Ride the Sky

Rate this book
A sizzling cowboy, heroine-in-danger romance by Amazon top 50 bestselling author, Ava Hunter.

Wyatt Montgomery hasn’t always been a thorn in my side. There was once a time when we shared a bed. Secrets.
But after a brutal attack, I leave everything behind, including Wyatt. I run from my small hometown in search of a fresh start. Only nothing turns out like I expected.

When I’m hurt in the ring, my world comes crashing down around me. And when all our secrets are exposed, it’s Wyatt who swoops in to save me.

Now he’s living in my house, sleeping in my bed, and telling me I’m the strongest cowgirl he’s ever known. I should hate it, and I do. The cocky, charming and completely infuriating cowboy with the heart of gold and piercing blue eyes gets under my skin every chance he gets.

Still, living under one roof means nothing between us feels fake. One kiss and there’s no denying our scorching heat or the sync of our hearts. Before long, my walls crumble. Because when Wyatt touches me, he shows me that I can do anything. Like get my life back. A life that includes him.

But someone is watching who doesn’t want our happiness. Someone with only one goal: tear my new life away from me, and this time, I might not make it out alive…

I truly LOVE this series!!! I swear I don't know a better fictional family of brothers. I love them!!

I loved Wyatt and Fallon's story! Fallon reminded me of myself at times with her "give no shits" attitude!!

ALSO - I will never forget Chapter 26.. OMG THE BEGGING! 🫠🫠

I will say I just cannot get over Burn the Wild, I think I love it so much nothing will compare - but I still enjoyed this!

DNF 26%

I give up, I just can’t take this anymore.

Spoiler‼️

Update 6:

He’s been celibate for a year and a half, and the last time he was with the FMC was like three years ago (I think) 🙄.

“Year and a half of being backed up,” he grunts.
My heart stops beating. “You haven’t been with anyone else?”
“No. Were you?”
“No.I wasn’t.”

======

Update 5:

25%… Okay, so it turns out the MCs have been secretly married this whole time!! (they got married a year ago for his insurance)…
I think I’m going to DNF this book soon. I really didn’t like the constant back and forth between past and present, it’s super confusing. We did find out they slept together for the first time seven years ago but I still have no idea when he broke her heart and slept with another woman. I haven’t reached that part yet! I’ve lost interest tbh.

======

Update 4:

She had a major crush on him when she was 16 but he broke her heart back then (because her dad warned him to stay away from his daughters). Over the years that crush turned into rivalry but also there is this undeniable passion between them! then they finally slept together for the first time… She thought maybe it could actually mean something. But nope, he broke her heart again.

“Wyatt and I trained together for six months. Evenings and weekends by his side. We bickered, argued, but it was still one of the best times in my life.
And then he said what he said.
Tears on my pillow. Dakota stroked my back and murmured soothing motherly things to me. I vowed he’d never know how hard I cried. I hated him. This stupid cowboy.
As we trained together over the years, I endured that smart mouth and irritating smirk to beat him at his game. Then we went on the rodeo circuit together. Close quarters meant loathing turned to lust. In the angriest kind of way, I fucked him. Partly because of attraction, partly because it seemed like the best way to get under his skin at the time.
He broke my fucking heart back then.
I’d break his. In as many ways as I could.
There was a minuscule moment in time, an idiotic foolish girl notion, that we could be more. But…not anymore. Not after Aiden. And especially not after that letter.
Now, I’m committed to the bit of hating Wyatt Montgomery.”

======

Update 3:

6%… Why is this man acting like the victim?? Hello you lost her because of your own crappy choices.

“I’ve seen what love can turn a cowboy into, and it’s not anything good.”

I like this author so much and I’ve always liked her loyal, obsessed MMCs, so saying I’m disappointed feels like an understatement.

======

Update 2:

The FMC’s been gone for 9 months now… and this line had me seriously question about his celibacy (what’s the point of staying celibate if he couldn’t even keep it in his pants in the first place? Lol)

“I’ve tried to forget. Tried to move on. Tried to bury myself in work and a thousand other things that haven’t done a damn thing to ease the sting of her leaving.
Fallon McGraw. One damn woman I don’t have time for anymore. Even if I know it’s another lie in a long list.”

======

Update 1:

4% … So apparently three years before this book starts (probably during book 1 or 2?) the MCs slept together. The MMC is supposed to be in love and obsessed with the FMC but then he went and slept with someone else because he’s a complete idiot. Honestly, that was such a letdown especially since his brothers were all loyal. And to get back at him the FMC slept with another guy too.

The H’s pov:

“Fallon and I—we had something real.
Even if she didn’t feel it.
Because all I did was fuck it up.
Fuck us up.
And before I could work up the nerve to tell her how I feel, she left.”

