I am a knight. To be precise, I am the Church of the God of Light’s Sun Knight.
The Church of the God of Light worships and serves the God of Light, and theirs is one of the three largest religions on this continent.
As the whole continent knows, the Church of the God of Light has the Twelve Holy Knights, and each one has his own unique personality and features.
To be the Sun Knight is to have shining golden hair, sky blue eyes, a compassionate nature, and a brilliant smile.
“The benevolent God of Light will forgive your sins.”
I must have said that line at least a million times in my time as the Sun Knight.
However, the greatest wish in my life is to be able to stand before the entire continent and roar, “Damn your ‘the whole continent knows’! This Sun Knight just doesn’t feel like smiling! I just don’t want to forgive these human trashes! I just want to pepper my sentences with ‘f***’!”
Unfortunately, even to this day, I continue to wear a smile as I say, “The benevolent God of Light will forgive your sins.”

I am crying, The Legend of the Sun knight book series is just too perfect? And yes, it also has a manhua adaptation that covered the first two volumes perfectly, but you should still read these books.

I don't remember the last time i laughed so much when it came to high fantasy? The ideas, the characters, the main character's POV? All of it is hilarious, sarcastic, and just freaking amazing? I cannot even begin to describe the lunacy and greatness of this book.

This story made a new definition of stereotypes. 12 knights, who are supposed to follow the stereotype of their respective original knight's personality, traits, appearance and even daily duties and speech, have to stay true even to their mutual relationships.

These books follow the journey of the Sun Knight, the most graceful, charismatic, merciful, elegant and kind knight who is everything not described here. He is the sheer opposite of the personality he is supposed to play. So what happens, when a Death Knight appears - a raised corpse who has a goal he needs to fulfill in order to rest in piece - and says he will come back for the Sun Knight? Well, that puts our Sun Knight as a prime suspect of the Death Knight's grugde.

How to deal with it? Find a necromancer.

► CHARACTERS:

EDIT: After finishing all volumes, I decided to expand this review a bit with the character section. I will put their names under spoiler tags so you can find out eventually as you read!

Warm faction:

◈ Grisia Sun: the actual main character, who is expected to be the most elegant, graceful (even when dying or falling down the stairs or fainting), always smiling, benevolent and kindhearted is actually sadistic, grudge holding, sarcastic, unrelenting, brave, dedicated, overprotective and kind towards the people he loves, but he would also use every opportunity to make them owe him favors, do his work and just be lazy in general. He also wants a girlfriend, badly. His best friend is Judgment Knight, who is supposed to be his biggest enemy as he is the leader of the Cold faction and does everything opposite of the Sun Knight. And yet, these two are the true besties, unlike him and Earth, who are supposed to be "besties" but are actually the biggest enemies.

◈Ceo Storm: is supposed to be carefree, never to appear, big flirt with women, always to wink in their presence (also has to dye his hair into blue) but is in actuality a big work a holic and will probably die from correcting all of the documents they throw at him. If he was gone the whole church would colapse!

◈ Georgo Earth: the "honest" and "loyal" and "friend" of the Sun Knight. You can scratch the honest part, because his words are more poisonous than Metal's! He hates Grisia with passion!

◈ Elmairy Leaf: An archer and the nicest person there is. Too interesting that his personality actually matches the first Leaf knight. A mother to the team in a way (but unlike Ice being one), he supports everyone and would do anything for them. Also worries a lot.

◈ Demos Cloud: A drifter who is always there, even when you don't see him. He usually reads books and is librarian, knows all, is super great swordsman and very hard to find. His tragic past allowed him to find peace in duties of the Cloud knight.

◈Chikus Blaze: Another knight whose real personality matches perfectly with the personality of the first knight. He is hot tempered, loves breaking doors (but some doors should never be broken) and specializes in cleansing spirits. Loves Sun Knight with passion. Worries a lot and regrets a lot if he hurts someone by accident.

Cold-hearted faction

◈ Lesus Judgement: The leader of the cruel faction. He must never forgive criminals and must exact punishment on them or give the order for it. The criminals must never be forgiven. Yet, it's a duty and personality that is opposite of what he is: trully kind hearted, brother figure, that cares a lot about his brothers and would never abandon any of them, no matter what the cost. He is the only one the Sun Knight will listen to.

◈ Ecilan Ice: supposed to be always calm, collected, and never to show any emotions, and yet he loves summer because he can make people eat his sweets and ice cream, actually feeds the team and is their actual mother figure.

