Dana's love life is as bad as her green thumb... which is black as death itself. But maybe with enough effort, and a makeover, she can find Mr. Right.
In Un-Datable, physical therapist Dana Jamison comes to grips with her glaring lack of a love life. Her mother likens it to her ability to neglect a potted plant to death in less than two weeks. Her best friend thinks she needs to throw herself into the dating world and find herself an orgasm-buddy. Doggedly, she sets Dana up with one horrifically strange man after another with absolutely no success.
Until she matches Dana up with Dean Coulter, a hot young doctor who treats her like gold, feeds her Chinese, and makes her body sizzle with lust. Dana and Dean move from dating, to sex-capades, to nearly being a couple.
But there’s something missing--she’s not in love with Dean. Dana’s in love with Gus, the abrasive though handsome plant nursery owner who helps her in her hapless efforts to keep her potted plants alive, along with her hopes for a love life.
With the good doctor suddenly proposing and Gus turning the sexual heat up on her, Dana must decide which man is the one for her, before she loses them both.
I've been reading and writing paranormal romance, urban fantasy, erotica and fantasy for years. This month I finally got tired of the agent rejection forms. So now I'm trying out Kindle's Self Publishing system. I'm thirty-nine--for another few months, and chronically single. I live alone with my jack russel, Jack.
Besides reading steamy books about werewolves and vampires, I love Italian food, Ice cream and long drives...but only when someone else is driving.
This story starts out okay enough but ended up falling flat.
The characters were okay and weren't terribly developed but the story itself was kind of bland. They make Dana out to be this ugly girl since she doesn't wear makeup but she's gorgeous all dolled up and I really hated that.
Most of this story was about her relationship with Dean, which was based on sex. Gus was mentioned here and there. It was obvious she was interested and it was also obvious that she was mistaken in thinking he was gay. Dana seemed to be a bit dumb. Her relationship with Gus was rushed and There was no timeline or any indication of how Gus felt until he all the sudden decided to pursue her. AND Gus was really shy in the beginning but out of nowhere he's confident and outgoing? It's like he morphed into a completely different person without any explanation. There was a huge gap in his character development. It just seemed incredibly rushed and everything developed very suddenly. It was an interesting storyline but poorly executed.
I didn't make it past the fifth chapter. The heroine comes off as pathetic, hyper-emotional, and immature. The hero is described as looking "scared", "terrified," and so on at the sight of the heroine. He's afraid of her because she nearly killed a plant? And the heroine hates him for ... well, I never quite figured out why. He seemed like a perfectly nice (albeit easily frightened) guy. He never came across as making fun of her or anything else she seems to think, but she hates him.
Side characters ... the mother is horrible, the best friend is crass and tacky, the ex-boyfriend is disgusting.
Plot ... by chapter five, the main theme is trying to keep the plant alive.
DNF (Did Not Finish) this one. I just didn't like anyone or anything about it. Would not recommend it to anyone.
I hate giving low ratings for books. As an author, I know how much it sucks to read them.
However, there are two reasons my rating is so low... One is that there were numerous typos and grammar issues, mispellings that could easily have been fixed with a find and 'replace all', and words that were used so wrong that it jarred me constantly from the story.
But the story itself was entertaining enough that I was able to sigh and move on, because I wanted to know what happened, was drawn to the inevitable end, where love won the day and the girl gets the right guy.
Only the right guy didn't get got, IMHO, and the wrong guy, who started out sweet and nice and a little bit shy turned into an uber-alpha and a total ass at the end, which REALLY threw me for a loop.
Ever been so pissed off at the end of a book that you wanted to throw it across the room? Well, these days, with so much digital, I couldn't do that. So I had to satisfy myself with punching my hapless pillow, grumbling into my blankets, and going to sleep.
I woke up, still pissed off.
Your mileage may vary.
Like I said... this was a very entertaining book, right up till the end, for me. Sorry to Mercy Walker, and I WILL be reading more of her stuff because I really liked the main part of the book. But one, you truly need an editor, and two... ARGH!!!! REALLY??????
I was really enjoying this book until the ending. Because I felt there was no ending. It ended at 88% and the rest was a preview of a new book. But beyond that, the storyline finished so abruptly. There was so much more to tackle. I did enjoy it up until then. It had me laughing a lot -- it was like Seduction and Snacks..... Taken down about 10 notches. Not sure Lucy was making the right choices. And couldnt tell because of how the story ended. But it was funny & hot just the same. I'd definitely reread if the author did a rewrite of the end.
I really enjoyed this book and the authors style of writing. The plot was interesting and amusing I found myself smiling many times. I am glad it all worked out for Leah in the end!
My one gripe is that the characters didn't appear to know the meaning of 'foreplay'.
Argh! I've me a break! There a few LOL moments but the spelling errors were doing my head in!!! Seriously hope it was a freebie and I didn't spend any money on it.
