Catch a Falling Star is a heartfelt story about love, redemption, and finding the courage to live life on your own terms. The chemistry between Lyra, a wedding photographer, and Guy, a former rockstar turned wedding singer, brings plenty of charm to the story. Their emotional connection and the way they help each other heal from past wounds were genuinely moving.

I appreciated the book’s themes of self-discovery and second chances. However, I did find some of the family dynamics difficult to connect with. Guy’s estranged relationship with his family felt unresolved, and Lyra’s toxic sibling dynamic lacked any real growth or accountability, which made those storylines feel unsatisfying. Additionally, while I enjoyed the emotional journey, I felt that the portrayal of certain topics, such as sex work, could have been handled with more sensitivity.

That said, the book still offers an emotional, slow-burn romance with an engaging premise and relatable themes of resilience. Though it didn’t fully hit the mark for me, Catch a Falling Star will likely appeal to readers who enjoy emotional romances about healing and finding love after loss.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️(4.5/5)

"Catch a Falling Star" is the kind of cozy romance that makes you want to wrap yourself in a blanket, grab some hot cocoa, and read until sunrise.

This book has everything I love:
✨ Grumpy x Sunshine—because a broody, life-worn ex-rockstar and a warm, free-spirited photographer? That’s a perfect combo!
✨ Forced proximity—wedding season keeps throwing them together, and it’s absolutely delicious.
✨ Second chance romance—Guy and Lyra had a moment in the past, but fate (and the author) decided they deserved another shot.

The story beautifully balances laugh-out-loud moments (Guy as a wedding MC? I was in tears!) with real emotional depth. It’s about second chances, self-acceptance, and finding your place in the world—even if the journey is messy.

The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars? Some of the family drama felt unresolved, and I wished for a bit more depth in certain conflicts. But honestly, that didn’t take away from the overall magic of the book.

Final verdict: If you love rom-coms with a perfect mix of humor, heart, and unforgettable characters, Catch a Falling Star is an absolute must-read!

Thanks NetGalley and author for that perfect ARC

“I’m trapped in this dungeon, with no way out, and my tortured soul has been repressed by a woman who is my opposite in every way. From the way she loves and is loved, to her willingness to put others before even her own happiness. She’s the sun to my storm cloud and she should be repelled by me, yet everything inside me is fuelled by her warmth. And I… Damn it, I want more.”

The way this book made me want to curl into feral position in a corner and cry but yet also rage to the point where I hated all men. You know a book is good when it makes you feel your highest highs, and your lowest lows. Ugh this damn book. There were points when I was looking up the British lingo and word because I was like “What the hell does that mean…” but in all honesty this book was spot on for a great romance with a lot of heartbreak.

The book opens up with “The Night” seven years in the past, with Lyra at a concert with her best friend. Feeling absolutely care free because she finally decided to live life for herself and leave the medical program and finally follow her dreams of being a photographer. Lyra and her friend are having the time of their life and when one of the singers to the band asks for her to come back stage, her friend makes her go for it. I mean this is the guy she has been obsessing over, this is Guy, singer of The Hand Me Downs, she has to go, right? Feeling high on life she decides to go. Then on the way to the dressing room she gets a call that will change her life forever.

Fast forward seven years and we learn that Lyra is now a wedding photographer and living day to day with helping her family out and is the photographer for her sisters hen party (bachelorette party is what we call it in the states) and she gets stuck on an elevator with a rugged looking man, who she swears is the man she was suppose to meet “That Night” seven years ago. She brushes it off as there is no way it can be him, even though he shares the same name, Guy.

After the party is over she finds herself outside with Guy and realizes she is definitely attracted to him, even though he is extremely standoffish and downright rude. Things happen that lead to her kissing him and this is the moment when both of their lives change forever.

I don’t want to give away too much but this was one of the best second chance romances I have read. There were moments when you really wanted to hate Guy but then also find yourself feeling completely helpless for him and how his life has turned out and root for him to get his act together and realize he needs to stop living in the past.

Lyra was always trying to be happy go lucky and when she finally decided to stand up for herself against her family, sister and even Guy I was fist bumping for my girl. Absolutely loved this story and the characters you meet.

