Barely surviving a disastrous night of steaks and cocktails with his estranged father, George McCloud awakens to a world in chaos. A devastating sickness has rocked the foundations of civilization, destroyed the economy and overwhelmed the authorities. George flees to the supposed safety of his quiet suburban home to ride out the storm of looters and craziness but the worst is yet to come. From a front row seat on his porch, George witnesses unthinkable carnage as the dead rise to consume the living. Faced with starvation and bitter isolation, he ventures out into an undead world in search of food and survivors. George soon discovers there is something very different about himself and finding other people isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. On the run from his growing list of enemies, he is horrified to find he may be the key to unraveling the mystery of the zombie pandemic. In spite of a series of soul-crushing circumstances, George is determined to do whatever it takes to find the answers and save the ones he loves.
Joseph K. Richard was born and raised in the mysterious city of Fridley, Minnesota where the water is sweet and the people don't see the sun often enough. He has always been weird but mostly in his own head.
Running with the Horde is his first novel. The first of many he hopes but life and circumstance are possibly conspiring against him.
He will either prevail or he won't, time will tell. Tonight he just doesn't give a damn.
I decided to try this book based on it's summary. I am so glad that I gave it that chance. I was surprised at how invested I became in the story and characters. There are some places where I wished there was more detail, but not many. I am looking forward to continuing this series. I love how there is a reality that you can picture as you read. The aspect of human nature always surprises me because you never know which way the characters will go. Next book now.
This is a rather different zombie story. A young man walked up from a coma to find the world suffering from an incurable illness. Then the dead start getting back up. Follow George as he tries to survive in this new world. I'm going to grab book 2 right away.
This is the first self published title I have read via Amazon and it will be hard to top this book. Great characters, great plot, solid storytelling all the way around. I was thoroughly impressed!
This was awesome, the end of the world. As we know it. We do not know how /it started, just a guess. Different take on zombies. Worth the read, entertaining.
In a zombie apocalypse. I really enjoyed reading this. While there are some errors throughout the story, it isn't to bad. I look forward to more and recommend this book.
There are space operas and soap operas, but this is the first zombie opera that I've ever read. I was very entertained by most of the shenanigans going on. It did get a bit much toward the end, but for the most part, it was both horrifying and amusing.
The main character is George, an ordinary guy who wakes up from a coma - a condition that his father may be responsible for. George wakes up just in time to watch the world end in a zombie apocalypse. He soon finds out that he has some kind of weird connection to the zombies.
While out scavenging, George witnesses a group of people doing something pretty awful, and decides to get involved. That's when things get really weird. And poor George finds himself turned into a pawn in a game he doesn't understand.
If you're looking for something fresh and different in the zombie genre, this is the book for you. Some of the characters are flat out crazy, but George keeps the story grounded.
I've already bought the second book, so definitely continuing the series.
I received this book from goodreads giveaways and am writing an honest review based on my thoughts and opinions.
I have read many zombie books over the years but this is definitely my favorite. It is entertaining and horrific all at the same time. I loved it and wish I could give it more than five stars. Although I finished reading it I still have a few questions and want to read more. I can't wait to read more by this author and highly recommend it to everyone.
Seriously, this is the best zombie book I've read. And I've read more than a few. Completely original storyline, a hero you can root for and bad guys you hate so much you can taste it. George is just some schmuck who wakes up and discovers he's not the same guy he was two months ago. Oh, and the world ended as he knew it.
The editing is horrible but I got past that easily because the book is a really fun read. I almost couldn't put it down when I was supposed to. And now that I've finished it I'm ready for more. But there is no more... yet.
The plot got a little bizarre, but not enough so that I wouldn't read the next book in the series. The editing left a whole bunch to be desired. I got a kick out of the amended suburb names.
