A serial killer stalks a small town, and a police officer must face her family’s dark past to catch him.

The sleepy community of Kenorapeake Falls in northern Ontario seems like somewhere Constable Oaklynn Brock can finally outrun her violent past. That is, until she’s assigned to investigate a series of suspicious deaths. She can’t reveal that she knows how serial killers think because she grew up with one. Yet the eerie similarities between these murders and those committed by her father, known as the Suicide Slayer, hint at a copycat in their midst. But why here and why now?

Caleb Greene of the Canadian Watchers Squad, a special task force, has his own reasons to be wary of working alongside Oaklynn. But with rumors of a local cult known as the Light Paragons gaining power, the stakes are too high to refuse.

As they explore connections between the killings and cult, Oaklynn and Caleb are forced to confront old secrets…and a terrifying new threat. Someone is watching Oaklynn’s every move. They know exactly who she is and what she might be capable of. And soon her biggest fear isn’t just having her past exposed, but that a killer will turn whatever days she has left into a living nightmare…

CALLING ALL CHRISTIAN SUSPENSE READERS: This is NOT one to miss! Add it to your TBR now. You’ll thank me later.

Darlene L. Turner has a twisty, dark, thriller in store for you. She’ll transport you to the small city of Kenorapeake Falls, Ontario and introduce you to Constable Oaklynn Brock who is currently working on the Suicide Slayer case. Oaklynn and her team are working with Caleb Greene and the Canadian Watchers Squad and are driven to identify the killer and stop the murders. You’ll soon learn that Oaklynn and Caleb are hiding shocking secrets that each other needs to know in order to better serve the team.

This book has dark overtones; after all, it’s centered around a serial killer. However, the author invites the light into the story and shows that despite the darkness rearing its ugly head, the light always reemerges, shining much brighter. She encourages us to be that light for others.

Oaklynn’s character arc is amazing. She’s got so much baggage and struggles to put her faith in a God who allowed all the wickedness she endured. Caleb reminds her that we all have darkness within us, but we need to choose to snuff it out. I loved the imagery of needing to put on God’s armour to fight the evil encroaching Kenorapeake Falls. We need to don the same armour, too.

The inclusion of the serial killer’s point of view added to the tension and knowing his plans and motives before the citizens of Kenorapeake Falls did, made reading intense.

Turner’s focus on cults was eye-opening.

Past child abuse is alluded to, not described and redemption and light is always the focus.

I was gifted this copy by the publisher through NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This is a Romantic Suspense. I read this book by listening to the audiobook, and I loved the narrator. This book pulled me into the story from the beginning, and I really did not want to put it down. I loved all the action/suspense and seeing all the secrets being revealed/drama. I loved all the characters. There was so much put into this book, and it was done so well. Loved it. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

I feel this is one of Darlene Turner's best-written books. The characters are multilayered, and the storyline left me breathless. This is not your average suspense novel; the psychological aspect added lots of tension. I also loved the instances of prayers and forgiveness that balance out the darkness and light in the story.

It is a wild roller-coaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering who the killer is. I never did figure it out and was surprised by the twists and turns that led me to an amazing ending that wrapped everything up nicely. Despite everything else that was going on, there was a budding romance brewing—highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

If you’ve enjoyed Jessica Patch’s books, this one will be right up your alley. It’s a Criminal Minds-style thriller with a strong thread of Christian faith running through it.

Oaklynn Brock is a police constable with a chilling secret—she’s the daughter of a notorious serial killer. When he dies, a twisted protégé picks up where he left off. Oaklynn is assigned to the case, and brought in to work alongside the Watchers Squad, a consulting group that deals with high-profile crimes. One of them, Caleb, a former special forces operative with experience in cults, brings a unique insight to the case. He quickly senses that Oaklynn is hiding something—and when the killer finds out who she really is, the danger escalates for them both.

Both Oaklynn and Caleb carry immense trauma and suffering. At times, I felt those wounds were brushed past a bit too quickly, as I’m always curious to see how characters process their emotions and pain. That said, Caleb’s faith in Christ is strong and steady, while Oaklynn’s journey is raw, slow, and very real. I appreciated getting to know these characters and seeing how they grew and healed through the story.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Darlene L. Turner, and Harlequin Audio for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Always looking for new and exciting authors, I turned to Darlene L. Turner and this novel. A serial killer stalks a small Ontario town and sends everyone into a tizzy, none more than Consesble Oaklynn Brock. Sitting on a secret of her own, Brock tries to determine if this is a copycat of a killer who is behind bars or a new criminal who is using past crimes to lure the authorities out to play a game. In a chilling story with religious undertones, Darlene L. Turner spins a story that is well worth the reader’s attention.

