In the stark but beautiful wilds of northern New Mexico, a luxury spa and couple's retreat turns into a chilling nightmare when a woman vanishes without a trace, just hours after a public fight with her boyfriend. Worried something sinister has happened, her friends reach out to investigator Riley MacLeod, an expert skip tracer, for help. The assignment means going undercover at the retreat, which means pairing up with private investigator Greyson Chadwick. Their partnership ignites a tumultuous mix of attraction and distrust as Riley's unorthodox methods clash with Greyson's meticulous approach.
As they delve deeper into the case and a ruthless hitman is unleashed upon them, Riley and Greyson find themselves fighting not only for justice but for their very survival. Staying one step ahead of danger, the pair discovers a hidden truth that rocks them to the core. In their race against the clock, they can only hope that they're not too late.

I like this new series that Dani Pettrey is writing in now. She introduced the two main characters of this one well in One Wrong Move. Riley and Greyson have serious tension here because they have to be fake married at a resort!
Greyson is a typical broody, mysterious, protective guy, but he shows a soft spot for Riley. Riley is head-strong and smart, and she challenges Greyson at every turn. When they have to fake date, they pretend just a little easily for the other to believe that there are no real feelings involved. It felt kind of cheesy at times and the dialogue made me laugh.
I liked that both Greyson and Riley had emotional depth from the trauma in their pasts. They both had to pray and surrender to God to be able to move forward together.
The mystery was fast paced and interesting. I liked that we got perspectives from the bad guys and from the characters on the run. It gave the story more stakes.
I definitely recommend this series by Dani Pettrey! She writes romance, mystery, and faith in a seamless way.
Tropes & triggers: fake marriage, brother's best friend, money scamming, shoot-outs, blood, winter/holiday setting, only kissing.
Two Seconds Too Late was hard to put down and even better than the first in the series to me. I enjoyed visiting the characters and their PI group. The relationship between Greyson and Riley was so sweet and fun to watch as they pretended to be a couple at a couple's retreat to help find a missing friend. This one has lots of action, suspense, mystery, romance, and faith and kept me up to late to finish. I highly recommend it. I borrowed it from Libby.
The characters stepped out of the blur, showed me who they were and what they were dealing with, igniting my desire to keep turning pages. Kelly Frasier presented a problem that I wanted to see resolved, the author gave me an emotional and intellectual reason to keep reading, and I was involved in the stakes and motivation.
I doubted the skip tracer’s unorthodox methods, understood the meticulous approach of the private investigator and was caught up in a pulse-pounding narrative that kept me wondering if Riley and Greyson would be ‘two seconds too late.’
I loved the concept of ‘borrowing trouble’.
This is book two of Dani Pettrey’s Jeopardy Falls series, but it can be read as a standalone.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Enjoyed this second in the series even more than the first!
Private investigators Riley MacLeod and Greyson Chadwick are in love with each other, but both hesitant to move beyond friendship. Greyson battles with depression and doesn't feel he is worthy of Riley. Meanwhile, Riley has challenges of her own.
Unraveling what was happening at an exclusive couples resort and why was a great ride.
I loved the final sentences to end the novel and look forward to book three.
This was a great addition to the Jeopardy Falls series, following Riley and Greyson. I really enjoyed the storyline, and it had me on the edge of my seat. I do wish it had wrapped things up a little better as far as the spa, but it was still a really good read and I am looking forward to the next in the series.
At what is meant to be a beautiful and serene couple’s retreat, a woman vanishes. A skip tracer and a PI come together as a pretend couple to investigate what happened. This leads to unexpected tension in several places, as they discover the truth.
I really enjoyed this book. It had great cozy mystery vibes and it kept me interested and guessing what would happen the entire time. The writing style was easy to follow and the pacing was great. I enjoyed the characters and I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I would recommend this for anyone who enjoy a cozy mystery/thriller with Christian undertones.
