I turned to him, and he winked at me. Winked! We needed clear lines in place between us. We would not be flirty friends. We'd be friends, period. The sooner I made that distinction, the better.
Forty-year-old Kate Landry's carefully planned life has become as messy as the powdered sugar on her famous beignets. Juggling the responsibilities of running her café, raising her teenage niece, and the emotional baggage from her breakup, Kate finds her world once again turned upside down when her first-ever crush, Micah Guidry, returns to town as the hunky local librarian.
As Kate struggles to implement her plans to expand her café amid the New Orleans Mardi Gras madness and the meddling of her conniving ex-fiancé, Micah becomes the unwitting hero of her misadventures, stirring up feelings she thought she'd long buried. How can falling in love in the Big Easy be this hard?
Kate Landry Has a Plan. Indeed, she did! And it got her into some pickles too. This story is a very sweet, swoony, witty, and humorous book. Kate Landry owns a beignet restaurant and juggles that while also raising her teenage niece, who loves going to the library. Which happens to have the new, hunky Hawaiian shirt-wearing librarian. All kinds of funny and zany chaos break out with the various characters, and might I add animals too. I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in The Beignets for Two series. I really do hope there will be more. 4.5 stars *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, and this is my honest opinion.
Kate Landry Has a Plan By: Rebekah Millet 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is my first by this author and I really enjoyed the story. New Orleans is always a place full of good food, jazz music and more. I have been several times, so this story was fun to read
40-year-old Kate is funny and has a plan for her life and business. She is raising her niece. Raising a niece is a challenge and Kate navigates her life. Kate has people entering her life from her past, an ex fiancé, as old flame, best friend and her parents which provide several opportunities to have Kate make a detour from her plans
All the ingredients for a charming contemporary romance novel: - Humor: So much humor in the pages that had me laughing out loud at times - Dog: What's not to love about the addition of a dog obsessed teen going to GREAT lengths to sell her case? - Setting: The New Orleans vibe came through loud and clear from the food to the French Quarter - Characters: Fabulous to catch up with Julia from book one. I adored Kate. And Micah...swoon worthy personality.
Favorite quotes:
"You don't let a lot of people in, but the ones who you do...That's where I want to be."
"I had to wait twenty-seven years to kiss you again. If we go any slower, I may be too old to remember who you are."
Hopefully, the series isn't over. It's a winner for sure.
My gratitude to the author and publisher (Bethany House) for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
Delightful! I loved Kate Landry Has a Plan!! Set in New Orleans, this delightful story captivated me, it kept me turning pages, and I enjoyed every minute.
Kate is a very organized 40-year-old woman with a funny internal sense of humor, and strict plans for her life and business. She is also raising her niece Hayley.
Funny, loyal, quirky characters are peppered throughout this story as Kate navigates running her restaurant, raising her niece, contemplating a new location (part of the original plan with her sister), her 7th grade first kiss is now a hunky librarian and back in town, and her ex-fiance keeps showing up. Not to mention her disastrous parents, and her wonderful best friend Julia.
All I can say is "best laid plans" don't always go the way you think they will. I highly recommend going along for the ride with Kate Landry and her plans! Another winner from Author Rebekah Millet.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. I loved it and all opinions are my own.
If you’ve ever tried to keep everything neatly tucked into place—your career, family, and personal dreams—you’ll understand exactly where Kate Landry is coming from. Kate Landry Has a Plan is a delightful blend of humor, second chances, and faith, wrapped up in the vibrant, unpredictable charm of New Orleans. With the perfect balance of quirky characters, heartfelt moments, and life’s messy beauty, this book will captivate readers who appreciate romance, deep personal growth, and the reminder that sometimes, letting go of our plans opens the door to something amazing.
Kate’s life might look like a carefully constructed blueprint, but it doesn’t take long for us to see that the best-laid plans often meet a divine interruption. Between running her café, caring for her teenage niece, and coming to terms with the heartbreak of her past, Kate’s world turns upside down when Micah, her first love, returns to town. What follows is a rich, emotional journey filled with faith, growth, and, yes, a little bit of messiness. And honestly? It’s the mess that makes it so real and so relatable.
