A brother’s best friend, enemies-to-lovers, hockey romance by Amazon Top 50 and USA Today bestselling author, S.J. Sylvis.

I never would have moved to Chicago, if I had known he would be there.

Moving to a brand new city to share an apartment with my older brother was bad enough.

Becoming neighbors with Kane Barlow, my brother’s arrogant pro-hockey-playing best friend, was just the cherry on top of the dumpster fire my life has become.

Did I mention that Kane is also the guy I had a secret fling with years ago?

I haven't seen him since and let’s just say his icy glares and frigid demeanor are reason enough for me to get my own place.

Little does he know, I’m in Chicago for a reason that has nothing to do with him. So what if his snide remarks and attempts to get under my skin are wildly entertaining? I came here for stability – not distractions, and definitely not the kind with infuriating smirks.

But the more we clash, the more the tension between us shifts. His icy glares turn into heated glances, and our aversion to being around each other quickly morphs into secret trysts and spicy moments we swore we didn't want.

The line between love and hate is razor-thin – and this time, we’re both rushing towards the edge.

Kane Barlow spent six years moving on. He achieved his goal of going pro when he signed with the Blue Devils. His life looks like a dream come true. Yet when he comes face-to-face with Daisy Sullivan in the elevator of his building, it’s like being doused with a bucket of ice water.

I do love a forbidden love and these two were so lovable. Daisy was sassy and vulnerable, courageous and loyal. Our man Kane was sexy and sweet, the ultimate cinnamon roll. I would have liked to see their romance in the open a little sooner. But that’s a personal preference and I accept that it sometimes just takes a while with a forbidden storyline.

And can I just say that I can’t wait to get to know Reese and Malaki?! I’m not typically into a single parent trope, but she had me as soon as Daisy opened the car door.

RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Kane and Daisy were everything. I don’t know how SJ keeps topping the book before but she absolutely does and I loved every single second of this book. And the banter. The banter was some of the best ever read and I was literally clutching my sides and squealing at these two.

Possessive hero… CHECK! Kane Barlow has you covered!

✨ Hockey Romance
✨ Enemies to Lovers
✨ Second Chance
✨ Brothers Best Friend
✨ Workplace Romance
✨ Chronic Illness Rep

daisy and Kane were everything I needed. These two “hating” each other while very badly fighting their feelings was something I absolutely loved. Plus, the entire thing where he gets her a job as the real mascot and it backfired spectacularly on him, made me giddy. This was second chance vibes and banter both done perfectly!

KANE is my new favorite and at this point I really should not be surprised that every man I read by SJ I fall in love with harder than the last.

Daisy was also an amazing FMC and as a fellow chronic illness girlie, I really loved her story, her strength and her resilience.

This team also just makes me smile! I love a good underdog and the Chicago Blue Devils are my favorites! I never want to leave this world!

I am convinced that SJ Sylvis can NOT write a bad book. Every time I pick up one of her books, it is a guaranted BANGER for me and Rush the Edge was no exception. Our queen of angsty slow burns did it again! So who is ready to fall head over heels in love with Kane Barlow?

If you have read the first two books in this interconnected series then you are aware of who Kane is. He is the problem child on and off the ice. His teammates always need to reel him in. So of course, there is a back story that goes along with that. One of those reasons being Daisy Sullivan, his best friend's little sister, the one who got away and his new neighbor. But this reunion isn't one that was a happy one because these two left things on rocky ground and haven't seen each other in 6 years. So to say they loathe each other is an understatement. But their hatred for one another sparked them to spar with one another. The games they played with one another was so fun!

One of the main pranks that plays a major role into the plot is Kane setting up a job opportunity for Daisy as the new mascot for his hockey team the Chicago Blue Devils. But in true Daisy fashion, she takes that opportunity to torment Kane instead. Which of course, leads to tension that bubbles over in the most delicious way. Let's just say these two are a HUGE fans of very public displays of lust 👀 and I loved every moment of it!

Sammi, thank you for delivering another BANGER! I can't wait for the next one!

You should most definitely read this book if you like:
- Hockey Romance
- Brother's Best Friend
- Second Chance-ish
- Enemies to Lovers
- Hate to Love
- Neighbors to Lovers
- Workplace Romance
- Close Proximity
- Secret Relationship
- Chronic Illness Rep

* I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to SJ Sylvis for allowing me the pleasure and opportunity to read Rush The Edge as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review.

“The devastation I felt the day she turned me away sent me to the edge of insanity. Then she came back, and now I’m on edge whenever we’re not together.”

I was waiting for Kane’s book and I ate up all the banter, tension, and angst! Throw in brother’s best friend make me love it even more.

Kane and Daisy had a secret fling in high school. Kane left with a broken heart. Six years later Daisy moves to Chicago to stay with her brother. Unbeknownst to her Kane lives there as well. He actually lives in the same building. Kane is like a problem child. He’s still salty with Daisy after all this time. So what does he do? He wants to make her life miserable, so he plays pranks on her. The tension between builds until they just give in to the real feelings they have for each other. This reunion was inevitable.

