Following the success of her Diary of a Romantica series, Celia Martinez returns to further explore love and all of its magnificent beauty.
In A Magnificently Ordinary Romance (AMOR), self-proclaimed hopeful romantic Celia Martinez poetically tells the story of a man and woman who fall in love too quickly, only to realize—rather chaotically—that they are coworkers who work in the same building. What do they do to overcome the situation? They write, but not to each other...
A charming and heartfelt exploration of love and miscommunication from young people healing, growing, and exploring love in all its forms, AMOR is a kind shoulder to lean on when your tired heart needs rest and understanding.
It gave me tears, but not sad ones. Hopeful tears. Tears of love and desire. This book felt like my chaotic, overthinking, hopeful, romantic brain was somehow magically put into words. Every page was like a mirror, reflecting the unspoken anxieties, the quiet joys, and the fierce, burning passions that often feel too big for a single heart. This book was so much more than pretty rhymes, it was a whole journey filled with love, longing, honesty, dreams. I highlighted so many lines, not just because they were profound, but because they felt like whispers from my own soul. With those poems, I felt less alone in such a lonely world.
Happy release day!!! Okay, so… I have only read ten pages at this point because I need to savor it… but I can’t wait any longer to leave my review because it literally only has two. From the poems I’ve read so far: WHAT THE HECK CELIA HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BE A POET IF YOU WRITE EVERY GOOD POEM??????? No words can describe how much I love your ryhmes. Favorite poet is a massive understatement. This is so beautiful and there’s no question the rest is too. I doubt you could manage writing anything that’s not a five stars to me. Edit now that I’ve finished- it in fact only took a day in a half: How did she get even better? Idk. Didn’t think it was possible. Amazing. I figure this is the time you’re most likely to see my review, so I’m just gonna add that I’d love to write a romance book about a poem from ‘dairy of a romántica vol. 1’ with your permission of course someday. Omg it’s the dream. It’s the one where the girl’s headphones blasted her and the guys favorite song after they’re been working up the courage to talk to each other at the library :) I’m a teenage girl btw on track to finish writing my first poetry collection next year. I wanted to tell you that your work is making my life with all I’m going through right now. Your podcasts, collections, and videos are everything. I’m so glad i found your poetry. Thank you so much for making it. Love love love. -Grace 💕
A delightful read. A masterpiece. Celia achieving immortality as a Poet. Thank you Celia for sharing your beautiful, poetic thoughts in this wonderful story.
"if you indulge in fearful thinking, how about a taste of hope? because happy endings for hopeless romantics will always be my favorite trope"
Watching the author actually read these poems is better than actually reading the poems. She has a very expressive face and every emotion is on them as she reads. This reminded me of what it felt like being in my late teens, early 20s.
What a beautiful collection of poems. Easily relatable and full of raw emotion. Celia did an amazing job with this one and I look forward to more poetry books from her.
I wiped myself dry, it's like a punishment, but I just followed my destiny. I know this sounds cheesy, but I feel like I don't feel alive. I wish you felt the same, but it's likeask you to love me in a second I don't want to force you or anything just tell me if you feel the same because I have to follow my path you are the love of those days of punishment just tell me how because you are my destiny @chacongab2
Celia Martinez has created something truly special with A Magnificent Ordinary Romance. This collection celebrates the everyday moments that so often get overlooked—the quiet cups of coffee, the gentle touches, the laughter that bubbles up in ordinary spaces—and turns them into something extraordinary. Her poetry is both intimate and universal, making you feel as though she’s writing straight from your own heart.
What I loved most is how the book balances light and shadow: the joys of love, the warmth of companionship, and also the ache of solitude. Martinez captures loneliness with honesty, but never leaves the reader in despair—always guiding us back to hope and connection.
It’s the kind of collection you’ll want to keep by your bedside, opening at random to find a line that grounds you or lifts you. Pure joy, tender reflection, and a reminder that love in its simplest forms is magnificent.
This line that stayed with me:
“Loneliness is not the absence of people, but the absence of someone who sees you.”
This book is a celebration of being seen, being loved, and finding beauty in the ordinary. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys romantic poetry
A Magnificently Ordinary Romance (AMOR) is exactly what its title suggests: beautifully understated, full of longing glances and stolen moments, and brimming with a kind of softness that creeps up on you. Told with intimacy and gentle humor, the poems feel like snippets from a diary, unguarded, honest, and quietly profound. The wordplay in the title is particularly clever, and there’s a sweetness in the subtle vulnerability in the characters' interactions.
That said, I found that the collection sometimes lacked poetic depth. While the emotions are sincere, the writing doesn’t always push beyond surface level observations, and some lines felt more like journal entries than refined poetry. I was hoping for more complexity in the language or imagery. Still, the book is charming in its honesty, and i think many readers will connect with it, especially fans of poets like Rupi Kaur, Amanda Lovelace, etc.
A perfectly ordinary book of poetry. It is somewhat reminiscent of Rupi Kaur in that most poems are simplistic in nature and do not breach emotional depths that are sustaining.
This is a poetry collection that is written in a dual POV about two people who fall in love – the poems alternate between the man’s perspective and the woman’s perspective. The book is essentially a romance that’s brought to life by poems that they are writing for one another. It was such a unique read as I’ve never read a poetry book that tells a full story like this one did. I’ve been following Celia’s poetry on Instagram for as long as I can remember and I think finding her page was what got me into poetry. Her first two books were phenomenal, and I’ve read her work repeatedly since they were released, so when she announced this one, I was so, so excited to get my hands on it. Needless to say, this book held up (and went far beyond) my expectations. I finished the book earlier this month and I’m already doing a re-read of it! I highly, highly recommend giving this book a read if you haven’t already. Check out her Instagram page if you want a little preview of what her writing is like as she does read alouds of some of the poems.