One of the most powerful themes in the story is Kate’s willingness to listen to God’s promptings, even when they disrupt her plans. That inner struggle to surrender control is something I’m sure many of us can relate to, and when we see Kate “… inhaled a hint of sweetness from the jasmine and relaxed my tense shoulders. Ignoring that pressing from God always proved futile. Because in the end, I knew the only peace I’d feel would be giving in to what I should have done. And I never regretted surrendering to His promptings,” It’s a moment of truth, a reminder that peace doesn’t always come from having it all figured out—it comes from trusting in and surrendering to the One who does.
The setting of New Orleans adds such a vibrant layer to this story, with its rich culture, delicious food, and the kind of spontaneous charm that makes it impossible to predict what’s coming next. Rebekah Millet brings the city to life in such a way that you feel like you’re walking alongside Kate through the bustling streets, inhaling the warm air, and savoring the beignets at her café. It’s a setting that matches the heart and soul of the story—messy, beautiful, and full of life.
Outstanding books are not complete without its lovable sidekicks, and Kate’s world is full of them—from her well-meaning but meddling ex-fiancé to the lovable rescue dog and parrot whose antics provide the perfect touch of humor. These characters add just the right balance of lightness to a story that also delves into the deeper aspects of love, family, and faith.
Kate Landry Has a Plan is a story of learning to let go, to trust God’s timing, and to open your heart to what He has in store. Rebekah Millet does an outstanding job of blending humor, romance, and faith into a delightful read that will leave you smiling, reflecting, and maybe even wiping away a tear or two.
I highly recommend this one—Kate’s journey, rich with the heart of New Orleans, the depth of faith, and the reminder that life’s messiness often leads to the most beautiful chapters, will echo in your heart long after the final page slips away.
I received a digital ARC and a paperback edition of this book from the author, publisher, and JustRead Publicity Tours, LLC. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on writing and story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
Most book reviews start with a general overview of the book. Here is my overview for 𝑲𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒚 𝑯𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 - This book is everything you’d ever want in a contemporary romance!
Kate is a 40-year-old single mother to her niece. She has the most horrible ex-fiancé ever (I legitimately hate him - good thing he’s fictional), and her former junior high crush, Micah Guidry, shows back up in town. The book (other than the epilogue) is entirely from Kate’s point of view. Her internal commentary has me laughing so hard. I started reading passages to my mom and daughter because I can’t keep stuff this funny to myself. I also appreciate that she describes her ex as a “nongreasy version of Matthew McConaughey.” I thought that was just me.
About 50% through the book, I feel like Kate needs a therapist more than she needs a plan. Not because she’s doing anything bad or wrong, but because she isn’t really living her life. Luckily, she has her best friend, Julia, who tries to point her in the right direction. And when Micah, who is slowly breaking down Kate’s internal barriers, starts saying very similar things, Kate starts seeing the light.
If you want to experience more emotions than you might during a bad period (as Kate would say), then you need to read this book. If you’ve never experienced this many emotions from one book, then you really need to read this.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This novel was all encompassing for me! I felt immersed in the rich culture and vibrancy of New Orleans and the French Quarter. The author did a great job of threading the setting and events beautifully and naturally into the plot of the story.
My heart hurt for the difficulties and losses that both Kate and Micah had dealt with in their lives. These two were definitely opposites, yet exactly right for each other. I loved learning about their backstories and uncovering Micah’s long standing feelings for Kate. Micah was definitely a steadfast and swoony hero. He and Kate had things to work through and overcome and Micah showed such patience and understanding toward her. Seeing their love story blossom in a very natural way was so uplifting.
I intensely felt the way Kate tried to keep all of the fraying edges of her plans intact. She was devoted to her niece, her cafe, and the business plans she had made with her late sister years earlier. She was a woman of faith, yet attempted to hold on to control of things in her life instead of placing them in God’s hands.
Although Kate’s character may be a bit of an exaggeration in terms of how she moves through life, she is, also, very much the embodiment of what so many people, myself included, can probably sheepishly acknowledge to be true…someone who knows that God is ultimately in control but who also tries to guide plans in the way they believe they should go.