After a rocky past, Constable Oaklynn Brock is happy to have found the bucolic community of Kenorapeake Falls. The small Ontario community is sure to help cleanse Oaklynn from her violent past. All of a sudden, she’s sent to investigate some deaths that ring a bell for her. While the victims appear to have committed suicide, Constable Brock sees something everyone is missing; the tell-tale sign of a known serial killer. While no one knows her secret, Constable Brock grew up with a serial killer for a father who is now behind bars. These killings mirror those of her father’s, making it seem as though there is a copycat on the loose, one who knows who she is and may target her as well.

Caleb Greene emerges to help on the case. He is part of the Canadian Watchers Squad, a unique task force with some intel that could blow the case wide open. Caleb is wary of working alongside Constable Brock, but must put that aside to ensure the killer is found. A new and powerful religious cult has been gaining membership in the area. The Light Paragons have been casting a wide net and finding new interest with each post they may to the unsuspecting locals.

As the parallels between the killings and the cult continue, Constable Brock works with Caleb to pinpoint their next move. Both are sitting on secrets they cannot allow to get out, but are also growing closer to one another. Constable Brock is being tracked and it is only a matter of time before this copycat killer will haunt her in ways her father could not finish all those years ago. Darlene L. Turner brings a chilling story to life with this novel that I can only hope will expand into a series.

Discovering a new author can often prove highly entertaining for me, especially when they write well and contribute to a genre I enjoy. Darlene L. Turner creates a strong idea that pits a serial killer against a member of law enforcement in a small Canadian community. The narrative builds with ease and offers great themes, both criminal and religious. The characters show themselves as well-developed and multi-dimensional, adding depth to an already great story. The plot points are able to create an alluring piece, while also adding a religious aspect for those who find this important. Darlene L. Turner has a knack for keeping the story edgy and left me wondering where things are headed next.

Kudos, Madam Turner, for this scintillating story.

Echoes of Darkness is an unputdownable psychological thriller filled with drama, dark secrets, faith, and a bit of romance. A captivating storyline with brilliantly placed twists, compelling characters, and suspenseful pacing quickly snared me into the narrative and effectively kept me invested and reading intently to the end. Both Oaklynn and Caleb are burdened with traumatic pasts that they must revisit, embrace, and heal from to help them stop a copycat serial killer. I appreciate the strong light of faith that shines through the darkness of the criminal mind. Also, Caleb's resolute faith is an encouraging inspiration as Oaklynn's faith wavers. The challenging blossoming romance adds another layer of emotional interest to the narrative. I totally enjoyed this story and would love to see future books like this featuring some of the other Canadian Watcher Squad "family" members.

This novel is an absolute treasure for anyone who loves a beautifully crafted blend of suspense, mystery, and heartfelt emotion. 🔍✨ The small, seemingly tranquil town of Kenorapeake Falls hides dark secrets beneath its peaceful surface, and the story masterfully unravels these layers with finesse. The protagonist, Constable Oaklynn Brock, is such a compelling character—her quiet resilience and inner strength shine through as she navigates the shadows of her past while confronting a cunning serial killer. 🖤🔪

What truly captivated me was the way the story explores themes of family, identity, and the lingering effects of trauma. Oaklynn's past ties to a notorious killer, the Suicide Slayer, add a haunting depth that lingers long after each chapter. The suspense is palpable, especially as she and Caleb Greene from the Canadian Watchers Squad delve into a mysterious cult called the Light Paragons, whose growing influence threatens to engulf everything. The tension between uncovering the truth and protecting loved ones is woven seamlessly into the narrative, making every page a thrill to read. 💫🌿

The chemistry between Oaklynn and Caleb is subtly charming, adding a touch of warmth and hope amidst the darkness. Their journey is as much about confronting external threats as it is about facing their own inner demons. The story’s eerie atmosphere, combined with moments of vulnerability and courage, creates a captivating reading experience that keeps you hooked from start to finish. 💖🔐