“I fucked around with Sheena Wolfington. I played games, acting like I didn’t care about Fallon. I took it for granted that eventually we’d get together. But Fallon’s as stubborn as a mule, and I’m a goddamn idiot. I waited too long, and it came back to bite me in the ass.
The next year, she met Aiden. She got hurt. And she pulled away from everyone.
Including me.”

The h’s pov:

“We met at a stock show; he told me his name was Danny. We dated. Fucked. I liked him, as a temporary fixation. Being with Danny was boring, bland. His kiss tasted like dirt from a garden, but I did it anyway. I saw the anger in Wyatt’s eyes, the desperation every time we were together. I wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine. Make him jealous. But then it was revealed that Danny was Dakota’s ex, Aiden. He used me to get close to her. To try to hurt her and take his baby.
My fault. All my fault.”

PS. Danny/Aiden is her sister’s ex but she didn’t know that.

The whole series I thought the FMC was annoying and didn’t deserve the MMC — turns out I was so wrong. He’s the one who was a disgusting and dumb.

This is one of those books that makes you want to write a poem afterward — that’s how many emotions, impressions, and feelings it stirs up. I honestly can’t imagine how to squeeze everything that’s boiling inside me after reading it into this review.

• cowboy romance
• found family
• small town
• slow burn
• enemies to lovers
• competitive female lead
• second chance
• touch her and die
• he cares for her
• raw emotions
• pain, guilt, and solace
• trauma and secrets
• fear of vulnerability

I had been eagerly awaiting the story of Wyatt and Fallon, because, in my opinion, the author did something special here — she flipped the usual roles of the main characters. Typically, it’s the man who’s deeply scarred and self-destructive, physically burning out the pain while chasing some grand goal. Especially in cowboy romances. But here, it’s Fallon who carries this role — a tomboy, broken and reckless, yet with an unshakable core. She’s a woman who inspires, who embodies the bravery of every girl dreaming of more. But at times, with her stubbornness and sharp tongue, she reminded me so much of Nesta Archeron — honestly, as if she needed so desperately to let her pain out that she ended up hurting the ones closest to her.

At the same time, Wyatt is fighting his own demons of guilt and longing. Oh, Wyatt — he’s a ray of sunshine in the middle of a storm. His battle is quiet, profound. But never, not for a single moment, did he doubt his feelings for this woman. Always, truly always, in any situation — he stood by Fallon. I hereby declare this man the sweetest and most caring cowboy on this planet. Every other paragraph made me tremble — from his words, his actions, his gaze, his emotions. God… and when that man falls to his knees to apologize — it’s such a powerful blend of tenderness and strength that everything inside you just starts to boil.

In the previous books, all that tension between Wyatt and Fallon built up like static electricity — all their bickering, all their shoving — and in the fourth book, it literally exploded in our faces. Emotions and true feelings erupted.

The fear of losing one’s independence, of showing weakness and truly trusting someone, led these two to nurture their feelings inside themselves for years. They hurt each other, argued, or simply ignored one another. And once again, it taught me that it’s better to take a risk than to regret wasted years.

Wyatt and Fallon are so alike in character, with shared interests and common goals. They’re like two sides of the same coin, and at times it felt like they were just a breath away from finishing each other’s sentences. I swooned at every one of their interactions.

These two deeply wounded people found each other in life’s raging storm — and finally allowed themselves to truly feel. And by doing so, they made each other happy.

And I have to say this… I need to say this — I dream of a family like the one the Montgomery brothers created. It’s a community, a bond of support and loyalty, genuine care and love. People who cherish one another and will always be there — they won’t leave you alone with your demons, they’ll offer a shoulder in your weakest moments, and they’ll rejoice with all their hearts in your happiest ones.

This book is more than just a story. It’s an experience you live through with your whole heart.

I also want to say a few words about the series itself — how incredibly well thought-out it is. All the events tie together harmoniously, as if the pages are sewn with delicate threads. I still can’t believe there are people out there who write such breathtaking stories. Ava, I am deeply grateful. These are books I will reread even when I’m 80, because they’re filled with kindness, sincerity, lifelong friendship — and most importantly, such wonderful characters. I’m writing this review and crying, but that’s just how it is — I feel like I’m drunk on love.

______

• slow burn

➸cowboy romance
➸romantic suspence
➸trainer/bull rider (her)
➸loathe to love

I'm a huge fan of this series, but unfortunately this book and this couple are not for me.

Fallon is too stubborn. I can't stand her, she got on my nerves most of the time. And I'm tired of her being a bitch with everyone. We got it you hurt but it doesn’t give you the right to treat everyone like shit.
Wyatt is too sweet, he has no goddamn willpower when it comes to Fallon. He can't say no even for her good.