I truly adored this story, just as I did book one in the series. Once I started reading it, I had trouble setting the book down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
5 stars all the way! I knew that I was going to love this book by page 2! There are some truly hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud. There are also some sad moments that touched my heart. At the center of it all are beignets (which I'll now have to buy or make!)
Kate is a woman with a plan(s). She crosses all her t's and dots every i. I love all of her little expressions like puny poodles! It saddens me that she has a bad relationship with her parents. Julia is the friend that everyone wants/needs. She tells it like it is but with love. Micah, oolala! Call me crazy but I love a man who wears crazy Hawaiian shirts! He's compassionate, helpful, and creative! Hayley's life changed forever when her parents passed away. Her relationship with her aunt has its ups and downs. It's encouraging to see them spending time together and bonding.
Honorable mention to Precious, the rescue dog and the parrot. Their antics cracked me up! The end really resonated with me. Everyone has dreams, but it's best to make sure those dreams line up with God's will.
I won a complimentary copy of the book from Bethany House via LibraryThing and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A cute guy librarian and a single mom to her niece, mix in a few disorderly plans and you get a fun and sweet romance!
I loved the couple in this story and the second chance romance. P.S. the first guy was a jerk, but we don't talk about him...well not too much. I'm not normally a fan of New Orleans settings, but in this case it worked for me. The yummy food and historical setting was great! also the antics of the local fowl was fun too.
*thank you to Bethany House for a complimentary copy of this book to read, all thoughts are my own.
Series: Beignets for Two, #2 Format: advanced reader copy Challenge Prompt: TBBS's, "romance stories" AND CNL's #26 of 50 - "Set in a bakery or restaurant" - Books & Beignets (bakery/café)
Book #14 of 2025: I'm a gargantuan fan of book 1 (Julia Monroe Begins Again) of this series and I think I unconsciously went into this book with Julia firmly on my brain. It's like I was expecting Kate to do and say things like Julia! Once I realized that, I had to stop myself. I made an internal switch to turn Julia off and enjoy Kate for who she is. Once I did that, everything clicked. It just got better and better as I read. Incidentally, Kate is Julia's best friend and she has a minor role throughout this novel.
Kate is 40 and a single parent to her niece of 13. Let's just say her wealthy parents are...... difficult. 😬 She has a wonderful beignet shop that she had opened with her sister years before. When her Claire and her husband were killed in an accident, she became the legal guardian of Hayley and sole proprietor of the café. Kate is striving to do everything she can to be a good parent, a good businesswoman, etc. She feels she has no room on her life for love. After all, her last relationship a decade before resulted in disaster. She just needs to put her nose to the grindstone and continue the plans her and her sister made.
Micah, her first kiss back in seventh grade, is back in town. Their friendship is renewed and then feelings arise. Kate finds herself coming up with every excuse she can to fight her feelings and a relationship. But Micah has other plans..... Cue the swoon!
Just like with book 1, there is humour. Whereas Julia is sarcastic and hilarious, Kate is more of a 'nerd' that likes alliteration and following the rules. She also tends to make a verbal blunder here and there. From her unusual word expressions to her semi-helicopter-ish parenting, she's a woman of honour and faith. One of her favourite expressions is the name of a celebrity. It reminded me of a Steve Carell movie where the actor groans, "Kelly Clarkson!"
And just like with book 1, there is far more to the novel than romance and humour. There are several layers. There are family conflicts, grieving, a girl's love for a dog, discovering one's talents, letting go of pain, etc.
I enjoyed learning more about New Orleans, owning a café, sweet Hayley and her pitifully ugly dog, and more. I especially loved Micah, despite his ugly Hawaiian shirts! 🍍🥥🌴 I appreciated his swoony, yet quirky, unabashed pursuit of Kate and being so patient with her. The staff at Books & Beignets is so special and I loved seeing Julia and Sam pop into the book. The honest friendship between the two is beautiful.
One of my favourite quotes from the novel: "He'd taken the question marks I'd had of his interest in me and replaced them with exclamation marks. Exclamation marks in bold font.”
