Kings of Castlebrook #2

Pucking Possessive

Rate this book
Callum Grey has been obsessed with Lilac Fairbanks for as long as he can remember. She’s the one girl he can’t have because she's his best friend’s little sister, but he’ll do anything to keep her safe. His bad-boy reputation is meant to deceive everyone, because he’s been protecting her in secret all along.

One reckless dare takes a deadly turn when Callum and Lilac break into the mansion on the cliffs and witness a murder that puts a target on them. With everyone pointing fingers, Lilac’s parents try to leverage the scandal to trap her in a marriage with a guy who makes her skin crawl. Callum offers her a way out: a public proposal that will create a distraction from the night on the cliffs and ruin her mother’s plans in one stroke.

Agreeing to a fake engagement comes with a price. Callum has rules: they’ll act like a real couple, whether they’re in public or not. Lilac quickly discovers that her first crush who taught her how to skate all those years ago has a new favorite game that involves a mask and chasing her through the graveyard. When their friends begin turning up dead, Lilac quickly realizes that this engagement is anything but fake to Callum, and there isn’t anyone he wouldn’t cross to protect her.

Kings of Castlebrook are elite hockey legacies born to cause trouble on and off the ice. Please read Pucking Possessive with caution as it contains dark themes, and please note that this book is not enemies to lovers and there is no malice/darkness between the main characters.

‎⤷ When he's her brother's best friend

‎⤷ When he has scars on his back
‎‎
‎⤷ ‎When he makes pinky promises with her

‎⤷ When he has taught her skating

‎⤷ When they are both inexperienced

‎⤷ When his hands tremble while touching her

‎⤷ When he cums in his pants just by going down on her

‎⤷ When he tells her they should fake date and then proposes her infront of the whole stadium (it’s real for him)

"Kiss me, Lilac. Kiss me like I’m your fiancé."

Bonus:

CALLUM THE MAN THAT YOU ARE 😭🤌🏼

This man created the trope of the obsessed, possessive hero. He was SO devoted to Lilac and said the sweetest things 😭😭😭😭 Reading his POV was a delight and a little healing balm for my heart. I just want to wrap myself in that kind of soft, fluffy love.

Every time he said or did something sweet, I’d think… “there’s no way he can top this,” and then HE DID. London Snow, you’re raising that bar!!!

Btw, i love London’s writing. It feels like home. Does that make sense? But really, i feel so at home when i read her. There’s something about her that makes me feel so comfortable while reading.

I don’t want to spoil the story, so I won’t go into details, but you should know it’s 100% safe. Absolutely everyone should give it a chance, this is the kind of romance we need in the market 🙂‍↕️✋🏼

The author said on IG that Callum is a VIRGIN. Two virgins mmc in a row in one series, what the hell is this? My lucky day?!

We on this account LOVE VIRGINS MMC and if London wants all heroes to be, SHE HAS MY ABSOLUTE SUPPORT. I've got your back, girl.

4.5 now-THAT'S-what-l'm-talking-about stars

When I read about an obsessed hero, this is what I mean 👀: a man who only has eyes for the heroine, is faithful whether or not they're together, and will do whatever it takes to not only protect her, but be with her 👏🏻. Add in that he's a virgin?

Ufffff😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨. Give me give me 🫠.

Not like these other "heroes" who claim to love the heroine 🙄 yet they be pollinating more than a busy, bee colony during the spring 😑

The only pollen, or honey, that he should be collecting is the one from the heroine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Callum (no age was given 😐), hockey player, has been wanting Lilac (no age was given for her either) ever since he could remember. And like the king he is, he’s remained a virgin for her 🥹. The issue here is that he has a reputation 😬 AND his best friend happens to be Lilac’s brother 😅. But he’s been bidding his time, waiting, and now’s the time for him to claim what’s always been his 💁🏻‍♀️.

Lilac’s family wants her to get engaged 😒 but she doesn’t want to. So Callum “volunteers” (bahahah more like volunTELLS 💀) himself to be her “fake” fiancé 😅 and she easily accepts 💁🏻‍♀️. That way her family gets off her back AND she can spend time with the guy she’s been eyeing 👀.