I was disappointed about several things. First, so many typos that could have been easily fixed. Second, I felt like parts of the story were rushed, which left out details that would have been a nice addition to the book. Gus could have used a little more background information for the reader to get to know him better. Ozzie and Harriet had way more spotlight on them than Gus did. I didn't enjoy him going from a nice shy guy to an alpha male jerk. Dean was an amazing guy and didn't get what he deserved in the end. Bess was just a little too much sass but she was entertaining anyway. We never get a diagnosis for Dana and her "fainting" spells. We never read anymore about the neighbors spying with binoculars or the UPS package. I felt like there were a lot of holes in the story. I really wanted to like it more.

It wasn't as polished as Dark Surrender, Mercy Walker's paranormal romance, but it was very enjoyable. There were a couple times when the tense switched (I laugh, instead of I laughed) or the wrong word was used (witch one? instead of which one) but I think all of that is less important than a good story and this was that. If all authors were editors, all books would be manuals. The female lead, Lucy, and the supporting friend, Bess, were a riot together. I cared about them. I wished they were my friends. I liked both the men, Dean and Gus, and honestly I don't know how I would have picked between them either. Setting was rich and real and contemporary. Lucy's life had a lot in it, not just girl meets boy. I did not want to see a girl like that settle, not that a successful, handsome, young doctor with a big c%&k would be settling. SPOILER ALERT
This book did not go where I thought it would and I enjoyed that. With the exception of the dream sequences, there was no menage at all. The name of the book and the character's obsession with two good men made me think it was going to be THAT kind of read. All the sex scenes were with the man she DOESN'T pick. That is not conventionally a choice for romance novels. I think one of the rules is that the heroine can't be in a physical relationship with someone besides the hero of the book. It worked though. Good for you, Mercy! Buck the conventions if it suits the story. This book is about Lucy figuring out who she is, who she wants to be, and who she wants to be with. She just happens to meet one too many perfect men at the same time. This was her journey and I was glad to be along for the ride.
The story leaves so many holes for me... I mean she falls in love with a character you barely see and leaves the one the writer makes sure you fall for! The doctor, Dean appears all the time, is sweet, caring and super hot. Then Gus appears what? Three times to save the plants and a couple more for therapy and bam! He's the man. They don't even have a real talk.
Her family story is so confusing, would have great if the author gave us more or nothing at all. It had more potencial than what we read. Her friend was great but then I was off by the way her friend keep sending creepers to her or how she just knew stuff. Uhm there are some things not even a best friend knows like that!
So yeah she end it so fast and I gelt she really made a bad choice with the guy
This book is had me laughing at several points, normally about Dana and her plants. Never did I think plants would be so funny!! Well, Dana has as much of a green finger as me so I could totally relate to her. Don’t get me wrong, the book is not about plants though, hehe. Dana has really bad luck when it comes to dating, her mother likens her relationship with men to that of her plants, never going to happen. She is work focused and far too busy to think about men. That is until her friend sets her up with a hot doctor. He is every woman’s dream. Treats her well, takes her out and gets her all hot and bothered. But something is missing. A really great read. Comical, sexy and intense. Loved it.
I enjoyed the story and the characters a lot. Parts of the book were hard to read, however. There were a ridiculous amount of spelling errors (lots of 's where it should have been just s), and inconsistencies (the heroine is treating a football players so he can play in the Superbowl, and the next day it's a cool evening for summer). An editor is BADLY needed!
Had an editor been consulted I would have rated the book 4 stars. If you can put up with all the mistakes, it's worth a read.
Hated the first chapter. It was all about a dying plant, which I guess the author used to symbolize the heroine's love life. I tried to make it through the next two chapters in hopes that something would finally keep my interest, but low and behold- more dying plant!!WTF. I had to stop on chapter four. I wasn't sure what the story was about and by that point in a story I need to see a love interest and a plot so I won't be finishing this one.
What a great read.. Didn't want to put this down... Loved the dynamic between mother and daughter and friends... But most of all I loved how Lucy thought everyone was gay.. Have to say though it seemed as though there should have been more but the book ended so abruptly that it fell a little flat for me
Laughed through out. Lucy and Bess were a riot. What the hell did Lucy wear that she kept getting mistaken for a lesbian? I wonder what would happen if I walked into a bar and ordered Bess' favorite drink. Great character interaction. A bit of spelling errors but nothing major. Definately worth the time.
Loved this book, thought from the start she would end up with Gus but was shocked when the doctor came on the scene. It had a lot of twists throughout but I loved the ending as she ended up (to me) with the right guy from the start.

A very funny erotic read. I loved Lucy's neurotic behaviour and her bff Bess was a riot! I thought the love triangle with Dean and Gus was great and I'm glad she ends up with the right one!
I really enjoyed this story, it's very funny with some great characters. Found the ending a little rushed though. Hoping there will be a story for Bess eventually!
