Born in the firelit domain of the under realm, Matilda is the youngest goddess of her clan, blessed with humble messenger magic. But in a land where gods often kill each other to steal power and alliances break as quickly as they are forged, Matilda must come of age sooner than most. She may be known to carry words and letters through the realms, but she holds a secret she must hide from even her dearest of allies to ensure her survival. And to complicate matters . . . there is a mortal boy who dreams of her, despite the fact they have never met in the waking world.

Ten years ago, Vincent of Beckett wrote to Matilda on the darkest night of his life―begging the goddess he befriended in dreams to help him. When his request went unanswered, Vincent moved on, becoming the hardened, irreverent lord of the river who has long forgotten Matilda. That is, until she comes tumbling into his bedroom window with a letter for him.

As Fate would have it, Matilda and Vincent were destined to find each other beyond dreams. There may be a chance for Matilda to rewrite the blood-soaked ways of the gods, but at immense sacrifice. She will have to face something she fears even more than losing her magic: to be vulnerable, and to allow herself to finally be loved.

Beautifully Wounded, Wildly Devastating!

This book is my language—hauntingly beautiful prose, devastatingly raw emotions, tropes that never miss, ache, the letters… it’s like the author raided my brain and wrote a dream novel. Nothing beats a beautifully written YA fantasy that rips your heart out and heals it in the same breath. and characters that will live rent free in my head forever. If a book could bruise me in the best way, it’s this one.. A fever dream of angst and love—I’m obsessed. The definition of a book that ruins you beautifully.

Did I finish the book… or did the book finish me? I’ll never truly know. What I do know is that Wild Reverence carved itself into my soul—and I would gladly let it again. Hijacked my brain, wrecked my sleep schedule, and left my soul wandering long after the last page… and I’m not even mad about it.
-♾️ stars because “emotional devastation” is my brand.
Easily one of my top reads of the year!

Wild Reverence deserves more than a rushed review, so I’ll be back when my heart can string sentences instead of sobs. Stay tuned—because once I manage to put words together, it’s going to be a lot.

⋆𐙚₊˚⊹“My home is your home. My arms are a haven for you to rest. My last name is yours if you desire it. I will love you to my grave, and even beyond it.”⋆𐙚₊˚⊹

I have so many feelings about this book that I honestly don’t even know where to begin. This story completely swept me away—it was magical, emotional, and so beautifully written that I found myself rereading scenes just to feel them again.

At its core, this book is about love, trust, fate, and the painful but necessary journey of self-discovery. It’s about choosing to keep going even when the world has been cruel, and learning to trust yourself enough to hold on to love when it finally finds you.

╰┈➤ minor spoilers might be mentioned in this review

The author dedicated it “to anyone who has ever had to let go of someone they love”—and I think that line alone encapsulates the entire essence of the story. It’s a book about holding on and letting go, about the ache of loss and the beauty of finding someone who makes that ache feel bearable. That dedication set the tone for everything that followed.

𓍼 I’ll admit, I went into this book with hesitation. I had planned to read Divine Rivals first, since it takes place in the same world, but I simply didn’t have the time. On top of that, I saw so much mixed discourse online. People called it boring, said it lacked the “magic” of Divine Rivals, and warned that it was slow. Because of that, I opened the first pages nervously, bracing myself for disappointment. But what happened was the complete opposite. The deeper I went, the more I realized how wrong those fears were. By the time I finished, I had tears streaming down my face and a heart so full I could barely put into words what the story had given me. This wasn’t just a pleasant surprise—it was a treasure I didn’t know I needed.

I’m still fairly new to fantasy, but every time I dive into the genre, it feels like it reshapes the way I see storytelling. With every book, I discover new reasons to fall in love with it—whether it’s the sprawling world-building, the depth of the characters, or the way magic becomes a metaphor for something greater. This book reminded me why fantasy has quickly become one of my favorite genres. It pulled me out of the reading slump I’ve been struggling with for weeks. It kept me engaged, hungry to know what would happen next, even when I thought I was too tired to keep reading. Fantasy is starting to feel like home to me, and this book played a big part in that.🩶

𓍼 Yes, the world-building was confusing at first—I won’t lie. Everything tripped me up in the beginning, and I worried I wouldn’t be able to follow along. But little by little, piece by piece, the world started to open up. The rules of the magic system, the divisions between worlds, the balance between immortals and mortals—all of it became clear the deeper I went. By the middle of the book, I wasn’t confused anymore; I was enchanted.

