Introduces every topic through the use of real world applications, using real data sets. Each section starts with a realistic data setting that illustrates the need for method introduced. The data settings and other examples are then used to demonstrate the methods. Throughout the text students are encouraged to use graphical displays to get a feeling for the information contained in the sample data. These displays serve as a check on the reasonableness of the assumptions and a basis for preliminary inferences before the presentation of formal statistical methods. The organization allows maximum teaching first 9 chapters form the books core, while remaining chapters can be covered according to the needs of a particular course.
