The Projects #3

The Mating Project

Rate this book
Being together could mean death to them all, but walking away is not an option…

Bloodlines need to be protected at all costs and as a true-blood cougar Maria is expected to mate with a council-approved shifter. Too bad the one chosen makes her skin crawl for all the wrong reasons.

But running away already landed her in hot water once before. Wolf shifter Malachi Luca saved her life ten years ago, and then promptly disappeared with her heart. So much for true love.

Now time is running out and Maria is feeling the strain. Seducing Professor Silas Deacon should be a welcome distraction except the human turns out to be her mate, too.

And that damn wolf—yeah he's back and determined to claim both his cat and his human. What's a girl to do? Fight for love and enjoy the awesome sex, of course.

This shifter romance is a thrilling and erotic struggle for happiness that keeps reader shivering in suspense. Some surprises along the way keeps readers guessing and the intriguing concept and characters ensure they want to know more. While the story is short, the story is an exciting romance full of passion that captures the heart and has the reader falling for two very sexy and dominant alpha men.

Maria was not going to be stuck with someone she doesn’t want. The council picking the mate is not for her and her panther. Malachi Luca is not going be tied down with a mate. When he scents her, he knows he needs to stay away. But she was in need of help. Fast forward 10yrs, Maria has watched her siblings all find a mate. She hoped that Malachi would come back but nope. Silas Deacon is a Dean of the college and one man that the council would love to teach at their facility. He is also Maria’s mate. You have to love the seduction she pulls off to get him but then someone returns. Now we have some serious issues or do we? There is a lot going on from what happened in the past to present. Was there a shocking twist? Not really when it comes to shifters. I figured what the dynamics would be. The council has a lot to change. There were a few sad parts but thank goodness things worked out.

Well my wow, amazing. I didn't get a chance to read the two before this, but I really couldn't tell, there was no major history missing that took away from the story. I've read Ms Oconnor's work before and loved it as I did this one. I actually had to slow myself down as I tried to skim ahead to see what would happen. (smiles)

Humans and shifters shouldn't mix... so says the council. The old generation is set in stone about keeping the shifter lines pure. But in fact that in itself maybe be causing more harm. Maria's father has set his foot down and she is to be mated, but 1) he isn't her true mate, 2) she cant stand him. when all the arguing finds its end whats a girl to do... Run away.

Years past and the past just has a way of popping up like a bad penny or a good one in some cases. Old laws still prevalent, the Mating project picks mates by genetics... all about keeping the blood pure. In a series of events... her pass meets her present and with pants down shirt up. Little does Maria know that Malachi and Silas knows each other, Imagine her surprise...

Malachi has a lot to answer for... on the run, leaving a mate, being bad and causing the council no end of trouble..or so its being said. Maria is a pure blood, snarky personality beauty bent on mating someone of her choice, Silas.. overworked human that has no love for the council and just looked like he is part adonis. Malachi best sex walking on two..or four legs a wolf pure blood.

go out and grab it.. then sit back and let Ms. O'connor weave her magic for you, amazing story line, wonderful characters, part intense, part mystery part passion and a whole lot of sexy heat poppin off. Mix and stir slowing over medium heat and watch sassy, alpha-ism with a drop of BDSM elements boil over. Enjoy

Finally we get to Maria’s story. Ok so maybe I wanted this book a little more than I should. I was not disappointed.
Maria is one of the few pure cougar shifters left and due to the mating project she’s supposed to mate with a guy who is probably old enough to be her dad. And he’s creepy. She doesn’t like him and she sure as hell doesn’t want to mate with him.

When she’s 18 she meets her true mate. He saves her life, kisses her and promptly disappears. She spends the next ten years doing everything she can to avoid the mating her father had set up over ten years ago and also trying to forget Malachi.

She meets Silas while trying to seduce him to work with the council.
Shockingly when she first sees him she realizes that he’s her mate. But he’s human. And she thought Malachi was her mate.

So what happens when Malachi shows up again? Where does that leave Silas? And what happens with the creepy true-blood shifter she’s supposed to mate with.

I found myself on the edge of my couch waiting for the bad guy to get put in his place. I was happy with the outcome.

I like the strength Maria, Silas and Malachi have with each other and on their own.

Doris has given us yet another strong, well formed, hot, steamy story. She never disappoints.

Book three of the Projects series puts us right back in O’Conner’s shifter world. Maria met her mate ten years ago, however, circumstances worked against the two keeping them apart. When Maria finds another mate, fate plays some good jokes! Maria is an incredibly strong heroine, and is nicely bracketed by the alpha males, Silas and Malachi (even their names sound sinful, don’t they?)

This book was a great read, and super-hot. Do shifters ever disappoint? We get to revisit the characters from the first two books, and find out how they are doing, which is always a plus. I think there will be many more books to come (I hope?), and look forward to reading them all.

So if you are in the mood for hot shifter loving, threesomes, okay with M/M action, and always root for the underdog (or wolf in this case!) this book will provide a fulfilling and enjoyable read for you.