𓍯𓂃“Love amongst immortals is a weakness.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

The writing in this book was breathtaking. Rebecca Ross doesn’t just tell a story—she crafts it, line by line, like poetry. Her words were vivid enough to transport me into the heart of every scene. I could feel the tension in battles, taste the air of the mortal world, and see the golden glow of the gods’ realm as if it were right in front of me. There were moments where my heart was pounding so hard I had to physically stop reading just to breathe. And yet there were also quiet, delicate lines that made me want to cry simply because of their beauty. That balance—between intensity and softness—is what made the book feel alive. it’s a long book, but not once did I feel like it dragged. In fact, I devoured half of it in a single day because I couldn’t put it down. It consumed me, body and soul.

𝜗𝜚⋆₊˚characters:

ೃ𓍯𓂃⋆˚࿔Matilda 𓂃˙⋆✮

One of the reasons I’m falling in love with fantasy is because of the heroines. They are so often strong, independent, and resilient—and Matilda is the perfect example of that. Her life was full of hardship, caught between being an underlying and a skyward, never knowing who to trust or if she would be hunted down for what she was. Yet despite all of that, she grew into a clever, compassionate, and powerful young woman.

Her journey was both heartbreaking and inspiring. She had to grow up too quickly, facing challenges without allies, save for Bade (who stole my heart completely). And still, she carried herself with grace. When she entered the mortal world, the way she immediately began to care for the people of Wyndrift showed her true heart of gold. She is fierce, but she is also gentle, and that balance made her a heroine I’ll never forget.

ೃ𓍯𓂃 ⋆˚࿔Vincent𓂃 ࣪˖➴

And then there’s Vincent. The moment I saw we would get his POV, I nearly screamed. Because if you want to read about a man who yearns—deeply, desperately, with every fiber of his being—Vincent is that man. The longing between him and Matilda was enough to shatter me. He thought of her constantly, even when he only saw her in dreams. He carried her with him like a secret flame, one that guided him even in his darkest moments. Despite being a mortal, he wanted nothing more than to protect her.

𓍯𓂃“She was not mine by spoken vow but something deeper. Something that felt older, stronger, darker, like a language that had been sung centuries ago but had now been forgotten. Something that simmered in the blood, calling to me, calling to her.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

I also enjoyed his journey in this book, how he had to take care as the king when he wasn’t ready but he still gave his all for the people he loves, how he protected Nathaniel. Everything about him is perfect!

And his words!!!!!!! The letter he wrote to Matilda made me sob. His protectiveness, his tenderness, his reverence for her—even kissing her scars; showing love not just for her beauty, but for her pain and her strength—cemented him as one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. His words still echo in my mind:—cemented him as one of my top book boyfriends. Lines like “My wife will have anything she wants”and “There came a moment when I looked at you and could not breathe” still echo in my mind. Vincent isn’t just romantic; he’s devoted to the point of selflessness. He would rather die than live without her, and that is exactly the kind of love story that destroys me.

𓍯𓂃“If it takes you,” I said, “then let it also take me. Don’t leave me behind like this, Red.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥˚✿ °. Matilda & Vincent:
soulmates ᰔ

Together, these two are breathtaking. They mirror each other in so many ways: both scarred by betrayal, both isolated in their pain, both willing to sacrifice everything for the people they love. And yet, instead of becoming hardened, they remain selfless. Their love is not toxic or selfish—it is patient, enduring, and filled with yearning. They embody the goddess x mortal boy trope perfectly. The letters, the waiting, the stolen moments—it’s everything I could have wanted. They anchor each other, they ground each other, and their bond feels ancient and inevitable, like something written in the stars long before either of them existed.

𓍯𓂃"He was holding on to me like he was an anchor in a storm. A weight to keep me grounded. He held me because he feared I was about to be carried away. And should I be, he was so entwined with me that the beast would have to take us together.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

Their romance is slow but not in a frustrating way. It builds patiently, like a fire catching spark after spark until it’s a roaring blaze. If you’re here only for the romance, you might wish for more, but personally, I adored the pacing. This is a love story that doesn’t rush. It simmers. It yearns. It waits. And when it finally blooms, it feels all the more powerful because of that waiting.

𓍯𓂃 “I would wait a thousand years for you,” Vincent said. “If you asked me, I would wait for you until only my bones remained upon an altar. But if you must leave again, then let me follow you, Red.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

ೃ𓍯𓂃 ⋆˚࿔ Bade & Adria ִ ࣪𖤐˚⋆

And now… let’s talk about Bade and Adria, because THEY. OWN. MY. HEART.

