Summer is heating up for reluctant psychic Riley Thorn and her handsome private investigator boyfriend, Nick Santiago. First, her disapproving grandmother arrives determined to make Riley take her powers seriously or face the wrath of “the Guild.” Then there’s the homicide detective who needs her help figuring out who murdered the well-dressed corpse in the walk-in closet.
Nick’s got his own hands full with a tricky missing person case and his parents who want to know why he didn’t tell them about his live-in girlfriend. Then there’s the fact that he’s still the tiniest bit stressed about Riley almost getting murdered earlier that summer. The last thing he wants is her getting involved in another investigation.
Things go from bad to worse when the body count starts stacking up, the meet-the-parents dinner goes horribly wrong, and their elderly roommate is up to no good…dressed like a mime.
To top it off, Riley is forced to return to Channel 50 on official police business to question her spray-tanned news anchor ex-husband and his new weather girl fiancée.
The trouble comes to a head when Riley receives a warning from the killer: Back off or she’s next. Someone has to solve these murders before she becomes the next corpse.

unfortunately, i couldn’t get into this. i adored all the characters in book 1 but for some reason they’re all just really annoying now. the romance died out, just bc you’re already together doesn’t mean it can’t be interesting?? they went from sparks flying to 50 year married couple. the mystery was so very irrelevant bc we have no connection with the man that went missing so why am i supposed to care if he comes back or what happened to him. this is so sad but i still recommend the first book, the humour is amazing, and the characters are very lovable <33 in book 1, that is. you know it’s bad when I don’t even give a full review HAHAH. im really sorry btw ❤️🩹
thank you netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!!
… 🪷 pre-read
approving my request a week before the publish date, that’s just cruel. AND finding out it’s the second in a series 🙁
but my commitment knows no bounds bc I am running to download that first book 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️
Lucy Score is a Diabolical Genius!! Let's get that declaration that out of the way. she REALLY is a possessor of literary wizardry. I picture her with her unwashed writer hair standing on end, in standard author uniform of PJs & stained tee, hungry and stressed out, pumping her fingers on keyboard or her frustrated head in her hands. But what a plethora of facetious words that she has bound in a book. Made me hoot..no howl with laughter most of the time and shaking my head at some. Fantastic. Extraordinarily Ingenius writing with uncanny precision of humour. Lucy could TEACH a whole semester on writing Rom-com and I'd pay authors to go join and learn this exquisite art that Lucy does so effortlessly. Did I say Lucy Score is a Diabolical Genius!! This book starts as a next in misadventures of a hot dimpled cop and a cooky psychic, both of whom stole my heart. But wait for it. The ENTIRE side cast of characters, Esp Mrs Penny and Gabe are fantastic too. And the Fred's and Mr Willicot and Blossom and Jasmine and Eleanora had me in stitches. And there's a dog who eats human food and farts and a spite cow that jumps fences and glitter poops in the angriest neighbours yard.
“You stupid walking hamburger! I’m going to shoot you between the eyes and turn you into a roast!” the woman howled.
This edition of their escapade involves a serial killer and glitter-bombs. Hidden behind the words is the gruesome truth of social evils of the present times. The Karens. The keyboard warriors. The pissed off entitled snobs. The bullies who demean people. The dregs of the Internet-landia and the rabbit hole that is Instagram Influencer-ship. This diverse bracket of self-appointed moral police are now being hunted by the victim named Karma. Is it just- No! Is it reverse victimisation- yes! Would I recommend it in real life - Also NO!! But reading about it... Hell YEAH!! Booyah and Atta girl Lucy. Way to highlight the Angry mob mentality in your signature droll and whimsical style..I had so much fun reading it. I'm now going to read ALL YOUR BOOKS and pm you and nag you and tackle-hug you in Philly!! I'll be the girl with glitter...Jk...or am I?😈 5 stars for Lucy Score who is a Diabolical Genius Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻
This one is better than the previous book. Riley, Nick, and their hilarious gang are back in this fun, fast-paced read. The story picks up quickly after the first book, with Riley and Nick moving in together and another murder happening. Riley's psychic powers are front and center, thanks to her terrifying grandma's help, and she teams up with Nick's ex-partner to solve the case.
The family dynamics are a hoot, and the chemistry between all the characters is spot on. Riley and Nick make a great team both in their relationship and as crime solvers. This book is a perfect mix of romance and mystery, with lots of laugh-out-loud moments and sweet scenes. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in no time. If you need a good laugh and a smile, this is the book for you. Can't wait to see what happens next in the series!