This book was fantastic! Greyson and Riley, with the romantic tension buzzing between them, kept me eagerly turning pages to see how everything would work out for them. This story had some of my favorite tropes, too, including brother’s best friend, an age gap, and even friends to more. Even though this is book two in the Jeopardy Falls series, it can absolutely be enjoyed without having read the first book.
And the romantic tension wasn’t the only thing great about this story. The suspense and inherent danger that Grayson and Riley find themselves in as they work to locate a missing woman was top notch, too. I liked that these two characters were so competent in their professions as private investigators. I felt like I got a peek into that lifestyle as they worked through the steps they needed to take to run this investigation.
Two Seconds Too Late was captivating from start to finish and dealt with some serious emotional issues that both Grayson and Riley struggled with. The author did a great job of reminding these characters of the importance on leaning on God to help them through these things.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This book made it hard to adult. 😂 I was so invested I couldn’t put it down!
I loved this event more than Christian and Andi’s book—mainly because I’ve been rooting from Grey and Riley for so long & they’re all my favourite tropes rolled into one. Age gap, brother’s best friend, fake dating, forced proximity, AND SUSPENSE. Yes please. 🥰
The suspense was suspense-ing. The romance was very cute without being cheesy (as sometimes happens in romantic suspense). And I loved the way Pettrey handled depression and veteran mental health.
And that ending?! Ugh, how am I supposed to wait for the next book!!!
I received an advance digital copy of this novel from the publisher, Bethany House, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Jeopardy Falls series sounded incredibly promising to me. A family of siblings who survived a rough start to life, who escaped their con artist parents’ legacy and their hometown of Vegas. To make amends for their early lives of crime, three of these four siblings become security experts or private investigators. I love this kind of redemption story, especially when sibling bonds are so vital to the plot. However, One Wrong Move fell a bit flat for me. I was interested enough in the characters to continue the story in Two Seconds Too Late, the second installment. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with this one any more strongly than I did with its predecessor.
There were some elements I enjoyed. I found the case interesting and layered, though I do wish those layers had been further explored. The romance contained a lot of very popular tropes. We have friends to more, fake dating, mutual pining, opposites attract, and a slight age gap. Which means that, for readers who are more interested in the romance part of romantic suspense than they are in the suspense, I can see this working well for them. The settings, especially the snowy couples’ retreat in the mountains, were well drawn. There’s also a deep dive into family histories of suicide and depression, and living with the possibility of succumbing to the same looming over your head, that was fairly well handled, if a bit awkward in its conveyance.
The story gets off to a slow start, but it’s an interesting enough story. My biggest problem is that it did a lot of telling instead of showing, making it impossible to connect on any kind of emotional level. Which is likely why I often found myself rolling my eyes at the romantic elements. I also think the romantic elements get more page time than they should as the characters are engaged in so tense a case. For instance, when someone is shot, a lot more time is spent on the sexual tension during the cleaning of the wound than on the action that led to the injury in the first place.
Something about Pettrey's style doesn't land for me. It feels immature and cliche. Lackluster. Her dialogue comes across as stiff, outdated, and unrealistic to me. As so some of her characters’ inner thought lives. This was especially bothersome in the romance department. There was so much "he only views me as a friend" and "she doesn't look at me that way" when all signs point in the opposite direction. It drove me a little bit bonkers.
There's a nice, tidy ending to the particular plot of this installment, but a couple of important plotlines for the future were opened up and purposefully left hanging. Which is a really smart way of ensuring that readers return to the next installment when it drops. However, I don’t think I’m going to be one of those readers. I do have a couple of other completed series from Pettrey on my shelf, so I’m not writing her off completely. I just don’t think I’m the right reader for her work.
"You have all of me"--he pressed a kiss to her lips and nuzzled her nose--"for as long as you'll have me."
Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey
This book has the best fake dating and suspense I’ve ever read. So much delicious tension, romantic and suspenseful! Seriously, this book was so good!
