Kayla Miller, the New York Times bestselling author-illustrator of the Click graphic novel series and coauthor of the Besties series, returns with a new Olive story! Olive's hopes for a relaxing two weeks at Camp Acorn Lake are challenged when two of her friends stop speaking to each other.
A storm is brewing—- in the skies and in Olive’s friend group.
Olive is excited to reunite with Max and Bree at Camp Acorn Lake, but the buses have barely pulled away when her two closest camp friends start fighting…and it’s not just a little squabble. They refuse to speak to each other and, even worse, try to make Olive choose sides. Any attempt to smooth things over seems to aggravate them more, leaving Olive stuck in the middle. With Willow enjoying her busy activity and social schedule, Olive has no choice but to spend most of her time with unhappy first-time camper Nat. It’s far from the fun-filled, sun-filled summer she had planned.
Luckily, Olive is able to distract herself with a new challenge: pitching a winning plan for improving the camp! Willow, Nat, and even the feuding Max and Bree want to help Olive make the camp a better place, but with all the drama, they’re lacking the teamwork to make the dream work. Can Olive find a way to free herself and her friends from everything that’s holding them back, or are they doomed to stay stuck in their disagreements?
New York Times bestselling author-illustrator Kayla Miller returns with another vibrant and emotional story about the joys and challenges of navigating friend groups and the importance of remembering that the only feelings you can control are your own.
Olive Branche is back at Camp Acorn Lake summer camp that she previously attended. She had a blast and hopes for a repeat performance! She is happy to see familiar faces again. This time Nat is also attending the camp but because she is a “newbie” and doesn’t know anyone, she is being a big Debbie Downer. Rather than embracing the newness of the camp and joining in, Nat has removed herself socially and participated in limited activities. She has a negative outlook and attitude towards everything. Even other campers have noticed and commented on her pessimism. Olive is always trying to make others feel more comfortable and welcoming but she knows her limitations with Nat.
What has gotten Olive really down is the feud between BFFs Max and Bree. Olive hasn’t a clue as to the cause of their feud but Olive has been pushed in the middle, forcing her to choose between the two of them during their arguments. Not cool. Olive does her best to have Max and Bree make up and be friends again, but it all seems to be a lost cause.
Olive shifts her focus towards a project for the camp. A former camper is a benefactor for a large donation with the best idea on how to improve the camp. While some campers have ideas that lean towards selfishness, Olive strives for an idea that will be overall better for the camp’s environment, including plants and animals. All she needs to do is to have other campers, including Max, Bree and Nat participate as a team on this project. The question is, is it possible?
I have loved every graphic novel in the Click series. However, I lacked whole-hearted enthusiasm for this one due to the unhelpfulness from Max and Bree and Nat’s intolerable attitude. Since Nat’s been introduced in Clash (book #4), she’s been a thorn in the series so I prefer the focus be away from her to minimize the toxicity. Hopefully, the next book will be back on course.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy.
It’s two weeks of summer camp at Camp Acorn Lake! Everyone has been there from the previous year except one girl named Nat who is trying to figure out where she fits in. Olive is super excited to be reunited with her friends Max and Bree until Max and Bree are fighting. The two make Olive choose who to hang out with, but Olive feels very conflicted as she doesn’t want to hurt the other person’s feelings nor does she want to be in the middle of their argument.
There is news that the camp has someone who will donate to the camp! All that needs to be done is for the campers to come up with a good idea and presentation to encourage the donator to donate to their idea. While going on a hike, the group of campers come across litter in the woods and they decide to clean it up. They also decide to give back to nature and provide native plants, shelter for the animals, and much more! During this clean-up, the group comes up with the idea of presenting the donator with an environmentally conscious idea. They talk to the camp workers about using already existing materials to build a compost bin, a garden, and a bat house!
With these projects, will Max and Bree ever make up and get along or will their fight cause problems with this project? Which project does the donator like the most?
This was a great graphic novel for young kids. I loved that you never really know why Max and Bree are fighting until the end. Throughout the book, I felt so bad for Olive being stuck in the middle and I was hoping for Nat to find her place in this camp as she’s the newbie.
Another great graphic novel for the Click series! Olive and her friends are back at camp with Nat joining them but so grumpy about it. Olive tries to be helpful but when her friends Max and Bree start fighting, it threatens to ruin her summer too.
The camp director announces a former camper wants to donate to a project and while other campers think about comfort items, Olive thinks about creating a garden and begins doing small things to help creatures and campers as she gets ready to present her idea.
The graphics are just what you expect from this series and the book moves quickly. Another one I won’t be able to keep on the shelves!
Although this is the eighth book in the Click series of stories about Olive and her friends, you don’t need to have read the other books to get into this story about summer camp, and what happens when friends fight, and then don’t want to make up.
