Welcome to the NET – an Earth-like virtual-world, where you surf in person and every Earth hour is a full NET day. A place where you can spend long hours preparing for a test, and lose only a few Earth minutes; or, own a magnificent NET-estate, and entertain friends from all over Earth for a weekend - each of them would lose only a couple of Earth hours!
But strange phenomena begin to occur in the NET: Surfers suffer memory loss; NET facilities are being attacked; and a hacker is kidnapped to a mysterious site named Hell! Will Babel, the NET security unit, realize the real danger? Can fifteen-year-old Troy Bentley and his bio-computer and best friend, Flint, save the NET?

This is a well crafted story and I absolutely enjoyed reading it from start to finish. It's a captivating and gripping read that had me engaged from the beginning. The story flows from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional capability when it comes to storytelling. There's a profusion of well illustrated scenes that really make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that's something I really look for in a good book.
The story had every element a good story should have. An exciting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. This interesting and compelling work, as I said, had my attention from the start and there are twists and turns in this page turner that will take the reader on a very intriguing and compelling journey! Also, the writing style is uncomplicated which makes for an enjoyable read.
It's one of those stories that come along once in awhile that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I'm giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!
I'd highly recommend this read to all fans of the Science Fiction & Fantasy genre. It wouldn't surprise me if I saw this on the Silver Screen. This Sci-Fi adventure is creative, imaginative and ingenious!
As a Sci-Fi Junkie, I was seriously excited when this book was dropped in my lap. I had read everything I had in this category, time and time again and was running out of old shows to sustain the nerd like monster inside me.
I try so hard when I do book reviews not to give anything away, so that I do not ruin the story for anyone. I will apologize if there are any spoilers, I a simply excited about this one.
First, The many characters outlined in this story are brilliantly constructed and brought to life, These are people you run into everyday. People you know. Easily believed. The plot line flows easily, drenches the thirst for excitement, heavily in satisfaction.
As a sci-fi geek, its hard for things to live up to what I have already fallen in love with. I emerged myself in this one with an open heart - Not expecting much, but hopeful.
Soon I was drowning in the thrills it lead along the way, a 37 hour period seemed a lifetime of "For lack of a better word" AWESOME.
This story does not disappoint, does not fail to live up to the standard I hold sci-fi to be. It sucks you in from the first few words and leaves you craving for more at the end. I was sad that it was over. The story is set in the future, but the way its described, you, yourself can easily picture this being our world in the not to distant future. I definitely have vivid flashbacks, and fantasies of my own while surfing on the internet now.
This is a delightfully interesting, intense, keeps you on your toes, drags you in from the start and fumbles you fabulously through a world wonderfully described from the authors imagination.
I will no doubt be looking for more from Gur! I highly recommend you guys check this one out. Specially you shandee! My sci-fi geekish sister.
We have a future with NET, a computer world exact in every detail with the real Earth. Except time is accelerated. You might spend days surfing NET, but only hours would pass on Earth.
Troy Bentley is a brilliant young fellow, early teens with a self-aware computer named Flint. Together they surf NET, having devised means not traceable by the NET cops, Babel.
Flint is a precocious sort, even to doing things without Troy's knowledge. Like setting up an unknown world called Hell, modeled after the Religious version. He tracks those who write computer viruses and banish them to it for punishment.
The pair, along with Troy's little brother Adam and friend Maureen find that NET has been invaded by a hostile alien race they must battle to save Earth and the human face.
With everything going digital this book fit right into the whole digital age feel. In a world were you can surf in person and not loose time it sounded like a wonderful concept and the reason I drove into read this book.
I was disappointed the characters are well developed, the story line kept me interested and of course with any good book we had heroes and villains. I also enjoyed the way the author created this other world for me to run around in.
Overall a really good fast read with lots of action to keep you entertained. Plus if your into sci-fy and futuristic type worlds this is a must read.
An interesting adventure. Plenty of things going on. It has been a few years since reading it and it may be a bigger glimpse of things to come than I previously thought.