I loved everything about this book. Our two main characters are both healing from and wrestling with something very difficult from their past. Together they help each other realize that by surrendering their hearts and wills to God and Christ will help them fully heal. I loved the beautiful Christian messages of allowing the Savior Jesus Christ to help us heal from past wounds. Sometimes it's very difficult to do so. I've struggled with it, but little by little, I'm healing. And this book's messages helped me on that journey.
The romance and fake dating in this book is seriously the best! Riley and Greyson have been friends for a long time, practically brother and sister. He is her brother's best friend. There is a lot of chemistry, tension, forced proximity, and lots of other delicious parts, including those kisses and the yearning!
Woah, that kayak scene had my heart literally beating so hard! Probably my favorite suspense scene in the book. The suspense and mystery in this book seriously had me on the edge of my seat and guessing all the way through. We even get a hit man's POV.
I highly recommend this amazing Christian Romantic Suspense book! Available wherever books are sold.

Being a sucker for romantic novels, I believe I've found my perfect new genre combo of romance and action in "Two Seconds Too Late" by Dani Pettrey. It's hard to find someone who doesn't want to be found, especially if they're running away from something or someone who's hunting them. To find Kelly's missing friend Riley, a private investigator of the company owned by her and her brothers had to fake being a couple with Grey, a close colleague with whom she shares some romantic feelings, though both are uncertain about the other's stance.
While reading this book, I couldn't help but be impressed by the beautiful blend of romance and action. The romance unfolds as a slow burn, yet remains engaging, and the action scenes are fast-paced with just the right amount of detail and suspense. The book is well-structured and explores themes of love, family, depression, and revenge.
Riley and Grey are strong characters who help each other navigate the weight of their decisions and the guilt they've imposed upon themselves. The portrayal of depression and the importance of loved ones in the healing process resonated deeply. I enjoyed watching Riley and Grey work together on Kelly's case, seeing as they have different methods of handling things but managed to strike a balance. I appreciate that Dani included her social media handles, which allowed me to connect with her further.
I noticed the clever use of numbers in the titles - "One Wrong Move" for the first book and "Two Seconds Too Late" for this one. This piqued my interest, and I'm eager to read the first book to learn more about Riley's brother Christian and his girlfriend Andi's story.
The cliffhanger ending suggests a third book is on the horizon, and I'm excited to see what comes next.
Book two in the Jeopardy Falls series has Riley MacLeod and Grayson Chadwick teaming up to go undercover at a couples spa retreat. With friend Kelly gone missing, they try to find the reason Kelly left the spa abruptly. More confounding is why Riley recieves a key and a cryptic note. While searching for clues, Gray and Riley find they can no longer deny the attraction growing between them, especially when they are posing as a couple. But each has baggage in their past that is putting a damper on romance. They both have a strong faith that they rely on to get them through the threatening situations and they count on their expertise as members of a private investigation team to hunt down answers, even as danger follows them. Intense from start to finish, this was a page turner with interesting characters, a twisty plot and a sigh worthy romance. * A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Bethany House through Celebrate Lit tours via NetGalley. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are mine alone.*
Book 2 in the Jeopardy Falls series features Riley MacLeod's story. She, along with her brothers Deckard and Christian, as well as Greyson Chadwick own and operate MacLeod Investigations. Riley, an expert skip tracker, is contacted by an acquaintance to find a friend who has disappeared from a luxury spa in New Mexico. Going undercover as a couple at the spa, Riley and Greyson hope to find some answers. But suddenly they are in the crosshairs of first arrows then guns and it becomes a race against time. As they look for clues, a much more sinister plot emerges. Can they find the missing woman and her companion before those who want her dead succeed? Can Riley and Greyson outwit the criminals and keep themselves safe? Heart pounding suspense mingles with romantic undertones to keep you up way past bedtime!