One day, Lilac’s ice skating friends decide they wanna visit an abandoned house that’s basically haunted. A bunch of girls, the one male skater, and some other guys, Callum included, go. But what they don’t count on is the fact that not everyone is gonna get out of there alive 😬.

And as their lives are being threatened, one by one girls are being killed that were there that day ☹️. But Callum isn’t gonna let anything happen to Lilac 🫶🏻.

He’s gonna protect her with his life and he has to 🤷🏻‍♀️.

What I LOOOOOOOVED: POSSIBLE SPOILERS
—how OTT Callum is 😉. Yaaaassss. Ain’t nobody gonna try to take his woman from him 💁🏻‍♀️

—how protective her is 🫶🏻You protect your queen 👏🏻 from other people (including her family) and anything that tries to harm her ❤️

—the 🔥. Ufffff. Lawd 😮‍💨. He might’ve been a v, but he’s acting like he’s been doing it longer than he’s been alive 🤣. His refractory period ain’t no joke 🥵. He KNOWS what he’s doing 😉 and Lilac’s reaping ALLLLL the benefits 🫠. Once they have their first REAL kiss at about 25%, they start exploring each other more 🔥 and lots of mouth down below action by the mid 30% and full 🔥 before 50% 👏🏻

—let’s just say, Callum’s D’s fave spot in staying inside her V 🤷🏻‍♀️. Like. All night 😅

—and he loves having a hearty breakfast 😉 he’s a cereal eater 💦🥵and is obsessed with her nips 🔥

—breeeeeding 🫠if my calculations are correct, she should’ve been pregnant since before they had full 🔥 lol🤣🤣🤣

—he calls her Bambi 🥹

—the side characters ❤️. I love that, even though I haven’t read the previous book, I got to enjoy other couples happily ever afters 🫶🏻. That just means that I need to go read some books 🤷🏻‍♀️. And I really, really, really can’t wait until the next one comes out 👀. The snippet at the end has me intrigued 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

—how obsessed they are with each other 👀. Sure, Callum put a tracker in lilac, but she’s just as obsessed as he is 😉

—how close the friends are 🫶🏻. I love that they can rely on each other ❤️

—bad guys don’t deserve to live 🤷🏻‍♀️. Comeuppance at its finest 💁🏻‍♀️

What I didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—the biggest thing that bothered me was the lack of empathy when it came to all the deaths happening 😐. The first death we witness was pretty traumatic; in fact, my tummy even turned because of how callous the murderer was with Lilac’s friend as he was killing her. Now, as a reader, if I was traumatized, I can’t even imagine what the characters in the book were feeling. But the story just kept moving forward, and more and more girls kept getting murdered, and even one of the guys, and very little was done to resolve this IN MY EYES. Yes, I love, LOVE, how protective Callum was, but I just needed more here 🤷🏻‍♀️(Which leads me to…)

—the nine dead bodies of the girls at the end of the book: it felt so wrong that they decided to just burn the house down instead of finding a way of figuring out who these dead girls were and do something more for them 😐. What literally happens: side character comes back and tells the main characters that there are nine bodies of girls in the house (after they figured out WHODUNIT) all dead. Main characters and side characters take care of the murderers, and then decide to burn the house down along with the murderers’ bodies. Ummm. Excuse me? What about the victims? 🤷🏻‍♀️ these are people’s daughters, sisters, friends, whatever happened to them 😐 ?
^^^^THAT bothered me the most. I was sure that this was gonna be a solid five star read, but I just couldn’t ignore the fact that we don’t get told anything about all these victims 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t know, maybe they could’ve buried them? Told the authorities? Figured out who they were so that their families could have some closure? SOMETHING!!!! Gah. Come on!!!

—Lilac’s brother 🫶🏻. Did he really have to die? While I get that he wasn’t the best brother, what we saw in the book didn’t show him as a terrible brother 🤷🏻‍♀️. We don’t even know their ages, but if they’re in their late teens or early 20s, they don’t always make the best decisions. Sigh. And then Lilac decides not to tell her parents and let them think that her brother is out exploring the world? It just doesn’t make sense.

