Cloverleah Pack #3

When No Doesn't Cut It

Rate this book
Scott Peterson, beta wolf in the Cloverleah Pack, has a good life. He loves his cars, riding his Harley, and going out with pack members and friends. But when an attack on his pack by a bear shifter, brings his mate into his world, from Texas of all places, Scott realizes he could lose everything he ever held dear.

Damien, Alpha wolf of the San Antonio Pack, didn’t want to go to Cloverleah and definitely didn’t want to be chasing a rogue bear shifter that was threatening the Alpha of the Cloverleah Pack. But he was in for a pleasant surprise when he finds his mate. Now, if he could just find the time to enjoy him.

Between murderous bears, deceptive wolves, two packs and a BDSM club, the road to HEA is anything but smooth for Scott and Damien. And then there’s a fire, and an Alpha Challenge, and let’s not forget Diablo and Griff’s wedding. About the only thing Scott and Damien haven’t got is time to be together, and it is that lack of time that could pull them apart.

Warning. This book is about gay wolf shifters. It contains m/m anal and oral sex, rimming and a spanking scene. There is also some violence, fighting wolves and a couple of deaths of minor characters. Child Sexual Abuse is also referred to. Please do not buy this book if these aspects offend you in any way.

Damian was disgusting. Prejudice against women and hetero relationships. Suppressed women's rights. Condoned domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse and rape through negligence. Created and manipulated a BDSM pack to feed his sexual addiction. No one was safe in his damn pack. For 100 years????

This author's attempt to create a situation to show growth and self-redemption of a character just totally backfired. Damian was too sleazy, dishonorable, repugnant, untrustworthy - his sins were too great - to even forgive much less feel any kind of compassion for any kind of redemption. I'm sorry, monetary reparations aren't good enough for the sexual abuse and kidnapping of children. Suddenly changing the pack laws giving women equal rights doesn't correct 100 years of abuse. Suddenly getting mated was a copout to stop his sexual manipulation of his pack. Damian was never held accountable, even by a shifter council or governing body. If he lived in the human world, he definitely would have been prosecuted and sent to prison. This author knew she was giving Damian a break when she wrote the story to show Damian's relief that the child kidnappings hadn't crossed state lines and did not break human federal laws. I felt sorry for his whole pack because there was no one to avenge them.

t need to like, respect and admire the MCs in my stories. And Damian definitely did not have the capacity to love Scott. So I don't buy the romance in this book.

This author needs some common sense when she creates her characters and story lines. Geez.

Reread 2020

I enjoy this series, but the books get better as the series progresses along as you can feel Ms Oliver get into her groove and really understand where the story arc is going.
I love Scott and Damien together, Scott’s easy going chatty funny personality is a good match for Damiens more serious one. Their story is one that remains a favourite of this series.

Each time I read these books I get different things from them, depending on my mood. I felt for Scott and his struggle at finding a place in a new pack and getting Damien to understand what he needed. But in this read I also felt for Damien. Everyone kind of forgot that the guy is 160 years old and has certain ways about him. He is never going to change overnight but I seems like everyone expects him to.

The cloverleah pack are invited in to help with a situation and Kane and Shawn take it upon themselves to butt into the mating. The intentions were good but they need to stay out of everyone else’s matings. This is the first in a line of matings that they have to have their say in, and Kane gets more obnoxious about it as each book progresses, at least Shawn usually ends up on the side of the mating pair. But in this one Damien was still reeling from what had been going on in his pack and they humiliated him and stressed him about his own mating. He very obviously didn’t know what he was doing and Scott was also giving him time to work it out but they had to butt in. Give the guy a chance.
Still enjoyed it.

This book was another awesome addition to this series!
With this book we get Scott who is a beta wolf in Kane's pack and also the twin brother of Troy.
Then we get Damien who is Alpha of the San Antonio pack and runs a BDSM club also.
Well he runs back home from the Cloverleaf pack after he finds out Scott is his mate. But he then quickly finds out he can't be away from him because he must claim his mate.
There really was so much going on in this book between the steam between these two MC's and the action I loved the way everything worked so well together. Reading about these two men growing closer to one another was really awesome! Between Scott having to get used to being a Alpha's mate now and Damien dealing with all these protective feeling while not really sure how to be in a relationship.
Also we get to see more of the previous characters in this series which I also loved.
I love the way this author has written these shifters in this series and I honestly can not wait to read the rest of the books in this series! Between the protectiveness these men feel for their mates and the way they are so caring they feel for one another.

All together I loved this book!
I would recommend this book!

I started to write a nuanced review detailing all the reasons Damien was one of the most vile characters I've read in a while but it was almost as long as the book midway through and stole energy I later decided to use.....in other endeavors.

Lisa, I like your writing (actually the length of your stories) and what I thought was an interesting take on shifters, dominance, versatility, and masculinity....but you lost me. PLEASE remove the Britt speak, please get an American beta reader, research D/s relationships, and maybe restore my hope that this genre of MM hasn't beaten to death all possible plot bunnies. I really love Lisa's Cloverleah Pack series and I hope that it continues on for at least a few more books because I'll hate to say goodbye to them!