I was gifted a copy of this novel by the publisher through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This was such a great suspense and a very thrilling sequel! The majority of the book kept me on my toes constantly guessing and trying to figure out who was who and what the villains were up to as Grey and Riley raced to stay two steps ahead. There was great depression representation in here, which I think more Christian Fiction books should highlight, and there was also some humor with the fake dating trope which was a fun twist to a more serious theme. Then, the cliffhanger at the end already has me guessing what a next book may hold. There were parts that got a little too convoluted and somewhat slow, but that may be because I'm in an extremely busy season of life right now, and my tired brain may have just checked out. Who knows? 🙃 Either way, I really enjoyed my time reading this, and I can't wait to see how the interconnected plot wraps up in further books in the series!
Two Seconds Too Late is an absolute page-turner! The intriguing title and stunning cover art drew me in, but the first page truly hooked me. The storytelling is so captivating, and the tension and expert pacing kept me turning pages with anticipation. I love when a book refuses to let me go
I found Riley to be incredibly relatable and easy to empathize with. Grayson is a fascinating match for her, both professionally and personally. Their relationship development as they work towards finding answers is beautifully portrayed, and their faith adds a touching element to the story.
This story goes beyond suspense, danger, and romance. Riley and Grayson are flawed characters with difficult pasts and emotional wounds that are intricately woven into the plot, adding depth and providing a satisfying sense of healing.
First Lines (Prologue): THWACK. The bullet collided with the car at Riley’s back a moment before a retort echoed in the stale air of the junkyard. Series: Jeopardy Falls, book 2 Genre: Christian Mystery and Suspense Author: Dani Pettrey Page Count: 320

Two Seconds Too Late is the second book in the Jeopardy Falls series but could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
Dani Pettrey never fails to deliver a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and this one was certainly no exception. Admittedly, there were a lot of characters to keep track of in the beginning, which took me a little longer to straighten out in my head, but once I did, I was hooked. When a woman (Kelly) goes missing from a couple's retreat, Riley and Greyson go undercover as a couple to see if they can learn what has happened to her. With danger around every corner, this story takes us on a chase that will keep you on the edge of your seat... with a fantastic romance blossoming throughout as well (though the suspense certainly takes center stage with this one). There were enough twists and turns to keep things interesting, holding my attention right through to the end. And that ending!? Yes, it certainly has me looking forward to the next book too! If you love Christian romantic suspense, this is certainly one to check out.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
"You can't fear a life that may never come to pass. Otherwise, you're living it out in your mind all the time instead of enjoying the blessing of the moment."
Greyson and Riley were fun to get to know. Their romance had the older brother's best friend trope mixed with opposites attract trope. Logical, methodical, serious Grey complemented emotional, go-with-your-gut, optimistic Riley very well and it was exciting to see them partner in field work. Grey carried a lot of burdens - some familial, some from his work, and some personal. Riley struggled through PTSD from her last case and both needed to let go of their fear and lean on God one day at a time. The suspense component of the plot was complex and intricate; I did not see it coming though we did get snippets of the villain's voice throughout the story. I enjoyed getting to know Deckard from his voice in this story and I'm looking forward to the next book as he reconnects with Harper.
I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Bethany House via JustRead Tours and NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
I loved Riley and Grayson in book 1 and couldn't wait for this book in hopes that they would get together. We know Riley likes Grayson but how does he feel about her? When a woman goes missing at a couple's retreat they end up going undercover to try to find her. Can they make a fake relationship look real? Will this blur the lines into real life feelings? There were so many scenes that made me see just how great of a couple they could be together. As much as I enjoyed the romance I also really enjoyed seeing them put their private investigator skills to work and figure out where to next. There was a lot of action that not only kept them moving but also the ones they are tracking and those that are tracking them. Filled with twists and turns that had me hooked to know what was going to happen. I loved that we got multiple perspectives throughout the story. In the midst of the suspense and action we have real life still happening and characters opening up about personal struggles and demons they are dealing with, and there are conversations about putting your trust in God not yourself. While the case is wrapped and we knew where the romance is headed the book does end with a cliffhanger. I can't wait to continue with this series.
