Too much stuffing not enough meat.

Spent way too much time on the challenge dungeons. Of course the pain may have been detailing every little thing about every little thing... By the end of the book I was skipping several pages at a time to get back to actual content.

Unsatisfying

This installment of Primal Hunter just felt like such a let down. I think I actually skipped 1/3 to 1/2 of this book by skimming because it was just so much needless word padding.

The challenge dungeons were aptly named, it was a challenge to read them!

There were a few bright spots in the book, but those mostly revolved around the other characters stories and interactions being told. Honestly the majority of interesting stuff in this book could have been condensed to maybe 100 pages.

Also not even going to touch the fact that the last challenge dungeon sounds like the author played too much Death Stranding…..

Worst book in the serie. It's just filler shit to add more and more pages to the serie. Who the fuck cares for 200 pages of the development of a imaginary student... Or why the fuck would you make an arena with 15 ranks... It seems this book was a test to see if people is devoted enough to keep reading this after 10 books. Highly disappointed after 10 books. I hope the 12 is better. Nevermore is no longer funny at this point just filler shit.

I was fairly disappointed with this book. I appreciate detail in a book, as long as it adds to the storyline and world building. This book seemed to ramble on and on about irrelevant details that add nothing to enhancing the character or world. Instead of giving insight into how the other characters were progressing, we get every little detail about random irrelevant projects. I hope book 12 can at least bring back the adventure and progression of each character.

Jake takes on some Challenges

And he does it in his own Jake way. Maybe a little bit of cheating, but who's counting? This was another fun adventure and I can't wait to see what Jake gets up to next.

One of my favorite books in the series so far just because of certain developments. Can’t wait for book 12!

Worst book in the series and unfinished

Please understand that I truly enjoy this series. It is my favorite find since becoming an adult and that was a couple decades ago.

With that said, this particular book is mostly crap in comparison to the structure of the series overall and the structure of past books in the series. If you stop and think about it, quite ironic that this book shows huge stagnation of the series when the author constantly talks about stagnation of a person's path being their downfall.

Anyway, this book is supposed to be the part of the story where Jake finally gets to do the five challenge dungeons; spoiler... Only four are written; the author couldn't even finish the concept of this book's purpose.
Most of the first half of this book involved one of the challenges dungeons and was the equivalent of attempting to binge watch the first three John Wick movies back to back (it gets old quick).

For me, the most exciting parts began at 49%, 60%, and 81% of the book. Those are the sections where you get more mental stimulation that greatly differs from the rest of the book.

By far the greatest moments (in my opinion) happen because they are conversations or reflections from characters that are not Jake in this book. Such as the conversation between Sylphie and Minaga (HILARIOUS!!!). Also the most balanced portion of the entire book which was very Jake-like was the fourth challenge dungeon, we finally get to see Jake crafting again as well as thinking very Heretical thoughts.

I hope you enjoy this book better than I did. Good Luck.

The Best Yet

The continuation of the Nevermore Dungeon is great as we get some cracking politics and, of course, some amazing upgrades as challenges are met. I'm only disappointed that the pages flew by faster than Jake travels and I have to wait ages for the next.

Out of 11 books that I had read from this series, im not really a fan of this one. Its kinda boring but i keep pushing since im already invested in this book. Jake still in nevermore and there is no progress compared to last book. Just him doing dungeon challenge. I still love his interaction with those gods though but thats it... i hope book 12 will be better.

I don’t recall if the writing has always been like this and I’m just noticing it now or if something has shifted on the author’s side, but 90% of the world building and rules being offered as an aside rather than actually written into the story has gotten incredibly annoying. Combined with the current storyline now having taken two entire books and still not being complete, with the author even acknowledging how ridiculous that is in the intro, I’m just getting a little fed up. I’m still going to keep reading, but score would be way worse if it weren’t an interesting and fun read.

Tempt me with a genre that combines a love of RPG gaming and fantasy reading? Yes please. I’ve been enjoying the LitRPG genre a lot lately; probably more than I should. This is a relatively young and largely self-published genre. Which is to say, we know that we’re in for a lack of editing. Most of us get that at this point. I go in expecting to skim through a lot of information dumping, subpar writing, grammatical errors, too much fluff and repetitive narrative to get to the good stuff. I don’t mind if the good stuff is there to be gotten. It’s been growing ever scarcer the further we progress in this series, and I’ve just lost interest.