As soon as I finished The Runaway Cat I wanted Damien's and Scott's story! I loved it! The first two books were great but I really, really wanted to know more about Damien. As soon as he first was mentioned by Shawn I just knew he was going to be special and I was right.

Damien is over 160 years old, he's been waiting for his mate for a long time. He was in love once (or thought he was) and had his heart shattered and vowed he would never love again. Scott decided to stop sleeping around in preparation of finding his mate, he didn't want to be a slut. They find each other, some bad things happen, Damien has a 'pity-party' moment, Scott thinks he was rejected and things kinda go down hill. After a while (not too long really) they fix their issues and fight for each other.

I loved the Alpha Challenge scene and really would love to see a book staring Matthew, because that guy? Yeah he's awesome. The only thing.. why didn't Scott say anything about the fact that Damien was gonna give up everything just to save him? I would have thought that would have bared mentioning.. course I guess Damien's words after Scott woke up may have overwhelmed Scott to the point he just didn't think about it.. well and the injury too. lol (wow :D)

A truly wonderful story and I cannot wait for Troy's story next.
Again my only pet peeve.. bought for brought. But it didn't detract from the story at all.

2.75 ⭐ (Re-read 2024)

I guess I'm still reading this series 🤦‍♀️😂 I don't know why I can't put it down.

The miscommunication/complete lack of communication between two people who can literally read eachother minds in this books is freaking ridiculous!

Also I don't know how it keeps saying that each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone?! Like the best thing about these books is the bonkers background common plot!

I find this series quite hard to review , because on one hand there are holes in the stories .
On the other hand they are the Ultimate Guilty Pleasure !! So , should I rate them higher ?

I'm going to go with the guilty pleasure , they are like scoffing big handfuls of candy , and my self control is questionable to say the least .

Rampaging on to the next in the series .

Overall I liked this one more than the first two. The problems and power dynamic felt more realistic. But I *hated* the spanking scene, and I normally love spanking in a romance. This felt gross. Damien never really grew on me. And sexual assault on kids that’s easily cleared up as a plot point always pisses me off.

The third book in the series for me is harder to read as we are leaving Cloverleah as one of the pack members finds his mate who is Alpha of a different pack. Lisa Oliver has enchanted us in the first two books with the camaraderie and familial devotion of the Cloverleah pack and it takes a bit to get used to the idea that you are leaving that behind.

The new characters are interesting and keeps my attention as you truly see what happens to the characters when a true mating isn't going how you would expect it too. It was a nice change to see some of the darker side of this world instead of an immediate happy ending. I most of the way through this book as I write this review and it has only taken me about a day and a half to get through what I am reading so far. Another quick and wonderful read by Lisa Oliver.

With that being said...
Lisa Oliver has once again caused my brain to scream while I read why she is being screwed over by her Editor/Publisher in the fact that the grammatical errors are becoming more frequent when words are missing from sentences and still the word 'brought' does not exist because it has abandoned its 'r' to become 'bought'.

I am skipping/skimming entire pages of sex scenes as they do not push the story-line along at all and seem to just be thrown in because it is fun to write about two hot men ravaging each other. I can understand a couple of scenes that cause the story-line to happen (like when one of them is claimed), but I have always found it sexier and more fulfilling in a story if they lead you to believe it was a fiery hot passionate sex filled night without details while the story of the book is moved along. I don't think the readers need every sex scene written every time a character becomes horny.

Scott was so not my cup of of tea.

This was a book where everything one of the main characters did was annoying to me. Scott imagined Damien rejected him before they even spoke to each other. Then, Damien had to put down a long-time friend and enforcer so he wouldn't have to suffer an agonizingly painful death, tried to drink away the guilt afterwards, and instead of considering reasons for his silence (such as grief, guilt, sorrow, added to stress over an unexpected mate), Scott makes it all about himself. He does this throughout the book, where he judges Damien's actions and lack of performance according to Scott's inner mate-behaviors-and-how-to-treat-Scott rulebook, all without the benefit of having an adult conversation with his mate. He instead complains to the Beta, others he talks to, and his twin, but gets Damien to jump through hoops.

Yes, I get that this is fiction - I just hate books where I can't stand one of the mc's. And, I didn't like Scott from the get-go. I couldn't even let their hard life before meeting Kane ease the irritation I felt with each progressive page of this book. I'm sincerely sorry, because I really love Lisa Oliver's stories. I sure didn't appreciate this one, only because of Scott. Ugh! Two stars.