“She’s my longest day of the year. My favourite day of the year. And she’s pulling me in like gravity. A force I can’t see, one that’s hard to explain, but it’s real, it exists, and I’m powerless to stop it.”

Catch A Falling Star is a beautifully written, emotional, and witty romance. It is dual POV following Lyra, a former med student turned wedding photographer, and Guy, a former rock star. After a missed connection 7 years ago on a life altering night for each of them, they have a chance meeting that, once again, changes each of their lives. From the very beginning, I was drawn into each character’s journey through emotional struggles, past trauma/loss, familial drama, and personal growth. The characters had great chemistry and a great balance of heartfelt moments, banter, and tension between them. Overall, it was a really cute, swoony story of love and redemption that I just couldn’t put down! Will definitely be checking out more books by this author. Thank you to Laura Carter, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest review.

This cute romance story had me feeling happy and smitten while reading it!! Love came back around between these two, which had me feeling all giddy. It is a well written romance book. This love story also had me laughing and feeling cheerful.

Catch a Falling Star is about a girl named Lyra and a boy named Guy. They first met each other when they were both younger and she was watching him in a band on stage. She was at his concert. As time went on, they met each other again. This time, she is a wedding photographer and he is just looking for somewhere to perform. They form a bond and one thing leads to the next in the heartwarming romance! I give this book a 4.25/5 star rating!!

This book was an absolute delight to read. It was incredibly charming, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. The second chance romance, the forced proximity, and the slow burn—all of these elements are what I love most in a romance. Wow I loved this book. It was just so addictive to read. I loved Lyra and Guys relationship with each other and also friends and family. It was beautifully written that shows scars from the past can be turned into something more and how Lyra and Guy helped each other through that was heartwarming.

The story was about finding love in unexpected circumstances. It’s a perfect read for any romcom lovers, well written and addictive, also a great read for any music lovers. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC, don’t miss this one when it is released in April.

This book is a heartwarming, laugh-out-loud second-chance romance. The witty banter, sizzling chemistry, and emotional depth made it hard to put down.

At the heart of the story are Guy and Lyra—two characters with a connection that refuses to fade. Guy, with his charm and rugged appeal, is impossible to resist, while Lyra’s fiery personality and sharp wit make her an unforgettable leading fmc. Their dynamic is electric, filled with tension, playful exchanges, and just the right amount of angst to keep readers hooked.

Carter’s writing is engaging, weaving in moments of comedy that balance the emotional stakes beautifully. Whether it’s awkward run-ins, sarcastic quips, or unexpected situations, the humor never feels forced and adds a refreshing lightness to the story.

Catch a Falling Star is a deeply satisfying romance about forgiveness, growth, and the magic of rekindled love. It had all the feels from the start. Their second-chance romance feels authentic, with just the right amount of obstacles and swoon-worthy moments.

For readers who love a romance that makes them laugh out loud and swoon, this book is a must-read. Laura Carter has crafted a story that’s equal parts entertaining and heartfelt, proving that sometimes, love is worth a second shot.

Thankyou to net galley and Laura Carter for letting me arc read this beauty. Absolutely loved it!

Thank You NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book :)

Lyra grew up with the expectation that she would become a doctor and follow in her sister and parents' footsteps. Guy was once a rockstar in a famous band. One night they almost meet, when both of their worlds are shattered and changed forever. Now both of them are leading lives that neither expected. Lyra is a wedding photographer and Guy is a wedding singer, and as their paths cross again, they are both forced to face that Night and decide how they are going to live moving further.

This was such a cute story of two people helping to heal and encourage one another to be their best selves. I loved the storyline and the love story between Lyra and Guy. Their love story was about overcoming their pasts, and learning how to help each other be their best selves in the present. I loved how their stories intertwined with their families and friends adding another dynamic to their characters. Any romance lover will love this book and fall in love with Lyra and Guy! 3.5 Stars from me :)

I have been lucky enough to read some great books this year. That being said, you know the books that having you yelling at the characters when they are doing something stupid? Or saying out loud “It’s about time!”
This was one of those books.

