Fans of dystopian fiction won’t want to miss this gripping read. Set in a near-future United States under the rule of an autocratic, theocratic regime, the story explores a chilling world where a new national religion has been established. Immigration has been shut down, and non-natural-born citizens are either deported or forced into labor camps. Amid this oppressive landscape, Dr. James Naismith, along with Deanna and Theresa, are on the run, trying to evade the newly formed secret police under the Department of Homeland Security.
When Dr. James graduated from medical school, he never imagined life as a fugitive. Now, with a bounty on his head, he relies on the support of brave individuals who oppose the regime and assist him in treating the wounded. He wants to rescue his sisters in Virginia and make their way to safety in Canada. But the journey is anything but easy, and he’s weary of constantly searching for shelter and security.
The narrative is intense and suspenseful, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The plot twists were unpredictable and kept me eagerly turning the pages. The author’s clear, engaging writing style made this an enjoyable and unforgettable read.