And Olive is stuck in the middle. Thus the name of this story.
And no matter what Olive does, she can’t get her friends to stop fighting. The other problem is that one of her friends from school, Nat, has been sent to summer camp against her will. She doesn’t want to be there, and hates not being home, so have a bad attitude to begin with.
Like with all middle grade stories, friendships are a big part of the story, and in this case, Olive has to juggle all her friends to try to have a good time.
Cute story of friends finding that they really do want to have a good time, if they can just get over their hurt.
What I like about the Olive books, is that she is a bit of chameleon, and makes friends with the drama kids, as well as the science and art kids. In one of the earlier books, they ask her to pick, and she can’t.
For those who have been following the series, it is a good addition. For those who have never read these books, this would be a good one to pick up, because you don’t have to know who the people are to get the gist of the story. Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review. This book is coming out the 6th of May 2025.
Book 7 in the Click MG graphic novel series by @kayke ⚡️ Olive is back at Camp Acorn for what she hopes is the best summer ever! Max and Bree, Olive’s camp besties, start fighting almost immediately, sticking Olive squarely in the middle. Willow is busy with her active schedule so Olive is left behind with unhappy first-time camper, Nat. As Olive works to improve the camp, she tries to avoid being pulled into the drama surrounding her, but finds herself stuck. 🏕️ I will never not read graphic novels in this series when they’re out. I can’t keep them on the shelves so I always have to read the ARC so I can enjoy them before they fly out of the library! That’s what’s going to happen with this book that releases May 6!
CW: sprained ankle
They portray kids in middle school, but write them as 3rd graders. I wish some of it would be written for the age they’re supposed to be.
Thanks to TLC book tours for a copy of this book. It’s apparently the 7th graphic novel in a series. It was super cute, in story and art work. And, of course, all the main characters learned a little lesson about friendship. Well, maybe not Nat! Lol. Would recommend to middle grade readers.
I absolutely adore the Click series of books! I have to admit, this one wasn't my favorite of the bunch, however it still had so many wonderful life lessons for kiddos - about friendship, nature and more. :) highly recommend this book and the entire series for any age.
This was such a cute graphic novel that takes place at a summer camp. I absolutely loved the story and the artwork and it was a really quick read.
Olive is excited to return to Camp Acorn Lake, but is disappointed when her two closest friends aren’t getting along. To distract herself, Olive focuses on ways to improve the camp.
This is a fun story with a focus on friendships and the environment.
Thanks to the publisher for the gifted copy of the book.
Note: I received a DRC from NetGalley in exchange for a review. “Kayla Miller, the New York Times bestselling author-illustrator of the Click graphic novel series and coauthor of the Besties series, returns with a new Olive story! Kayla Miller’s “Click” series is very charming, and I enjoyed this book a lot, just like her others. The illustrations are cute and charming, and the story is simple, yet fun. I also thought that it was very fun to revisit Camp Acorn Lake again. I really enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to kids from ages 8-12. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I just love this series and Olive and her friends so much! The artwork is so vibrant that it automatically cheers me up.
In this latest edition, Olive is off to summer camp with Willow and a very snooty Nat who is determined to complain about everything. If that's not enough, two of Olive's besties at camp have a fight and she's stuck mediating between them. Somehow they have to work together to present a plan to improve the camp with a huge donation that's coming its way.
As always, I love the questions the author tackles in this age group and the way she does it, imbuing life lessons with so much fun. The kids here came up with so many ideas for environmental sustainability and the garden they wanted to create. Their innovativeness was wonderful. Also, just the sheer joy of being with friends and enjoying all the camp activities and being free and away from technology was so well portrayed.
Another sweet and relatable graphic novel in the "Click" series from Kayla Miller. It was nice to go back to camp with Olive to see her hang out with friends we don't see as much. This one has Olive getting too involved with her friends' argument when they want her to pick sides and pair up for activities. Aside from the friend drama there's a theme of picking a project that a donor might want to fund for the camp and Olive wants a camp garden to be built everyone can enjoy. She and fellow campers find free ways to reuse items around the camp in cool ways. It's a mostly fun, light story but I missed Olive's family and the tension didn't seem quite tense enough for me. I think a lot of kids would really enjoy it though with the friendship drama, environmental theme and fun camp activities.
I love the Click series, and this book is a great addition. This brings back great memories of my summers as a camp counselor. (My middle school daughter read it as well and also gives her approval.)This story highlights how drama between two friends can affect other friends as well, and that there are different ways to deal with it. I liked the way the characters connected with nature, as well as the tips at the end of the book. I am going to add this series to our school library collection now that I’ve reconnected with them! Thank you to NetGalley and Clarion Books for allowing me to read and review this ARC.
