The only place that Oakleigh Davenport feels close to God is when she's out in the ocean riding the waves on her surfboard, which is ironic because feeling close to God is the family business. Being an influencer, socialite, and daughter of a prominent megachurch pastor is no easy image to uphold. After a reputation destroying mistake, Oakleigh's world comes crashing down as she is forced to forfeit her social status, clout, and trust fund, leaving her to solely rely on the charity of others. Trading her surfboard for a pair of cowboy boots, she is exiled to Callaway Ranch, a little corner of the world that belongs to her Aunt Maeve, the whispered about black sheep of the family.

Through it all, she realizes that things aren't always as they seem and that family secrets run deep. As she searches to find her identity apart from everything she's ever known, Oakleigh discovers that her journey at Callaway Ranch comes complete with boundless love and compassion, handsome bull riders, and a soul-filling cup of cowboy coffee.

This book was incredible.
I went into this book pretty blind. This is Amy’s debut novel but it reads like it was written by a seasoned novelist.
Oakleigh is a “Christian influencer” with millions of followers and was born into a “ministry family” where judgmental/unloving/unChrist-like individuals filled her life. She was self-centered and worldly—but privately. After her fall from her pedestal she is sent to live with her Aunt Maeve, a woman she’s never met and was banished from her family when she was just a girl.
The romance in this book was light, but super sweet, and added well to the plot.
The faith was incredible through it, especially as reflected in Aunt Maeve. She’s a woman who loves as Jesus loves despite the hurts she faced.
This story captures “church hurt” well and shows how Christians should forgive man’s imperfections but hold firm to their faith, knowing that church hurt comes from man and not God. She also healed from it and became a stronger believer because of it, turning her selfishness into selflessness and learning how to love like Jesus and forgive even when it’s the last thing she wanted to do.

Boundless by Amy Caldwell is an extraordinary debut novel that revolves around the intricacies of faith, redemption, and the boundless grace of God. The opening chapter sets the tone with a poignant quote: “There in the water was where she felt closer to God than anywhere else, which was ironic because being close to God was the family business."

The characters in this book are not just words on a page; they are individuals with relatable flaws, hurts, and struggles. Whether you've experienced church hurt or not, the narrative provides profound insights into the human experience while offering a compelling description of the solace and redemption that Jesus extends to those who seek Him and have been wounded.

Set against the backdrop of California's beaches to Montana's sweeping plains and mountains, the story presents a vivid kaleidoscope of honesty, grace, understanding, and sometimes, condescending attitudes. The small-town aesthetics, bull riding cowboys, and a charming coffee shop add commonality, making it easy for readers to connect with the characters and the impactful story.

The characters are so well-crafted that you'll find yourself deeply invested in their journeys from the first page to the last. The emotional depth of the story will take you on a rollercoaster of laughter, anticipation, and tears of joy. The layers of the characters are easy to navigate, keeping you engrossed in their compelling stories.

As you read Boundless, consider which character resonates with you the most. Do you find yourself mirrored in a single character, or do you see fragments of your identity woven into several personas throughout the story? Whatever revelations surface, take them to the throne of God. Request His transformative work in and through you, molding you into a more Christlike servant of His (Isaiah 64:8). Prepare to witness a shift in your perspective and a transformation in your interactions (1 John 3).

Throughout the book, Christian-faith life lessons are seamlessly woven into a captivating story that is relatable on multiple levels. The redemptive arc of the narrative is a powerful reminder that, despite life's challenges, human imperfections, and our sinful natures, there is always hope and the promise of grace, forgiveness, and redemption through Jesus (Ephesians 1:7, Romans 3:24, and Titus 2:14).

While the initial impression might suggest a romance, the narrative surprises with its exploration of a broader aspect of Christianity, keeping readers engaged with unexpected twists and turns. The storyline takes unexpected turns, keeping the pages turning as you become invested in the lives of the characters and the unfolding plot.

Boundless is more than just a novel; if you let it – it is a transformative journey that explores the complexities of true faith, profound forgiveness, and the immeasurable grace of God. Amy Caldwell’s authentic storytelling will leave you eagerly anticipating her next fictional endeavor.