So, Fallon is just a bitch, Wyatt is a doormat and their love story is idiots to lovers which is not my cup of tea.
I don't believe their relationship will work. She can't communicate, she doesn't know what the compromise is and, honestly, she'd be better off alone.

The suspence was meh. It was obvious who's the bad guy.

Something I disliked:

❗️❗️❗️POSSIBLE SPOILERS❗️❗️❗️
— Vegas? Seriously? That's not what I expected. I don't know why but every time Wyatt said "my wife" it gave me the ick.
— Medicine doesn't work in this book. Why does everyone treat Davis like he's dying? It's just ulcer, he should feel better in 1-2 months. So, when all these stalker stuff started Davis was supposed to be healed. And Fallon participates in barrel racing 3 month after a major leg surgery. Wtf, is she the Terminator?
❗️❗️❗️END OF SPOILERS❗️❗️❗️

BUT overall it's my favorite small town romance series with a captivating plot, good suspence (mostly), amazing mmc, beautiful landscapes and heartwarming found family. Highly recommend it!

My ranking:
1. Burn the Wild (3)
2. Tame the Heart (1)
3. Rope the Moon (2)
4. Ride the Sky (4)

DNF at 3%. This is a second chance romance because he ended up fucking someone else after he’d fked Fallon because he thought he can still fk around with other people, and that him and Fallon are a sure thing anyways, and he took it for granted. LMFAO yuk. This guy ain’t obsessed if he can fuck someone else and even look at another woman after he legit fucked his dream girl.

Ride The Sky by Ava Hunter
4,5/5⭐
3/5🌶️

After reading Burn The Wild, I knew I found something truly special! The author has an incredible way of evoking every single emotion throughout the book. The characters are deep, complex, and so relatable. If you’ve read the previous book, you already sense the sizzling tension and chemistry between Fallon and Wyatt, and this book dives even deeper into their journeys, revealing the scars, guilt, and trauma they've faced.

Fallon is a talented and tough bull rider! After what happened with her sister, she felt she had to leave the ranch and run away. My heart ached for her as I followed her story. I felt her guilt and pain. She tries to escape it all through bull riding and living recklessly, but at the same time, I admire her strength, resilience, and determination. Her love for her family is fierce, but she sometimes says hurtful things because she’s hurting. Her relationship with Wyatt is electric! The banter, the push and pull, and the undeniable passion between them are so captivating. She tries to downplay her feelings for him, but deep down, she knows he means more to her than she admits.

Wyatt is a broody cowboy who's fiercely loyal and protective of his loved ones. I loved how dependable and steadfast he was for Fallon throughout the book. Whenever she’s feeling down or her past catches up with her, he’s right there, offering strength and a shoulder to lean on. Fallon and Wyatt’s relationship might be messy—they bicker and fight a lot—but there's a deep understanding between them. They have secrets that only they share, and I loved watching them open up to each other, finding safety and healing in their bond. Their connection feels so special, and their chemistry is off the charts!

I enjoyed the development of both characters, and the return of previous characters added a wonderful family dynamic to the story. It was great to see how each of them finally found their happily ever after. If you love cowboy romances filled with powerful family ties, complex characters, suspense, and plenty of spice, definitely check out this series! You won’t be disappointed.

the more books i read, the harsher of a rater i become...

this book was never going to be highly rated for me, it could be a three on a good day but not today. ava hunter's books are kinda like a car crash for me. i know that i don't like them but i can't stop reading them. i'm hoping that since this series is over and i no longer have a connection to any character i can stop. these books are probably not even bad but i hate romantic suspense and i hate when couples have potential but its thrown away for cringe...

if you've enjoyed any book in this series before this one, you'll love this one. ava hunter has a recipe and she sticks to it. i was hoping that there wouldn't be a kidnapping at the end of this one because of fallon's trauma but i guess she did her big one. the romance was sweet, even if it was pretty much all determined before this book even took place. if you see me trying to read another one of these books just take my kindle away. i have a bad addiction and it isn't helping anyone involved.

fallon and wyatt were long awaited and their journey truly made me so emotional. every single relationship in this series had an incredible accumulation and formed a family i'd never forget about ever. the world ava created will be in my mind always. there was an amazing twist that fit these two so well. as for the suspense portion, i'm happy it wasn't quite as dark as the previous book because fallon went through so much. this was incredible and so was this series and I am so excited to see what she writes next. thank you to Ava Hunter and team for this ARC!

࿐ Wyatt and I—we don’t complement each other. Instead, we pair. Two halves. Synced heartbeats. Like those wild horses. I was always meant to be with him. Even if I fought it. Even if I lied to myself. Even if I ran.