Honestly, in the beginning, they were the reason I kept reading. I want, no, I NEED more of them. I will literally beg on my knees for a book about them. Imagine, the god of war going all soft for a mortal after fighting the other😩😩 GIVE IT TO MEEEEEE. Loved how supportive Adria was to Matilda and how bade always had her back.

𓍯𓂃”I watched him gaze down at Adria. I had never seen such a delicate expression on his angular, ugly face before. As if he was made of feathers, thistledown, sun-warmed sand. Soft. “Don’t,” Adria said, her voice frayed and weak. “Don’t give . . . those up for . . . me.” She closed her eyes again as he caressed her hair”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

╰┈➤ I NEED THEIR BOOK LIKE THE AIR I BREATHE

But what truly broke me was Bade’s bond with Matilda. Though not her father by blood, he became the father figure she had always longed for. He protected her, guided her, loved her in a way no one else had. Their relationship brought me to tears more times than I can count. By the time I reached Chapter 78, I was wrecked. Their bond shattered me and healed me all at once. Bade wasn’t just a side character—he felt like the beating heart of the story, the protector who quietly carried more love than anyone realized. He is my favorite character of the book

𓍯𓂃“I was the daughter he would never have. The child he had secretly wanted.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

𓍯𓂃”I walked to him, and he surprised me yet again when he opened his arms and drew me into them, embracing me tightly. I laid my ear upon his chest, where I could hear the steady thrum of his heart—his fault line, the weak point in his armor—and I closed my eyes.”𓂃 𓈒𓏸

╰┈➤ I’m crying again😭😭

. . . ⇢ ˗ˏˋ [ final thoughts ] ࿐ྂ

This book was everything I didn’t know I needed. It was tender, poetic, heartbreaking, and healing all at once. I went in scared and came out in awe, grateful for the love, pain, and beauty these characters gave me. It’s not just a fantasy novel—it’s a story about sacrifice, about the weight of love, about finding strength in the people who choose to stay. And it left me breathless.

“For anyone who has ever had to let go of someone they love”

𓈀 🪻 𓄹𓂃 thank you to netgalley and st. martin’s press for the advanced readers copy!

“And I wondered how it was possible for my heart to miss something that I had never experienced.”

this book. THIS. BOOK. i loved everything about it. rebecca’s writing is so utterly beautiful and magical. i was so immersed in this book and this story. being back in the world of divine rivals felt like coming home but it also made me look at that series with an entirely different perspective! i highly recommend going into this book blind!!

𓍢⊹ 𖧧 ࣪

“Love amongst immortals is a weakness.”

we learn more about the entirety of the gods; powers, motivations, lifestyle, etc!! it was so intriguing to me and like nothing i’ve ever read before! we got to see some of the gods that were introduced in divine rivals and knowing more about them in depth added to much that was missing in the duology!

“He held me like a mortal father embraces his daughter, like nothing could tear me from him.”

i will have to say my favorite god is bade, he wasnt the main focus but his story was SO interesting!!! the letter, adria, everything after that!! his relationship to matilda brought tears to my eyes.

“I could have fallen to my knees to know I had been dreaming of her all this time.”

in this story, we have the goddess x mortal trope which was EVERYTHING.

it all starts with a dream. a boy with nightmares and a goddess who answers. a bond that formed to protect from the fears that haunt. their first meeting was EVERYTHING TO ME. it was so pure.

i loved how we got a lot of backstory before getting into the main plot, it added so much depth!!

“My wife will have anything she wants.”

now if there’s a marriage of convenience, i will be there!!! the my wife moments get me EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! (giggling and kicking my feet!!!!)

“The truth was . . . I was not accustomed to this: allowing someone to touch me with such ease. To accept it, as natural as breathing. To trust another hand so implicitly. It was not because I did not crave touch, for I did. A desire I rarely voiced for fear of how it might swell. The avoidance was for my own survival, an effort to protect my fault line.”

Let it go, he had said into my hair. Let it go, and yet I could not. I was too afraid to allow myself to come undone. If one loose thread was pulled, I worried the entire tapestry would unravel.”

i know i already mentioned this but, i just love rebecca’s writing so much!! i have hundreds of highlights!! there are so many quotes that i kept of rereading and rereading because of how they made me feel and how deeply they hit.

“A tether formed between us. Invisible but undeniable. A cord wound from my rib to his.”

“Stay. Stay with me a little longer.”
“How long?”
“However long you can give me, Red.”

the YEARNING in this book was undeniable. the history between them. the want. the care. the protectiveness. the LONGING!! EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM!!!!