— they’re in college, but we never see them go to class or talk about professors or anything related to college 😬. While I get that college is not their entire lives, if it’s a college romance, I’d expect to see some scenes in the classrooms 😅

—Callum doesn’t tell her I love you until the VERY end (like the epilogue) 😑. Sigh 😒 lol

—what are their ages!!!! 😭😭😭😭

Overall, I still very much loved this book, but just didn’t like how it ended when it came to the overall plot 😅

Dual Virgins!!!

London Snow is serving us safe, romantic novels since book one.

This series is entirely safe so far based on my standards. If I remembered correctly, there is not much ow nor om drama, and if there is, it is completely unwanted.

I hope she continues giving as dual v nor safe reads as she continues to grow on her craft.

I admit, I've reached this book and unfortunately the writing style is not for me. the spice in this series was well, somewhat abrupt. Not that descriptive, I felt like it finishes as soon as it started. At least that was what it felt like for me.

Also, I've mentioned before that I have noticed how a lot of authors struggle to find individuality in each book when writing a series in terms of characterisation and plotline. I think, it is kinda happening here too but at the same time i felt like it is intentional in a way.

Book one is okay, but the mmc here is like a carbon copy of the mmc on book one. I understand that they are meant to be written in the same font; possessive, obsessive, however, the repetitiveness is a lot more visible like they are a single character, and this book is a canon fanfic of book one. it is a bit formulaic, like the author is following a pattern.

Now, I would definitely understand if it is parallels. I love it when authors apply parallels in their series.

Characterisation is very important for me especially in a series. No matter how formulaic a plotline is, if a character has an individuality, I would definitely be able to single them out in a crowd. They'd be unforgettable in a way, and easily recognizable. And I've read a lot of series in which authors struggle with it but it is understandable tbh, writing is well ... hard. :>

Anyway, even though the writing style is not for me, I am still anticipating her future works especially the ones under this series because well, she writes safe romance novels with ott j/p mmcs, exactly my type. :>

★★★★. Thank you to the author London and smuthood for the ARC! There was no doubt in my mind this book wouldn’t be a 4 to 5 read. Another possessive, obsessed man who saves himself FULLY for the love of his life that he’s known his whole life?

Callum and Lilac were everything. I loved their relationship and how it was built. Reading Callum be so obsessed with Lilac to the point where he would kill other men just for speaking to her. Lilac being a brat when she can to get a rise out of him, 10/10. The little angst that came with this when Lilac thought everything Callum was doing was just for her safety and his friendship with her brother. Hurt so much. She could not be more wrong! That man was getting his wife no matter what.

The little mystery plot was done so well. I liked how London continues a mystery in the books and it’s not just a straight dark hockey romance. While there still is hockey in the books, she adds other plots to it and doesn’t leave them hanging. The found family in this series is everything. Each character has their own personality and the way she brings them all together plus how they all care for each other, amazing.

tristanwinter, I NEED YOU IN MY HANDS NOW. All the crumbs, ugh amazing. I love them so much. Everyone recognizing the love and soulmatism they have with one another. 100/10.

For my safety people, completely safe. Callum had this playboy persona from the last book, however he is a virgin. He went around creating these rumors for a reason. He never even kissed anyone before Lilac. Lilac is a virgin. No other woman drama. A little other man drama in the sense that Callum gets jealous whenever a man speaks to Lilac.

“I’m not glad for everything we’ve been through," he says quietly when our lips part, brushing my hair back from my face. "But I’m thankful it brought us here. To this. To you being mine."
I smile, letting my forehead rest against his. "I’ve always been yours, cowboy.”

Ahhhh, it was so so so good!! I still can’t believe I’ve managed to get the ARC because discovering this series is one of the best things that happened to me.

Callum and Lilac are everything. I love them both as individuals and as a couple. They’ve known each other since they were kids and this made their relationship so special. I normally don’t enjoy childhood friends to lovers because most characters aren’t obsessed with each other straight away, but this book is the complete opposite. Lilac has had a crush on Callum since ever, and Callum has been obsessed with her the same, or even more.

And obsession is the thing that London Snow knows how to write so fucking well. That is exactly what I want and need when the MMC is obsessed. The devotion, the love, the loyalty! The author knows how to make a hero obsessed with a heroine. When they get fake engaged (well, to her it’s fake, to him it couldn’t be more real), he buys the engagement ring for himself just because he wants EVERYONE to know that he’s taken!!! Callum had me blushing and giggling like crazy!!