I have been following this series for a while. And let me tell you something, I wish this series was around when I was a kid. Because when I was a preteen/teen, I didn’t see real scenarios in graphic novels that portrayed middle school age.
Whether it is being the new kid at school, or not fitting in, or being caught in the middle of a friendship disaster. This series explores all of that. Also, I love that Stuck is set in camp. I’ve always wanted to go to camp and meet new friends, we just couldn’t afford it. So I personally love reading camp settings. The graphics are just amazing. So many background details and side stories going on.
⚡️STUCK⚡️ Olive’s back at Camp Acorn and is super excited to be reunited with her friends. She just knows it is going to be awesome. That is until two of her great friends aren’t talking to each other. The worst part of being caught in the middle is having to choose sides. The stress is overwhelming Olive. And to add to her stress, first-time camper Nat is not happy being at camp and she definitely lets others know that. Olive tries her best to avoid drama by taking on challenges to better the camp.
I highly recommend this graphic novel series for preteens and older. Thank you, NetGalley for the advanced copy.
It's a no-brainer: When Kayla Miller is about to release a new story in the "Click" series, I order 2 copies for our library's collection. (...and let's be honest: I usually check one out as soon as I add it to the catalog.)
"Stuck," the latest addition to the series, however, falls short of its predecessors. While I appreciate Miller including people from various backgrounds and with different personalities/talents, the ongoing presence of "Negative Natalie" was a distraction to the overall story. It seems inauthentic for Olive to be so bothered by the conflict between two of her other friends, but almost fearful (?) of standing up to Natalie.
To confirm whether I was misremembering Natalie's backstory, I reread "Break" (Book 6 in the series). While Miller gives readers a bit more insight as to why Natalie acts the way she does, it felt like Natalie's actions and comments in Book 7 were more aggressive--almost bully-like. I am hopeful Miller addresses the escalation in a subsequent book, as I believe it is time for Olive and her friends to discover the importance of setting healthy boundaries.

I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Summer camp is here, but so is the drama! In Olive’s next story, she’s back at summer camp with her old friends: Max and Bree. But when a fight between them begins, Olive feels stuck in the middle. From making art at the craft club to playing softball, Olive tries to find the fun back in summer. However, a donation to the camp is forthcoming, and Olive and her friends try to determine what the donor would like and what would benefit the camp. Another Click adventure graphic novel, and this time it’s back at summer camp for Olive. She’s excited to see old and new friends, but tension is brewing for Max and Bree. While Olive begins her campaign to add to a garden, drama unfolds. Friendship bracelets and musical tunes clash together in a bright and colorful graphic novel of Olive’s story at summer camp. It may be raining, but sunshine and bug motels are always around the corner. I’m eager for the next installment.
This latest entry in the “Click” graphic novels series has Olive and her friends coming back for another summer at Camp Acorn Lake. New to the group is Olive’s somewhat negative classmate Nat. She is a first time camper and isn’t all that excited about the bugs and is skeptical of all the happy go lucky campers. On the first day of camp Olive witnesses the last bit of an argument between her good friends Max and Bree leading to several instances of Olive having to choose between them for pairing up during various camp activities. Amidst all the friendship drama, there is an endowment available to improve Camp Acorn Lake and Olive is determined to have the winning idea by making camp more eco friendly. Can Olive and her friends put their differences aside to make camp a better place to be? This is another great entry in this series. The friendships and conflicts all ring true to life with the stakes and outcomes being very realistic. Recommended for purchase for any library serving children in grades 2nd through 8th.
Olive and friends, including negative Natasha, are at summer camp. Olive remembers that last year was the best and can’t wait to be reunited with her at home friends and camp friends. But drama ensues: 2 friends have a fight and Olive inserts herself in that drama. They also keep telling Olive that she has to choose: one as a partner, who she will hang out with at free time, etc. Another storyline has campers deciding on how to spend a donation to make camp better. Suggestions include air conditioning, inground pool, etc. Olive wants to focus on the nature part of camp and suggests a garden, and gas campers complete other nature activities such as build a bat house and start composting. She goes against camp rules and goes to gang up the bat house alone except for Natasha, and they get caught in the rain. They take refuge in the AV building and have a deeper conversation than usual. This will a a popular series and this entry is very satisfying.
In Kayla Miller’s STUCK puts Olive from her CLICK series in a summer camp setting. Olive is looking forward to a fun-filled summer with her camp besties, Will and Bree, but when they have a fight and press her to choose sides, she finds herself stuck in the middle. As she tries to navigate camp without them, Olive comes up with a plan to improve the camp, but she’ll need the rest of her pals to find a way to come together to pitch in to make it a success.
