at the end that did me in. Its getting to be too much for my weary brain.

It was interesting to see Jacky deal with her "demons" and maybe this paves a way for the bond?
And a wedding triggers her to want to marry Heath in 1 year. Umm why wait?

I will probably keep following the series but man its got sooo much going on!

This one definitely felt like it was divided into 2 sections. The first half with Jacky, Heath and their crew gear up for battle, figuring out how to do that best and stay strong. There was an issue with Landon and Dirk that messed things up for a bit, but if things have to be messed up, this is a good reason, nothing bad, just over protective instincts. It was fun how it got resolved and gave us a light fun moment until it turned on a dime.

That led to the second half, the threat is there and hurting someone. It was brutal what this person was going through, both mental and physical and the others just had to stand around and watch. The small steps they could take to help, seemed so little.

I loved that this person came through things and now has a better understanding of themselves and stronger relationships with those that matter and seem ready to really cut ties with those that don't matter.

Heath made an interesting move towards the end and luckily it worked. This will have ramifications going forward. It will be interesting to see how all of that plays out.

I love this author. The romance, the drama, the characters, the flow of the book, the world the story was set in; all of it is amazing. I’ve read all of this series, as well as the series set in the same world but with different main characters. Each character has their personality and the writing for them stays true to their core. Yes, they grow, but realistically. They are balanced, have flaws, but despite those flaws do their best and stay as down to earth as possible. That is probably how I would describe the main character: down to earth. As I enter my 30s, I enjoy a little more politicking and word play in my books. You don’t realize how prevalent it is in real life until you get older and the naive and ignorance is washed from your soul to leave behind a little experience and understanding. The author adds a little of this into her books. Not so much it’s stressful, but just enough to make it intriguing. Add in the supernatural twist of her books and it’s sublime.

This book, in particular, adds a bit of fae flare with a more supernatural politics. Things are changing with the main character and her love interest purely because they want to keep each other safe. When someone of strength stands back, it’s usually because they have no need for power. It’s only when having that power keeps their loved ones safe that it becomes worth all the problems it inevitably brings with it. There is a lot of growth experienced with Jacky in this book, but the rest of her loved ones grow in ways as well.

Again, I just have to say that the writing, flow of the story, and character building of this author is amazing and I thoroughly recommend all her books.

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story, despite the slower pacing at the beginning. The plot was engaging and beautifully crafted. Throughout the narrative, I found myself particularly rooting for Niko to train alongside his sister, as their dynamic held so much potential for growth and development. [P.S. I would love to see Niko featured in his novella or standalone book, where his character can be explored further!]

I absolutely adored the opportunity to dive into some of the additional points of view in this book. They added so much depth to the narrative. However, I found myself yearning for a glimpse into Niko's thoughts as he meticulously cleaned and bandaged his sister's wounds. It would have been fascinating to explore his emotional turmoil and determination during that poignant moment.

Also, I wanted to ask for a perspective from Davor when he got a call on Jacky's computer. The moment would have been so much more powerful if we could have felt the tension as he realized it was Dirk on the other end, visibly pale and somewhat panicky, urgently inquiring about Jacky’s well-being. These insights would have enriched the storytelling even further.

The emotional tumor served as a pivotal catalyst for Jacky’s journey towards healing from her deep-seated trauma. It embodied the pain and resentment she had harbored for years, allowing her to confront the buried emotions she had long avoided. Despite this progress, Jacky continued to grapple with intense feelings of hatred towards her parents, whose actions had contributed to her suffering, and her human twin sister, whose seemingly perfect life felt like a constant reminder of her struggles. This complex emotional landscape shaped Jacky’s path, intertwining her search for healing with the enduring weight of unresolved familial conflict.

The memories of the werecat boy weighed heavily on Jacky, casting a long shadow over her thoughts. She often replayed the moments in her mind, grappling with the nagging feeling that she had somehow failed to save him and Fenris. Each recollection felt like a wound that refused to heal.

Even with Hasan and his bad memories, he needed to be healed, and this journey allowed Jacky to start the process. Some memories will always hurt her, but she can at least think of them differently.