― Rebekah Millet, Kate Landry Has a Plan (Beignets for Two), p. 175
I highly recommend this novel. I just wish I had some delicious beignets to enjoy while I read it.... 😉 Maybe when I get my hands on the audiobook with the amazing Susan Bennett narrating , I'll make some beignets ahead of time!
-- Many thanks to the publisher, Bethany House, and Net Galley for an advanced reader copy. My honest review is voluntary and in my own words. This novel will publish on March 18, 2025.
Kate Landry Has a Plan by Rebekah Millet hosts an adorable cover for the feel-good story inside. As I read this contemporary romance, I loved the influential and unique setting. New Orleans culture saturated everything: the food, the characters’ experiences, and the plot events. Millet wrote of The Big Easy in a way that only one who has lived there can.
I appreciated the balance of humor, depth, and romance in Kate Landry Has a Plan. I grinned often, especially when I identified with Kate’s calamities, and these light moments balanced out the family drama, the control issues, and the stress Kate experienced. Then, time and again, the romantic scenes took me by surprise. I’d read along, enjoying the gentle romance, until an unexpected, swoony moment with Kate and Micah would plop on to the page. All in all, the novel’s structure felt well-rounded and satisfying.
Kate Landry Has a Plan lands as the second book in the Beignets for Two series by Rebekah Millet. I enjoyed seeing Julia from book one, but this novel can stand alone without reading the first book (Julia Monroe Begins Again). I recommend this novel for readers who enjoy inspirational romances with swoony moments and just-enough depth. Four stars!
Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
Rachel Scott McDaniel said that "this book is everything," and I would have to agree. One of the things I've learned from this book is something that we should all take to heart: all we have to do in order to avoid pushups is cut beads down from trees!
Ok, but for real, this book is sensational. It didn't have all the laugh-out-loud moments for me like Julia Monroe did, but that didn't diminish my joy in reading this story. This novel is about digging deep into yourself and finding that you have things to work on. Things like forgiveness, contentment, idolatry, grief, and emotional baggage. Pretty sure we probably all have some forms of each thing listed there.
There were many lighthearted moments as well as very deep ones. I had a moment of chills and some of tears. Watching Kate with her niece was beautiful. I adored their relationship. There were also some people that I wanted Mrs. Adélaide to have her way with. And of course there's Micah. You can't go wrong with a good looking librarian!
Great book. Now I'm gonna do some exercise and cut beads out of trees!
~I was given a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required and all opinions are my own.~
Another fantastic story by Rebekah! While Julia Monroe Begins Again had more of a romance feel to it, I felt this one had a stronger emphasis on faith. Was it a romance? Absolutely! But it was also so much more, with the central theme being the importance of aligning your life with God's plan and timing, rather than our own. Kate tried hard to make her plans come to life, all with the best intentions. However, even the best intentions aren't always God's perfect plan for us. It wasn’t until she slowed down, paid attention to the world around her, and refocused that she was able to step into the beautiful future God had prepared for her. The same could be said for Micah. He faced many disappointments before reconnecting with Kate, but when he saw her again, he knew she was meant to be a part of his future, and I loved that. If there’s such a thing as a perfect MMC, Micah was as close as it gets!
And I have to mention, this book had me laughing out loud so many times! It's definitely one you don’t want to miss. If you have the chance, also be sure to check out Julia Monroe Begins Again.
I received a complimentary copy, and this review reflects my honest opinion.
Really enjoyed this story. Great characters, well written and infuriating villains and likable main characters. Loved the male libraian element and the pop culture references made me smile. The New Orleans setting was a favorite of mine too!
Kate Landry Has a Plan is the second book in the Beignets for Two series. While the main characters from the previous book do make some appearances, this could absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
This was such a cute story! I was drawn in right away with the New Orleans/Mardi Gras setting. I've never personally been, but the author did a great job of bringing us in and creating a really fun backdrop for this sweet romance. Kate and Micah had a really cute chemistry together. There's something really sweet about getting a second chance with a first crush/kiss and that was certainly true for these two after so many years. Kate has a lot of plans throughout the story, but one thing that is clear throughout is that sometimes our plans don't always work out as we hope they will. Between family issues, a sneaky ex, animal mayhem and life raising a young teenager, there was so much going on in this story to keep things interesting... and I found myself enjoying every moment. If you enjoy Christian romance, this is certainly one to check out.