ᝰ.ᐟ 4 stars

In my mind, I’m still wandering around Runaway Ranch. I’m basking in the morning sunlight, listening to the sounds of nature. Everything feels cosy and dreamlike, and I never want to leave.

I’m sad to reach the end of this series because I absolutely loved getting lost in these books and meeting these characters. They’ve become one of my favourite families 🫂 It’s so special to see how much they all love each other. They do everything out of love and a need to protect those they care about most.

fallon mcgraw

𐚁⊹₊ ⋆ A cross between a knife and a woman, that’s Fallon McGraw. Sharp, angular, violent.

Fallon is a force to be reckoned with. She’s fierce and brave, and won't tolerate anyone's bullshit. She’s reckless and stubborn, but you’ve got to admire her determination. She’s a wild thing with a spirit that can't be tamed. She was born to roam free and do whatever her heart desires. It was beautiful to witness her growth, and I’m glad she tore down the walls protecting her heart. Love doesn't make you weak; it makes you stronger, and Fallon ultimately realised this. She’s a tough girl, but her heart is soft. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

𐚁⊹₊ ⋆ She’s a cowgirl in every sense of the word. Barefoot and beautiful and tan as buckskin. Barbwire dipped in gold. An angel with a busted halo. And she’s ready to roll.

wyatt montgomery

𐚁⊹₊ ⋆ It makes tears spring to my eyes. It’s what always softens me, slices at me. The utter kindness of Wyatt Montgomery. That he’s a cowboy who’s true. Who helps. Who always has been there when I’ve needed him.

Wyatt's unwavering love for Fallon was a sight to behold! Despite her many attempts to keep him at a distance, he never stopped trying to break down her barriers. He always stood by her side, but he didn't shy away from telling her when she was being a reckless idiot. He believed in her, protected her and loved her. His only purpose was to make sure his girl was safe and happy. That's not to say that Wyatt didn't have his own issues and insecurities, which came back to haunt him, but he overcame them! It was wonderful to see him realise his own worth. He’s a true cowboy.

𐚁⊹₊ ⋆ Cowboys, I think in irritation. Everyone thinks they’re a fuckin’ cowboy. You’re not a cowboy the minute you climb onto a horse. A cowboy is someone who’s busted and bruised and gets back on. Who knows the risks, the danger, and does it anyway. Who dedicates their life to the horse, to the land. That’s a cowboy.

𓍯𓂃♡ Wyatt and Fallon are stubborn and hot-headed, and at times I wanted to bash their heads together to try and get some sense into them. But the truth is that I love them. They bring chaos and destruction wherever they go, but these two people were always destined to be together. Wyatt is the matches and Fallon is the fire, and together they’ll gladly watch the world burn if it means they have each other.

𐚁⊹₊ ⋆ I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I knew I loved her. It was like the slow crash of a wave. The erosion of an iron mountain. It just happened.

𐚁⊹₊ ⋆ “Do you feel that?” Her eyes search out mine in the dark. “Our heartbeats. They sync just like wild horses.”

As expected, this book also has an element of suspense and mystery, like a dark cloud looming on the horizon. Is it all realistic? No, but who cares? It’s entertaining! It felt damn good to see Fallon reclaim her power.

Ruby, Charlie, Dakota, Davis, Reese, Ford, Fallon and Wyatt will be missed. I adored the scenes where they were all together because their dynamic is so much fun, and it’s wonderful to see how much they love each other. The final epilogue was the cutest thing; it made me so happy, and I’m glad everyone got their happy ending 🤍

Wyatt & Fallon are everything. These two burn hot. They fight fire with fire, and I was here for every feral second. These two have both struggled with their own demons, and oof this one hurt. Fallon’s determined and strong-willed and searching for who knows what. Wyatt just wants to love her, to be her safe space, but he meets her temper and pushes back as good as he gets. When Fallon’s hurt, Wyatt’s both out of his mind and determined to finally get her to slow down long enough that he can catch up. These two have been meant to be through this entire series. They’ve been through the wringer–their pain and heartache seemed like too much to work through, but they love as hard as they fight, and there is no universe where these two don’t end up together. I loved every heart-wrenching second of their story, and I’m so sad to be leaving Runaway Ranch.

Ride the Sky is book 4, and the last book, in the Runaway Ranch series. I have really enjoyed this small town, western, romantic suspense series by Ava Hunter. This one is kinda second chance, loathe to love, forced proximity, caretaking (she gets injured), and has a bullrider heroine x trainer hero.

While not my favorite in the series, in fact it’s my least fav, it is still a solid enough read. Fallon and Wyatt are a couple who has been anticipated for a while in the series. They have a hate to love situation going on and also have a lot of secrets between them. She took off at the end of book 3 and now it’s months later and Wyatt and his family have tracked her down. Fallon is a prickly heroine and she gets injured when the story starts after bull riding. Now she’s brought back to Runaway Ranch and has to confront the family she ditched, as well as all her unresolved feelings and history with Wyatt.