In these latest books, I feel like I’m listening to a juvenile twitch gamer dryly narrate us all through his dungeon and challenge dungeon sessions. Battle, after battle. Puzzle after puzzle. All described in agonizing detail too drab and unimportant to care about. I skimmed at least 60% of the last two books. Truly boring stuff. Throughout the Nevermore nonsense – which is a storyline that should have been told in a handful of chapters, not a few books – this story held onto, maybe, 1/3 of what makes the series entertaining. And loosely at that. It keeps the LitRPG progression through the constant battles and trials, but along the way it loses any and all relationship building, drama, intrigue and most of the world building that had kept me semi-interested.

What we're getting is a recounting of events, not storytelling. At least for the most part. There are some brief interludes that act as a breath of fresh air from the grind, but they are too few and far between.

Through it all, our boy Jake continues to act and talk like an immature self-absorbed frat boy with a chip and a loose trigger. That, I had learned to accept. But more and more frequently, this author has his so-called gods talking just like him. And not just the Viper (I refuse to call him “Villy”). I was one more “aight” away from tossing the latest book in the garbage. It’s bad enough coming from a thirty-year-old office clerk. Now, this author has all the gods responding with “aight” too. It’s indescribably dumb. It breaks from immersion. Stop doing it! Let at least your so-called “Primordials” develop their own syntax after having lived billions of years; a syntax that is not appropriated from black ghetto culture. Please and thank you.

However, “one must remember” that if you don’t like it, this author has been very clear about where you can take your grievances. A drinking game should be created. Every time the author uses his tired “one must remember” line, the reader takes a shot. We’d all be passed out drunk within two chapters.

Must one? Must one truly remember? I think not. One needs to forget.

The author calls them gods, but let’s face it, they’re just immortal psychopaths. The lot of them. We’ve got primordial gods alive for billions, if not trillions, of years with the morality, maturity and wisdom of a sociopathic prepubescent teen. The worst of them enabling and justifying slavery, torture, genocide and all manner of soulless mayhem. Many of their shenanigans often culminate in multiple levels of omnicide... and that’s on a slow day.

It would be somewhat less off-putting if the author wasn’t trying so hard to pawn this soulless, morally bankrupt universe off as anything other than what it is; a murder romp highlighting the misadventures and rise to power of a self-absorbed, borderline sociopathic, amoral, power-hungry, creepily awkward, antisocial lout.

As much as I kept hoping otherwise, waiting for the other shoe to drop, after nearly all eleven books, I must ultimately conclude that our edgy (read: cringy) main protagonist is firmly a major apathetic part of the problem, not the heroic solution. The writing is sloppy, immature and now the story is so drab that I have completely lost interest.

I understand how it gained a following, after all I went along for the ride myself, but I have no idea how it’s managed to retain it. 2-star review on this one.

You know the author breaks convention in this book. Repeatedly it has been Hammered in Jake learns by doing especially in combat. So for him to commit to kicking instead of making his archery better by using it in combat doesn't make sense. He won't be using kicks in the future and his archery is a cornerstone of his combat. I get it is the author's way of making it more interesting while make later fights make sense but if you write yourself into a corner bsing your way out of it is a good way to frustrate the reader.

I also disagree with how Meira's thought process was written. It is possible she would be in the minority of women who wouldn't be interested in getting married to a influential husband who can make her and her's family life significantly better. I can see her not being happy how her father treated her. Same with her valuing freedom a lot now since she finally obtained it. What I don't see is her outright not loving her father. Families aren't logical. For most people even if they were treated bad they would still grieve the loss of their parents. Because they still loved them. It is unlikely she wouldn't have loved her father. Maybe in 10-20 years. But not a month to 5 years after. And it's also unlikely she would be upset about her mother's counsel of not making your husband upset or he'll seek comfort in his other woman. It's like the author forgot the story he wrote. Life's value is very low. People have tens of kids. And it's common for powerful to mid tier men to have multiple women. Meira should agree with it more now since she's been out and about in the world. If your husband was Holstred Meira would be right. But Holstred is the minority when it comes to influential figures. That advice was very true for the hegemon lord.

Something else too is the on the fly rule changes. When Jake first made the arrows able to explode mid air if the arrow entered a body he couldn't explode it anymore. And randomly later he just can.

Author forgot what he wrote. In this book Jake said Villy never advised against using the bow. But he did. Villy said it would be just be better to use magic and drop the bow. Jake then made arguments as Villy shut them all down at which point Jake just admitted he liked the bow and that it wasn't necessarily better than his magic.. Then Villy said it's best to do what you want.