Overall, I loved the whole book. Sometimes the lack of physical sex scenes is annoying, but I think it still flows well without them.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book and being back in Jackie's world. Quite a few things happening, a wedding, Jackie being poisoned, going on a nightmare trip of her insecurities, but everybody rallied to save her with Subira being the ultimate mind saver. Heath challenging Callahan of the Tribunal and even Hasan featuring quite prominently towards the end. One of my favorite series and I'm excited to see there's a new one coming soon.

Stop Gap

This felt like the calm before the storm even though the second half of the book was far from serene. While I'm still deciding it this book helped or was even needed to be honest. I will say it didn't end the way I expected when things first started.

A lot of life changing occurrences for our favorites happened but this probably could have been a novella. It was better than the last book but not as great as the series in general has been.

We start with the promise of where we left off at the last book. Witch hunting and then things go topsy turvy. This book was mainly abt inner turmoil I'm not sure I realized we're such huge deals. The action happened towards the last quarter of the book. This was a bit more political in nature and I almost gave it 3 stars, but I finished it in hours without putting it down. We got a bit more of Jacky and Heath, better family dynamics and understanding so that was a plus.

I'm hoping that things return to the feel of books 1 - 8. I finished slightly disappointed but still interested in what's to come.

I seem to be in the minority but I rated this book at 2.75 - 3 stars.

This has generally been a fantastic series with some outings absolutely stellar but this didnt do it for me. The last book was a powerhouse as was the one before? but this was what I'd call a filler book allowing for a major plot arc to come.

For me, it dragged and I found myself getting turned off by all the angst, inner child psycho babble and focus on victimhood. Maybe I am getting old but it felt inauthentic and the dreamscape series made me want to claw my eyes out.

Here's hoping we have a return to form in the next instalment.

Jacky Leon continues to evolve, confronting past traumas and navigating complex relationships. The narrative delves into her internal struggles, offering readers a deeper understanding of her character.

The dynamics within Jacky's family and allies are central to the story. Heath's unwavering support and his significant decision to fight for a seat on the Tribunal Council highlight the shifting power structures. Sabine's growth and her role on the Council, despite challenges, underscore the theme of emerging leadership.

The novel also explores the looming threat of a sect of witches aiming to control the moon cursed, adding tension and urgency to the plot. This external conflict mirrors the internal battles faced by the characters, creating a layered narrative.

While some readers have noted a slower pace in the first half, the latter sections deliver impactful moments that drive the story forward. The blend of personal growth, political maneuvering, and impending war sets the stage for future developments in the series.

Overall, War Games offers a thoughtful exploration of its characters and their evolving world, maintaining the series' momentum and setting up intriguing possibilities for what's to come.

Strength in Bonds

War Games, the eleventh book in the Jacky Leon series, shifts gears from the intense action of the last few installments to focus more on relationships and character growth. While it still carries the weight of the ongoing conflicts, this book is more about the people in Jacky’s life and how they continue to evolve. That shift made it one of my favourites in a while.

Set in Jacky’s territory, War Games deals with the aftermath of previous books but explores the bonds she’s built—especially with Heath, his family, and his werewolf pack, as well as her own werecat family. Landon and Dirk make meaningful progress, and Heath steps more fully into his role within the Tribunal. At the same time, the book offers deeper insight into Jacky’s past, revealing childhood wounds that help explain her struggles and motivations.

While it doesn’t have the same level of action as the last few books, War Games delivers something just as compelling—strong emotional moments, significant character development, and a deeper look at Jacky’s relationships. It’s a well-earned change of pace and a standout installment in the series.

Jacky Leon series

Oh man! The amount of crying I did in this book. There was so many hard things to talk about in the read. I think this might actually have been the saddest book in the series. We've been through so much pain and loss. And it just hasn't stopped. And it was all brought to a head in this book. I just didn't know where this was heading, and then when I realized. I knew it was about to really go down. Heath loves Jacky just as fierce as she loves him. And did it show. I am completely wrapped with these two. The love. Ugh, they will burn the world down for each other and the family they've created. I know we all want HEA. And will get there. But I will never get tired of this series. It just grabs you, and it won't let go. One of the best series I've ever read and will continue to read.