“She smiled at my poor attempt of a jest. But I found that I was eager to do it again, if only to stir such light within her.”

“As with all divines, she was beautiful in a way that robbed breath and stole into dreams. I had always thought such of her, even when we were children.”

vincent’s pov was EVERYTHING to me. i love when books have the mmc’s pov and we get to see their love through their eyes!! and oh was this one beautiful.

“He longs to worship you, but not in the way you think.”

OOOOOH y’all for a second i forgot this was an adult fantasy!!! and oh was it beautifully romantic <3

… vincent’s letter. THE LETTER. i won’t quote it as for it’ll be a better experience reading it for the first time blindly but just know, TEARS WERE BROUGHT TO MY EYES!!!!!

“We were doomed, she and I.
One day, I would perish, and she would live on, endless as the stars.
But if we were doomed, then let us fully embrace it.”

i was on the edge of my seat when it came to the final part. heart was beating fast and i felt so much anguish and hope at the same time. jaw was on the floor and tears were streaming down my face. it was perfect and heart wrenching at the same time; i would do anything to read this book for the first time again. the way everything went down and how it ended was truly beautiful.

i will forever be amazed by rebecca’s writing. the ending truly had me eyes wide and jaw on the floor. the wardrobe, the letter, the typewriters, the infamous vows…. set centuries before divine rivals and somehow everything tied together so perfect; the parallels were genius.

i’m so excited for everyone to read this book. it was extraordinary.

”This is the beginning of the end, If heartless gods can be made soft by such love, we are all doomed.”

Rebecca Ross, how were you able to write such a book?? How can anyone write something like this to begin with ??

➸ we follow a goddess named matilda who’s the youngest in her clan. but she was born in a time were gods were slaughtering each other to steal powers, so she must come of age sooner than most. she’s the herald of the gods. known to carry words and letters through the realms, but she have a secret. a mortal boy named vincent is dreaming of her despite the fact that they never met. i won’t say anything else about the plot bc it’s an experience you should live on your own <3

wild reverence is set in the same world as the letters of enchantment duet, It’s a prequel not in the sense of being a backstory for them, but because it takes place chronologically before enva sang her song and before romaniris exchanged letters.

often times in the fantasy genre authors put the lore of gods in their stories, now obviously in each series it’s a different creation but we always have this sub-plot of gods in fantastical books. but we either never get to see who the gods are (like in most books) or they rarely get generously explored (like in crowns of nyaxia series) but WR did the undid. it’s a book about the gods. and i found that severely interesting, i don’t know if this has been done before but i personally never read it so I’m gonna praise it as such.

”I liked how we were both dreaming side by side, this time with our eyes open. She made the impossible seem like it was within reach.”

i absolutely did not expect to be taken away by this book specially since I thought that the “letters of enchantment duet” was okay-ish and i wasn’t blinded by it, but my trusted reviewers loved this one so i went in with so much hope but this book surpassed those expectations to another dimension, I swear!! it was so emotionally driven and not in the sad sense per se but in a sense that was so meaningful in moving. every decision made, every heart break was done by so much history behind it that it just aches? it was unbelievably beautiful to read. such a beautiful book. i loved watching vincent and matilda find support, then friendship, then love through YEARS. gosh these babies suffered so long to be reunited in each other’s arms.

"But I think you know that the soul can be found in words, and words within the soul. The two reflect each other in the sky, do they not?"

exactly this ^ 😭 THIS is why i read!!

➸ i think what made the book overall engaging despite being slow paced is the fact that we were having two sets of journeys to follow. matilda and her adventure to get strong. discover herself and her identity that kept on evolving till literally the last pages. form allies while simultaneously not get too vulnerable because the gods around her are evil as trying and failing so painfully to convince herself that she should be a heartless goddess who don’t need love. and we also follow vincent’s story and his battle with his uncle, his relationship w his brother and the grief he faced while trying and failing so painfully to convince himself that he should move on from the goddess who never stay put in one place. it was all so achingly raw!!

i loved the writing much more here and in my humble opinion, it has improved since DV. it was smooth and immersive and it pulls you in with effortless magic. every sentence and emotion was written in a deeply touching prose that you just gonna sit and admire and kinda reread certain things to let them soak into your bones. very atmospheric in the power it have to pull me so deep i was drowning in the book. the release date is SO GOOD? like this is such an autumn/ winter book that you’d love to cozy up to with a blanket and a hot drink 🥹 i also saw that the narrator of DV Rebecca Norfolk (who i loved immensely) is narrating this as well, so if a reread calls i’ll definitely do the audio version!!

let’s also take a moment to celebrate the fact that this is the first time in my life I enjoyed a slow paced book. i didn’t mind the slow progression at all because it added up to an intense pay off. giving who they are and what they were going through, they needed that slow burn that let them grief and joy and venture and battle and dance and kiss and cry and departure and reunite just to find that final unbreakable form of themselves so i couldn’t mind the slow build. matter of fact i LOVED it because I didn’t want the book to end.