◈Vival Moon: Arrogant, narcissistic and acts like no one is good enough to be in his presence. Actually would do anything for his team (after a bit of persuasion (for example, dealing with Metal's situation on Judgment's query). Only wants a girlfriend who is higher than him.

◈Laica Metal: The knight whose words are supposed to be so bad, that they are poisonous and offensive always. Yet, the problem is that when he tries to do it, he gives out compliments and when he is not trying, he actually succeeds in making people bleed from his words. He gets happy every time someone tells him he was offensive! Not to mention that he hides a deep insecurity that he solves by having a certain tendencies that Moon and Judgment help him out with. idolizes Judgment wayyyyyyyyy too much.

◈ Aivis Stone: As first knight was so stubborn, so should be all of his successors. Yet this Stone is so stubborn for believing that he is not stubborn that he actually fits well with his role.

◈ And finally, the Hell Knight: a shadow Knight who is said to be the shadow of the Sun Knight, but he is never around that some of them think that he doesn't even exist and that he is in actuality, actual Sun Knight's alter ego! Even though he belongs to the cruel cold faction, he answers dirrectly to the Sun knight.

◈ Adair: Grisia's vice captain. will always defend Grisia from anything, is completely loyal, omnipotent, dedicated, and would do anything to keep Grisia safe. Grisia doesn't deserve him, honestly.

◈ Pink: a necromancer that is over two tho- very young girl who is contracted by a church to make undead for the Sun Knight to have something to went out his frustrations on, because the Sun Knight hates nothing more than undead creatures! She is mysterious, filled with many secrets, and hides them well. She has an agenda that may or may not endanger everyone...

◈ Mysterious Death Knight: a resurected person who holds a grudge against the living. To become Death Knight, one must suffer extreme regret/injustice and the only way to kill them or save them is by burning them to the second death, or find the cause of his regret. So why does he want to kill the Sun Knight? Well....

Thankfully the series is over, and I recommend it to anyone (ofc i haven't read it on chinese, but it's too perfect, you should try it if you want something for a change).

I wish I had enough time to express the perfection that is the Sun Knight, but it would take me days to convey a fraction of his brilliance onto paper (or internet paper in this case).

All you need to know is that this book is about the practioners and representantive of a religion that has very, very strict rules and commands absolute commitment of the chosen ones. Sun Knight and the rest of the knights each have an example to set and they cannot stray from the path for any reason. If that means you need to fall off 300 stairs gracefully or wink to ladies to the point your eyes do not function anymore, then so be it!

Be that as it may, what happens when Sun Knight, the most brilliant of all gets implicated in a crime that would simply destroy his Church? How can he act within his confinements? But of course... gracefully! That's the only way he can and will act!

The translation of this book was great and even if I don't know Chinese, I am sure they got the vibe 100%, because I couldn't stop laughing throughout the whole book. I am only wondering what the rest 7 volumes have to offer since this seemed a one-off!

The first book, Introduction to Knight Theory, covers the Sun Knight's search to uncover the truth behind the recent birth of a death knight (undead). Death knights are born when a person dies with an extreme obsession (such as injustice or resentment, and nothing petty either) who is raised by a necromancer. The death knight will not stop until their obsession/revenge is completed or until they are put to rest, via second death and burning, by those from the Church of Light.

It's a funny, high fantasy (e.g. magic, swords, and knights), adventure novel. Mostly funny. It's classified as young adult, and while I don't disagree, I don't think I've read any book like this before. Since it's a light novel, it's also extremely easy to read. It doesn't have any romance (maybe bromance?), but it does a pretty good job of holding my attention.

On the topic of the translation, it's a pretty good translation (not like I can compare it to original though), but it does suffer from some flow issues. The prose is a bit clipped and somewhat flat. At times, it reads a bit like a report rather a story. I should mention though that I've read the other novel translations, and the translation is much smoother. Besides a couple things here and there, I hardly notice that the later books are actually translations. Still, the first book translation is still an enjoyable read.

Having the read the manhua adaptation (which followed the novel rather faithfully) prior to reading the novels, took a lot of the punchlines out of the jokes in the book, but it was still very amusing.

Nearly all of the (holy) knights in this book have to maintain the image of their particular knight role, leading to some rather funny split personalities.

