When I walked onto my first movie set as a stylist fresh out of fashion school, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be working under the hottest up-and-coming Hollywood actor. Travis is like looking into the sun with his charming smile and stunning eyes that set my skin alight. His beauty is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. But behind those blinding features is a dark secret he keeps hidden from the world. What is a kind and caring man like him hiding from? I want to fight his demons alongside him, refusing to allow him to do it on his own, but only if he will let me.
Maya Addams
I knew I was screwed the moment I bumped into her on her first day on set. As soon as those golden eyes locked with mine, I was done for. Maya is the epitome of what it means to be a shining star because when she looks in my direction and smiles, I may as well be a puddle at her feet. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever met, but I don’t deserve her. She doesn’t deserve to be with a broken man or love someone who is consumed by his demons, but I’m too selfish to let her go. I want to let her in and show her my world, but if I do, would she still be able to look at me the same way?
Chloe lives by the beach in New South Wales, Australia, with her two fluffy cats, partner, and twin sister. Ever since she was young, she has always loved to read and create stories in her mind whenever an idea presented itself and got into the romance genre in high school by reading "After" by Anna Todd on Wattpad. In recent years, her love for storytelling grew and she decided it was finally time to put pen to paper and share her ideas. She is always coming up with new ideas, so stay tuned for future projects.
🎬Workplace Romance 💛Heart of Gold MMC 💔Past Childhood Tr@ma ❤️🔥A Tragically Beautiful Love 🛼 Set in the '80s
✨️Review: Firstly, Book 1, Her Dark Angel, is probably my fave rockstar romance at this point so i knew i had to read this! Going into this is hard since we know it won't be a HEA. I dont cry easily...but I shed tears at the end of this...my heart ached. But Travis's story deserved to be told because he is so pure and loving and meant so much to Kinsley in book 1. He is absolutely the kindest soul, dealt such a devastating hand in life. He deserved to be cherished and in this story we get to see moments of absolute pure joy and happiness in an otherwise challenging life he's led post tr@uma.
It's heartbreaking how the events of his childhood (a shared tr@ma with Kinsley) left such emotional scars, and mental health rep is very real here. But despite the darkness, a large portion of this story is also highlighting this small precious pocket of time that he truly felt he belonged, that he could be free of the demons clawing in his mind. And that was because of the spark of light that is Maya.
She was so endearing, empathetic and the perfect balm for Travis. She has a sense of fun about her, a very "girl next" door feel. Their relationship evolved with such effortless sweetness. I'm just so happy to have gotten to know Travis more and to see how he found such true love and friendship in Maya.
The brightest smiles hide the deepest of pain...couldn't be more true for sweet Travis. His story was so important to be told and shines a light on the silent anguish of victims such as he. I love him even more after hearing more of his story.
Note: Be mindful of TW's. This is the 1.5 shorter novel in the Backstage Sinner series. I would recommend reading Her Dark Angel first since Travis is a small character mentioned in that book and best friend of the main character and this has crucial interconnectedness.
I had the pleasure of receiving this book as an ARC, and WOW, this book was fantastic. Shadowed By Demons is in the world of Backstage Sinners and completely matches the incredible storytelling of the first book.
In this book, we meet Travis, who is the best friend of Kinsley in the first book, and they grow up together and go through some pretty traumatic experiences with each other. Travis is such a beautiful and broken man and deserves the world and needs protection at all costs. His story is so heartbreaking, and I just wanted to wrap him in my arms.
Maya, oh my darling girl, my heart is so broken for her, but she is such an incredible woman, and the way she is so loving and gentle with Travis is so inspiring and beautiful. I think she is a wonderfully young woman, and I hope she gets everything she deserves.
I absolutely loved this book and its emotion... even though I already knew the ending, I was still on the edge of my seat and really rooting for their love! I loved Maya and Travis so much.
As always, I do highly recommend reading any trigger warnings as their are some heavy topics throughout the book and your mental health matters.
Travis's story is truly the heartbreak we didn't know we needed.
Shadowed by Demons explores the darker side of being a child star in Hollywood in an era where predators were as plentiful as the dreams of stardom.
The story links in with book one, "Her Dark Angel" which tells his best friends side of the story along with her "fake" relationship with a bad boy Rock star.
While there are definitely sweet, adorable moments in Travis's story, It's also got tears, and it's got moments that will tear at your very soul - but in light of the Me Too movement, to have a fictional piece that explores the depravity of the era, I think IS actually important to be out there.
Be sure to review the TW's before taking on this story. The anguish experienced by Travis in his years following his trauma if bound to be challenging for some readers.
📖✨ Book Review: Shadowed by Demons A Novella in the Backstage Sinners Series by Chloe Higgins
I flew through this heartbreaking yet beautifully written novella. Shadowed by Demons bridges the gap between the first book in the series, Her Dark Angel, and the highly anticipated second book still to come. It dives deep into the past of Travis and Kinsley, alternating between present-day events and flashback chapters to when Travis was just 12 years old.
These glimpses into his childhood reveal the devastating abuse he endured, making the story even more emotional and impactful. Knowing how Travis’ story concludes in Her Dark Angel makes this novella even more gut-wrenching. Chloe Higgins masterfully balances raw, painful truths with deeply emotional storytelling.
Trigger warnings: sexual abuse, suicide.
For fans of Her Dark Angel, this novella is a must-read to fully understand the depth behind Travis and Kinsley’s struggles. A heartbreaking yet essential addition to an incredible series.
So many emotions ran through me as I read this book! When reading book one, you know how this book will end. And even though it’s not a HEA, I still loved the book and I’m really glad to have heard Travis’ story. But my oh my was it sad. 💔
I loved Travis. He was just so sweet and thoughtful. And I loved Maya too. I can’t wait for the next book! 🥰

😭😭😭😭😭 I knew this book would absolutely destroy me and it did. The world needed to hear Travis's story. A tortured souls who hides behind a smile. We all knew from Her Dark Angel how his story ends but you can't help but keep rooting for him and hoping for him to fight. As an abuse survivor these books touched me deeply. Thank you Chloe for giving a voice to those shadowed by demons.