”but who could hold on to the wind? better yet—who would be so foolish as to trust—to love such a wild being?”

➷ matilda was an enigma among the gods of her kind. from the moment we meet her as a child, her fate and the stories written in her constellation were blurry, the universe itself wasn’t ready to reveal them. then we watch her grow into this frighteningly composed goddess. powerful, intelligent, resilient, and it was impossible for me to not be struck by the way she carries herself. she endured so much pain, yet she treated each wound as a lesson, moving forward without ever looking back. it touched me on a personal lever. seeing the gradual shift in her heart. she kept her guards up, being closed off from everyone, because that’s what she had been taught: that gods are supposed to be heartless, untouched by emotion, and certainly never swayed by mortals. and yet, watching her slowly allow herself to trust Vincent, to let down her walls piece by piece, was so moving. there was something so magical in the way she struggled against everything she was told she should be. what i gathered after finishing is that matilda was born and crated to be the balance of the world. the mortal and the immortal. she’s the perfect definition of both worlds. she was everything in between, and i think that’s why at the epilogue told by enva’s pov kept referring to how special she is.

(i also want to briefly touch upon that her relationship with bade was one of the brightest highlights in the book. when she called him father for the first time… sobbing!!)

”My life feels brief as the dew when I compare it to your ocean, but if you will have me, this is what I offer you. My home is your home. My arms are a haven for you to rest. My last name is yours if you desire it. I will love you to my grave, and even beyond it.”

➷ vincent… oh, where do I even start? If you thought roman was pathetic in love, then just wait until you see him. this man single-handedly revived the very meaning of yearning and I swear, I was melting at every second of it. he aches for her in every way: mentally, physically, emotionally. she is, quite literally, his goddess. he burns for his red. his love for her runs so deep that it borders on pathetic, it was breathtaking to witness how completely she undid him 😫 I think that from his childhood, he clung to her in his dreams out of some kind of innocent hero worship. she was the one who pulled him from his nightmares, and that boy looked up to her even when she was still just a young, nameless goddess. and after all those years, even when his letters went unanswered and he saw her again for the first time… all that admiration, all that devotion, came flooding back. It was heartbreaking watching him try to shove it down, because in his mind, how could a goddess ever return the love that had already driven him to damnation for a mere mortal? — vincent was such a beautiful soul. his selfishness and his love, especially the way he gave so much of himself for his brothers was touching in a way that made him impossible not to root for. he was easy to love, truly, he was the embodiment of yearning: a man who waited years upon years for his goddess, without ever having the promise that she would return to him. yet, he never stopped.

”I had always known that I could not hold on to her. I could run in her wake for as long as I had strength, but I was destined to grow tired and slow. It did not matter how much I desired it; some moments, I could draw close enough to share the same breath as her. I could seal her mouth with my own, I could dream of growing old at her side. But there were other moments when I knew I could not follow her.“

RR i only forgive you for writing such painful words because you gave them a forever in the literal sense!!

their relationship together was utter perfection, mortal x immortal trope you will always be otherworldly >>>

my only criticism is that I wish we had gotten more moments of them being together toward the end. after everything they went through and all the suffering they endured, it felt like they truly deserved more tender, shared moments and page time. In that sense, I couldn’t help but feel a little robbed of that…

「 now this part is spoiler-y so you can skip it if you want but i now feel so smart by the fact that from the very beginning when matilda was delivering letters i had a thought that “what if she’s the one who created the magical typewriters?” iykyk and it was TRUE 😭 i mean.. it’s enva’s idea but it was matilda’s magic and im happy i got that theory right 」

“stay. stay with me a little longer.” “how long?” “however long you can give me, red.”

“if you asked me, i would wait for you until only my bones remained on upon the altar.”