**ARC received via Netgalley for consideration. All opinions are my own.
You know those stories that start off really strong, then fizzle by the end? Kate Landry Has a Plan is actually the opposite of that. I wasn’t sure how I was feeling about it until a third of the way in, then I was hooked!
☕️Read this if you love: -New Orleans settings -Female business owners -Cafe au lait and beignets -Male MCs who are librarians 🫶🏻
❤️Kate is like a lot of us- trying to manage work, parenting, and family obligations while making time for friends. Her struggle to balance everything resonated with me, and I appreciated the growth she experienced when she realized her limitations. ❤️Micah was the sweetest MMC!
✝️I also loved the way faith and Christianity were handled in the story- it felt authentic and not cheesy.
🤷♀️Why not five stars? This is purely a personal preference, but I don’t like mentions of animal excrement in stories, and there was a good bit in this one, even though it was meant to be humorous. ☺️
🥰If you love Courtney Walsh or Toni Shiloh, you should try Rebekah Millet! Her first book, Julia Monroe Begins Again, can be read before this, but this could also be a standalone.
⚠️Profanity: none Sexual: 1/5 (kissing only)
Other: Death of a loved one, toxic parents, care of aging parents, brief mention of infertility
❓Have you visited New Orleans? I went with my dad about twenty years ago, and I still about the beignets at Cafe du Monde!
Thank you to @netgalley @bethanyhouse and @rebekahmillet for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book is such a wonderful continuation of the Beignets for Two series. Rebekah Millet writes slightly older romances in a sweet and loving manner, full of maturity and grace. I love the interactions between Kate and her adopted niece, Hayley, giving us a peek into Kate's heart in helping others. Micah is the perfect person to reenter her life and show Kate that not everything has to go according to plan. There are so many good lessons about trusting God in this story that I enjoyed seeing how everything unfolded between Kate, Micah, Hayley, and their surrounding family members. The overwhelming work schedule described throughout is relatable and makes the book feel even more real.
I appreciate the snippets of New Orleans culture that the author injects, providing a taste of the culinary wonders and Cajun traditions in Louisiana. It is also a treat to see library programming outside of its usual four walls. Overall, the messages of forgiveness and not holding someone else's sins toward an innocent party are profound messages in Kate Landry Has a Plan. If you're looking for a book that speaks to the power of friendship and loyalty and how God has the best plans in store for us, this is a book that will have you immediately ordering beignets to go along with your reading.
Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and LibraryThing for providing a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Hey besties!! I have a cute book rec for you today!! This is my first book by @rebekahmillet and I can’t wait to read more from her!!
Kate Landry’s life has been kinda a mess lately which is hard for her as a person who likes to plan everything. Not only is raising her teenage niece, she is trying keep her cafe up and running as well. It hasn’t been easy either because she has been dealing with a broken heart from a break up but when her first kiss, Micah shows up in her life things start changing. I loved that Micah was a librarian and a book lover which we don’t see too often in MMC. Rebekah wove some great faith elements throughout the book which I really appreciated!! This is book 2 in a interconnected series but can be read as a stand alone.
Content ratings: No language/ closed door romance. Mentions of body fluids due a character being sick which I’m sensitive to so thought I would mention for others who may be as well.
After enjoying Rebekah Millet’s first book, I was excited to head back to the Big Easy to read all about Julia’s BFF Kate finding love! This story was super sweet and heartwarming.
Much like her other book, it depicted faith and Christian living in such a relatable way while having a super cute love story full of witty banter and swoon worthy moments. I loved Micah as a MC😍
Overall, if you love sweet romances and the magic of New Orleans, you’ll enjoy this story!
Kate Landry Has A Plan is a story that will both touch your heart and make you laugh.
From pooping parrots to a sniveling ex, Kate Landry has a lot going on. And that's not taking into consideration raising her niece or running her business. I related with Kate so much. The need to plan and have everything perfect, and just trying to dodge all of the chaos life sometimes enjoys throwing one's way. Millet set her character arc up so well.