3.5 stars. This started out pretty well for me, but I was starting to lose interest by the end. I liked the characters well enough and shipped the romance. I did think Greyson’s big secret about why he thought he couldn’t be with Riley was a little over dramatic (which is something I’ve taken issue with in some other books by this author). I wished there was more about the cult and the villain. It sounded like it could have been very interesting but just the barest of details were crammed in at the end.
Though I’ve focused more on the faults here, it was a mostly enjoyable read. I liked the cliffhanger the book ended on and look forward to reading the next book.
Two Seconds Too Late is a fast pace book full of twists and surprises that will leave you on the edge of your seat! The characters were beautifully written and the plot was amazing! When a women goes missing at couples retreat in New Mexico, all eyes turn to the boyfriend who they all just witness get into a huge fight with the missing girl. This forces Riley MacLeod and Greyson Chadwick, who have very different methods, to go undercover together at this retreat. With a hitman after them, secrets at every corner, it is a race against time for their survival!
I really enjoyed this book, and as a huge fan of Dani Pettrey, she did not disappoint! She had me guessing the entire time, and had me flipping pages well past my bed time!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
There’s something to be said for listening to a suspense book while on your daily walks around the neighborhood… today I was convinced someone was following me 😂 Dani Pettrey always sucks me right into her books. I think Greyson and Riley are my favorite in this bunch!
“You can’t fear a life that may never come to pass. Otherwise, you’re living it out in your mind all the time instead of enjoying the blessing of the moment.”
I have been eager for Riley & Greyson’s love story since getting hints of their suppressed feelings in book one of Dani Pettrey’s Jeopardy Falls suspense series. Both characters are such fun – and so layered – that I knew their romance would be full of delicious sparks as well as deep conversations… and I was right! Along with navigating her protective older brothers who are BFFs with Grey, Riley and Grey also treat me to three other favorite tropes: undercover/fake relationship (that turns real), friends-to-love, and opposites attract. That may sound like a lot of very different tropes going on for one romantic suspense, but it really isn’t and it all fits smoothly together into a cohesive whole that delighted me at every turn and kept me solidly engaged in each aspect of this story – the romance, the suspense, and the character growth.
The suspense in Two Seconds Too Late is riveting with several unexpected twists and some plot layers that I couldn’t have predicted. I briefly made the mistake of thinking that this would be a pretty straightforward investigation to serve primarily as a device to get Riley and Grey undercover together (and I wasn’t complaining because hello, sizzling chemistry!). But as a Pettrey superfan I should have known better. Yes, the undercover/fake relationship and subsequent romantical deliciousness are top of my list for what I loved about this story, but this well-plotted suspense takes on a life of its own, too, one that kept me happily on the edge of my seat!
However, while we’re talking about the undercover thing again (I’m clearly obsessed)… One of my fave things in TV shows like Castle or Scarecrow & Mrs. King or other series where the lead characters can’t address their romantic feelings is when they use an undercover kiss to get out of a potentially-tight spot where they’re about to get caught by someone they’re investigating. Sometimes I even love that undercover kiss more than their first ‘real’ kiss. And let me just say that the kiss initiated to keep from being caught in Two Seconds Too Late is probably my very favorite one ever! WOW! I’m still fanning. Whew! Pettrey does a phenomenal job of conveying all their repressed longings and love and hope in one toe-curling smooch, and I’m here for it.