I received a kindle version of Boundless from the author, Amy Caldwell. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on this story’s remarkable content, ensuring transparency and reliability.

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

Wow…wow, wow, wow! This plot will suck you in right from the start, I can assure you of that. Mega influencer and socialite Oakleigh - daughter of a very prestigious pastor who runs a megachurch in CA. A pastor who holds BIG secrets and has let the “fame” of ministry go to his head. Your jaw will be on the floor as you’re introduced to all the characters. You’ll be rooting for some and just cringing and wanting to cry over others. God is going to be present and orchestrating an even bigger story and the outcome of this one is simply beautiful.

Oakleigh has never known a way of life other than the private jets, Escalades, glitz and glamour that have come with her father pastoring his megachurch. She’s wildly popular on social media and everyone expects perfection from her and the entire family. Secrets run so very deep though and she’s at her wits end trying to keep up this fake persona as she watches the congregants of the church being lied to each week. It takes one little party and a bit too much alcohol one night for Oakleigh to wind up with loose lips – exposing some of these secrets that wind up caught on camera and go viral. Damage control shows up in full effect and her parents ship her off to Montana to live with her Aunt Maeve as her family tries to cover up and deny all that she had exposed.

The Cali girl winds up thrust into the exhausting and dirty everyday life of a true rancher. Although she’s been fed stories all her life of her Aunt Maeve being the black sheep of the family, Oakleigh soon comes to realize that Maeve is perhaps the most normal of the bunch. She experiences true love, compassion and Jesus for the very first time in her life. She has big decisions to make. I had a fantastic time reading about this life-changing turning point in her life and I’m very much looking forward to continuing in this series. I appreciate an author who isn’t afraid to tackle gritty topics, yet can weave in true elements of faith into the story as well.

This is on my list of top 5 favorite Christian fiction books. It’s such a beautiful story of finding Jesus in unexpected places. Oakleigh loses everything she thought she needed to find everything that actually gives her life purpose. And Aunt Maeve is one of those characters you think about long after the book is over. It’s for coffee lovers and romance enthusiasts, people with complex family dynamics, those maybe healing from mega-church hurt. You will not be disappointed!!!

I’ve got high standards for books. I need to be hooked within 20 pages. I was hooked on this book and I’m a little sad it’s over! Heartwarming, romantic, suspenseful and dramatic at times, but overall just a story about a young woman finding the love of Christ in some unexpected places. Beautifully written, wonderful debut!!

☀️🐂🌱🤠🌱🐂☀️

I don't think I've ever read a book that's made me want to rip out fistfuls of my hair one second and the next has me grinning like a lunatic and praising the Lord. Until this one.

I'm being completely serious. Did I finish this book, or did this book finish me?

Boundless is the first in a series of three books and follows Oakleigh Davenport (an r/tragedeigh name if I've ever seen one). She's the eldest daughter of a renowned megachurch pastor, and has become quite famous herself as a social media influencer. On the outside, she lives the perfect life of luxury, has a God-fearing and loving family, and is a strong and faithful Christian. But in reality, her parents cheat on each other, the family dynamic is tense and unloving, and the only time she feels close to God is when she's surfing.
After a video of Oakleigh exposing her parents' infidelity in a drunken tirade is posted online, she is exiled to her estranged aunt Maeve's ranch in Montana. In the midst of messy farm chores, depression and a loss of purpose, and a developing relationship with a cowboy named Crew, Oakleigh learns to find her true identity and worth in Jesus Christ, and learns to use her influence for good.

I'll be entirely honest: this book was frustrating. Oakleigh isn't always a likeable character. She often comes across as selfish and entitled, and just plain mean. But I was surprised at how often I felt convicted for judging her. She deals with a lot of bitterness and pain, and she is a classic example of how the environment we are raised in shapes us for better or worse, and how hurt people hurt people. It was lovely to see her grow in her faith and as a person throughout the book, while also still having a long way to go. It was a refreshing reminder that while Jesus saves and transforms lives, change is often a slow process. We are being sanctified and worked on until the end of time. I liked her relationship with Crew, aside from the fact that it was basically instalove. He is a total sweetheart though and I liked seeing Oakleigh come to terms with the way she'd been treated in a past toxic relationship. I also loved Maeve. She's a woman with hurt and pain of her own, and she's dealing with grief after losing her husband Abel in an accident. Her backstory made me so so sad and angry at the ways the Church, and Christians in general, deal with such situations. I believe we've come a long way but we still have a long way to go. May the Lord give us all grace and wisdom in handling these things.

