A bit daunting, if only because it is so large - but then, it is an encyclopedia, so daunting is more or less the point. Bought for me by the ex love of my life - who would be somewhat annoyed that I'm doing more cooking out of it now that she's no longer around to reap the benefits. Ain't that the way?
But I must say - as she herself would say - the Italians invented cooking, the French only take the credit. But I must add, Irish men do tend to make better cooks than Italian women. Who'd ever have thought?
Lots of colour photos and clear explanations. If there were but world enough and time.
I've cooked about a dozen recipes from this book since I bought it about 6 months ago. It's a fun book to read, I can spend an hour sitting on the couch just flipping through it. Most of the dishes are quite easy and practical. Authentic Italian. The information section at the front about breads, cheeses, vinegars, pastas etc is just amazing!
I should only add cookbooks to my read shelf if I've cooked from them. I have looked at every single page of this book in order several times. I love it! I have not tried a recipe, but want to reeeeally bad--if that counts. Pictures are great. I'd love to cook my way through this book for sure.