The mystery/suspense plot made the book even better. It was a great interlude to the romance and had me stressing every time something happened.

I adore all the mentions of Hayden and Madi. Hayden buys for her everything that she pins on her Pinterest lmao. I love all the mentions of Tristan and Winter and I can’t wait to read their book!!! Please, he watches her sleeping and her breathing is the only thing that relaxes him. I love how all the guys care about their girls 🥹 I love how they’re all obsessed with them, all of them are crazy about their women but each of them in a different way. I also love their friendship, it’s so nice to see healthy relationships between friends.

I can’t wait to read Coach Kav’s book. I know that it’s going to be an age gap + teacher/student.

(and all the kinks that appeared here, guys 😮‍💨 so fucking hot, all of them are my favourite, no joke) - they’re all mentioned by the author at the very start of the book but I’ll put them at the end of my review if somebody wants to know now

Safety info and tw/cw below!

Thank you to the author and The Smuthood for sending me the ARC!

Thank you London the ARC!!!
⭐️ my review might contain minor spoilers since I included some safety info⭐️

Would I consider this safe: Yes. Very.
Cheating: No
OW/OM drama: not really. There’s a guy on campus who is obsessed with the fmc but she doesn’t even know.
Third act breakup/separation: No way. That boy is next level obsessed.
History: dual V. First everything. Gotta love when it’s always been you actually means it’s always been you!

MMC: Callum. Him and Lilac have known each other since they were young. Callum was best friends with lilac’s brother Adam, although I’m not entirely sure why. He’s a total douchbag. Callum has always been in love with Lilac so he acts like a caveman and is incredibly overprotective of her. He finally decides to change things and they’re both all in. I did love his character!

FMC: Lilac. She was sweet girl who was incredibly blind to the fact that the guy who wouldn’t let her show skin or talk to the opposite sex was actually in love with her lol. I enjoyed her character regardless. They were super cute.

If you’re looking for a very realistic story with mystery that is believable , this isn’t it. I figured out who the killer was right away and the deaths were handled very strangely…however I don’t care bc I wasn’t looking for a thriller. I wanted to read a book about a J/P MMC and a sweet FMC and that’s exactly what I got!

I loved how much she set us up for Tristan and Winter too. I really think that’s going to be a good one!

5+ stars!

I love a possessive, obsessed and psychotic hero. I love them with all the red flags. I love their single minded determination to keep their girl. I love when they will do absolutely anything to protect and keep what they consider theirs. It’s my jam. And there’s a lot of authors that do a really good job at creating these fictional men that I love. But London Snow?!

GIRLLLLLLLL.

“You feel that? That’s me inside of you already. You’re going to take my cock next. Every inch. And when I finally fuck you, it’s going to be raw and deep and messy because I won’t be able to stop."

This author gets it. The first book of Castelbrook Falls series was amazing. This one? Callum? Even better! I mean this man is absolutely smitten and completely unhinged in all the ways I love. A virgin hero that has protected her from afar and finally makes his move. I mean 😍.

"You don’t even know, do you? How obsessed I am with you. How many nights I’ve dreamed about being between these legs. About tasting every inch of you. About making you scream my name until your voice gives out,”

And our heroine, Lilac?! Her grace and femininity I just adored. I really liked that she saw Callum’s crazy and said “let’s go, I’m all in.” This girl knows this man is certifiable and loves her and isn’t going to take it for granted.

"To the grave, cowboy. I don’t want to live in this world without you."

The men in this story…I mean hell…they were hilarious. I don’t laugh that often out loud but the relationship the men in this story share is brilliantly written. The humor adds a wonderful foil to the murdery suspenseful plot. I also loved the bread crumbs for future couples. *cough* Tristan and Winter *cough* Caiden and Chapel *cough*

The smut?! Holy cow. Someone pour some cold water on me. It was just the best. Passionate and primal with some mask play in there🥵.

"Every time we fuck, I’m gonna suck on these tits until you’re shaking. You hear me? They’re mine. Just like the rest of you."

I mean…..

Callum just HAS his girl and she knows it and it’s just the sweetest freaking thing ever.