The story pairs typical camp drama with a storyline involving conservation and environmental stewardship that is a natural fit for the camp setting and provides a new angle for the story. Readers will relate to Olive’s struggle with her friends, whether they have had a camp experience or not. Fans of the CLICK series will be thrilled to see Olive’s camp adventures, but the book also stands alone and can be picked up and enjoyed by those who are not already familiar with the series and characters.
This was a good addition to the series. In this volume, Olive returns to summer camp, but two of her closest friends get into a fight. Then they turn their fight into everyone's problem. At least they do on Field Day. Most of the rest of the time, they just go at each other, and Olive makes it her problem while everyone else ignores them.
Olive is definitely a very social kid. And a people pleaser. But I did like that it was pointed out, by multiple people, that two other people fighting wasn't actually her business. To be fair, they made it Olive's business quite a bit by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors for her. But even so, there is a lesson to be learned about not letting other people's drama affect you.
In the end, the issue was resolved. I really liked all the stuff we learned about sustainability throughout the book. And the Odds & Ends section at the back of the book was great.
Olive is excited to head off to Camp Acorn Lake, with friends Bree, Willow, and Max. She's not thrilled that the very negative Nat is in her cabin. When Bree and Max have a fight, Olive gets dragged into the middle of it. When a donor proposes a contest for how her money could be used in the camp, the campers all come up with ideas, and have to present them as skits. These include creature comforts like air conditioning, but Olive thinks the camp would benefit from a garden. She is also building bat houses, and when she tries to hang one up, the weather goes bad. Nat finds her, and the two have a heart to heart about why Olive is so invested in Bree and Max's fight, and about why Nat is so negative. This was a fine addition to a very popular series, and my students will be eager to read it.
Graphic Novel I received an electronic ARC from HarperCollins Children's Books through NetGalley. Olive and her friends are back and ready to spend two weeks at summer camp. Unfortunately something happens between Max and Bree and they spend the first week fighting and trying to get Olive to take sides. This ruins camp for Olive as she focuses so much on something someone else has to resolve. Miller uses other members of this friend group to point out that Olive is ruining her own experience by focusing so much on her friends' fight. I appreciate how the friends blend together but also stand out on their own. By the end, everything is resolved and they succeed in adding some valuable items to the camp. This series has been a joy to share with upper elementary level readers and they look forward to each new volume.
While the friend group itself is full of interesting dynamics, this missed the mark for me a bit. The focus on nature and sustainability was great, but the rest of the story is quite cyclical. In this age range, it makes sense to fixate on your friend drama because it feels so world ending. At the same time, the plot is sluggish due to how much this fight drags the rest of the characters down too. The reveal of what started the fight proved to me that the dialogue and behaviors are aged down younger than middle grade. This age range has a bit more maturity than this story provided, generally speaking.
Thanks to NetGalley and Clarion Books for the arc!
Stuck by Kayla Miller is absolutely adorable! I’m so excited to add her series to my classroom library. I love how she continues Olive’s story, showing how she can support a friend while also managing her own feelings. This book gave me all the nostalgic summer camp and childhood friendship vibes.
I wouldn’t recommend starting the series with this one, but it’s a great addition if you’re already familiar with the characters.
One thing that really stood out to me was a quote from Kayla Miller at the beginning: “For all the smart, creative, driven kids in my life. I’m so excited to see how you’ll change the world.” As a teacher of gifted students, this really hit home.
It’s always a treat to return to the Click universe, and I really enjoy when Olive takes center stage. It’s hard to believe this is book 7(!) and Kayla Miller takes us back to camp. The art and coloring is the highlight of this vibrant feast for the eyes. Kayla plays peacemaker as her friends fight, weather dampens and grumpiness abounds. Still, Olive’s optimism shines through like sunlight through a break in the clouds. I’m grateful to have received an ARC digital copy from NetGalley for review.
This novel makes me miss or want to go to a summer camp filled with amazing nature and creative outdoor and artsy activities. It wasn't a thing where things grew up, so I love reading about it. Love these characters and Click series. Olive is amazing, and I relate to her in many ways. This time she is juggling friendships, two friends get mad at each other and she doesn't want to pick sides, or be in a bad mood, she wants to create a garden and combine all ideas into one fun activity so everyone can enjoy their time together. Even with new friends. I like how she helps everyone.
I love the Click series and this was no exception. The art style is so cute and these books are really fast-paced. I love how Miller is emphasizing protecting the Earth--definitely needs to happen more. I think this of all the Click books, but I feel like Olive needs to mind her own business. She always takes [i]everything[\i] like it's her problem, but I guess that's what she learned this book. I suppose the fight between Bree and Max was a little silly and felt like 5 year olds were squabbling. Was this on purpose? Really cute book, characters felt a little shallow.