I absolutely loved how the author delves into the complexities of human nature and the courage it takes to confront one’s past. This book is a beautifully crafted reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is strength to be found—and sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is face our fears head-on. 🌟✨

If you’re a fan of thrilling mysteries with a touch of femininity, emotional depth, and a sprinkle of suspense, I wholeheartedly recommend this captivating story. It’s a mesmerizing journey into the shadows that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. 📚💕

Darlene L. Turner (Love Inspired Suspense) steps confidently into full-length fiction with Echoes of Darkness (Love Inspired Trade), an exploration of childhood trauma, survival, and the call to forgive. Constable Oaklynn Brock, once Lynn Jenna Crowder, renamed herself as a child to escape her father’s shadow—the notorious Suicide Slayer. Now in Kenorapeake Falls, she faces a copycat killer, forcing her to grapple with a haunting fear: “Only she could stop them, but first she had to go to a place she’d tried hard to avoid—her father’s serial killer mind.” Teamed with Caleb Greene of the Canadian Watchers Squad, she unravels a cult’s dark influence.

Turner’s pacing is deliberate, layering suspense with an overt Christian lens—Oaklynn battles doubts about God, while Caleb’s steady faith offers a counterpoint. The cult and serial killer threads are compelling, though the perpetrator’s reveal lacks surprise. As a reader who enjoys the Love Inspired Trade line, I appreciated Turner’s shift to deeper storytelling. I would caution that there is an allusion to past child abuse. Echoes of Darkness is a thoughtful story about overcoming evil’s legacy, and I look forward to reading more from this evolving author. (I received a complimentary audiobook for review purposes; all opinions are my own.)

Constable Oaklynn Brock is the daughter of a serial killer and an abuse victim herself. She entered the police force to catch those responsible for horrible crimes. Caleb is part of a civilian group tasked by the Mayor to assist the police in figuring out what is going on in their community and putting a stop to it. There appears to be a copycat serial killer in the community who is taunting and targeting Oaklynn. Both Caleb and Oaklynn having issues from their pasts that are hitting very close to home with this case. Can they work together to stop the person or people responsible before others or themselves get hurt? This was dark and creepy at times as the case involves a serial killer, a cult, and drugs. In the midst of the darkness though there is a light and quite a bit of conversation about God and faith. I enjoyed the friendships and family support portrayed, along with a bit of humor from a matchmaking teen. It is filled with twists and turns, light verses dark and overcoming struggles with God's help. I had no idea who was responsible and was along for the ride trying to figure it out.

I read this 346 page book in record time.
I couldn’t put it down, reading into the wee hours of the morning! Oaklynn is the daughter of a serial killer but is keeping the information “close to her vest”. Then a copycat killer mimics her dead father’s dirty deeds. She is part of a team put together to find this madman. Caleb, a former member of a cult, is also on the case. Bodies start dropping and the hairs start standing on end for Oaklynn as each location is investigated. How will they prove a “new” cult is involved in the murders? A heart pounding story that kept me guessing until the end. It will be a novel I’ll be thinking about for a long time! I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author but was not required to write a review.

This was sooooo good!! I didn't know who the copycat was until Oaklynn said his name. I had some ideas, but boy, were they wrong!! Oaklynn turned her own father in for murder. Now, there's a copycat, and Oaklynn and Caleb are forced to join forces to find the killer and bring the murders to a stop. Oaklynn also finds out about a secret her mother kept from her, and hopes to be able to solve that, too. Caleb was involved in a cult for a while, which is why he's now joining forces to find the copycat, as they feel that cult, The Light Paragons, are involved. Caleb has baggage, just as Oaklynn does, and both learn that they have to forgive what they thought was unforgivable in order for them to truly move on. Caleb has given his life to God, and now finds out just how freeing forgiving the person who wronged him can be. Oaklynn realizes she's really been running from God, and once she truly embraces Him, and forgives her father, she realizes that she's really free, too. Is it too late for them when trouble comes even closer??

Echoes of Darkness by Darlene Turner is a riveting, fast-paced story filled with all kinds of twists and turns. Oaklynn Brock is a constable and while she might work in a small town, she carries a big secret. A copy cat serial killer is on the loose and is targeting Oaklynn because the killer knows her secret - that she's the daughter of the infamous Suicide Slayer. Caleb Green is part of a group called the Canadian Watchers Squad, and he's called in to help with the case. But he finds himself facing off with the past he thought he'd left behind.