Read this if you like: 🔮 Protective MMC 🔮 Funny banter 🔮 Murder mystery 🔮 Humorous misadventures 🔮 Quirky elderly characters
If you need an escape from reality, if you want entertaining antics, awesome banter, fantastic humor, fun mysteries, and a quirky but loveable cast of characters, then this is the book for you. I laughed myself silly while loving the crazy chaos that unfolded in Riley and Nick's lives. Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet was a hilarious delight and I had a blast reading it!
I was so excited to dive back into this world. The gangs all here from the first book plus some new ones too and I enjoyed them immensely. I loved all the different scenes and scenarios they created as well as some really priceless one-liners. There were so many great setups that had me laughing, I couldn’t get enough. Of course, there were some characters that stressed me out, so much so that I totally wanted to yell at them. Nick’s parents and Riley’s grandmother are something else and I liked the dynamic they created and I loved Nick’s attitude with them. I liked the mysteries being investigated, they were exciting and entertaining. I loved the building details and the hints and connections taking place as everything started to come together.
As far as the romance goes, this is a continuation of Nick and Riley’s happily ever after and how they're navigating this new phase in their lives. I loved the chemistry and playfulness between them. I loved Nick’s dry humor and Riley’s quick wit mixed in with just the right amount of sarcastic banter. It was great to see how much Nick has grown and how Riley is embracing her psychic side. They have a few bumps along the way but they're all light and fun and had me smiling. Nick and Riley trying to connect (wink!) over the course of the story had its own special slow burn happening that had me laughing out loud.
Everything wrapped up nicely and there was a great part at the end that already has me excited for the next book in the series. I can’t wait! This story had me grinning from beginning to end. Just to add, there are a lot of references to the first book in the series so if you haven't read it, I don't feel like you'd be lost reading this one. That being said, I'm all about reading in order so you definitely don't want to miss Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door.
Complimentary copy received from That's What She Said Publishing.
Psychic Riley Thorn, her boyfriend PI Nick Santiago, and gang are back with another mystery(s) to solve!
Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet is a light, fun, read which is full of antics, interesting characters and a farting dog! This is book #2 in the Riley thorn series and could be read as a stand-alone but the first book, Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door was an enjoyable read and I recommend reading it first.
I enjoy the banter between Riley and Nick. I enjoy both characters but especially Nick. I also like the fact that we get to meet Nick's family and Riley's grandmother makes an appearance. Oh, let's not forget the corpse in the closet!
I enjoyed this book this book but it lost a little of its magic for me. My one complaint is that this book didn't need to be this long. I think I would have enjoyed this book slightly more with the help of a little editing. Having said that, overall, this was an enjoyable light read which had me smiling in parts. This is also going to be a third book so I will be keeping my eye open for that.
3.5 stars
Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books | Bloom Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh. Em Gee. This book is fantastic! My favorite part is Jasmine and Riley giving Nick grief - Priceless! Day drinking, you gotta love it. But that is just one of many, many LOL scenes that will have you glued to this book - start to finish. Lovers of Janet Evanovich will definitely want to check out this series. Mystery, sexy couple, sarcastic LOL humor and you have no clue as to the ID of the baddie until they announce themselves. Love it!
The Corpse in the Closet is a nasty piece of work who has had a lot of work done. She is an "influencer" to the detriment of her family, but she doesn't have much of a following. When the police have no clue who killed her, Detective Kellen Webber calls Riley Thorne, Psychic Extraordinaire, for help.
Nick Santiago, PI, is still not over the incident in the fountain that left both Nick and Riley with bullet scars for souvenirs. He absolutely does not want Riley within spitting distance of a murder case. No way, not on his watch. But lucky for Riley, Nick just got a missing persons case to occupy him while Riley uses her gifts for good.
With her new live-in boyfriend, a house full of nosey neighbors and now acting as a Civilian Consutant for the police, the last thing Riley needs is her austere and scary grandmother, Elanora Basil, showing up demanding that Riley take her gift seriously and use it for the good of the community, The Guild. All too soon Riley comes to think maybe grandma has a point. If Riley could control her gift, she could make better use of it and right about now some insight into this killer would be very useful especially after two more bodies are found.
When the killer sends Riley a very specific warning, Nick will do anything, including teaming up with his ex-partner nemesis and asking scary granny's help, to protect her.
