of course loved this volume but i think they did reno dirty. like why do you make him be compatible with the strongest kaiju never before having compatibility with anyone before hyping him up to then sideline him and not make him appear in any major final epic battle? im mad.

Además por fin el resto de la población ya sabe que el Kaiju No.8 no es malo, sino que protege a humanos.

Por cierto, me acabo de dar cuenta que no hay tomos. No sé si porque el manga termine en el siguiente tomo o porque aún está en publicación...

during all the chapters until the most recent one, i was waiting for more lighthearted moments since that was one of the highlights for me when watching the anime. the story had a promising premise, a grown adult man is given the chance to pursue his childhood dream once more, but he's only able to by becoming the one thing he swore to destroy. the earlier chapters/episodes were something, and i'm saying that in a positive connotation.

it felt like there were no longer any stakes at all ever since kafka revealed himself to be kaiju no 8. nothing i should be scared of or root for. though one moment did stick out to me, and it was when hoshina said that he and that prototype kaiju are cheap imitations.

a lot of the growth, i suppose, could've been fleshed out a lot more? the subjugations didn't have as much "oomph" to them when they were over as i expected them to be. that was disappointing, i had high hopes since i started the anime.

kafka's relationship with mina was really confusing as well, all i get that is that they made a promise that's very important to them, but i don't know why it's so important and why they're shown being each other's motivation other than... that promise? when mina and kafka finally stood side by side, i wasn't especially overjoyed or anything. i feel like i still wouldve felt the same reading that even if their whole backstory didn't exist.

oh, but i loved kikoru's arc though. her character's one of the best ones in this series for me. she was super badass and i was so proud of her for realising that despite losing two of the most important figures in her life, that doesn't mean she's alone.

tldr most things fell flat to me. but i still stuck through because i had fun despite everything, that alone is a solid 4 stars for me🫡

It's nice to finally see Mina and Kafka fighting together, but at the same time I still don't understand their relationship dynamic that well. I feel like this story has gotten a lot less interesting recently. It's basically just constant fighting without much interaction between characters and consequently without much character development. The tone switch up is also weird. This manga started out kinda funny and lighthearted and now it's trying to be serious and it's falling flat for me. Maybe reading this at the same time as Kagurabachi just isn't a good move, idk. I might be done w this one.

These chapters flew by so fast! I think reading the last few volumes - 14 to the end, most likely 16 - will be so epic. It sorta feels like a shame that this series is coming to an end, but short is so *SWEET* sometimes! I think the author is making a good decision ending things here.

I'm not really sure where the mangaka could really take things. The kaiju and the human characters are so physical, that unless they went with completely out of this world powers, I don't think we'd see satisfying "bigger" bads/antagonists in the future.

I am curious as to how things will actually end though. Because, surely, the series running longer could be argued if kaiju still exist. But then we get closer to the trap of: how do you make an antagonist to top No. 9?

for my week off, i decided to reread and catch up with kaiju #8, ultimately i think it's a good manga, it's an enjoyable read with interesting characters maybe too many of them?) with an intrigue going at break neck speed (which seems to be a standard for shonen nowaday).

It's not doing anything extraordinary, it's pretty basic actually but it's fun and i want to see what happens next.

P.s : maybe it's just me being anti-military but the action does take place within the military and i can't help but wriggle my nose because it does have rancid nationalistic/conservative vibes at times lol

This series has kind of been loosing my interest a bit. Things are starting to feel a tad repetitive. I will read the series to the end, partly because I’m already this far and because I do still enjoy it to a degree.

Knowing it’s already ended and that there’s only 17 chapters left for me to read, I have a feeling it may feel rushed, as that’s only a volume or two left to wrap up the whole story.

It’s a relatively simple shonen manga, which is fine, but I still wanted more depth and explanation on some things and I have a feeling that won’t end up happening, sadly. Action and art are still awesome though.

So this volume was awesome we finally get to see Kefka and Mina fighting together fulfilling their childhood promises and it was awesome since they do fight like they have known each other for years and it really cool. We see Kefka get his own fighting style and while he does not have a iconic move like other Shonen protags have, it is was still really cool seeing his fighting style evolve. And seeing how #9 evolve and change is great and reminds me why I love the monster designs in this series as they are both cool but creepy at the same time.

Ce n'est pas un shonen qui vient révolutionner le genre, mais j'accroche plutôt très bien. Le charat design me plaît, même si entre nous c'est un abusé que tous les personnages soient extraordinaires... Bon, après on passe outre vu que ça offre des scènes de combats plutôt super ! Mais pas tellement surprenantes puisqu'à la fin ce sont toujours les mêmes qui gagnent.

J'ai quand même l'impression que ça ne va pas être trop long en termes de volumaison, enfin j'espère... Parce qu'il faut avouer que c'est un gros point qui me pousse à poursuivre cette lecture !

Toujours aussi incroyable 🥲, le combat du N°9 contre le N°8 est juste incroyable. Plein de retournements de situations que je m'attendais pas, dont l'utilisation des facultés du N°2 par le N°9, voir le N°2 dans le même corps que lui, mais surtout voir qu'Isao résiste encore et toujours au N°9 et qu'il arrive à retirer les facultés du N°2 au N°9 afin que le N°8 puisse en terminer avec lui, c'est juste incroyable !!!!!! J'adore aussi quand le Kaiju n°8 déchaîne toute sa rage et devient aussi sauvage qu'un vrai Kaiju !!!

Sono cosciente che mantenere un manga dal primo volume fino al seguente, con una piccola eccezione, alla sua climax sia praticamente assurdo e che i continui scontri, i background devastati, le scene aree, i combattimenti iper dinamici e di personaggi di grosse dimensioni siano delle sfide altamente complesse, ma non posso non definirmi deluso da questo volume. Mi è parso un lungo topos tipico degli shonen.

I liked that Kafka and Mina are now fighting together. However, I just wish they could have given us a little more back story and discussed a little deeper their friendship, their childhood bond and how they ended up like this.

Kafka finally fighting by Mina’s side is SO bittersweet. It definitely wasn’t in the way he imagined as a child, but he achieved it.
Reality will rarely play out as you imagine it, and is often disappointing /ref
But sometimes you have to just keep pushing through either way.
I love the theme of “you can achieve your dreams at any age if you try hard enough” so much…!!!!

En manga es raro que ponga 5* (aunque esté tomo se lo merece) porque siempre espero que el siguiente sea mejor.
La trama, la complicación, la resolución parcial, el “cliffhanger” (espero que así se escriba) para el siguiente tomo, los flashbacks, todo me gustó.

Incredible as usual. Between the story and the characters everything meshes so well. The fight between #8 and #9 is just spectacular and to see the twist of him learning variant moves is very cool. Really excited to continue this series.