For instance, the Sun Knight, is known by everyone on the continent to be "perfect," with a constant dazzling smile and a kind forgiving personality who has an unwavering devotion to the God of Light, so much so that nearly every sentence he speaks expresses praise for the God of Light.

The reality is, the Sun Knight is extremely vengeful and sneaky. He is sometimes petty and rather jealous of men who are able to have girlfriends, because everyone knows that the Sun Knight is completely devoted to the God of Light that even the most beautiful naked maiden cannot sway his eyes. Hahaha.

I enjoyed pretty much all the characters, even some of the bad ones (with the exception of the king). I especially liked the Sun Knight and his natural predisposition/desire to be a cruel person in complete contrast to his public personality. He's also rather shameless, instead of angsty self-loathing, which I found to be refreshing. I LOVE characters with a streak of mean, but recognize it for what it is and isn't ashamed of it.

Why it didn't get 5 stars: While super funny, it's extremely light hearted (almost shallow) and somewhat too easy. Being the first novel, the world building and names at times could be a bit on the confusing side. Don't get me wrong, I loved this book (I was giggling like a manic constantly), but it falls slightly short of "amazing."

Sun Knight is not your Typical everyday knight. He is the epitome of elegance, the kindest, his list of qualities are long. But underneath his mask of perfection lies a cynical, sarcastic man.

The Book was a refresher to me, I was so attuned to mediocre fantasies that this book blindsided me. Most fantasy books will either have good hero, decent plot, good humor or decent adventure. This book has it all. Most of all, It has a Non-OP hero.

Character development and world building is on another level. Yo Wo takes into consideration our inability to keep up with all the characters and she introduces the characters very slowly and gives every important charcters unique features. All the characters and relatable and likable.

Story is simple and straightforward. Best thing about the book was the friendship between Judgement and Sun. They are polar opposites, but they get along amazingly and is very nice to read. Next best thing is the inner dialogue of our protagonist. His is so witty and sarcastic.

Highly recommended for fantasy lovers.

Aku kira novel Chinese itu selalu full of poetic yang kadang sulit dimengerti. Ga nyangka ada yang segila ini!!

Novel ini bercerta tentang 12 Kesatria Suci [Holy Knight] di bawah naungan kepercayaan Dewa Cahaya aka God of Light. 12 Kesatria ini sejak awal diajari oleh guru mereka masing-masing untuk berkepribadian yang sama seperti apa yang dipercayai masyarakat akan gelar Ksatria yang dimilikinya. Misalnya, Ksatria Earth yang harus jujur, Ksatria Storm yang selalu bolos pertemuan dan suka main mata dgn wanita, Ksatria Judgement yang selalu kejam dan dingin dalam perkataan dan perbuatan mengadili hukuman penjahat...

Tapi ternyata, masing-masing kesatria sebenarnya punya kepribadian lain! Earth yang jujur dan punya tampang kayak anak kecil ternyata seorang playboy, Judgement yang sering menghukum penjahat sampai berdarah2 ternyata dia sendiri tidak tahan utk lihat darah dan selalu muntah setelahnya, Storm yang selalu bolos n carefree sebenarnya adl seorang pekerja keras... Masing-masing spt punya kepribadian ganda!

Cerita berpusat pada tokoh Aku yang memiliki gelar Ksatria Sun. Ksatria Sun yang dipercaya selalu mengampuni dosa para manusia sebusuk apapun itu, ternyata di dalam hatinya ia ternyata mengatakan 'Dewa tidak akan mengampuni dosamu, you son of b****!" Tapi karena gambaran Ksatria Sun adalah baik dan selalu tersenyum, Sun tentunya tdk bisa mengeluarkan kepribadian aslinya begitu saja.

Utk volume satu ini, konfliknya adalah ketika Sun bertemu teman masa kecilnya yang telah mati dan berubah menjadi Death Knight yang ingin membalaskan dendam pada yang membunuhnya yang ternyata adalah Raja dari negri itu sendiri. Di sini, Sun dilema; apakah harus membantu Roland si Death Knight sahabat baiknya semasa kecil, atau melindugi Raja kejam yang merupakan tanggung jawabnya sebagai Sun Knight.

Secara keseluruhan, plot ditulis dengan baik, karakter Sun juga sangat pas, fresh jokes. Well, as I said before: ternyata novel Cina ada yang segila ini!