“He liked when she came close enough for him to reach out and grab her, to reassure himself she was real and breathing and his.”
this isn't even a bad 2.5 its a i wish i didn't take a whole ass week to read this kinda of ok. my main problem was that the plot(mystery/detective shit) was WAY more than the romance. i liked how balanced it was in book 1 but here? they kept getting interrupted, they just spent more time solving murders than actually doing the romancy things.
so for anyone who actually wants to read this book? don't take your sweet ass time like i did. finish it in 1 day or it'll drag.
i still LOVE the couple i still LOVE the family stuff and i still LOVE the plot, just wish we got equal amounts of everything.
i would actually only rec book 1 bc it was SO GOOD that obv the other books wouldn't compare.
Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet was an amazing, beautifully written read that was filled with incredible characters and hilarious moments. I more than loved it!
We have a psychic heroine, Hero that is a private investigator, their weird family members, an adorable cow named Daisy, and a dog named Burt who is as big as the cow and has a selective understanding of the English language. Mysteries, murders waiting to be solved, glitter bombs, ice cream loving guy that has a heart of gold, and of course my favorite, noisy and hilarious neighbors. All of that, and more, make this book one incredibly entertaining and unforgettable read that I cannot recommend enough!
I really liked the first book in this series. I still remember everything that happened in it even though I’ve read it more than ten months ago, and that is SO rare for me, but I loved this one even more. There wasn’t a single dull moment in it. If it was up to me, I would have finished it in one sitting. I didn’t want to part with it and I devoured every single page.
The romance wasn’t the main focus of the story and even though I’m usually hesitant to read books like that, here it worked perfectly for me. I didn’t even notice it until I started writing this review. I didn't feel like anything was missing.
Nick is so dreamy, I’m in love with him, and Riley is one of the most interesting heroines I’ve read about. And to say that the secondary characters were amazing and that I just loved them would be a huge understatement. I honestly have no words that could explain how incredible they were. All I can say is that I’m counting the days until I can read more about all of them again.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review✨
Another fun edition to the Riley Thorn series. I really love the world and characters Lucy Score is building in this series, and the narrator is so very good. Both Riley and Nick have a nice character and relationship arc and the supporting cast is fantastic. I'll be diving into book 3 shortly!
I was over the moon happy to have had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of a Lucy Score novel. Thank you SO MUCH, Sourcebooks, for providing me with this ARC. 😊
I am a little late in writing my review, but here we go!
This captivating, cozy mystery will keep readers engrossed from start to finish. The story follows Riley, a private investigator with a 'dormant' psychic ability, and Nick, a homicide detective, working together to solve a murder case. When Riley's grandmother arrives to encourage her to embrace her powers, she is unexpectedly pulled into the investigation...
Although this book differs somewhat from the author's previous works, it is just as good as her other books. While incorporating some romantic elements, it primarily falls under the mystery/thriller genre. The characters are wonderfully developed, and readers will quickly form a connection with them. The plot is intriguing, and there are even some humorous moments that will leave readers chuckling.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an entertaining, engaging read. 4ish stars! ✨
Riley Thorn, the reluctant psychic, is back with another murder mystery and I’m here for it.
Nick Santiago and Riley are now living together when Nick’s ex-partner and cop Kellen, asks Riley for help on a murder case of a social media wannabe influencer. While Riley’s working that case Nick takes on a missing persons job and things get wacky and that’s just the beginning of the hijinks
While I had some issues with the first book, overall I did enjoy it and for me, the screwball aspects balance out the seriousness of the murders and the romance continues to keep me engaged. The family and friends, and Burt the flatulent dog, continue to anchor this tale and keep me wanting more. While it’s better to read the first book, I think there is a decent amount of recaps given that it’s not imperative.
When the focus is on comedy, like anything else I suppose, it is subjective. What worked for me may not work for some. Also there’s a few dangling threads that are bugging me but I’m hoping for answers in the next book. There was one scene with a murder victim’s mother that hit as just mean and unnecessarily fat-shamey that stuck out and dipped my rating a bit but there’s a lot of real laughs and tender moments that I was able to look past it
If you’re in the mood for a romantic and wacky murder mystery, you may enjoy this.
I honestly love this series.. “the corpse in the closet” is the second instalment to the Riley Thorn detective series and it is a blast.
Firstly I love Riley and Nicks relationship, Nick really goes out of his way to do above and beyond boyfriend duties in this one as he navigates how to be in a romantic relationship. I’d say this book sways focus more onto their relationship than the first book and less so on the detective forefront but it didn’t feel like it was missing out on anything in the mean time.