And the suspense? The “who-dun-it” I never completely guessed it. I had an inkling but London really did a decent job with that.

Picking Possessive was hot and entertaining and I just really loved it. I can’t wait for more stories!!! Callum and Lilac will be living rent free in my head for awhile.

“In what universe would I ever allow anyone else to get this close to you, bambi?” he snaps. “Spoiler alert: no such universe exists.”

4 stars because I loved Calum so much!

I definitely liked this more than the first one. I loved Calum and Lilac together. They were honestly so cute. I loved how obsessive and possessive he was. Like beyond!! It’s so great to read MMCs that would literally do anything for their girl.

So while I loved them…I was not a fan of the plot. As well as so many things that didn’t add up to me. It took away from the reading experience because I kept thinking wait what? Or huh that doesn’t add up or make sense. I felt like that happened too many times here.

First of all these people are in college. We have no idea how old they are or what year of college they are in and to top it off we never hear or see them go to actual class. It was mentioned once that Lilac was picked up from a lecture but they are never in class!! I’ve never read a book based at a college and never see or hear about them in class.

Also we learn that Callum’s grandmother paid Lilacs family to take him in when he was younger but I have a question..why the hell didn’t his own grandmother take him in? He has a cousin who apparently runs a town and yet he didn’t go live with his family, he went and lived with his friend’s family? That makes no sense to me.

This is a fake engagement book. For Callum it’s real but Lilac thinks it’s fake. He tells her he’s obsessed with her and how he wants to put a baby in her. He actually tries to put a baby in her and yet it still continues on with her saying how she wishes their relationship wasn’t fake. In what world is it fake if he’s actively trying to put a baby in you. I hate that it took the entire book for Callum to express his love for her. Literally the whole book! Yeah he’s possessive and stuff and expresses that but doesn’t express his love til the very end. Again makes no sense.

And then we have the conflict with the villain. Who I guessed very early on by the way. We are told by one person the reason for them being at the abandoned mansion and then we are told by another person a completely different reason for them being there. So which is it? Because the reason is actually a big freakin part of the plot. With that we also have no idea why the villain kills all the people he did. There was no closure as to why he had to kill all those people.

The secondary characters made this book so much better. I loved all of them. I’m so intrigued by the rest of their stories. I am bummed that Ramsey’s book won’t be written by her because he’s from another author’s universe. Idk anything about that author but I know this one is safe and will be a one click read for me so I’ll have to wait for reviews on that. I also wanted a book about Coach Kav before I saw he’s actually getting a novella!!

So yeah I liked this book for the MCs romance but I didn’t like the plot as much. Im patiently waiting for Tristan and Winters book. Hayden seems like the most possessive out of the three but I have a feeling it’s definitely Tristan.

NO CHEATING
NO OW DRAMA

NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP

I wanted to love this one as much as the first book but it kinda fell flat. It was hard to feel that connection between Callum and Lilac when we didn’t get to see much of their past and how they grew up together. The issue is we’re being told about them living together as children and how he’s her brother’s best friend but we don’t get to actually see any of that.

I will say I am a whoreeee for an over the top, possessive mmc. The more unhinged the better!! Callum fit the bill. Even though it was hard for me to feel that spark between the main characters I still enjoyed reading about a mmc willing to do anything and everything for his girl. And he may also wear a mask and chase her around a bit 🤭 hehehe

Honestly, I didn’t hate it. I just didn’t love it like the first book. I did enjoy the bromance and the girls having their friend group! I will still continue to read this author because her books are all about the vibes.

Thank you to London for the ARC.

I loved the mystery/suspense element in this one, it was woven in really well. Sure, I clocked a few of the twists early, but there were still enough surprises to keep me invested and flipping pages like a woman possessed.

Now, let’s talk tropes: double virgin and dark romance? That combo never quite hits right for me. I struggle to suspend disbelief when two virgins are suddenly Olympic-level in the bedroom with no awkward fumbling or hesitation. Like babes … no one is that confident straight out of the gate. That said the spice was still spicing, so if you can roll with the fantasy, it definitely delivers.

I didn’t fully fall head over heels for either Callum or Lilac, but the found family vibes and friendship group? Absolute gold. The banter had me grinning, and I’m such a sucker for that ride-or-die energy between friends.