Bottom Line: I loved so many things about Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey and, if I mentioned all the romancey and suspensey and brotherly scenes that made me smile, we would be here all day. These characters – Riley, her brothers, and Grey – are so well-written with defined personalities and intriguing plot arcs. In particular for this book, Pettrey excelled at writing Riley’s and Grey’s emotional backstories as revelations that hit the heart while also being sensitive to readers who may have similar experiences. Not only that, but danger stalks them at every turn, and just when you think you know where it’s going to go, another brilliant twist changes everything. And that ending!!!! The foreshadowing for the next book has me doing my own sort of stalking, waiting very impatiently for word of its release date! Don’t be even one second late to this party – make sure you read Two Seconds Too Late as soon as possible!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Oh my goodness! This book is total romantic suspense perfection! Dani Pettrey is one of my top favorite authors, I’ve read all of her books, and her new releases are always at the top of my most anticipated list! Two Seconds Too Late absolutely blew my mind, and I love it with my whole heart! Sibling series are my absolute favorite! I fell in love with the MacLeod family in One Wrong Move, and I was absolutely thrilled to get little sister Riley’s story! This book exceeded all my sky high expectations! Riley and Greyson are a perfect match, and it was a joy to watch them fall in love! The swoon-worthy romance in this story gave me all the feels! This book has so many of my favorite things: friends-to-lovers, brother’s best friend, opposites attract, only one bed, undercover identities, and fake dating! As with everything this author writes the suspense was non-stop and kept my adrenaline pumping from beginning to end! AND THAT ENDING!!!!! 😱 Golly, I NEED the next book like yesterday! The faith story in this book is beautiful, it touched my heart deeply. And I love that the author touched on depression, and other mental health struggles. Dani Pettrey’s books are always my happy place, they entertain me, inspire me, and encourage me more than words can say! It’s been quite some time since a book has gotten me so engrossed I forget I’m reading because I feel like I’m living the story alongside the characters. Two seconds Too Late did exactly that and I loved every single moment! I seriously loved, loved, LOVED everything about this story, and it’s now one of my favorite Dani Pettrey books! I most highly recommend Two Seconds Too Late (though if you’re new to the series I’d suggest starting with One Wrong Move) This book is everything I want in a romantic suspense, and it most definitely has a spot on my 2025 favorites list! I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Please read the Jeopardy Falls series, you will not be sorry!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author! My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own
What a ride! I remember being intrigued by Riley and Greyson's relationship in the first book of the series, but to see it play out in this book, especially Grey's hesitation to reveal his feelings to Riley, was poignant. I really liked them as a friends-to-more couple! As to the suspense, in true Dani Pettrey style, it kept me on the edge of my seat wondering how long it was going to take before things truly came to a head. We understood what was happening with Kelly as parts of her story were revealed throughout, which gave the story even more intensity, especially as she, as well as Riley and Greyson tried to evade capture. I love that we could see that these characters chose to have faith, even if they needed (and got!) reminders to lay everything . . . even the hard parts . . . at Jesus' feet. 4.5 stars (and goodness! talk about a startling ending!!!!!)
I'm a longtime fan of Dani Pettrey's exciting romantic suspense so I've been looking forward to the second Jeopardy Falls novel ever since seeing the interesting title. Two Seconds Too Late. Too late for what? Boy, did I find out!
Two Seconds Too Late was one wild ride from start to finish and Dani Pettrey doesn't give any of her characters or her readers a moment's pause to catch their breath. The mystery in Jeopardy Falls book 2 was a particularly good one and I think one of Dani Pettrey's best. The different threads are cleverly woven together into one seamless mystery that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
Riley and Grey were both great characters. Both of them are flawed but are trying their best. They both have a lot of baggage from the past that keeps trying to derail their search as well as their budding romance. Honestly, I liked how real that made them as they came across as wonderful people who are not impossibly perfect.
Anyway, Two Seconds Too Late is an excellent read and one that is not to be missed. Between the dramatic landscape, the many twists and turns of the mystery, and the romantic sparks I think this is one of my favorite novels by this author so far. Now I can't wait to find out what happens in the next Jeopardy Falls book 'cause I know it will be good....