This story deals with so many hard topics but handles them with love and care. I was immensely grateful to read of the Lord's love and forgiveness throughout the story, which was so well-written and not preachy at all. I'm always so thrilled to find genuinely good Christian fiction, and I hope to continue the series soon! Highly recommend :)

🙌🏾Redemption
👥found family
✝️Strong faith elements
☕️ Coffee shop

My thoughts: 💭
First in emojis: 😒😭😭😭😭😤😤😇🥳🙌🏾

Now in words:
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book!

I enjoyed getting to know the Davenport family. We follow our FMC Oakleigh as she makes some mistakes but is pushed aside for pride, greed and ignorance! Her father is a Pastor of a large mega church but they hold unrealistic expectations of their family(not Biblical at all). When Oakleigh “vents” it goes viral and things hit the fan.

I appreciate the way the author shows the flaws of all the characters. No one is left untouched in this redemption story.

Enter the disowned aunt 🤠:

Oakleighs aunt ran away from home due the same pressures that Oakleigh has faced. Her backstory made me cry(remember no spoilers 🤭). Aunt Maeve had the patience of a saint while she helped Oakleigh navigate her relationships, recovery and even her love.

Oakleigh finds love, hope, peace and meaning on the ranch. She makes decisions that will tick you off but her heart is pure(towards the end). She knew better so she did better.

I really enjoyed this read and I’m proud to have it on my shelf.

I really enjoyed this easy read. It is one of those books you are excited to read and sad to say goodbye to the characters. Hopefully there will be more books about Oakleigh’s family and friends. I will add to this review, don’t let the cover keep you from reading the book. The cover fits the book and Oakleigh.

“Know your worth, Oakleigh. Jesus died for you so that you could live free. When you are tempted to believe the lies that you have been taught, that you are a failure, not worthy, and have stepped too far away, I want you to remember that God’s love is unfailing, and his grace is boundless.”

Wow! I was not expecting to be so blown away when I picked this amazing book up but here I am, wanting to read it all over again! It’s a good thing there are still two more books in this series.
In the beginning of this book, Oakleigh was so broken. However, although I found her character sometimes hard to like, she also felt so realistic and I was rooting for her heart to change all the way through. By the end of the book, I had a special place for her and her journey in my heart & I am excited to see how her faith grows in the next 2 books.
I loved Callaway ranch and everyone in it - Maeve, Dallas, Sawyer, Crew, it was so fun and I love the found family aspect of this story. I want Mia and Oakleigh’s sisters to join them there. 😊
The faith was so strong and genuine, the romance was so lovely and clean, And the messages were so needed and true.
Excited to read book 2! 😍❤️

I was expecting a romance but got SO MUCH MORE! This book surprised me because it dealt with an aspect of Christianity that so many of us can relate to! You’re just going to have to read the book to find out. I promise you, you’ll keep the pages turning!

From the beaches and high life of California to the sweeping plains and mountains of Montana you will be confronted with honesty, grace and understanding along with condescending attitudes and some general loathing 😂 There are familiar small town aesthetics and personalities, bull riding cowboys, a coffee shop with the best cinnamon rolls, realistic consequences and hard lessons learned. Truly, you’ll find someone or something to connect with in here!

My personal favorite is Aunt Maeve and I would love to come live at her Callaway Ranch and enjoy a cup of cowboy coffee with her! Some of the small town characters I could recognize from my own small town experiences and it made me feel right at home in this story. It was easy to picture the landscape and other settings.

Well done clean read! I’m hoping for more from this!

Sadly I couldn’t stick this one out.
It started out strong though maybe a little cliche. As it went the character’s journey got to feeling too easy—like she didn’t have to struggle through the change she’d supposedly made in her life.
That combined with ranch details that aren’t true on any sizable ranch, let alone a Montana one and I just couldn’t stay hitched.