Micah was a sweetie. Hayley, even with all of her drama, was adorable too. And viewing Julia as a side character in this book now makes me want to go read her story. Perhaps one of the most memorable characters was Cest Fou (or, as I called him, Cest Fiend), the miscreant of an avian with overactive bowels. Miss Adelaide was also a hoot.
In addition to the humorous scenes, this book also offers several touching scenes. We're reminded of the importance of giving our plans to the Lord, the importance of family, and how forgiveness is vital if we're to heal from the hurts from our past. A line I found particularly poignant was, "You don't need an apology from someone to forgive them" (pg 310). How often do we wait for an apology before even considering forgiving the other party?
Another element I appreciated was role of caregiving. Caregiving can be mentally, emotionally, and physically draining, no matter how much we love the person for whom we're caregiving. The caring and gentle way Kate remembered her mamaw and Micah and Kate interacted with Micah's father was so tender and emotional.
I recommend adding Kate Landry Has A Plan to your TBR if you enjoy Christian contemporary romances that promote faith, family, and humor.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in conjunction with JustReadsTours. No positive review was required and all opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed the first book, Julia Monroe Begins Again, but I liked this one even more! Even though I don't normally read romance, I fell in love with Kate and Micah and found myself rooting for their happily ever after. I loved that the MCs were in their forties, and I loved how the author showed that life is messy but love is worth it. For fans of Becky Wade, Melissa Ferguson, and Becca Kinzer.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this #gifted book!* ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Title: Kate Landry Has a Plan Author: Rebekah Millet Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romcom ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Synopsis: Kate Landry always has a plan A, and B, and C, and possibly D…for everything including her restaurant, her relationships, and just life in general. But when the man who gave her her first kiss shows back up in her life, all those plans go off the rails. Micah Guidry is divorced and single and now infiltrates Kate’s life since he works at the library where Kate’s niece who she is raising spends most days. With parenting a teen, running a business, and trying to decide what those futures look like, Micah and Kate’s revived feelings for him do not fit into the plan. But as her interest grows and circumstances change, can Kate learn to adapt and be ready to receive what God has in store for her? Perhaps Someone else is even a better planner than she is.
Analysis: I love that there is now a place for older romance in the Christian fiction world! Rebekah Millet fills a spot for the middle-age reader. With characters that have faced some difficult circumstances and have to deal with adulthood challenges, this book fills a slot for those who still have plans and dreams. While the start was a little slow for me, I absolutely loved the end. And if you love animals, you’ll really appreciate the variety of creatures in this book. There’s humor, faith, and slow-burn romance, but the sweet attraction was worth the wait. I loved that Micah was in it for the long haul while Kate sorted through everything she needed to. Ultimately, this book helps to focus on the One who holds the ultimate plan and purpose for our lives, and I’d highly recommend for anyone who still looking for that hope in their future.
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I’m in love with this book! It’s set in one of my favorite spots (one I finally get to visit Louisiana this summer), and holds some of my absolute favorite characters.
Yes, even Precious.
Kate Landry has so many wonderful quirks: she uses Sarah McLaughlin as a swear word (something about dog PSA commercials—you have to read it to find out)!
And she’s been known to use doggy breeds and terms to colorfully express frustration (read the book and you’ll find out why).
Hayley is adorable—but she’d hate hearing me say that. And Micah is just the best leading man I’ve met in a while.
But not everyone is lovable. I’ve never wanted to reach into a novel and punch someone as much as I did a particular person. Read the book and I think you’ll be willing to hold him for me!
And don’t get me started on dear old Mother and Father Landry. Respect your elders and all that, but I have some choice words for them as well.
So many delightful background characters to list, and a wonderful twist near the end that had me grinning through my tears. I hope we haven’t seen the last of this amazing cast (since Julia makes an appearance I’m fairly confident they will show up in a future novel.
Oh, please let there be a future novel! Very highly recommended!
Kate Landry Has a Plan was such a fun and heartfelt read! I loved watching Kate realize that life doesn’t always go according to plan — and that’s okay. Her journey of learning to let go and embrace the unexpected was so relatable. And let’s talk about the parrot drama! Those chaotic moments had me laughing out loud and added such a quirky charm to the story.