This was actually my first read from London and I’m already eyeing up more. I’m especially keen for Tristan & Winter’s book that “friendship” dynamic has me wildly intrigued. Give me tension, give me drama, give me more of whatever’s going on between those two.

And there is a line in that the book that I think really sums up the book perfectly “It really does feel like something out of a twisted Hallmark movie. Murdery, but sweet.”

It’s a solid 3.5 stars

Thanks The Smuthood and Author for an ARC copy

This is a fucking mess LOL. Prepare to suspend your disbelief if you're going into this. The murder/mystery sub-plot is laughably bad. If any of you remember Goosebumps, it's along those lines. Apparently in this book, murders don't phase a college and forget about the families of the murdered. And the cops are just like, 'nothing to see here, folks.' I honestly don't know why the author needed to include the murder plot, unless it's because that's her "dark" shtick? It's definitely not because she's good at it. There's really no romance here, either. Characters and plot are way OTT, and everything seemed very juvenile. I wasn't into it. Honestly, I was surprised by all the rave reviews. Only got about halfway through. Lost interest and when a secret society was mentioned, I bailed. Can't stand that shit. Always comes off lame to me. I did skim to the whodunnit part. About what I expected.

The story needed more substance. The fact the H is obsessed with the h made little sense. A crush? Yes. But obsessed to the point of wanting to impregnate her? Umm a bit much. They’re still in college. But, anyway, the H is still caring and very protective towards the h.

Overall, it’s a sweet story with a tad of mystery. Not much of a plot or actually a believable story. But if you’re okay with that then it’s super safe. No OW/OM, both virgins.

4.5 rounded up for the bromance of three ABSOLUTELY psychotic friends.

If you could imagine someone laying on their bed kicking their feet in glee than that was me while reading this 😂😂

the double virgin hockey romance is what had me applying for the arc, the mystery in the beginning hooked me in, and the sweet yet psychotic man that is Callum Grey had me LOVING IT.

I feel like this author did such a great job of giving Callum and his friends personalities outside of being JUST obsessed and protective. sometimes with these types of books the H’s are just one note but i loved that Callum got scared and nervous, that he joked with his friends and had a goofy personality. if it wasn’t clear, i LOVED Callum 😂

honestly i loved Lilac also. she was strong and tough but most importantly she didn’t do stupid stuff and get herself in trouble. she knew there was a psycho on the loose and she stayed with Callum and let him protect her 🥹

My only thing is that the mystery wasn’t solved until like the last 5% but they weren’t actively looking for the threat. they spent most of their time just having fun or at hockey games. and that’s fine! but people close to Lilac were dropping like flies and all Callum had done was make a phone call 😂 there were also A LOT of scenes with the other guys. and again not a bad thing because they have the best dynamic but i would have liked a little more closure with her parents or a little deeper into his back story than a karaoke scene with characters from a series not even by this author.

all that to say that i really really loved this. it was short, spicy, funny, everything i needed!

A HUGE thank you to the author for an arc 🥰

i now want to go read Hayden’s book because he’s hilarious 🫣😂

Pucking Possessive by London Snow
4/5⭐
3/5🌶️

After finishing the first book, I can't wait to dive into this one! It was a quick read—you could easily finish it in one sitting. I honestly couldn't put it down! The mystery and suspense had me on the edge of my seat, especially trying to figure out who the villain was. Callum and Lilac have known each other since they were kids. Callum is best friends with Lilac's brother, so out of respect, he hesitates to approach her, even though he's had a crush on her for ages. But when Lilac’s family wants her to marry someone else, Callum decides it’s time to make his move and claim her for himself!

What’s great about Callum is how devoted he is to Lilac. He goes above and beyond to protect her, even going so far as to sabotage her dates and end anyone who dares to look or touch her! I loved all the little things he does for her. He’s a hockey player, popular with the ladies, but he only has eyes for Lilac—she's the only one who matters to him. Lilac herself is such a sweet character. She has a crush on Callum but thinks he isn’t interested in her. I enjoyed how she likes to push his buttons and isn’t afraid to stand her ground.