I usually love a second chance romance with flashbacks, but for some reason I was not a fan of the flashbacks in this one, I actually dreaded those chapters. Also having read this back to back with the 3rd book, there were a few things from the previous books that had already been revealed in those epilogues so parts of other couples journey just didn’t hit the same going back in time with this book. Anyways, solid series overall. Books 1 and 2 are my favorites still!

I am not ready for this series to be over. This was undoubtedly one of my top reads of the year and Fallon and Wyatt were absolutely everything I wanted and more!

✨ Morally Gray Cowboys
✨ Feisty Bull Rider FMC
✨ Possessive MMC
✨ He Falls First
✨ Black Cat x Golden Retriever
✨ Western Small Town

Goodness I loved this book with my whole heart. I have loved the dynamic between Fallon and Wyatt for this entire series and getting their story was everything I ever wanted. Fallon is so feisty and independent and Wyatt is absolutely gone for her. They have some things that needed to be cleared up from their past, but once they give into each other, the love between them is beautiful.

Also these two are spicy, and I loved them so much. The family vibes and the way the brothers are with each other is one of my favorite parts.

I will shout this book’s praises until I am blue in the face. It’s just that good!

This was the perfect finale to the Runaway Ranch series and I’m genuinely so sad to say goodbye to these characters I’ve grown to love so much. 🥹 Fallon and Wyatt were everything; fierce, stubborn, complicated, and so meant for each other. I adored Fallon’s cranky outer shell hiding a huge, loyal heart, and Wyatt? He’s the kind of morally gray cowboy who loves steadily and quietly, just waiting for his moment. The romantic suspense added a sharp edge of tension to all the slow burn angst, caretaking, and loathe-to-love goodness. If you love a heroine in danger, a cowboy with a soft side, and chemistry that simmers, this is for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This👏freaking👏book👏. I devoured it. I had been waiting for Fallon and Wyatt's story since the beginning and this was exactly what I wanted for them! I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give anything away but I will say that this book takes you on a WILD ride. Also... can I just say.. the surprise trope had my JAW ON THE FLOOOOR. It was executed perfectly. 😫

Their chemistry is literally explosive. Fallon is a take no sh*t, bad ass cowgirl and Wyatt is a protective and obsesssed cowboy. There is so much history and pining between them that the tension is at an all time high. The way that Wyatt dropped everything to take care of her and help her heal both physically and emotionally was amazing. She fought it and for her independence but he was able to break down her walls and get her to trust him.

I just loved this book and I LOVED that we got so many cameos of all the couples. I am not ready to leave Runaway Ranch 😭😭

Tropes:
💙 Cowboy x Cowgirl
💙 Small Town
💙 Loathe to Love
💙 Romantic Suspense
💙 Forced Proximity
💙 Secrets & Trauma
💙 Bad Ass FMC

Ava Hunter knows exactly how to write a cowboy, a fierce cowgirl and give them their own stories, their own struggles while weaving them together to be the perfect match for each other. We’ve been waiting for their story and it was everything I wanted and more.

Read this if you’re in the mood for…
- second chance romance
- hate (but is it really hate?) to love
- bull riding
- found family
- hurt/comfort

Oh I loved this book. Each book in the Runaway Ranch series captures my heart. The brief flashback chapters to show their history was so well done and added depth to their “hate” and made the give in that much sweeter. The past couples have their little moments in the book which I love but doesn’t feel overly distracting. I’ll reread this series over and over again.

Here are a few of my favorite things…
- the nickname “trouble”
- the super secret trope that I didn’t mention yet but just know it’s amazing and I screamed
- their story is unique to them so their HEA looks different but fits them perfectly
- everything about the letter

I could keep going about all the things I love because this book was incredible.

HIGHLY recommend

and just like that, the sun has set on runaway ranch.

though I am sad this series has come to an end, fallon and wyatt's romance being the final chapter made for such a fitting and satisfying conclusion, their hate-disguised-as-love dynamic being a point of intrigue for readers of this series from the very beginning. since elements of their past and present were previously left intentionally mysterious, ride the sky felt like a treasure trove of information, of flashbacks, earned insight into a connection that's spanned most of their lives.

truthfully, ride the sky put wyatt and fallow through hell. they fought and clawed their way to their happy ending, a destination they were always heading towards, no matter all the attempts to resist. whether it took a hundred fights or a million, everyone and their mother knew they would eventually see reason. and once they gave in, the true and final claiming of each other, for all to witness, was wonderful.