I believe Jake is supposed to be a self aware hypocrite. But it is still annoying. Like how he views leaders running away from near certain death as cowards. But that is exactly what he ordered the leadership of haven to do when they got invaded. Or how he hates slavers so much he killed them all but is actively chilling with a whole organization of slavers. Even the whole temlat situation. I can't wrap my head around how you're not okay with slavers but is fine with someone killing trillions. Do you know the scale of a trillion? A million seconds is eleven days. A trillion seconds is a million and a half days. And then Jake was like what should I have done? Stopped him???? What type of garbage was that. Honestly I don't mind evil characters. You just can't have a flip flopping moral compass. On Amazon he said it was overlord meets Monster hunter then be like overlord and be unapologetic about the evil stuff going on. I shouldn't look forward to reading about side characters instead of the main one.

I thought it was a bit silly that the protagonist was so morally outraged by slavery- btw just to be clear I think slavery is bad too- yet the protagonist is obviously a failure in other moral decisions.

In the latest book he allows near genocide on a human planet. Sorry you can’t be all trendy “I am against exploiting people!” - and then be like, “Ok kill millions to get revenge if you feel it is a good idea.”

So yeah the protagonist is either self-mind-tricking-insane or just badly written to appeal to readers and not offend them. Basically the author wanted to show he and his character were down with the Woke crowd. “My character gets violently mad and almost kills a slave master who has sex with his two magic contract enslaved women!” “My character and I are against slavery!”

But then his Protagonist is saying, “I am ok with the ultimate law and the ultimate good and the ultimate justice being how You as an individual choose to react to an unfair world.” “Therefore I am going to kill an entire society!” It is even more absurd as the main character is telling the million plus human killer that, “Oh by the way you have killed millions but you should ease up on the extension of suffering for your most hated enemy because that’s wrong and you are being petty and illogical and untrue to yourself.”

If you do not get the absurdity and stupid human twisting of good evil and the laws that should govern a thoughtful person you are whacky too.

Agood comparison would be a King who makes beating children illegal for parents but who also makes it legal to rape women who can’t defend themselves. It just does not make moral human sense in regards to dignity of life and attempting to be just.

I suppose this is going to happen since in the mythology of the book the Gods are amoral too much like Greek gods who were just like petty overpowered people.

Anyways overall I didn’t skim that much - but I did skim a bit. But some fun sword and wizard fights and adventure even if it is obvious a flawed moral structure not in a flawed sense that the protagonist is too evil or not a mother Teresa - it is flawed in the sense that the protagonist morals are stupid and do not even make logical sense to some sort of abstract stoic atheist

The Rannidly Ghost hound protagonist seems even worse- wooden serious and fake though.

Ew what is this brother?

Tldr: don't buy the book, if you have Kindle unlimited it'll still overstay its welcome by the end. Beginning is great but it all falls off 50% through it. Zogarth even mentions how the nevermore arc has bored people and it's not even finished in this book.

Minor spoilerish parts follow.

I love this series but now there is going to be 3 books focused on a single big dungeon? Honestly sucks, in my opinion. Worst arc of the series by far.

This arc has become an actual slog to get through. While the first challenge dungeon is interesting because it has action and old side characters being reintroduced and expanded upon. Everything else is an actual chore to get through. I was skipping the final chapters of the book.

There are five challenge dungeons in nevermore and the challenge dungeons are all this book is focused on. We don't even get through all five!

The first and most interesting, lasts forty six chapters or so. The next two are six chapters each, these feel really phoned in. The fourth challenge dungeon lasts twenty four or so and it. Is. Pain.

I usually enjoy crafting focused parts but this made the book feel like it was worse off for this. The student part was actually interesting but everything else I honestly started skipping. That's not a good feel for a book to have.

The back half of the book honestly felt like a word quota or something, and that hurts because I keep buying the books because I actually like this story.

I have to agree with other reviewers that this book was a letdown compared to the other books.

1. At this point, we certainly do not need to read about Jake’s kicking challenge. Spending so much time on boring and uninteresting fights. Should’ve skipped directly to the boss fights, which were at least somewhat interesting.

2. It is all about Jake, Jake, Jake. I get it, he is a powerhouse, the MC, I have no doubt that he will become the most powerful god eventually and take over the system. Maybe around book 70-80? I also can’t fault author’s creativity, all the boss fights are unique and there is not much repetition. But since Jake always ends up on the top, it becomes boring. I became much more interested in the stories of the other characters. Including his friends and the various gods. And in the recent books, there are very few such stories.

3. I find it very hard to believe that all the other characters from the 93rd universe are still somehow able to keep up with Jake. His stats, titles, items, skills, the bloodline, the danger sense/intuition, his supreme race, all is so ridiculously OP that he shouldn’t really have any competition among his peers. And while the author tries to amp the other characters up as well, it is not only getting a bit cringy and they still can’t measure up. At all. Goddess GF? Heh. Good for him.