AHHHH. another amazing, entertaining, whimsical romantasy. firstly, thank you so much, netgalley—this book is out on september, 2nd! rebecca ross has left me speechless. when i first received this ARC, i was flabbergasted. i didn't read the description or synopsis of this book, and i am so glad for that. going into this world—as clueless as possible—was the best thing i could've done. rebecca's way of crafting this story, this world, these characters, spoke to me. her writing is so vivid and descriptive, which adds to the intricate layers of this plot. i found myself pausing, stopping this book, just so i could savor it longer. this isn't the type of story that will leave me anytime soon. once i finished, i found myself going back through my highlights just to feel something again. if you read, divine rivals and wanted more ornate worldbuilding, a lavish plot, detailed characters—this is the book for you. i can't wait to see what everyone thinks of this.

for starters, this book moves like water—scenic and evocative. this feeling can be chalked up to the lyrical prose and magical world building, as it is stunning. these aren't just words on paper. there is so much life to this story, which is hard to come across these days in fantasy. the plot is woven together quite seamlessly and there is so much emotion and depth rebecca put into these characters. this story follows our heroine, matilda, and she is easily the best aspect of this book. she is a goddess and is the youngest one there trying to stop other gods from killing each other. that's all i will say because it's better to go in blind. i love the lore of how the gods came to be, and how matilda is carrying herself throughout this world. she is such a powerful character—both physically and mentally—and carries herself in such an inspiring way. her character arc was beautiful.

obviously, i have to mention the romance. vincient is a pathetic, obsessed, yearner, and i love him so much. the romantic element in this story was stunning to read about. i am not the biggest fan of the “mortal” x “immortal” trope, but it works so well in this book. everything from the letters, to him waiting years; despite never seeing her, made this book what it is. he and matilda were so pure and their love means everything to me. these are two souls who are unapologetically themselves, yet they have to make so many sacrifices—including each other. one of the qualms i have with this book, is wishing we got to spend more time with them as a couple, regardless of what those scenes were. there are some hauntingly beautiful quotes that represent this couple, but i do wish we got to witness more of their relationship on page. the pockets that we did get to see—i will forever treasure.

by the time i finished this book, i felt like a shell of a human. i was not ready to let go of this world. this journey has been deeply intoxicating and stimulating. after so many fantasy books, this is one of the first ones where i NEEDED to know what happened next. i stayed up late desperately trying to finish this before it was out. the most salient aspect of this, is how the theme and the message linger even after closing the book. the different topics explored—love, friendship, courage, bravery, and self-discovery—is something everyone can relate to. this book isn't just a story—a novel. it was an experience. the main characters, the side characters, are some that i will never forget. this book will be with me for a long time. i am forever grateful i got an advanced copy. i can't wait to have this on my shelf.

here are some of my favorite quotes — 🍂🤎

“my life feels as the dew when i compare it to your ocean, but if you will have me, this is what i offer you. my home is your home. my arms are a haven for you to rest. my last name is yours if you desire it. i will love you to my grave, and even beyond it.”

“i did not give myself time to second guess or doubt. i let my body lead, not my mind. my hands framed her face and i kissed her on the mouth.”

“as with all divines, she was beautiful in a way that robbed breath and stole into dreams. i had always thought such of her, even when we were children.”

“you hold on to her. but who could hold on to the wind? and better yet—who would be so foolish as to trust—to love—such a wild being?”

“but i think you know that the soul can be found in words, and words within the soul. the two reflect each other in the sky, do they not?”

“but in my heart, she had always been the wind, never staying in one place for too long...but there were moments when i knew i could not follow her.”

“matilda stood close to me, moonlight and solemn. i could see the stars shining in her hair, like the constellations had drifted from the heavens to crown her.”

just shoot me now, thanks!

I am almost speechless as to how amazing this novel really is. Even though I finished this book, this book is really the one who finished me. I cried a lot and had a lot of emotions, while reading this. This book is adventurous, mysterious, hopeful, tense, sad, dark and reflective. The writing of this book by the author is perfection. It is beautifully written, original, came with vivid descriptions and was extremely addicting! This is a medium paced read that consists of a unique magical system. This book’s characters were strongly developed and lovable!

This is an adult slow burn romance fantasy! It also has mythic elements, which I loved! This book can be read as a standalone or as a prequel to the book “Letters of Enchantment”. This comes with a dual point of view, a young messenger goddess named Matilda and a mortal named Vincent. I absolutely loved the immersive world building and the emotional depth this book has. I really felt the chemistry and the romantic connection between the two main characters. I feel like the side characters in this book definitely stood out. The power of vulnerability is a big and important theme in this book. It will forever be a memorable story that I will never forget!

Content warnings include sexual content, death, murder and violence. I highly recommend this book to readers that enjoyed the book “A Court of Mist and Fury” by Sarah J. Maas!