one of my favorite aspects was just how well these two knew and understood each other. wyatt's ability to read fallon, to know what she needed at any given moment, was admirable. he matched her attitude and fire with his own, fueling the fire of their combustible chemistry. and when she could no longer mask the pain, hide from the trauma that refused to quit the chase, he was her steadying force. in all the ways that count, wyatt and fallon are mirrors of each other, a cowboy and cowgirl who wouldn't trade the danger and adrenaline that lifestyle brings for anything. after recognizing the brands on their soul in the other, how could it ever be anyone else?

and, as always, it was wonderful to see charlie and ruby, davis and dakota, and ford and reese again, to see them all happy and domestic, the extended family growing. each of them found a partner to share their life with, to share the magic of runaway ranch with and it made me giddy every time. I am going to miss all of them and their bullshit box, starting weekly fights at nowhere ways. the montgomery boys, all four of them, let love in, and a group of soldiers were born, ready and willing to protect and honor their family and their home.

also !!! since I refuse to ruin the fun of the surprise, all I can say is that the lead-up and execution of a particular reveal was so well done. it makes for a messy aftermath, in the best way, changing the landscape of the entire book without pulling focus. it was a twist that made perfect sense for wyatt and fallon, given their history.

lastly, when the bonus epilogue of a final book in a series is executed flawlessly, it can be quite emotional, saying goodbye to these characters you spent so much time with. there's an art to a good goodbye, and that is just what ava achieved. each couples was highlighted, as was the larger found family at the core of the series, but fallon and wyatt were still kept centric as the final main couple. no matter where life took them, their home would always be with each other.

long live cowgirls.

thanks to ava hunter and valentine pr for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

“To everyone who has been (impatiently) waiting for Fallon and Wyatt’s story… These idiots-to-lovers are yours now.”

Babes, it’s me. I was everyone. The moment I realised this book had dropped, I forgot I had a job, a family, a life … gone. I was emotionally packed and ready to yeet myself back to Runaway Ranch without hesitation.

And holy emotional rollercoaster, cowgirl where do I even start with this book? First things first: if you’re thinking of picking this up without reading the earlier books, normally I’d say, “Sure, rawdog the interconnected standalones, live your truth.” But NOT THIS TIME. I repeat: NOT. THIS. TIME. If you want the full punch-you-in-the-heart, scream-into-a-pillow emotional payoff of Fallon and Wyatt’s story, you need the buildup from the rest of the series. Trust me. Past-You will thank Present-Me.

This book? Did. Not. Disappoint. About halfway through, I paused and just whispered, “Oh my god… this might be five stars.” And then it kept getting better.

Never in a million years did I think ol’ grumpy cowboy Wyatt would be out here dropping so many declarations of love like he’s starring in a bloody country music video. Like sir?? Please calm down before I propose to you. The bar has been raised and I blame him entirely.

But what I loved most? Wyatt never once tried to tame Fallon’s wild, reckless heart. Even when he got scared and cocked things up a little (classic idiot-to-lover behaviour), he knew exactly who she was and never wanted her to be anything less. UGH. My chest. It’s tight.

And that letter Fallon wrote? Yeah, thanks for that I got misty-eyed like an absolute sap. I wasn’t emotionally prepared.

Also, shoutout to the whole Runaway Ranch crew Charlie, Ruby, Ford, Reese, Davis, Dakota, and my Stede back again to call out Fallon and Wyatt on their bullshit like true family should.

This book made me feel so much. I laughed, I swooned, I ugly cried into my snacks. As a pure vibes reader, this was an easy 5-star read.

I’m devastated this series is over, but listen… if Cole Weston doesn’t get a book, I will riot.

Fave Quotes

“You stayed on that bull for seven seconds.” Wyatt’s soft, soothing drawl rolls through me better than any pain pill. “Nobody could believe it. They couldn’t breathe. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. You were the wind. You rode the fucking sky.” I lower my arm to look at him. “I did?” He smiles. “Yeah, Trouble. You did.”

“Look at me,” he orders fiercely, and I do. He grips my chin. “You deserve everything good and beautiful, Fallon. You deserve wild horses and sunsets. And you deserve me.” He grins. “Hell, we deserve each other. Too reckless, too stupid.”

The gall of the man to make me fall in love with him.

“Runaway Ranch will be here when you come home.”

It’s time to say goodbye to Runaway Ranch with this final installment. As always Ava delivers us a cowboy romance full of emotional depth and suspense. I’ve loved this group of characters and am happy they all got a beautiful ending.

We knew Fallon and Wyatt were going to be explosive going into this book. They had great build up and tension. Those I loathe you but I’m definitely secretly in love with you vibes. They are the most entertaining of all the couples with their intense dynamic and clashing personalities. Expect a lot of rowdy bar fights. I love them together. He calls her trouble and she commands the ground he walks on. It was perfect. Wyatt was so sweet with her and knew exactly how to handle her feisty personality. Fallon is such a headstrong woman, she went through a lot of growth during this story. Her emotional journey was definitely a tough one. Loved the surprises throughout this book and the ending felt like an episode of criminal minds. Overall satisfying ending to a great series!