Nevertheless, I still enjoy the series very much.

Any recommendations for other series? I prefer something which is not fucused solely on one character and I also prefer less power creep.

This book was a solid 5 out of 5 for me, even if I didn't like where the book ended. My favorite progression fantasy right now.
I don’t know if it was because of time away from the series waiting for book 11, but this one seemed more light hearted and comical at points. It was refreshing and very enjoyable in a series that has seemed a bit too serious at points for me.
The thing I enjoy about these books most of all is how solidly they are progression fantasy but also based on complete freedom. Everyone has the ability to do what they want on their own path based on what they determine, and that is so refreshing. There isn’t another character telling them what to do and pushing the story along, each individual character has their own progression, and it is really enjoyable to read. It is a simple thing, but something that is never done as well as it is here.
I don’t get why some people wouldn’t like the storyline in nevermore, I find it a nice change and refreshing. I understand that every book like this has their own version of a massive dungeon characters travel to for advancement, but I think I like nevermore better than any others I’ve read…it is just that damn ending, not a fan of where it stops.
Such a fun book, and I can’t wait for the next one to come out on audible.

The Primal Hunter Book 11 by Zogarth continues to deliver the high-stakes progression fantasy that fans of the series have come to love. As Jake dives deeper into the complexities of the multiverse and its power structures, the narrative balances intense action, clever strategy, and intricate worldbuilding. Zogarth excels at escalating both the scale of conflict and the depth of character development, particularly with Jake’s evolving relationship to his own power, his allies, and the growing threat posed by entities like the Blightfather and the Holy Church. The dynamic dungeon environments and philosophical undertones around divinity and agency make this installment more thoughtful than ever.

What truly stands out in Book 11 is the way Zogarth expands on the lore of the system and introduces new Primordial forces without losing the grounded sense of progression that defines the series. The tension between factions like the Holy Church and the Risen creates a political undercurrent that enriches the usual dungeon-crawling and monster-slaying. Long-time readers will appreciate how earlier plot threads come full circle, while new mysteries are teased that promise even more explosive revelations. It’s a strong entry that proves the Primal Hunter series isn’t just maintaining momentum—it’s still climbing.

Primal Hunter 11 maintains the series' characteristic action-oriented narrative, albeit with a shift in focus. This volume diverges from the collaborative team dynamics prevalent in previous arcs, centering primarily on the protagonist, Jake. While this concentrated focus allows for deeper exploration of Jake's character, it may contribute to a perceived reduction in narrative dynamism for some readers.

The arc's progression, particularly within the Minaga labyrinth and the Architect's room, suffers from a degree of tedium. The extended sequences in these locations lack the engagement and tension that typically characterize the series. However, certain pivotal moments, such as Jake's interactions with Artemis and his confrontation with Valdemar, provide compelling highlights that mitigate the overall monotony.

Despite the aforementioned pacing issues, the volume retains sufficient merit to warrant a favorable assessment. The character development of Jake continues to be a strong point, and the impactful scenes involving Artemis and Valdemar offer significant narrative rewards. Consequently, a rating of 4 out of 5 is appropriate, reflecting the volume's strengths while acknowledging its structural weaknesses.

Spoiler alert: if it's that boring for your main character, it's quickly gonna get boring for your readers.

Oof. I've been loving this series but like many other reviewers here I thought this one dropped the ball. I actively skimmed a lot of the book, and I can't imagine how bad this one would be to listen to as an audiobook.

When I realized this book only contained Challenge Dungeons 1-4 instead of all 5, it made me worried the author has decided to make #5 an entire book unto itself, and then conclude the Nevermore arc in another book... Man, please just be done with all the Nevermore bloat. It's so hard to care about Nevermore points going up, which is the only thing this book does.

Challenge Dungeon #1 is a reset where Jake loses all abilities and starts from zero all over again? Listen, it was fun the first time but I really don't need to keep reading more stat resets. For 15 chapters all the main character talks about is how boring it is to slog through the grind while he slowly climbs back towards a worthy opponent. Apparently Jake was working on a new skill to put me to sleep.

While I love the series and 100% plan on getting the sequal on the 25th. The time scale of this series is all over the place lol. Alot of stuff is skipped over, while others are extremely extended. 40 years passed with a few chapter then 2 years over an entire book. I also hate that even though the point of the book was the challenge dungeons it literally ends when he enters the final one. Like wtf.... still a fun book. However the feeling the series gives me is it's either going to a have a tragic end, orrrr it'll have 50 seperate books before getting to the end. It's scope just isn't being covered fast enough and it really feels like it's going to get to a point where the author no longer knows what to do with all the plot points and just gives up. If they pull it off it'll be epic. But that would be something that is going to take well over a decade to actually realize.