Good paranormal m/m romance

A great addition to the previous two books about gay wolf shifters. Damien, Alpha of the San Antonio pack is in Cloverleah with his enforcers to kill a bear shifter who escaped his custody and wants revenge against Shawn and the rest of the pack for his capture in the previous book. Sean, Cloverleah beta and Damien find they are mates but the battle for the bear comes first with two enforcers who tried to rape Sean earlier. Sean kills the would be rapist enforcers and with Damien kills the bear. Misunderstanding abounds with Sean and Damien goes back to Texas without a claim or a mate. The mating pull is so strong that Sean is dying before a very ill Damien comes back and they finally mate and go to Texas. Poor communication continues to plague their relationship (even though great sex) until one crisis after another including uncovering child sexual abuse and the gratefully accepted help of Cloverleah pack finally brings happiness to our couple and the whole Texas pack. A truly great book and the reader will definitely want to continue the series just like me.

Scott really brings a lot to this story, yeah he was a little insecure but I liked how he got Damien working for his mating to work, honestly I thin I would have dnf this book if he wasn't in it.
Now the main issue... Damien, we are told how big and powerful and wonderful his pack is, but then shit hit the fan really quick and honestly I don't know how he managed being their alpha so long, he was just runing his BDMS club without really caring about all the females and child on his pack, the way he used young subs were horrible (even worst after we are told about the kidnapping and killing). For me he was like a headless chicken, or should I say cock? because it seemed he was just living his life driven by it. That being said... I liked the changes that his mating with Scott bring to the pack, all the "I don't bottom, fall in love" thinking was bullshit but I tolerated it because he let Scott bite him since the start of their relationship so I knew he was going to open himself.

In this third entry into the Cloverleah the author has shown improved skills compared to the first two novels. She is still using the wrong dialect of English for the characters' speech and there are still far too many grammar errors and misused words; however, the story has better structure and the problems the MCs face cannot be easily solved by the all-too-magical character who easily fixed everything in the previous novels.

This story covers an alpha wolf and a beta wolf who are fated mates, but they don't like each other when they meet and the whole fated-mates magic kicks in. So, much of the story covers how they learn to tolerate each other. Of course, there is an HEA, but both characters have to work for it.

Despite the many flaws in the technical merits of the novel, I thought the characters and story line were enjoyable and a good bit of gay romance fun. This is a good, but not great story.

I didn’t like this book nearly as much as I did the first two books. Damien’ over-the-top alphaness grated on my nerves and Scott acted like a pouty pre-teen half the time. I am not a fan of the chest-thumping jerks that act that way because they’re “alpha males”. It’s one of the reasons I rarely read m/f books. Damien was the epitome of the asshole alphas in those type of books. Truly, if there wasn’t such a big deal made out of the fact that Scott was tall and muscular and very much not a twink I’d say the author was just using a male in place of a classic female character. Even Scott’s humor we saw in the last books was replaced with angst that could have been easily fixed if either of them just talked to each other or dropped their mental shields. Ugh. Gonna continue reading the series and hope this book is an aberration.

I really wanted to like this one more than I did. The MCs didn't communicate well or at all through most of the book. It was a crazy long book for the issues they had, but there were a lot of different items that came up for them to deal with. I also had problems with the portrayal of BDSM. The book seemed to give the life style a negative feel.

Ok, now I know it looks like I hated the book. I didn't. The characters do grow on you and the side characters are awesome. I loved the action that occurred in the storyline. The author also did really well building up the relationship when I thought there would be more of an insta-love feel to the story. I enjoyed a different take on the whole fated mates relationships.

I enjoyed this book the third in the series from the Cloverleah Pack. But it’s not an easy road to love for Scott and his Alpha mate Damien the oldest and strongest of the Alphas. they meet when Damien comes to help when Cloverleah is under attack from a shifter bear which wants to gets his hands on Kane Alpha of Scott’s pack. Damien has other ideas about mates though and Scott nearly dies due to Damien’s opinions and actions.
There is always plenty going on in these books by Lisa Oliver and so far I’ve not been disappointed. So I would definitely suggest you give these books a go.

Best of first three books

This is my favorite of the first three books. Scott is so complex, smart, stubborn and loving. His relationship with his mate, even more complex. I enjoyed their story. There is a storyline that could be disturbing, but we are only told of the abuse and that made the story line acceptable to me as the goal was to repair not titalate.. Scott and Damien were hot.

Alliances are getting stronger

Damien and Scott is another great couple although Damien were kind of oblivious and unintentionally hurtful since he hadn't had neither relationships or a loving pack. I did feel for Scott but in many ways he's a lot stronger when it comes to emotions than Damien.
I really liked the bond building over the Cloverleah pack and Damiens pack and I want to know what happened to Scotts twin Troys mate.

Okay for a big bad alpha who is also a bad ass Dom, Damien was a clueless idiot. You just leave your pack to basically on their own. You have no clue that women & children are being abused? All you really care about is your club & your own pleasure, 12 subs. Really? But I was happy to see that he can learn. I loved how kick ass Scott is. Off to the next one.

FYI this book does have graphic and disturbing scenes

After a particular screw up I was totally ready give this novel and sequel one star. But after getting past the mess that was a few chapters the ending chapters are what saved it. I do have to say the next sequel or books I ordered better not be like this. I'm not too keen on cruddy novels.