This series is for anyone who wants small town romance on a ranch with a great found family, protective cowboys and some suspense.

“We’re all broken, but you don’t need to be fixed.”

“Loved him even when I hated him. Because it was easier to hold my heart close than let it belong to someone else.”

“For the rest of my damn days, it’ll always be you.”

OMGG WHYYYYY AVA. YOU BROKE ME DOWN TO MY SOUL AND ITS ALL WYATT MONTGOMERY’S FAULT. I’m dead. RIP ME. That’s the review. Enjoy your mental torment with a heaping side of sexiness.

This is the 4th and final book in the Runaway Ranch series. I’ve been frothing at the mouth for Wyatt and Fallon’s story and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Y’all are not ready for this.

We finally learn just what the deal is with Wyatt and Fallon. We get flashbacks galore. There’s romantic suspense as it seems someone is out to get Fallon. But OMG THE ANGST. Honestly, ALL of them need therapy. But the emotional upheaval in this is one for the record books.

Wyatt is such a freaking SIMP for Fallon. She doesn’t want to need a man, rely on anyone but herself and has herself so closed off to love it’s laughable. But it is so freaking satisfying seeing these two idiots find their way to each other.

And is there ever a SPOILER trope! This book was so freaking good. This entire series has altered by brain chemistry and I’ll never be the same.

Thank you Ava for gifting us Charlie Montgomery and his merry band of morally grey cowboy brothers and the women who love them. Charlie will forever be stamped on my heart but like the Grinch, my heart grew sizes too big to fit all the Montgomerys and Resurrection Montana into it.

“I’ve never seen two idiots more right for each other. You’d be a fool to let her go.”

I cannot believe I’m done with the Runaway Ranch Series. The Montgomery brothers are the best bunch of morally grey men who will do anything, and I mean anything, to protect their ladies and their families.

Fallon and Wyatt’s story has been brewing in the background since the first book in the series and we’ve all been dying to finally get our hands on them. Ava Hunter told their story beautifully and it was the perfect way to wrap up this series.

What I love most about Fallon and Wyatt is that they are both really messy characters who have a lot of flaws, but are also so lovable.

You can read these books as standalones, there will be spoilers for the other couples and the other books if you read them out of order.

I won’t say a lot else about this book because I don’t want to spoil anything. The whole series takes place on a ranch/cowboy-ish setting and there are elements of suspense built into the romantic stories.

Thank you to Ava Hunter for the arc. All opinions are my own.

This was definitely my most anticipated book in this series, and it did not disappoint. The surprise trope!?!? I was SCREAMINGGGGG. I loved the forced proximity in here, and how the heroine had to really confront her trauma from the past that we saw play out in a previous book. And I just love this family and the heroes so much, so it was so fun and nostalgic seeing all of the brothers paired off, but still so protective of each other and their loved ones. Such a great ending to an amazing series!!

An epic end to an era and what a ride it has been!

What sets this series apart is the Montgomery Men and the formidable women they are utterly devoted to. I adore a strong female lead and Ava incorporates this trait flawlessly into all of her main characters. In addition, Ava seamlessly weaves together all the elements I cherish in a cowboy romance with a mysterious side plot that infuses the story with a sense of thrill.

Wyatt and Fallon are the type of characters that you love from the moment they’re introduced. It’s only fair Ava made us wait until the final book to reveal their epic journey to one another. The flashbacks between the present timeline and their past were executed well, and the pace of revealing truths was perfect. I absolutely adore idiots in love, and boy, are these two a suitable fit for that title lol. Despite their outward animosity, it’s evident from the beginning that they share a deep love and care for each other. Witnessing their realization of their feelings and the admissions that followed was incredibly rewarding. Their love is stubborn, intense, passionate, intimate and fiercely protective. I can’t imagine their story going any other way.

The epilogue and bonus epilogues were delightful surprises. As a reader, I believe a good, conclusive epilogue is crucial for a series of three or four books. I was overjoyed for each couple and how their lives unfolded over the decade since Ruby’s journey at Runaway Ranch began. Finding so many lovable characters in one series is a remarkable feat—one that Ava Hunter expertly achieved.

Goodbye, for now, Runaway Ranch. Until I visit (inevitably reread it) again.