The night they were supposed to meet, you guessed it, they didn’t. Then they had a not so meet-cute in a stalled elevator.

I experienced so many emotions reading this book, and that’s a good thing. All that being said, if you believe in second chances against almost impossible odds, you may just enjoy “Catch a Falling Star” as much as I did.

I would like to thank NetGalley for an advanced reader’s copy. The lack of sleep from reading it in one sitting and the opinions above are all mine.

Happy reading!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!

This is a very wholesome, romantic, sweet story about a photographer and former rock star (and current star once again) who had a chance at meeting years ago but never did. They eventually find their way back to each other to start their story. The author does a great job of writing in background characters who all play important parts but doesn’t over do it - there’s just enough information on those characters but doesn’t take away from the story. I enjoyed the way the chapters were laid out with dates like which wedding or event was taking place.

This was a 3.75-4 stars for me!

I could not wait to read Laura Carter’s latest book and I was not disappointed.

Catch a falling star follows main characters Lyra and Guy as they navigate finding themselves again and finding each other.

I loved the characters they felt really relatable and their back stories were quite deep. I really felt for them both in their situations and could imagine myself in their shoes.

This is a page turning grumpy vs sunshine romance that everyone should read!

My Thoughts :
We meet Lyra Clarkson and Guy Walker.
Guy was once in a rock band called The Hand Me Downs, he had spotted in Lyra in the crowd one night at a gig, but without any warning Lyra dissapeared, she had to leave the show after a phone call.
Moving on several years later, Lyra is now a photographer after droping out of med school and Guy has taken up wedding singing and being a butler in the buff for extra money.
They both find themselves in a lift on their way to work, but do they remember each other and that one glance in the crowd all those years ago!?.
As we follow the couple and learn more about their past and what they have been doing all this time, we get to see the chemistry between them, but can they both get past trust issues.
Laura Carter has done a great job in bringing the characters together, or back together I should say.
A perfect story full of fun, friends, laughs and relationships.
Looking forward to more from Laura Carter in the near future.

Beautiful, heartbreaking, and life-affirming!

"She's my longest day of the year. My favourite day of the year. And she's pulling me in like gravity. A force I can't see, one that's hard to explain, but it's real, it exists, and I'm powerless to stop it."

I loved everything about Lyra and Guy's story - the first time they saw each, their meet-cute, and the way their relationship evolved. No matter how hard Guy kept telling himself to keep away, he was just so drawn to her - almost against his will. The frisson between them whenever they were together was electrifying. I adored Lyra's soft, sympathetic heart - it felt like she understood Guy, without really knowing much about him. They carried emotional, guilty burdens, and they both needed to learn to shed those burdens before they could really move forward.

"When you're ready to let me in, I'll be here for all of it. The good, the bad and the downright chavvy."

The characters in this book felt so real. There were so many moments in this story that made them real - humorous, gritty, awkward, emotional, seductive, angsty, and downright romantic! Oh my heart! The sheer romance near the conclusion of this book gave me all the feels! At the start of this story, Guy was so emotionally broken that it was so beautiful to see how far he'd come by the end. A fabulous book and thoroughly recommend!

I recently read Catch a Falling Star and, unfortunately, I struggled to get into the writing. While the premise seemed promising, the execution didn’t quite draw me in as I had hoped.

One of the main issues I had was with the writing style. Whether it was the pacing, dialogue, or overall tone, something about it didn’t fully engage me. I found it difficult to connect with the characters or become invested in their journey. While some readers might appreciate the book’s themes or storyline, it just didn’t work for me.

That said, I can see how Catch a Falling Star might appeal to others who enjoy a particular style of storytelling or a specific genre. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

(4.25⭐️) Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Laura Carter for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC early!

This story is about Lyra, a wedding photographer, and Guy, an ex-rockstar now wedding singer who are forced to be near each other due to their jobs. And when I tell you guys this book was adorable, It was ADORABLE! I loved the grumpy/sunshine vibes, and the forced proximity gave them great tension! I also love how the almost-interaction at the beginning of the book connects itself throughout the story and all the way to the end. I've never read a book with a wedding photographer, and I loved the fact that Lyra was always capturing the best parts of other people's lives. And hot, smoldering Guy is such a unique character and I loved his growth throughout the book. Also the fact that he drove a pink car with eyelashes was hilarious! The ending was beautiful, a very satisfying ending to the book. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good romance!