This book ticks all the marks for me to be a thriller. I didn't know who the culprit was until the very end, and the story kept me guessing the whole way through. Oaklynn faced so many dangerous moments throughout the story as the killer stalked her. I will admit that I don't like stories involving cults (just one of the topics/tropes I don't prefer), and while Echoes of Darkness involves a cult, I still completely enjoyed the story and the cult added another dimension to the danger. I like the budding romance between Oaklynn and Caleb and that they helped each other deal with their past traumas. Also, I love the concept of the Canadian Watchers Squad and I hope to see other characters from the team have their own story lines.

If you are looking for a fast-paced thrilling read, look no further than Echoes of Darkness. This is one of my top favorites for my summer time must-read list!

Definitely a story that will scare you! It is a look into the workings of a serial killer and a cult. Many twists, turns, surprises, and much evil.

I like Caleb; he has seen much, felt much, hurt much, and let God change him completely. Although tough, he carries compassion with him in seeking justice for the helpless. He has a deep faith in God.

Oaklynn’s story is heart breaking. How much loss, pain, and darkness she has endured. But she does find her from the depths of darkness into the light of God’s salvation.

They face much danger and evil but overcome it by God’s grace. They do get a happy ending. I received a complimentary copy from the author and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

I LOVE the Love Inspired Suspense Trade books, and Echoes of Darkness, author Darlene Turner's first foray into this trade line, is a smasher!
Meet Constable Oaklynn Brock. She had her reasons for transferring from the big city to a smaller environment. Now, investigating murders made to look like suicides (something eerily similar to her past), she's forced to work with Caleb Green. He's part of the Canadian Watchers Squad, a civilian group dedicated to aiding law enforcement. They've got to find and stop a serial killer.
This book is like heading down a pitch black underground tunnel, nothing but the sounds of water dripping and rats scurrying nearby. But then there's that pinhole of light up ahead. The Lord leading Oaklynn and Caleb to safety in Him, helping them both work through past traumas and emotional burdens. The mystery and suspense in Echoes of Darkness writhes like a sinuous snake. You don't know what direction you'll be led to next! I really enjoyed it, plus it has my favorite, an epilogue!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

My goodness.. Darlene Turner’s books keep getting better and better. If you love a good “who done it mystery” this is a book you don’t want to miss.

A Christian author whom has interesting characters touching on so many evils in the world. Child abuse and murder, drugs and cults are woven through out the book as darkness turns into light.

In a small town of Kenorapeake Falls Canada, Constable Oaklynn Brock along with the help of Caleb Greene, a Watcher with a special task force is determined to find a “serial killer”. Oaklynn has had personal experience that has left her vulnerable and questioning her own life. Caleb has his own secrets. Will they be able to work through these in order to stop this killing before they become the next victim?

Echos of Darkness, what can I say about this book but wow!!
There's a serial killer on the loose and Constable Oaklynn Brock is searching for someone who is copying her serial killer father's patterns. Known as the Suicide Slayer, her father was put in prison on her testimony. But changing her name and moving has her in the copycat's crosshairs.
Caleb Greene of the special task force, the Canadian Watchers Squad, is brought in to help along with the rest of his team. Because not only is there a copycat killer, but a very dangerous cult is targeting the young people of the town. With old secrets from their pasts haunting them both, Caleb and Oaklynn must work together to stop the cult and the serial killer.
This book was a real page-turner. It drew me in and kept me reading. Every time I thought I had the killer figured out, I was wrong. But in the end when the killer was revealed, mind-blowing!!

ECHOES OF DARKNESS by Darlene L. Turner is the amazing, edge of your seat story of Constable Oaklynn Brock and Caleb Greene, member of the Canadian Watchers Squad, as they join forces to find and stop a Suicide Slayer copycat and learn about the new religious movement in town.

Oaklynn knows first-hand about serial killers having grown up with one. Her father was a serial killer of eight women including Oaklynn’s mother. This evil man would visit her room at night too. Oaklynn helped to put him behind bars as a teenager, where years later he took his own life. Trying to erase her past, at 18 she had legally changed her name and moved away. If it hadn’t been for her aunt’s influence and religious beliefs, Oaklynn hates to think what her life would be like. She loves living in this small town where she was readily accepted and only two know her past. They would never maliciously hurt her.