Thank you Ava Hunter for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

"don’t protect your heart by pretending you don’t have one.” ⊹₊⟡

i have been anticipating this book and dreading this book for so long! the runaway ranch series has definitely earned a special place in my heart; the found family, the small town setting, the cowboys and their strong-willed women. i have just adored this series, start to finish.

fallon and wyatt's story is one for the books; they've been in the background for the first three novels, which built up a lot of anticipation for their actual story. and boy, did it deliver! i loved the plot for this story and thought it fit so well with the relationship dynamic; fallon is a total badass, who is strong as hell, and yet after a serious injury, she has to rely on the help of wyatt, the man she hates (or loves?) the most.

all of the tropes included in this made me squeal in the best way possible and i just couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to this series. i cannot wait to reread these books for years to come! i definitely need to pick up more of ava hunter's books, as well. i really love how transportive her writing is, while remaining simple and to the point. very poignant! i'm kind of hoping for a spin off series, or at least a spin off book about cole weston, fallon's nemesis. he definitely redeemed himself by the end of the book and i'm super interested to see where his life takes him!

overall, another fantastic addition to this series. enjoyed it with my whole heart, and i definitely cried at the epilogue. i loved seeing everyone happy and together!!

cawpile systemcharacters 10/10, atmosphere/setting 9/10, writing 9/10, plot 10/10, intrigue 10/10, logic/relationships 9/10, enjoyment 10/10 ⊹₊⟡

What a fantastic end to the Runaway Ranch Series! This has been one of my most anticipated reads for the year and it did not disappoint. This series has a way of making you feel all of the emotions and fall in love with the characters. The mystery and suspense had me on my toes!

Both Wyatt and Fallon are so stubborn. They both have been denying their feelings for each other for years. The loathe to love in this book is *chef's kiss*. Talk about slooooooow burn. I don't normally like miscommunication but it was done really well that I didn't even notice it. There is something so satisfying about a character who has their walls built so high to watch them slowly crumble and becoming soft. Fallon has got to be my favorite character: she's tough and never backs down from a fight.

While I'm sad this series has come to an end it was fantastic. I can't wait to see what Ava does next!

Thank Ava for the gifted ebook.

***ARC Review***

Book 4 in the Runaway Ranch Series, "Ride the Sky" was an epic conclusion to an amazing series. Both Fallon and Wyatt were haunted by trauma from their past, which ensued events that threatened their ability to be together. Despite all life threw their way, it was plain to see that Fallon and Wyatt were each other's person.

Some key themes in "Ride the Sky" included:
-Found family
-Love/hate relationship
-Caretaking
-Forced proximity
-Secrets
-Suspence

I just loved the way in which Ava Hunter wrote the Runaway Ranch series. It was written in such a cohesive manner. In turn, I loved the way Fallon and Wyatt's book was written because it allowed their story to flow so well, making it easy to understand why things had happened the way they did. A top point of "Ride the Sky" was how Fallon was portrayed to be a strong, independent FMC and how Wyatt (MMC) was so supportive of that.
Fallon and Wyatt's relationship was perfection...the longing, the build-up, their explosive connection...top tier!

With everything that was happening with Fallon and Wyatt, it was obvious that family was the most important thing to the Montgomery brothers. I loved how they continuously showed they would do anything and everything to protect those they loved the most, no matter the cost.
The entirety of "Ride the Sky" was amazing, but I especially loved the suspense aspect of the story. I just couldn't put the book down because of it!

So, if you love a romance story with a strong FMC and a kind-hearted, supportive MMC, a caring family and a plot with suspenseful twists, then "Ride the Sky" is the perfect book for you.

It's sad to say goodbye to the Montgomery family, but this whole series was fantastic and "Ride the Sky" was the perfect way to close the chapter to Runaway Ranch.

Fantastic!! Absolutely fantastic! Fallon and the rest of this family can not catch a break! They just have been through so much and my heart hurts for them. Fallon is a fighter! She is strong, determined, stubborn and never gives up! Wyatt is a cowboy through and through but if there’s one thing he’s not messing around with it’s Fallon!!!!! They have been through so much and I loved their story! Check any content warnings.

3.5 stars. These Montgomery brothers... damn.

I'm really glad that Wyatt and Fallon finally got their shit together, though it sucks that it took falling off a bull to get their heads out of their asses. Fallon is largely unlikable through the first three books but she's well redeemed her.

This book has less of the suspense than the other books, with the priority being Wyatt & Fallon's relationship. The suspense that was here was so good that I wish there was more of it.

I'm gonna miss Runaway Ranch :(

This was absolute perfection and the best way to end the series.
I have been waiting for Fallon and Wyatt’s story from the start and it didn’t disappoint.
I loved the way that they healed each other and grew as a couple. Both are so stubborn and that led to some issues that kept them from admitting their true feelings for each other and kept them apart, but eventually the realize it’s they’ve always been It for one another.
This book brought tears to my eyes several times, but also warmed my heart.
