In The Doghouse is an introduction to the Love Down Under series. This short story was previously published as Back To You in the Steamy anthology. It is a stand alone romance with medium heat.
Cynthia Terelst is an emerging Australian author based in regional Queensland, where the sun shines 283 days a year. She is a Document Controls Manager by day and a writer by night. Cynthia’s mother introduced her to a lifelong love of reading, for which she will be forever grateful. With love for the written word instilled in her, she wrote her first picture book at the age of 8, about her lost cat, Fluffy.
Cynthia writes contemporary romance and has four books published in her Love Down Under series. She refers to her writing style as ‘heat with heart'. In her novels, she likes to share a little bit of history, some Australian scenery and a whole lotta love. Her novels do not shy away from difficult topics, as she feels that they should not be ignored.
Two exes together on a 10-day car ride. What could go wrong??
When Chloe agrees to cart her best friend's dog and her brother across country to her friend's wedding, she thinks she's taking Corey, the younger brother. Instead, she arrives to discover Rex (the dog) sitting next to Alex, the older brother and Chloe's ex-love, ex-man she thought she'd spend the rest f her life with, ex-last man on Earth she wanted to see. Now she faced a ten-day trip stuck in a car, and nights in a tent. Alex promised her the moon and stars and then skipped out to join the military without even saying goodbye. How would they manage the trip without a) fighting like enemies or b) falling back into each other's arms?
This short story is well-written and structured with a nice romance arc and strong beginning, middle, and ending. I really enjoyed it. Ms. Terelst writes great characters and fine, realistic stories that entertain and keep the reader fully engaged. I love that she always includes animals and the feel of Australia. The only thing wanting in this story is what Alex decided about the Army… Recommended for a very fast read.
Five years ago Alex crushed Chloe’s heart and dreams. Now he wants her back in his life and has a five-day road trip to convince her that she should open up her heart to love again.
This story is short, sweet, and intense. I just wish it was longer because it left me wanting more.
QOTD: What's your favorite road trip snack? My A: Oatmeal Cream Pies! My husband and I try to go on a hiking road trip at least two Sundays a month and there's nothing better than a sugar packed OCP after a grueling hike! 😜 . A second chance romance where the MCs are exes who are forced together on a 10 day road trip across Australia to a wedding... SIGN. ME. UP. . At just 42 pages this was an absolute breeze and the perfect book to fit in on a busy day. This is book 0.5 in Cynthia Terelst's Love Down Under series which I've had on my TBR list for awhile now! . Written in alternating, first-person POVs, this is fun from the get-go with a snarky female lead and a scheming male lead. Throw in a lovable canine character and I’m hooked.
Forced proximity. Road trip!! Second-chance romance. Exes - to - enemies? Sorta? To … it evolves quite a bit. Hilarious banter. Random facts as the couple tour and explore. Best friend’s brother / sister’s bestie.
Overall: A super cute, quick read with a bit of heat and lots of fun and sweet moments, and some adventure. I’d absolutely read more from these characters or any of their friends.
I liked the plot idea of a roadtrip with an ex but this is a bit too short and quick to get properly into the feels. There's been hardly any time to pine and argue before they're already together.
Second book I've read by Cynthia. Her stories are soothing and relaxing. She's my go to when life's stresses trouble me. Looking forward to her next book. By the way, I love Rex
Forced proximity a wedding and a second chance to fix what was broken. He made a mistake 5 years ago and now he’s determined to fix it and win her back in this fast paced romance