I’m also a huge fan of Gabe the spiritual guide who is such a sweetheart. In this book we are also introduced to Riley’s grandmother and Nicks family as extra characters.
After solving multiple murders the book ends on somewhat of a (none threatening) cliff hanger leaving the door open for book number 3. I’m definitely intrigued and will be opting to continue this series.
These books are full of quirky characters, loopy neighbours, laugh out loud banter and inappropriate behaviour. They are the perfect combination of murder mystery, detective work, romance and satire.
Thank you to Lucy Score, NetGalley and Sourcebooks bloom books for the EARCS 🩷🩷
One of my favourite series! The second instalment in the Riley Thorn series was just as funny and witty as the first book.
This book was FILLED with humour, you cannot help but laugh through every single page. I was highly entertained throughout the novel and when I was done reading, I wanted more.
This novel follows the same set of characters from book one, just with another murder mystery. The plot was awesome and kept me guessing. The writing is very unique, its got a movie like quality to it which is very easy to picture. I wished the audio was released when the novel was because I would have enjoyed listening to the audio more.
There is going to be a third instalment! I am super hyped for it; cannot wait!
Entertaining! We get the same group of side characters that were in the first book. All of them add to the overall entertainment of the book. Nick was mostly non-committal in the first book so seeing him be more of a boyfriend and the jealousy he felt added to this second book. Riley is an awesome heroine and I also highly recommend the audiobooks. The narrator was superb!
Re-read July 2024 This really is a cute paranormal romance with a great cast of characters. It may go OTT with the silly for some people, but I really think it is a lot of fun.
Riley and her PI boyfriend Nick have a lovely relationship, even as they work out the kinks. I appreciate that they both communicate like adults, even after a mistake, which makes their relationship a stable ground on which all these silly secondary characters play.
My only quibble is that Riley needs to shake off the people pleasing tendencies - she allows herself to be bullied into all kinds of things she doesn't want to do. Fortunately, she stands up to grandma a bit at the end, or I'd have torn my hair out.
I don't know what it was that I enjoyed about the first book but it didn't translate here. I thought the first book had fun quirky characters that made me laugh but this one fell flat. The side plots definitely took the spotlight over the mystery and it just dragged on. Lots of the same jokes in the first book were just recycled throughout and it just got old.
This books are magnificent. It’s the second book in the series and I have to say it did not disappoint. It made me laugh, swoon and feel so many emotions. Nick and Riley are like the perfect couple, no miscommunication, no unnecessary fights, only pure love and bickering. Gave is like always the soft giant and madly in love with Wanda,Riley’s sister.I can only say: SHIP ITTTTTT. He makes me swoon so much, how can someone be so pure and kind. Mrs.Penny is like always the badass. The vibes she gives with her purple hair and attitude is hilarious and makes her so likeable. I can’t remember how often I had to laugh over her lines. The characters that also have a lot chemistry, are the lawyer and the police officer, also known as Jasmine and Keller. I don’t know why, but something just fits between the two of them. I have to say I really hoped I would finde a book about the two of them but sadly there isn’t one. So I Hope the next book will have more scene with the two of them together. So cross my fingers 🤞
The story was like always really entertaining and exciting. I can only recommend it.
For me this was better than the first book. It felt like Riley and Nick's relationship was more real and there was not as many ridiculous 'things' happening. Don't get me wrong, there were many over the top laugh your ass off things going on but they seemed to fit the plot better.
In this book Riley spends time developing her psychic powers so she can help the police catch a psycho that's sending glitter bombs to people then killing them.
I enjoyed the psychic camps Rileys Grandmother made them all do and oh, Gabe the gentle giant is just so cute! I was hoping he'd get together with Rileys sister and yay, it happened (kind of).
Another great Riley Thorn adventure is on the books!
This was a very cute romcom mystery book, and it was a very cute and needed pallet cleanse for me.
I absolutely love Riley and Nick together, their banter is top tier. I like that we got to see Riley working on her physic gifts more, and Gabe even helped too, and wasn't a COMPLETE embarrassment to Eleanor - as she says.
I can't wait to find out what happened with Beth, and what other crazy adventures Riley and Nick will get into in the next book.
Still really entertaining but this one was a little too over the top at times. I'm excited for the last one and I'm hoping it will be a tad more serious.