Thank you to NetGalley, author Rebecca Ross and St. Martin's Press | Saturday Books for this eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This book is expected to be published September 2, 2025!

Here’s another review that made me want to shout from the rooftops and even write a long song for. That’s how deeply this book hit me.

I didn’t just read Wild Reverence — I lived inside it. From the first page, I felt that quiet, undeniable pull that only a truly special book has, the kind that makes you forget the world around you. Rebecca Ross took me on a journey that was at once intimate and epic, and I came out of it both breathless and strangely healed, like I’d been walking through someone else’s myth and found pieces of myself along the way.

The world Ross built is spellbinding — lush, layered, and alive in a way that few fantasies manage to be. There’s myth woven into every shadow and whisper, gods with motives as flawed and raw as the mortals who worship them, and a history that feels so real I caught myself wondering what hidden door I’d have to find to step into it myself. The late nights I spent turning these pages didn’t feel like reading; they felt like crossing into another realm and watching its secrets unfold.

But what truly gripped me wasn’t just the atmosphere or the sweeping mythology — it was the people who lived within it. Matilda in particular. Her journey from grief and betrayal into strength and selfhood was devastating and beautiful. She’s the kind of heroine who doesn’t just win battles; she claws her way through heartbreak, through choices that cut her open, and somehow keeps moving forward. Watching her decide not only who she wanted to be, but who she refused to let others make her into, broke me in the best way.

And then there’s Vincent. Their connection — fragile, hesitant, but laced with a kind of inevitability — was one of the most genuine romances I’ve read in a long time. This isn’t the kind of love that arrives wrapped in perfection. It’s built out of longing glances, unspoken truths, and the unshakable sense that two people have found in each other what the world would rather they never discover. I couldn’t stop rooting for them, not just because of how much they needed each other, but because of how much they deserved each other.

What makes this book stand apart is how Ross balances the divine and the human. The story is full of gods, myths, and battles larger than life, yet at its core it’s about something achingly real: love, survival, betrayal, trust, and the courage it takes to keep reaching for light in the middle of so much darkness. That blend of magic and humanity is what gave me chills.

By the end, I wasn’t ready to let go. I sat with the book closed on my lap for a long while, just holding it, letting it sink in. It’s not often that a story leaves me with that kind of ache — the kind that’s equal parts loss and gratitude, because it means you’ve just experienced something extraordinary.

Wild Reverence isn’t just one of the best fantasies I’ve read this year; it’s one of those rare books I know I’ll revisit again and again, each time catching something I missed the first time. It’s powerful, romantic, and unforgettable — a story that left me changed in ways I can’t fully put into words.

A very huge thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press | Saturday Books for sharing one of the year’s most anticipated novels’ digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts. I couldn’t be more grateful to have read this early.

i'm completely heartbroken and feel really lonely. i'm going to spend some time feeling sad, maybe listening to sad music. then, i'm so upset, i'll probably sleep right on the edge of my bed and just roll off at some point because i will never experience this type of love in real life.

Thank you so much to author Rebecca Ross and publisher St. Martin’s Press | Saturday Books for providing me with an ARC of Wild Reverence in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is September 2, 2025 and I can’t wait for everyone to experience this story!

4.5/5 ✨ (rounded up to 5!)

The beginning and middle had a few tiny slow spots, which is the only reason I took off half a star.

Oh, how Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows completely stole my heart earlier this year 💞 so when I saw there was a prequel, I knew I had to read it. One thing I love is that this can be read either as a prequel or as the third book. Personally, I’m so glad I read it after the first two because it gave me so much extra background and helped certain moments click but, either order works!

I don’t want to spoil too much before release day, but if you loved Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows, I can almost guarantee you’ll fall in love with this one too. The magic, the gods and goddesses, the scenes between the different realms it’s all so beautifully crafted and just ✨magical✨

The backstory is captivating, and I enjoyed learning more about Enva and Dacre especially Enva’s music. The glimpses into other gods, goddesses, and realms added so much depth. And the way the story moves between present and past? ***Chef’s kiss*** 😙 I am such a sucker for that narrative style.

Our FMC, Matilda, is brave, strong, and full of heart. Our MMC, Vincent… I adored him in every single scene. The love he holds for the people in his life, and the sacrifices he’s willing to make 😭 don’t even get me started 💚

After the Matilda and Warin forest scene when Vincent shows up? SOBBING. Their love is unstoppable and powerful, and I couldn’t get enough.

The supporting characters like Bade, Nathaniel, Enva, and some other divine surprises all added so much more to the world.