I really enjoyed reading this book! Lyra and Guy were cute together, and I loved hearing their backstories and how it brought them together. Some of the times Guy treated Lyra so rudely and I did not love that. I understand a bit but not that much. I also didn’t love Lyra forgiving her family even though they treated her so badly with no apology. I did like how Guy reconnected with his friends and family and Lyra with her dreams and aspirations. The story with Guy, his brother, and their band was really bittersweet in a good way. Overall, this was a cute celebrity romance but not my favorite.

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

**Thank you to NetGalley for an arc of this book**
-Light Spoilers-

Catch a Falling Star by Laura Carter is an sweet second-chance romance that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you rooting for the main characters. The story follows Lyra, a wedding photographer, and Guy, a former rock star, as they navigate their messy pasts, comedic mishaps, and a growing connection that neither of them expected.

The novel opens with a pivotal moment seven years ago in Madrid, where Lyra, a lifelong fan of the rock band The Hand Me Downs, attends a concert. It’s here that she locks eyes with Guy, The bands song writer and guitarist. This fleeting, magical moment sets the stage for a potential meeting, only for Lyra to receive a phone call that alters the course of her life forever. At the same time, Guy has his own life-changing experience. Their paths don’t cross, and both carry the weight of their personal struggles and trauma as they go their separate ways—until, years later, fate brings them back together.

Guy, now at rock bottom, is trying to piece his life back together after the collapse of his career. Meanwhile, Lyra is working hard to carve out her own path in the world. Despite her family's expectations that she follow in their footsteps and become a doctor, Lyra is determined to pursue her true passion as a documentary photographer. Her journey is a balancing act of personal growth and professional aspiration, but when she crosses paths with Guy, things take a turn in the most unexpected ways.

Their reunion is marked by an endless string of hilarious, sometimes awkward, wedding season mishaps. Lyra and Guy’s connection grows amid the chaos. There’s a lovely slow burn to their relationship—one built on humor, vulnerability, and a shared understanding of the pain that both carry from their pasts. As they help each other work through their trauma and learn to embrace the possibilities of the future, their chemistry blossoms, and their love story becomes a beautiful exploration of healing and self-acceptance.

Carter does an excellent job of balancing lighthearted humor with deeper, more poignant themes. Lyra and Guy's relationship develops gradually, with moments of intense emotional depth mixed with laugh-out-loud comedic moments that will have readers grinning. The chemistry between the characters is felt by the reader, even when the romance is kept closed-door.

I really enjoyed the slow burn aspect of this book as well as the second-chance romance trope. Both characters must reckon with their pasts before they can fully embrace their future together. They learn what it means to love and be loved, understanding that happiness isn’t a destination but a journey—one they’ll embark on together.

Overall, Catch a Falling Star is a heartwarming and charming tale about love, forgiveness, and finding your way in life despite the obstacles that stand in your path. With its mix of humor, romance, and emotional depth, Laura Carter has crafted a story that will resonate with anyone who believes in second chances and the power of healing.

Catch a Falling Star by Laura Carter is an absolute gem of a romance that left me smiling, swooning, and completely enchanted. This book is a beautiful mix of quirky humor, heartfelt moments, and unexpected love, with characters that I couldn’t help but root for from start to finish.

Lyra Clarkson is a wedding photographer who loves capturing the perfect moments of other people’s love stories, even if her own life feels a little unfulfilled. Her family’s disapproval of her career path only adds to her sense of being lost. Enter Guy Walker—former rock star turned wedding singer—who, in desperate need of cash, finds himself taking on gigs that are far from glamorous.

Their paths cross in the most unexpected way, and from there, things take a delightful turn. What starts with a chance encounter and an unforgettable kiss quickly grows into something deeper. Lyra and Guy, both wounded and struggling to find their place in life, slowly begin to heal each other, though neither realizes it at first. Their journey together is a beautiful testament to how love can sneak up on you when you least expect it.