Пора создавать отдельную полку на ГР с пометкой ранобэ) Чет я зачастила их читать.
А вообще - мне оно понравилось больше чем маньхуа. И советую я именно ранобэ почитать. Позволяет больше въехать в ход истории и мышление героев. Я умудрилась это понять в маньхуа только благодаря многолетнему опыту хд)
Пошла читать второй том. Тонна юмора и сарказма ждет меня)

Being the perfect, charming, powerful sun knight is not easy, not easy at all! Outwardly flawless the poor guy actually inwardly struggles to maintain the standard as the best most awesome knight of them all. This series is actually quite funny and you become fond of the awesome MC, he really kicks ass! The other knights with their quirky personalities and interactions also add a lot of fun to the story.

It’s 5 stars because any knight who practices dying in a graceful pose is worthy of it! It’s hilarious! It also reflects on society on a larger scale with respect to social media and religion. People tend to upload a perfect happy life on social media while hiding imperfections. The MC tries to show the perfect image to recruit the commoners towards the Sun of Light. He constantly chants the mantra when out in public.

Ban đầu mới đọc tập 1 thì mình còn ngơ ngáo chưa hiểu hết định nghĩa thần điện ánh sáng, điện thánh, mười hai thánh kỵ sĩ, kỵ sĩ hoàng gia, bla bla... Nhưng dần dần theo bước chân Grisia thì những thứ ấy trở nên rất quen thuộc với mình. Chỉ mới tập 1 mà đã cuốn hút đến vậy, các tập sau chắc chắn càng hề hơn nữa =)))

Đây là một bộ truyện đọc đến đâu là cười đến đấy, nhịn cười là có ngày sặc chết trong ánh sáng ấm áp của thần Ánh sáng và cái nhìn âu yếm của Sun Knight mất :)))

Phải nói đây là bộ fantasy mình yêu thích nhất trong năm nay. Ai là fan của fantasy thì mình nghĩ nhất định phải thử đọc “Mệnh kỵ sĩ”. Series này được đánh giá hơn 4 sao trên Goodreads.
Mình biết đến “Mệnh kỵ sĩ” khá muộn. Tình cờ được bạn cho mượn đọc thì mình mới biết là có một bộ fantasy hay như thế mà mình lại chưa hề nghe đến. Lúc mình đi tìm mua thì tập 1 của series này không còn bán trên các sàn thương mại điện tử nên mình phải lặn lội lên các group bán sách cũ, và cuối cùng cũng tìm được người bán đủ bộ.

“Mệnh kỵ sĩ” là câu chuyện kể về cuộc sống và tình đồng đội của 12 thánh kỵ sĩ. Truyện được kể theo ngôi thứ nhất, đứng dưới góc nhìn của Sun Knight. Có hai điểm mình thích nhất ở series này:

- Truyện cực kì hài hước. Mình đảm bảo cho dù tâm trạng của bạn có đang chìm sâu trong hố đen tăm tối hay tuyệt vọng thế nào thì đọc bộ này xong không thể nhịn cười được. Văn phong của tác giả này vô cùng đặc biệt. Nó khiến độc giả đọc đến đâu cười đến đấy, đứng ở chỗ đông người thì đúng là khổ luôn (chắc tại đang đọc sách mà đột nhiên cười há há thì sợ mọi người nghĩ mình điên quá :))) Đọc nhiều truyện hài rồi nhưng đây là bộ fantasy duy nhất khiến mình cười mất kiểm soát như thế :))))

- “Mệnh kỵ sĩ” không chỉ đơn thuần là giải trí mà nó đem đến cho mình rất nhiều ý nghĩa về việc con người phải đeo lên một chiếc mặt nạ khác với tính cách bên trong, về khả năng lãnh đạo, về tình đồng đội, về đức tin, thậm chí là cả những sự thật đằng sau câu chuyện dũng sĩ giệt rồng, giải cứu công chúa, đánh bại ma vương,…

Ngoài ra thì hình thức truyện rất đẹp, bên trong được vẽ minh họa nhìn thích lắm.
Truyện rất dễ đọc, phù hợp với những ai yêu thích fantasy và khao khát có được những trận cười xả láng nhé.

I loved this. To be honest I’ve read this before and it’s still just as hilarious as I remembered. Sun has such an amusing voice and the dual personalities of everyone just makes things better. Judgement Knight is so sweet on Sun, he lets him get away with everything. Well, I guess all the Knights do. He's the perfect Sun Knight after all.