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
"'I should have bowed out of the case at that point.' He looked over at her for the briefest of seconds, and she absorbed his pain—the sorrow raw and at the surface. She longed for him to stop the car so she could wrap him in her arms."
As colleagues, Grayson and Riley work well together. But when they have a chance to go undercover together, perhaps their desires to connect will rise to the surface. Can they speak the truth about how they feel?
Along with her two brothers, Riley is a private investigator. Grayson also adds his expertise to their firm. The case that they are uncovering had some unexpected elements.
The suspense elements are strong. The slow-burn romance is sweet. And the faith and family aspects also add so much to the story.
This is book two in the Jeopardy Falls series. The characters are connected. I am glad that I read "One Wrong Move" first. But this book could be read as a stand alone.
I read this book as a part of a book tour. I wanted to read and review it. All opinions are my own.
In an enjoyable and suspenseful sequel to One Wrong Move, Dani Pettrey gives us an on-the-edge-of-your-seat ride as Riley and Greyson try to figure out what has happened to Riley’s friend, why she left her a mysterious key, and who is suddenly putting Riley’s life in danger! Aside from external danger, Riley’s heart is in serious trouble as she spends time undercover as a couple with her colleague Grey, who she’s had feelings for… for years.
It was fun unpacking the mystery with Riley and Grey, all the while aching for them to admit their feelings for each other and to fully understand what in their backgrounds is holding them back. The suspense plot is a roller coaster of secret searches, being chased, shootouts, and mystery. We get Riley and Grey’s POV but also some from Riley’s friend Kelly who is the one in trouble. And the romance is so achingly sweet. I love how the character’s faith plays a critical role in decision making and coming to accept things that have happened.
There’s also several cliffhangers and burning questions coming out of the epilogue… I can’t wait for book 3!!
I received a complementary copy of this book from NetGalley and JustReadTours. I was not asked to leave a positive review and my opinions are my own.
Reading a Dani Pettrey novel guarantees a wild ride. Two Seconds Too Late is the second book in the Jeopardy Falls series written by her.
Riley, her brothers, and Greyson form a private investigation team. Action kicks in from the very first page and doesn’t slow down.
Riley and Greyson are a relatable couple with many struggles early on. Their relationship is the opposite-attract type and tested when they go undercover at a luxury spa and resort. Their goal? Find a missing woman and avoid two dangerous hitmen who want to end their investigation. They pose as a couple, adding extra tension to their mission.
The story is packed with mysteries that unfold as the book goes on. Riley and Greyson quickly realize the woman’s disappearance is part of something bigger. They’re racing against time to find her. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow as obstacles kept them apart. Secrets, hidden motives, and possible links to the case add layers of suspicion and keep the story interesting.
Overall, Two Seconds Too Late delivers a gripping mystery and suspense story. It keeps readers hooked with twists, surprises, and intense moments until the very last page.
Fans of fast-paced romantic suspense books will love this upcoming release of "Two Seconds Too Late", the second in a series by Dani Pettrey. Right from the first line of the book, the reader is drawn in and kept engaged in this book of chasing someone while being chased to solve this suspenseful mystery. The reader goes from place-to-place with main characters, Riley and Greyson, both private investigators, to find out why Riley's friend drops off a key at her house and takes off into the night.
Both Riley and her friend are being chased over this key, and the mystery of what it's for throughout the book. As Riley and Greyson, working with Riley's brothers try to figure out where the friend has gone, the two of them fight past struggles and a building friends to more romance throughout. Mental health struggles are discussed in the book, but done in a caring manner by the author. There are strong faith elements woven in this book which provide a light to the darkness.
I hadn't read the first book in the series but was able to jump right in where this one picked up. The ending leads the reader into the next book, so there will definitely be another one after this that I will want to read! This book is suitable for adult readers - not recommended for anyone under 18 due to topics discussed in the book. I felt the book did a great job wrapping up this mystery and the romance.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