Can I just tell you how much I loved this book!?! It is one I'm going to be thinking about for a very long time. Maeve is such an awesome character who steers this story and demonstrates what authentic faith looks like. She helps to turn the unlikable Oakleigh into someone I want to know and be friends with.

This is absolutely the best book I've read all summer! I 👏 want 👏 more 👏!

WARNING to anyone who has ever dealt with depression. I love when authors don’t shy away from hard topics. It’s refreshing. However, if you’re going to have hard topics in a book please handle them with care. The MC was said to be depressed and a shower, getting dressed and doing one day of work cured her. That is a dangerous thing to say and I almost put the book down because of it but was curious. Depression wasn’t a main issue in the book but I feel a warning is warranted in how flippantly it was dealt with. If you deal with depression don’t let anyone brush you off, seek professional counseling so you can get proper care.

Other than that, there were some other serious topics that were introduced, then put to the side. I enjoyed Maeve a lot but had a hard time with liking the other characters. There were times I felt bad for Oakley and cheered her on but I couldn’t get around to liking her. I couldn’t really connect with Crew, he was mostly background which is normal for woman’s literature. I think it was that he didn’t seem very Christian to me, just a nice guy and he didn’t help Oakley on her journey. I loved the end and the message that was shown, it was a beautiful theme.

I think this author has a promising career ahead of her and this is solid for a debut.

This was an amazing story of someone raised in a church culture with no substance and a huge platform being stripped from everything and finding real faith and real love. It was beautiful, challenging, swoony, and overall a fantanstic read. This book shows realistic church hurt in all the ways it should be exposed, handled, and how God can heal after it.

I thought this book had a great story line!

I love the redemption and understanding of Jesus’s love that Oakleigh comes to find. This book does a wonderful job showcasing the truth of the gospel and how Jesus wants us to live.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great Christian novel! This book would also be great for a book club and great discussion could come from it!

Thank you to Amy Caldwell for gifting me a copy of her book! This is my honest opinion and all words are my own.

I am looking forward to the sequel!

3.5 rounded up. It was very good i read it in basically one setting. I felt like I wanted more from it, though. Some of the main events happened off-screen , and I felt like I would have connected more to the story if I got to live those moments with the characters. I wanted to connect more with Crew and know more about him. Maeve also was such an interesting character, but I felt detached from her because her moments were told from a letter and a couple of decent flashbacks. Some of the warmth and love of God from the characters and small town feel was there contrasting from the big city and mega church background, but I wanted to be at home in the story. It was so close, but I felt a little disappointed.

I snagged Boundless by Amy Caldwell because I got gifted the book in exchange for an honest review! I read it as a physical book, which was awesome because there were so many incredible nuggets to highlight! I breezed through it in just a couple of days.

Plot
Honestly, this book had me hooked from the get-go. The plot twists and turns were not just there for shock value, they shaped the characters and molded them into amazing personalities that you can't help but cheer for.

Setting
The setting of this book? Absolutely mesmerizing! The charm of the small-town backdrop was like a warm hug, making you want to settle down in a cozy corner and keep on reading. Seriously, if you're anything like me and have a thing for quaint country settings, this small town is the total goal.

The author's descriptions were so well done, I could almost smell the fresh hay, hear the distant whinnying of horses, and feel the tranquility wrapping around me like a soft blanket. It felt like I was right there, amidst all that beauty and serenity.

Now, who could resist a cute, little coffee shop? The one in this book made me yearn for a piping-hot latte.

Characters
What makes this book genuinely sparkle is the character development, particularly that of Oakleigh. Her journey, her transformations, and the challenges she overcomes are so beautifully penned that you can't help but get engrossed in her story.

And let's not forget about the supporting characters! Aunt Maeve, for instance, is just brilliant. She adds a distinct element to the narrative, making it that much more vibrant and dynamic. It's not just a book; it's an experience that you wouldn't want to miss!

As a reader, I was utterly charmed by the sweet romance between Crew and Oakleigh. Their witty exchanges and flirtatious banter added a delightful layer to the narrative, often leaving me grinning from ear to ear.

Themes
This book struck a deep chord within me, particularly due to its unabashed exploration of faith themes. It was like a breath of fresh air to see the author confront these head-on, providing a much-needed lifeline for those navigating similar paths.