The chemistry between Callum and Lilac is adorable—so sweet, but the spice is so hot! I loved the primal play in the story; it was super steamy, and I wish there had been even more of it! The supporting characters also added to the fun. I loved the camaraderie between Callum and his friends; the way they have each other's backs is so heartwarming. Overall, this book is a great pick if you’re looking for something quick, spicy, with a touch of mystery, suspense, and awesome friendships.

♥---REVIEW: 8/6/2025---♥

Exciting premise but execution fell flat

Warning: If you loved this book, look away now.

OVERALL RATING: 2.5 STARS

This is an example of a book that, if you list the tropes/characteristics of the MMC, it would sound like a home run—an easy 5-star book for me. Unfortunately, reading it didn't quite live up to the expectation.

I loved the friendship/dynamics between Hayden, Callum, and Tristan. Hayden was so hilariously unhinged, Tristan was that friend who hated everyone except for his circle, and Callum was the relatively levelheaded guy of the group who couldn't help messing with the other two from time to time.

I also loved the found family vibes that Lilac got when she was brought into their circle of friends.

She looks carefree. Lit from the inside out. And it hits me. This is the happiest I’ve ever seen her. And it’s because of me. Because of us.

A lot of things didn't work for me, though.

Mainly, I felt like the author was trying hard to tell me how far Callum would go with his obsession with Lilac rather than just showing me. I would have preferred to see a scene where he threatened/hurt a guy who asked Lilac out on a date, for example, rather than just reading that from his thoughts. That was mentioned at least three times (I think) just in the first few chapters, and I was like "I know that already!!!". I understand some of his thoughts were supposed to be repetitive because he's "obsessed", but reading them on paper/my screen was exhausting.

➥ Take it like this: if we remove his POV chapters from the book, he would seem like a ~mostly~ normal boyfriend.

I also couldn't understand why he insisted on keeping his feelings to himself. He said he made a promise to his best friend, Lilac's brother, but at this point, they weren't really friends anymore so why does that still matter if he really wanted her?

Another reason is that I couldn't see why Callum was in love with Lilac because her personality was so... flat. Callum described her as strong, but she turned into a damsel immediately in this book.

Honestly, this is one of those books that felt like the author listed a bunch of tropes and kinks, and then forced them to fit into the story so we can say the book has them. ✔

DO I RECOMMEND THIS? Maybe. I have a long list of reasons why this book didn't work for me, but they're purely based on my preferences. I didn't quite hate it, but it did make me roll my eyes a bunch of times.

~Thank you to The Smuthood PR and the author for an eARC of this book. I read the book on KU when it came out.~

ARC REVIEW-My review and opinion are my own: I absolutely LOVED Callum in book one. He was definitely my favorite character, even despite him not exactly having a HUGE role in it. So I was very excited to learn that this book would be about him and lilac (such a pretty name). I love the fake engagement trope. And breeding kink ? 🥵. Aside from how spicy this book was , let’s talk about the plot! Oh my god! The actual plot was shocking ! After the first book I wasn’t too sure what I was expecting but it definitely wasn’t this! Especially the first scene in the mansion? What the hell! I was shook when I read that! Over all I absolutely LOVED this book! I am definitely loving this author so much !

3.5 ⭐️

** this cover needs to be updated asap, such an awkward picture ...

also, this author needs to go back and understand what a best friend is ... because these two were not it... so somehow his motives for not being with her were actually quite invalid

she was nice; he was obsessed, end of story :))

Holy. Smokes. LONDON! I need to compose myself because I just want to scream about how good this book is!!! This was my first time reading London Snow, and now I’m going back to read more.

This book is the LITERAL DEFINITION of , “It was always you.” Our MMC Callum is a man OBSESSED! The object of his obsession? His best friends little sister Lilac. He’s been in love with her since they were kids…but he knew he couldn’t cross that line. His devotion to her manifested in protection…protecting her from other men…dates, anything that pulled her away from him and into the arms of another man.

Lilac, is our sweet and innocent FMC. She too has had a crush on Callum since they were kids…but she felt like there was no way a guy like Callum could ever want her…and mistook his obsession and overprotectiveness as him just looking out for his best friends little sister…when in fact it was him making sure no one touches what’s his 😍😍😍

They are both in college, Callum is a playboy hockey player…but there’s a secret behind his reputation. It’s all lies…started mostly by him. Callum and Lilac are BOTH virgins. Callum hasn’t even kissed a girl…and has no intention of kissing anyone but the woman he loves, Lilac.