One of the most fascinating aspects of their story is the realization that Lyra and Guy almost met seven years earlier. It’s a detail that really made me stop and think about fate, timing, and how the right moment can make all the difference. Sometimes, things don’t work out because it’s not yet the right time, and this small twist in their story made me reflect on how important it is to be in the right place, at the right time. The way their lives finally align after all this time feels like destiny, and it added such an extra layer of depth to their connection.

What I loved most about this book is how Lyra and Guy’s relationship develops organically. Neither of them is looking for love, but as they spend time together throughout the wedding season, they begin to discover not just each other, but themselves as well. Their connection is so wonderfully real—sometimes awkward, sometimes funny, but always genuine. It was impossible not to get swept up in their slow-burning romance.

And every time Guy was referred to as the "wedding singer," I couldn't help but think of Robbie and Julia from The Wedding Singer movie! It added such a fun, nostalgic layer to the story, and I found myself grinning every time it came up. The humor in this book is spot on, balancing the emotional depth perfectly.

Laura Carter’s writing is warm and inviting, and she brings Lyra and Guy’s world to life in such a vibrant way. I couldn’t help but get lost in the wedding season backdrop, with all the gorgeous moments, laughter, and even a few tears along the way.

Guy Walker was once in a rock band called the Hand Me Downs and one night when performing he spots Lyra Clarkson in the crowd and asks for her to come back stage. She accepts but just as they are about to meet she disappears after a phonecall. He has never forgotten her though.

Years later, Lyra is now a successful photographer and Guy is performing at Weddings. He is also working as butler in the buff much to his embarrassment to being in a wage.

Their meet cute happens when they get stuck in a lift together and their attraction is as strong as it was all that time ago at the concert. They end up covering the same events during the wedding season and as they get to know one another their relationship develops.

The story is told from a duel point of view which is my favourite in romance books. Flashing back to the past and present we get a good insight into the characters and all the things they have been through to lead them to this moment. I really enjoyed the character development from both characters.

They both had things they were dealing with but they genuinely made each other better. This was such a great second chance romance and I loved all the nods we got to some of the bands. It was pure nostalgia in parts but I also liked getting Guys lyrics etc. I can picture him so clearly in my mind. I wish he was real 🤣 He was written so well and especially some of his complex problems. He was every fan's fantasy. When you adore someone famous but they see you.

Lyra was a fab character. She was kind with no judgements and her outlook on life was inspiring. Always putting other before herself.

This was just such a special book. I loved it so much. It was a great. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Catch a Falling Star by Laura Carter

This novel is a dual POV starring Lyra and Guy. Lyra is a young woman who had ambitions to be a doctor from her parents, but seven years prior decides that she is going to give up their dream and become a photographer. That night she happens to be at her favorite band’s show, The Hand Me Downs. She is invited backstage to meet the band but she gets bad news from her family that seems to derail all of her dreams.

From there, we learned that Lyra has become a wedding photographer, staying closer to home, and she runs into the former rockstar Guy Walker who is dealing with his own fall from grace.

When I was about 30% into the book I thought at the most this would be a four star read. The premise was fun and seemed like it would be a cute love story. Lyra is written as this “good girl” who almost looks on the sunny side and is happy dealing with how her life is but the reality is that she is unhappy not fulfilling her dream or the ones her family had for her. Which is intrigued but as the book went on she became more unlikable and a bit immature. It is like hearing an adult say fiddle sticks when something truly awful happens. Guy is no different, he starts as a tortured rockstar who is dealing with his own family trauma but has to work as a naked butler and a wedding singer but will never sing his own songs. He processed from a character that could have true depth to one that is a forgettable washed up rockstar.

At 70% I knew this one was a 3 star read. It felt drawn out and I almost didn’t care how it would end. I pushed through to get the ending hoping for a big redemption of the book like the one Lyra and Guy were also seeking for much of the novel. No surprise they both fight their personal demons and the things that are holding them back from having the life they wanted.

I feel like I wanted more from this book but that isn’t to say this wasn’t a good read. The problem is that I have read amazing variations of a similar plot recently.