As I journeyed with Oakleigh's struggles with church hurt and feelings of worthlessness, I found myself profoundly moved, often to the brink of tears. The depth that the author brought to these themes was simply astounding.

They didn’t just scratch the surface; they dove deep, bringing to light the raw and sometimes painful process of finding one's identity and worth in God.

It was a beautiful reminder that even in our darkest moments, we are not alone and are immeasurably valuable in God's eyes.

Writing Style
The way Amy strings together words just grabs hold of you and pulls you straight into the narrative. It's like you instantly become an honorary member of the characters' inner circle, feeling every joy and heartache right alongside them.

I mean, a week's gone by and I'm still reeling from some of the things they said! And Amy's writing style? It's crisp, vivid, and beautifully detailed.

My thoughts on the book
In wrapping up my thoughts, I have to say this book was nothing short of mind-blowing - a solid 5 out of 5 stars from me. What resonated the most were the unforgettable characters and the depth of their personal journeys.

They were so beautifully fleshed out that I felt emotionally invested, making the book impossible to put down. The treatment of faith as a central theme was also a standout aspect for me.
It's rare to find a book that delves into faith with such honesty and authenticity, and for this reason, this book holds a special place in my heart.

I urge everyone to read this book because it truly is a masterpiece that speaks volumes about life and faith.

Let me start out by saying that the first half of the book had me thinking that this would be a 4-5 star read. Then at 60% I was thinking it would be a three star read as long as I could finish, but at 70% I couldn’t keep going. Things just took on a crazy turn that didn’t feel in sync with what I was expecting to happen and I couldn’t get over it.

There was major potential in this book from the very beginning. I enjoyed the story and the writing, but about halfway through things went from being tense to being solved overnight. Oakleigh and her aunt became bussom buds, but she didn’t apologize for the rude things she said to Maeve. And Crew and O decided to be together before they even had a first date…? As soon as O got a new phone she did all these live feeds without asking people’s permission first, and that made her seem more immature and inconsiderate than ever.

I could go on, but I am in no way trying to be mean. I’m glad I gave this book and author a try, annnd if I have time before my KU free trial runs out I just might give another book in the series a shot. There were some good truthful vibes in here, and if the author keeps honing her craft I see better books in her future.

"When you are tempted to believe the lies that you have been taught, that you are a failure, not worthy, and have stepped too far away, I want you to remember that God's love is unfailing, and his grace is boundless."

I really enjoyed reading this book! I believe it's a story that is sorely needed in our current church culture. Thank you for writing it, Amy! The messages of grace and unwavering love of Christ were so beautiful that they brought me to tears. I highly recommend reading this if you've ever felt irredeemable or have experienced church hurt. Oakley, while a little unlikable at times, was super relatable and realistic. While there were lovely messages of truth, there was also some levity and romance. The plot and writing style really reminded me of Karen Kingsbury's books.

What a beautiful book. It did take me a while to start, I was suffering with my own annoyance at church being all about appearance. Then read chapter 2 with the little coffee shop church and nearly cried.
The journey of the main characters was beautiful, how Oakleigh realises whats actually important to her, that God loves her. Maeve learning to open up and the joy and freedom that gave her. As well it had a satisfying thud at the end when the people who had lied and manipulated got what they deserved but from their own hand.
God is good, all loving and all forgiving. We don't have the right to play Him, and we don't have the right to put our own judgements on others. We have our own walk with Him and this book really showed that, and sometimes we have to leave toxic environments to finally be able to live and breathe that truth.

Thank you for your writing and I do hope you continue in your gifting.

A Must Read!

Great characters and great message but I was surprised there wasn’t more depth.
This one was weird for me.
It has a very deep great message about redemption, grace and love found in Jesus but a lot of times not in the church!
So that was 5 star execution!
It was a great idea and story but I wanted more. The two main characters that get together it’s very superficial. The author definitely missed the chance for them to have some deep conversations or moments that showed us why they liked each other so much.
I also was really disappointed that some of the characters judged Oakleigh but we never saw them talk with her or get to know her. It felt like we hate her she needs to go but there was no follow up to how it changed.
So overall really good but it felt like the message overshadowed actually developing the characters and story.