What really made this book shine for me was the relationships. Micah was an absolute sweetheart, the kind of hero who’s patient, steady, and completely devoted. I adored how he never gave up on Kate and was willing to fight for their second chance. But the heart of the story was Kate’s bond with her niece, Hayley. Their relationship was so beautiful and full of love. There was a lot of adapting and learning involved, but in the end, it stole the show for me. I also really love how Kate finally stood up to her parents! This was a warm, engaging read with just the right mix of humor, faith, heart, and romance!
Content: kisses
Thank you to the author, Bethany House, and Austenprose for a gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.
I couldn’t wait to be back in New Orleans with another Rebekah Millet novel—and she did not disappoint!!
Kate Landry’s got her life in New Orleans all planned out: running her beignet café, expanding to a second location, and raising her teenage niece. But when Micah Guidry—giver of a junior high kiss that she never forgot—returns to town as the new librarian, all her carefully laid plans go off the rails.
Toss in Mardi Gras madness, a scheming ex-fiancé, a crazy parrot, and a hairless rescue dog, and chaos ensues. Micah steps in, charming his way into Kate’s messy world and stirring up feelings she thought she’d left behind. As faith, family, and second chances collide, will Kate’s heart—and her business—find a better plan than the one she wrote?
I loved everything about this book! Micah was a total dreamboat and I loved Kate’s character. There were so many layers to this story and I truly enjoyed every second. Grateful to Rebekah for writing romances with characters in their 40s. I was also happy to see Julia (and Samuel) in this story! Cannot wait for more from Rebekah. 🥰
I SO enjoyed this story! It's refreshing to read a romcom with a 40-something hero and heroine. This sophomore story from Millet, like her debut, sets the bar in what I want from a romcom -- depth, hilarity, complexity, and just-right romantic tension that has an everydayness to it I adore. I dare you to read this story without craving beignets, wanting to shop for Hawaiian shirts, or considering the pros and cons of pets and romantic interests (in that order).
Kate Landry Has a Plan is the second book I have read by Rebekah Millet and it is such a pleasure. She has become an instant read. Personally, living in the Greater New Orleans area, I could really envision the whole story on a personal level. This will be a reread for me in the future.
The character development was great. I loved coming back to and learning more about Kate and her whole story and her niece Hayley. It was fun having a 40-year-old main character- as most books are geared towards younger ages. I loved Kate’s Gilmore girls style banter. I loved getting to know Micah and true man behind the library desk.
The storyline was fun. Who needs a movie when you have a book that is this fun and engaging? The humor was good. The setting was perfect. I loved that it was set where I live.
The relationship between Micah and Kate was clean and low spice.
Rebekah Millet did a great job intertwining faith throughout. With a reminder that our plan is nothing compared to our creator.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
Oh my word what a great and fun story this was! I could feel Rebekah radiate in her writing in this book. I have been awaiting Kate's story ever since reading about her in the the first book Julia Monroe Begins Again and I am so glad I got to know her in this book because her story was so good. This story has a such an easy feel to it. I giggled out loud multiple times at the way Kate talks and the crazy antics that somehow happen to her. The lighthearted moments definitely balanced the deeper issues of the storyline.
I felt for Kate throughout the story. She has a lot of things in her life that she is dealing with. She is still grieving her sister and although is not a grief that has overtaken her she doesn't want the memory of her to be faint so she holds on to all the dreams they made with each other despite never truly being Kate's dreams for her life. She likes to take control of every little detail of her life which at times make her a bit unbearable to deal with but it was nice to see how she grows throughout the story. I am so glad that she has Julia to talk her through her toughest moments and guide her in the way God would want her go and always rely on Him. Micah does the same and I loved how adorable he is with her niece and with her and gives her the space she needs to deal and come to terms with certain things in her life.
There were some swoony moments with Micah and Kate but the journey of this story I felt was Kate's and not the romance, which don't get me wrong, it was present and written to perfection but I really enjoyed the journey I embarked and finished with Kate. So kudos to Rebekah Millet for writing such a great story. I can't wait to see what she writes next!