Absolutely Love

Once again when KN Banet writes a book I can’t help but jump in and find myself completely immersed in the world that she has created. I absolutely adore Jacky and how she has grown, and this story shows just how much she truly has grown, even though there were some very important lessons learned from within. All of the characters become so powerful and important to the reader that the reader can find themselves “clutching their heartstrings” at any given moment.
I’ve been reading Banet’s books so a long time, and appreciate the time she takes to make sure they are truly beautiful, meaningful, and engaging.
No matter how long a release will ever take, due to Banet’s muse and so forth, I will always and forever be a grateful follower and supporter for the outstanding and talented writer that she truly is. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

War Games was everything I didn’t know I needed.

War Games is another gripping installment in the Jacky Leon series, and I genuinely am so excited about where the story is taking us.

Get ready because, once again, the KN Banet takes us on quite the ride. Without getting into spoilers, we find our favorite werecat caught in a war game she didn’t see coming. Buckle up.

I absolutely adored getting to see some of the additional POVs in this book. I have added a ton of new quotes to my favorites list from the series. I was feeling all kinds of feels the whole time I was reading and I couldn’t put it down.

A plot with plenty of comments about intrigue. plenty of action, and lots of emotions. It dealt with tons of past and "current" guilt and self-flagellation by multiple characters. Working thru each scene was painful. Each action didn't feel finished, just exposed. Subira plays a larger part in this than in any book in the past. It was fascinating to hear some from her viewpoint and see the powers she has. Also, a very different view of Hasan than any previous - with insight from Subira. Lots of changes for many of the characters. Definitely a foundation book for what is to come. Evidently there are 4 more books in the series - the next book will be out in July 2025.

Healing and Coming to terms of buried memories

As always when it comes to Jacky and her siblings.. I live how the dynamics of their relationship has evolved. My heart couldn't take it when she got poison and was bleeding in her dreams😶 Man subaria her mother is as always way more scarier. Loved the connection between them and the glimpse into what Jacky childhood was like and the pain of burying the scars left by her traumatic childhood and the glimpse into what her mother and father (Hassan) gave her an idea of the scars and pain into what made him flip out.
Excellent waiting on the next

This was a good addition to the series. It was a just a bit different, which suited the series well. It focused on setting up characters for the last few books of the series, and re-aligning plot pieces for those last installments of the series. The author took a different tactic to achieve this, and I think it worked well. It was much more of internal struggles. Initially the book felt directionless but eventually gained a clear line of conflict/conflicts. Developments were had with the werecat ruling family, Jacky's Texas family, and the werewolves. Lots of character dynamics were on full display and were often the full focus. It was a really good read.

I have only two complaints

The book ended too quickly and the ending was just too dry.

I have been waiting on this book for approximately six months and I finished it in a day. I love the growth this book brings. I have enjoyed all in the series so far but it was a pleasant change tk get the different POV in this one. I love how it feels like catching up and learning what was missed while waiting on the other shoe to drop. I would never have expected that shoe though. Love it. Can't wait to read it again

A kaleidoscope of emotions

So much going on in this story, the relationship with Landon and Dirk, I'm so happy for them! And though I was surprised and scared for Jackie, I think what happened to her, set her free. And I loved the back stories on Landon, Jackie, and Hasan, it gave us more understanding and insight as to why they are who they are. And just made me love them.more, or dislike them less.
I love how the 2 species are beginning to become an all inclusive family. Can't wait.to read what's next!!!!

ok

I do like Jackie, but this book was kind of boring. It really didn’t start getting good until closer to the end. There was a lot of talking in this book and not as much action even close to the end there was still a lot more talking than action. Jackie and her family are looking into the witches, having to deal with the tribunal, and Jackie ends up getting hurt. I feel that it didn’t really start getting interesting until Jackie ended up going into like a coma. I’m hoping the next book in the series is better than this one.

As previous reviewers have noted, the story begins a bit slow with little action other than talking and planning about werecats/werewolves working together and re-interviewing witches regarding the developing and using a serious potion toward all moon-called. Sort of wanted to yawn but read on knowing this was more character stuff. And wham the action began. Never fear, Ms. Banet really knows what she is about. More engaging activity for Jacky and mixing up the same-old-same-old Tribunal behavior. Gooood read!