Laura Carter’s Catch a Falling Star is a delightful, emotionally rich second-chance romance that hooked me from the very first page. This was my introduction to Carter’s work, and I’m already eager to explore more of her stories. With its blend of music, humor, and heartfelt moments, this book is perfect for anyone who loves a good love story with depth and charm.

The novel centers on Lyra Clarkson, a talented wedding photographer who has carved out a career capturing other people’s happiest moments, even as she struggles to find her own happiness. Her family’s disapproval of her career choice adds a layer of tension, making her journey all the more compelling. On the other side of the story is Guy Walker, a former rock star who’s hit a rough patch and is now taking on less-than-glamorous gigs to make ends meet. When their paths collide in the most unexpected way—thanks to a hilariously awkward elevator encounter—their lives take a turn neither of them could have predicted.

One of the standout aspects of this book is its balance of humor and heart. The witty banter and laugh-out-loud moments are perfectly offset by the more introspective scenes. The supporting characters, from friends to family members, add richness to the story, creating a world that feels real.

The musical elements are another highlight. As someone who loves music, it’s impossible not to feel the rhythm of the story as it unfolds.

Catch a Falling Star is more than just a romance—it’s a story about resilience, self-discovery, and the messy, beautiful journey of finding love when you least expect it. L

Laura Carter’s writing is engaging, making this an easy book to devour in one sitting.

Recommendation: A must-read for fans of second-chance romances, music-themed stories, and characters who feel like they could step right off the page.

Thank you NetGalley & Boldwood Books for the ARC.

Its a bit like cheating but i knew i was going to love this book from the moment that i read the blurb, that added with the fact that i already know that i love Laura Carters writing style meant this book was a winner for me.
I wasn't wrong, I've loved every single page of this book. I instantly loved Lyra, she was like all my university friends rolled into one and she was so easy to connect with that i was invested in her from the first page.
I adored getting to know Guy through his chapters, he did frustrate the heck out of me though, his deciding that he wasn't good enough for Lyra was annoying. Don't get me wrong i did fall in love with him very quickly and i spent at least 75% of the book wanting to give him a hug and the other 25% yelling at him (out loud much to the confusion of my family) and i was rooting for them from that first moment they became reacquainted. I really disliked Lyra's family to start off with, the way they kept putting her down, and the fact that she just took it!, made me so angry at times. But i did enjoy seeing how their relationship changed throughout the book and i loved how their support came though at the end. I think the contrast in family dynamics between our two MC's was really well done and i liked seeing their different upbringings portrayed so brilliantly.
I've always loved Laura Carters writing style she makes characters that are so relatable that its easy to get drawn into their lives and care for what is going on and their happiness. What i really loved about this book was that it wasn't just about the romance element, both MC's needed to work on what made them happy without each other as well. I loved that they both had a fulfilling relationship and career by the end of the book.
As usual Laura Carter has hit it out of the park with this book, and i cannot wait for her next book!

Catch a Falling Star is a beautiful second chance romance. The main characters are Lyra, a wedding photographer, and Guy, a former guitarist-turned-wedding singer. Lyra has forged her own career path without support from her family. Guy is in need of additional cash flow and takes any job his manager tosses his way. They come together, again (yes, that's right - again) at her former friend's bridal shower. She as the photographer, he as the bartending eye candy. Their current occupations keeps putting them together at the same weddings, and the sparks fly every time they meet.

I loved this romantic story that brings to people back together after tragedy kept them apart. There is so much chemistry between Lyra and Guy. I loved seeing them evolve and heal throughout the book. Neither were necessarily looking for love, but you know what they say - love finds you when you least expect it. The slow-burn aspect of their romance occurs naturally without force, and I appreciate that. The author did a great job bringing Lyra and Guy back together.

This book is cute, fun, and romantic, while dealing with serious topics. The author created a wonderful world, 3D characters with depth and emotion, and realistic romantic and family scenarios. I always enjoy multiple points-of-view and this is no exception. I love reading this as Lyra and as Guy. I immersed myself into this beautiful romance and loved going on the journey of self-discovery and absolution of guilt, while at the same watching the development of a magical romance.