Caleb Green was special forces in the military, has a psychology degree and first-hand knowledge in different “religious” groups. His adopted father, formed the Canadian Watchers Squad with his daughter and the children he calls his own. They have additional skills in white-hat hacker, sniper, criminologist, survivalist, firefighter/preacher. Their motto - TO GO WHERE NO ONE ELSE WILL, along with pressure from the mayor, was the reason they were hired to help find the copycat murderer and information about the local group – The Lighthouse Paragons. They to be pulling people in with the motto of “The Light Paragons – join us and spread God’s Light.”

Are the bodies found suicides or actually murders? Is it possible that someone is mimicking the Suicide Slayer? Will Oaklynn’s history with Caleb’s friend affect their working connection? Will the constables work with the CWS or will there be resentment for their interfering? Who else knows Oaklynn’s past? Who is sending her presents as reminders? Can Oaklynn admit to her connection to the Suicide Slayer in her own way or will it be taken out of her hands? Will her insight into the Suicide Slayer, help shed light into possible next moves of The Protégé? Can Caleb survive going undercover into this new group? Can Oaklynn and Caleb heal from their individual pasts in order for a possible future together? Or will The Protégé fulfill his plans for Lynny?

ECHOES OF DARKNESS is an exceptional story that pulls you in for an amazing ride through the pages. Darlene L. Turner gives us a story of learning to let go, forgiveness, suspense, daring to trust, the bloom of romance, taking chances and wraps it in an amazing thread of faith. Once you start reading, prepare yourself to read straight through because you won’t be able to put it down. ECHOES OF DARKNESS is a FIVE STAR story that I can highly recommend to everyone!

I received this book as an ARC with no expectations of a positive review. WOW! Ms. Turner has written a suspenseful book that has blown me away. There were times I had to put the book off to the side and come back to it. The story of Oaklynn and Caleb is so well written. The baggage we all carry around is hard to describe. Both Oaklynn has baggage of being the daughter of a serial killer as well as an abuse victim. Caleb has dwelt with scares from being in the military as well as the death of his only child by his wife driving drunk. Can these two work together to bring down a serial killer who is killing in the same way as Oaklynn's father. This book will keep you turning the pages and not wanting to miss a single word. It i a must read for all suspense fans.

Y'all! I absolutely loved this fast-paced, dark, and twisty romantic thriller. I was immediately pulled in and glued to the pages, reading as fast as I could. I was hooked from the first sentence to the last. It’s a definite contender for book of the year.

I really liked Oaklynn. She's the daughter of the infamous Suicide Slayer, and with a copycat making their presence known, her unique insights into a serial killer's mind could be a huge advantage in finding and stopping this dangerous imitator. I was cheering her on in her high-stakes quest!

I also really liked Caleb. He had some secrets and a dark past of his own, but I loved seeing how he'd overcome it. He and Oaklynn made a great team.

The mystery of who the copycat was had me stumped! I thought I had it figured out several times, but nope! I was completely shocked by the reveal!

While this book tackles some dark subjects, I really appreciated that there was light and hope amidst it all. I loved the strong message of faith and how you could see God's goodness shining despite it all.

This book would make a great TV show! I loved it and highly, highly recommend it! If you’re a fan of Jessica Patch’s twisty thrillers, you’ll love this book!

So intense! The ending left me breathless, and the journey for the characters was pulse pounding.

Oakland and Caleb both harbor deep secrets and it interferes with the investigation and their partnership.

She’s the daughter of a notorious serial killer, which allows her to understand how they think. But when it becomes obvious there’s a copycat to her father’s crimes, will her insight help or hinder?

He escaped the hold of a dangerous cult and is assigned the case because of apparent ties to a new cultish threat. Can he go back into the darkness to find the truth or will it take him under for the final time?

The intensity of the book is beyond most of what I’ve read before—on par with Jessica R. Patch for sure. The realism will send chills down your spine and I advise reading with the lights on!

Be advised: talk of many kinds of abuse, suicide, murder, and other topics are within the pages, but the light of hope shines bright!

I received an advance copy from the publisher. My review has not been solicited and I’m under no obligation. Highly recommended!