Overall great book and series. But his books need to get longer, or cover more through other means. Otherwise I feel like it's gonna crumble due to its own ambition much like it's main character the author seems to want to chase an endless horizon.

Zogarth once again writes a high octane story that we've come to expect from them! And again we find ourselves in Nevermore the multi level dungeon. Are we tired of this dungeon dive? That would be a Firm NO! Each floor is just so unique and fun. In this case our intrepid teams are going to take on the five Challenge floors and each, are dungeons in their own right. But the catch is that these challenges hafta be completed individually! So while we mostly focused on Jake, but Zogarth keeps their fingers on the pulse of all the happenings, of the other characters, both in and out of the dungeon! So yeah even though Sylphie, one of my favorite characters wasn't actively participating in this one... I know that she's doin great! And yeah Jake was only able to finish 4 of the challenges, but I know he'll soon manage to finish the final challenge in time to meet up with his friends and finish climbing the finale floors and possibly be top contenders on the leader board. So onto the next book and the next challenge The Neverending Journey!

Here's a quote that made me laugh out loud:

No, better than humanly possible. Jakely possible!

I recommend the series

The book was very well written although I may be going crazy as it appeared to me that there was an over abundance of close quotation marks in place of open quotation marks. I do try and separate the quality of the work from my personal preferences. That said I love 20% of the book and felt that the rest of it was just okay. If you were one of the ones in the camp hoping that this book would see the end of Nevermore then I'm afraid I have to disappoint you or more accurately the author has. Our main character finishes up the rest of the floors and then starts the individual challenges which consists of 5 in total. By the end of the book we have just finished with the fourth challenge and from the sound of it I would not be surprised if the final challenge takes up at least half of the next book or possibly more. That 20% that I mentioned were little bright spots here and there that mostly involved supporting character interactions. In my opinion it broke up some of the monotony.

Every time I read one of these books, I figure midway through that *this* will be the one where my rating drops low enough that I won't buy the next in the series (which by my personal scale would be 4 stars) and instead look to see if my library carries it. Each time, however, I do end up springing for the next. (It certainly doesn't hurt that these are cheap books for the size, thus it ekes out a soft 3.5 star rating.)

The plot is generally what pulls this economic calculation through. I am still invested enough in the series to want to see where it goes from here. In this particular volume, all the cast of supporting characters from previous books largely appear as cameo roles (if that) which does hurt the overall dynamic of this one, which really is a "filler" book more than anything that really drives either the overall plot or character arc, but it remains a "fun" read nonetheless.

Honestly, I liked the book generally and truly love the saga (the latter being the only reason I don't go for 3 stars) but I feel cheated to the really low progression of the story, with the preface of the book making a joke of how Nevermore is taking longer than what Zogarth originally thought, I figured that it meant this book would conclude the World Wonder, it didn't and that is not necessarily bad but I felt that the way it was done not great. It was waaay too much filler in between specially in the coliseum of mortals, like I get the beginning like the first few battles but it was too much considering how most of them were pretty much nameless, more than half of the book was spent there.
I think the book would have been way better if the coliseum was halved and the last instance dungeon was completed, maybe add a bit here and there to show the future implications of how that would affect the next book or something.

I really liked this book—and the series as a whole—a lot. However, my one complaint is the overuse of the word *naturally*. This has been an issue throughout the entire series, and this book continues the tradition.
Maybe it’s just me, but I read this book quite a while after the last one, and I had honestly forgotten about it. Then, as I kept reading, it started bugging me again, and I remembered: "Oh, it’s *this* series, yes, naturally." It ’s not just that the word is used frequently; it’s also how it’s used. For instance: *"Someone walked into the room; it was, naturally, ‘someone.’"* That’s such a weird way to phrase it! It pulls me out of the story a bit, but overall, it’s an almost insignificant detail—I just found it peculiar.

Despite this minor annoyance, I absolutely loved the book.

loved it!

see this is why i love these books! you don't try to rush the story but just let everything in your universe build on itself! your creativity in this universe is top tier, and willingness to continue fleshing out ideas of the universe as a whole while still showing the mc's growth makes me turn each page looking forward to what i'll learn next! thank you for a truly wonderful story! i hope you don't rush his life to god-hood in any way and even continue the story after he can crack a beer with villy that was brewed by vald himself that can make lesser gods die of alcohol poisoning! 🤣 i love your books and hope to read over 50 in this series alone! who knows you might even consider writing about his kids with a few of these other characters down the line with "uncle villy" and "cousin sylphy"