When Callum hears that Lilacs family is gearing up to marry her off, he swings into action. Proposing a fake engagement to keep her safe and to himself. Only thing is, it’s not fake for him. She will be his wife. No questions asked.

These two are both virgins but let me tell you….the mouths on them??? Especially Callum?? He may be a virgin but he knows what he’s doing and knows just what Lilacs body deserves…he worships her. The chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS. And if you aren’t gasping and needing a cold shower after reading those scenes, then there’s something medically wrong with you 😩😂

There’s an added layer of mystery and suspense that I did not see coming but I LOVED! I won’t ruin it, I want you all to be surprised like I was…but TRUST ME…shocking!

The found family was EVERYTHING! The love the two MC’s share and give each other is beautiful. The duality of Callum had me shook. The way he was the most loving and sweetest man ever, yet completely unhinged and filthy in the bedroom had my head spinning in the best way. I need a real like Callum ASAP 😍

I don’t know what else I can say about this book other than I wish I could re-read it again for the first time…I loved it! Get out there and read it! 💜

Thank you so much to London Snow and Smuthood for the AMAZING opportunity to ARC read this incredible book! 💜

Finding London’s books was a blessing because I can confidently say I’ve been here from the beginning and I will STAY for more!!

Ugh, the angsty vibes do it for me!!
The best part, the part I’ll keep thinking about for months, the longing, the angsty “is it real, is it fake,” the “it’s always been you” for not only Callum but Lilac too.

Callum’s relationship with the guys was such a highlight in this book. I felt like that was part of the puzzle that made Callum, Callum. How he had no blood family but found these two absolute menaces and boom, brothers for life. Thick and think, bloody and dirty, you know these three had each other always. That was the second highlight of the story. And Callum himself, as a character, surprised me with his inner thoughts and past. I loved how he could be every different version of himself with Lilac, and she accepted and loved every part of him.

Lilac was so precious. I loved her, her sass, her bratty side, but also her honesty, her determination to not be afraid of the things going on, and also showing her weakness and fear to Callum because she knew she could trust him. And not only Callum’s found family, but Lilac finds herself some real friends. Madison and Winter were already cool, but the way they opened the fold for Lilac, because of Lilac, and because they could tell how Callum felt. I loved it so much.

The slight pacing issues I had in book one? GONE
The characters felt closer, more real, the relationships stronger, and the vibes more intense and mysterious.
London, I just have to say, you get better and better with every book, and I will be here for ALL of them!!

Thank you, London and Smuthood, for this e-arc!!

Quotes:

Once I turned eighteen, I could have gone anywhere or done anything, but I wanted to be where Lilac is.

The white letters on navy fabric that spell out Grey seventy-seven are like a brand. It's mine. She's mine.

I kiss her like I'm dying. Like she's air, and I've been underwater for years. I kiss her like it's the first and last time, because I don't know what happens after this.

This is the start of something that can't be undone.
And I'm not letting her go.

"I'm going to breed you, baby. Make sure no one ever doubts who you belong to. You'll be mine in every way."

"I need to stop or I won't be able to. I'm obsessed with your body, Lilac. I don't think you understand just how perfect you are."

"Show me how long you've wanted me, Callum. I want to know every thought you've ever had about us."

She deserves the world, and I plan on doing everything within my power to give it to her.

I tilt my head, smiling like I took anger management lessons from Hayden Lockwood.

"Does that sound good? Do you want me to stalk you? Chase you until you don't have anywhere to go except closer to me?"

"To the grave, cowboy. I don't want to live in this world without you."

Tonight I'm going to remind her exactly who she belongs to. Her motherfucking cowboy.

Lilac Fairbanks will forever remain the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life.

"I need to be sedated if we're letting Lockwood take over the plan."

"Sorry you don't have abs. I don't know what to tell you, bro,"

"I've always been yours, cowboy."

"I love you,"
"Yeah? Good. Because I spent a long time loving you in secret, bambi."