And the epilogue??? Absolute perfection. It had me gasping, holding my breath, and grinning like an idiot as we learned more about the origins of some very special typewriters 😉

Read this one, my friends. And read the entire series. These books have a permanent place on my top reads of the year list, and I truly think they’re something special 💚💛🖤

╰┈➤ guys… i am so impressed with rebecca ross right now. divine rivals and ruthless vows are my most annotated books as well as my favorite duology. this book dives into the history of how everything came to be, and oh my gosh… this was just so amazing! i’m so happy that i received this arc because this was one of my most anticipated reads of this year.

╰┈➤ what can i say about matilda besides the fact that she is just so perfect? i think her character arc is so interesting because throughout the whole book, she endured many betrayals and dangers, yet she never lost sight of herself within the pressure of the divine politics; since she is the herald of the gods. something i enjoyed was how the love between vincent, a mortal lord, and matilda slowly grew. their love story began in dreams and evolved later into their life when they reconnected due to a message matilda was set out to deliver to him. death was on their heels and they fought to avoid it together. but, death finally got matilda and she had to serve the gatekeeper the 7 years she promised. the fact that vincent waited the whole 7 years for her… i cannot describe how happy i was :) they got their happy ending🥲

₊˚ʚ ➼➻❥ 𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙩
╰┈➤ i absolutely loved the plot of this book. one of the turning points of this book was when nathaniel, vincent’s brother died, and matilda went to save him. there, she discovered that she could bring souls back as long as they didn’t let go of her. to me, this reminded me a lot of the greek myth of eurydice and orpheus. in that story, orpheus descends to the underworld to persuade hades with his music to let his wife return, with the condition that he must not look at her until they reach the surface. however, orpheus failed, causing eurydice to be pulled back into the underworld forever. and in many ways, matilda portrayed orpheus by sometimes succeeding in bringing souls back to the living if she believed they deserved it.

.𖥔 ݁ ˖ִ ࣪⚝₊ ⊹˚ Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this eArc in exchange for a review!

Wild Reverence was such a BEAUTIFUL, unforgettable read. EASILY my favorite out of the series. I connected so quickly with Matilda, Vincent, and Bade (Bade, ily) that I wish there were dozens more books about them. They’re the kind of characters that I already know I’m gonna be thinking about long after this

I’ll admit, the first half (around 55%) felt a little slow for me. The world-building and pacing took some time and was a bit confusing, and I found myself waiting for somethinggg to happen. But once everything started happening, I was completely swept away. I devoured the rest of the book today because I couldn’t stop turning pages😭. It was like everything came together at once the emotions, the TENSION, the romance, the gods, I was so hooked.

The ending left me feeling that bittersweet ache you only get from the best kind of stories: the joy of having experienced something so beautiful, mixed with the sadness of saying goodbye💔💔

I haven’t been this in love with a book since the OUABH series. I’m so excited for this to come out🖤 September 2nd 🥹🌟

This is the year of the prequels OH MY GOODNESS.
Absolutely stunning. The woman you are, Rebecca Ross.

If you loved Divine Rivals, and want to know more lore- especially to do with the gods… READ THIS.

2 stars, and no one is more disappointed than me, seeing as how this was my most anticipated book of the year.

Rebecca Ross is one of my favorite authors, so I went into Wild Reverence with pretty high expectations. Her writing is as gorgeous and lyrical as ever, and I really loved the idea of a young goddess trying to survive in this dangerous, power-hungry world. The setting was vivid, and there were moments that reminded me why I love her books so much.

But honestly… this one just didn’t click for me. The world felt too similar to Greek mythology, to the point where it started to feel a bit overdone. The romance had potential, but it didn’t have enough time to really build that tension and angst I wanted—it just felt rushed. And the plot kept bouncing from one place to another without tying things up, so it never fully pulled me in.

Still glad I read it, but it didn’t hit me the way her other books have.

I did not think I would get approved for an ARC of this but I am so happy I did! First Divine Rivals, now this? I am so lucky.

ahh happiest pub day to the most gorgeous book 🥹🤎

although this was a prequel to divine rivals, i feel like this was much more reminiscent of ‘a river enchanted’ and that is by far my favorite of rebecca’s books! her writing is unbelievably beautiful and if you’re into flowery prose this is your girl ✨

vincent and matilda were the slow burn of my dreams and my only gripe would be getting the sweetest set up of childhood friends to enemies to lovers…and then it wasn’t utilized like that 😭

thank you to netgalley and smp for the arc!!
