The Haunted Hearts Trilogy #1

A Curse of Twisted Fates

Rate this book
She’s running from her past. They’re trapped by their curse. Only her magic can save them—if they don’t break her first.

Everest has spent the last year on the run, hunted for her magic by the same people who murdered her parents. When she arrives in Haven, middle-of-nowhere Virginia, she hopes to finally find some answers and maybe a small sliver of peace. It’s just her luck that her new house is haunted by ghosts who will stop at nothing to make her leave.

Hudson, August, and Casimir have been trapped as ghosts for ten years, and each new resident weakens them further, pushing them closer to a fate worse than death. With only one month left to break their curse and recover their bodies, they should be desperate to get rid of Everest. But even at the risk of losing their souls, they can’t seem to let her go.

As riddles unravel and enemies close in, it becomes clear their fates are intertwined in ways none of them could have imagined. But if they can’t trust each other, even fate might not be enough to save them.

A Curse of Twisted Fates is the first book in a slow-burn PNR Reverse Harem series and will end on a cliffhanger.

I loved this story, it has so many great elements that came together so beautifully to make this insane story so good! It was at times very fun, but also heartbreaking, cute, dark, .. Like it really has it all. All four of the mc's are looking for something and when they finally find all the answers they were looking for, fate comes knocking on their door. The story was so good, it felt smooth and well written, it didn't make me want to pause, i just had to keep reading. And plus look at that gorgeous cover!!!!!

Thre three ghosts are so well versed, you have the broody genius, the silent ( i will not fall ) and the golden retriever ofcourse who makes life that much more bearable. I loved them seperate and together, their banter, the bond they share. It was incredible. But the one who truly stole the show is ofcourse Everest. I love her character so much. She has been through some of the worst things imaginable and is still fighting, she still has hope and her smile and her ability to befriend 'George'. I loved everything about her.

That cliffhanger thooooooo........

Good debut novel. The writing was pleasant and the story line intriguing.

I just wasn't quite as invested as I would've liked. Neither the romance nor the plot ever got to a point where I felt completely hooked. It lacked the oomph to really be great but I could definitely see Rae get there in the future.

This was such a fabulous book and I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

I love a good reverse harem with genuine relationship development, smart and distinct characters, and a mystery/adventure that keeps that characters busy. Especially one where the writing is well-done and there is a good balance between explanation and story. Trust me, they aren't always easy to find.

Everest is such a lovely character and despite everything she's been through she is resilient and kind, if -understandably- fearful of others. She is intelligent in a way that can be rare in romance heroines even if she doesn't pick up on every little clue or hint.

The boys were fun and each a clear and distinct character with their own merits, which is not always easy to find in reverse harems. Further, while the extent to which they can manipulate the world around them may have been a bit much for "ghosts" it made the story better overall as they were able to play a larger part in Everest's life.

Despite the fact that there isn't a heck-ton of action/danger in the book and a decent part is allocated for developing the romance, the story was never boring, dull, or dragging. The relationship development, multiple povs, and mystery/suspense kept me thoroughly entertained.

Overall, I cannot wait for the next book and will be checking in on Ms. Rae's page regularly for updates.

Twisted indeed

This book takes you a journey. You have the FMC running for her life. The MMCs are souls tethered to the house she rents.

She thinks she rented a haunted house but as she discovers the truth about the ghosts residing in the house she realizes that she isn't as alone as she thought.

As they try to find answers the guys make a choice not knowing if it will even work. If it works will she hate them? If it doesn't work will it even matter?

This story is absolutely captivating. I kept asking questions waiting for the answers. Some answers have been revealed and others more complex.

I absolutely can't wait to see what happens next. This ended on an intense cliffhanger and I need answers.

Who is friend and who is foe?

The perfect balance of spooky and romantic, just in time for Halloween!
Three souls stuck, bound to a house. Hudson, Jasper and Casimir have no choice when it comes to people residing in their home, they simply have to go.
One woman, haunted by her past. Everest is sure that the town of Haven holds the answers she's looking for. It doesn't scare her that the house she's staying at it haunted. After all, nothing that's happening is nearly as scary as the last year as been.

Tropes:
who hurt you
touch her and ☠️
Morally grey men
Enemies to lovers
Possessive men (figuratively and literally)
Bully romance
Slow burn

A fun, entertaining story with plenty of mystery, magic, curses and ghosts. Everest was so likeable as she arrives in Haven, looking for answers to her past. The guys were intriguing. A slow burn story with great character development. Looking forward to the next book.

If you're a fan of Kristy Cunning's Four Psychos, Sinclair Kelly's Ghost Girl, or Tana Rose's Sophie Covey series, this is the one for you.

Everest is on the run from mages after finding her parents murdered. She happens upon a town called Haven where she hopes to get some answers. Unfortunately her new house comes equipped with three ghosts that are determined for her to leave. And unfortunately for them, she's more afraid of the hunters chasing her than a ghost.

Hudson, August, and Cas have been stuck in the house for ten years and have been trying to figure out a way to break the curse or live in the house forever. Eventually, Everest and her men form a peaceful living arrangement and slowly develop feelings for her. Cas, is the cinnamon roll mmc and falls for her quickly. With little time left to break the curse, Everest is determined to help them.

Great read with interesting and unique characters. Looking forward to the next one!