We always love when the bad boy breaks and Sammi did a great job at it. Give me all the angst and I gobble it all up. The spice…. Kane and Daisy get very dirty. Let’s see what Sammi has up next for us.

Tropes: hockey, brother’s best friend, second chance-ish, enemies to lovers, hate to love, neighbors to lovers, workplace, close proximity, secret relationship, chronic illness.

THANK YOU SAMMI FOR THE ARC!

These two MC “adults” were immature asf. (Spoilers ahead)
The immaturity last through 90% of the book. For the first half, the H bullies and the h always retaliates. Ngl, H was a major d-bag. Why? Because he was mad at h for turning him down when they were 18 and basically telling him not to give up his dreams for her. 🤷‍♀️

H was a big old manw*ore during their years apart. Like…. For most of the book, it’s always explaining how he was hooking up with women.
Even AFTER he has an intimate moment (oral) with h, he’s at a bar kissing another woman. I really got tired of hearing how much of a playboy he was or reading his POV about being one.

H is a major hockey player who is BROKE asf. He keeps paying off his brother’s gambling debts. 🤪 I guess anybody who has a relative that’s addicted to something, knows how easy it is to enable.

h has lupus. It takes at least half way in before H finds out. Most of her issues in the book are dealing with lupus. Idk much about lupus so I can’t speak on how accurate the descriptions were.

They literally both spend 90% of the book arguing. The spice doesn’t even happen until over 70% in…..and it’s always in strange places. These two don’t know how to take it home, nope they are humping each other in inappropriate places. Charity ball- storage room. Job- office. Bar- dirty hallway. Ice rink- fingering her with the fans just inches away from seeing them 🤪🤪🙃

I won’t say it’s a bad book because it’s not. The arguing got repetitive and annoying. The last 10% of the book was good even if it was rushed a little.

I like this series! I don't recall getting any hints that these two would be the MCs for this one from the last book which is fine. I enjoyed their story a LOT! These two were toeing a FINE line between loathe and love for the marjotiy of this book. I liked how they needled at each other. They both liked getting a rise out of the other but also didn't want to acknowledge that internally. Kane had the whole touch her and die vibe down by like 10% haha. I loved that this was KIND of a second chance. Daisy is Kane's best friend's little sister. They crushed on each other in secret back when they were younger and after one night of passion Kane leaves at Daisy behest. I appreciated how these two slowly started peeling off their armor for each other. The loathing was there due to a misunderstanding. Kane didn't want to let anyone near his heart again because of Daisy. When he realized what she had done for him, it was touching. I also loved that our neandrathal of a hockey player had a true heart of gold. If you were in his inner circle, you were protected. I loved when he took care of Daisy and when he found out the illness she was struggling with- all pretenses were lost. These two were HOT together- their chemistry was on fire!

Daisy has found herself moving to Chicago to help get a better handle on her recent diagnosis. She is going to be living with her brother though for a minute which should help. What she doesn't expect though is Kane Barlow. The man who gave her everything she wanted back in high school the day before he had to leave to chase his dreams. The man she pushed away to help him. The man who can't stand her. How is this her luck? And now Kane has gotten her a job interview. One he clearly thinks she will walk away from- the mascot for his hockey team. Well if he thinks that of her, he doesn't remember her clearly. She NEVER backs down from a challenge. Which is how she finds herself around Kane all the time. There is this energy between them- she likes poking the bear and seeing how he will respond. She likes seeing that flare in his eyes. But then her lups kicks in and she finds herself being taken care of Kane. She gets to see another side of him. The side she remembered in high school which is when she realizes his attitude is all a facade. He is still the protector with a heart of gold on the inside. Now Daisy can't seem to stop thinking about Kane and all that they could be. What they experience together goes beyond what she has experienced before. The passion. The connection. She just has to decide if what they have is worth going to her brother for. Because he has made it clear that he would not approve of her and Kane in any world. But he doesn't know the Kane she does- so she will just have to show him what Kane means to her.

Kane has moved on from Daisy and that hurt he felt. He has never let another woman that close to him. Never given a woman the chance to hurt him again. But then Daisy is back and his neighbor. She somehow looks prettier than before. And he recognizes that she has become a woman in the time that has past since he last saw her. He knows he shouldn't poke at her but he can't help it. So he gets a job that should make her run to the hills. Send her away from him. But she digs her heels in and commits. She makes the mascot a role model for young girls. She makes the guys on his team get gushy. It seems that every man in her vicinity is drawn to her orbit. Well Kane isn't there...YET. He is fighting this thing between them because he knows how it will end. But then he gets the truth on why she let him down all those years ago and the truth on why she is here now. And his whole perspective changes. Daisy did all of that for HIM. For HIS future. She is going through this now and he would have never known if she hadn't had an episode. She is so strong and brave. He can't fight it anymore. He has to claim her and make it clear to everyone including her that she is HIS and he is HERS. He doesn't care what her brother thinks. He wants the whole world to know how he feels. He just hopes she is ready to admit her feelings too.

The chemistry and banter in this one was top notch! These two once they gave in could NOT keep their hands off of each other. I loved the way that Daisy's illness was part of the plot her. She didn't let it take over her whole life. She was so strong working through it all. I LOVED when Kane took care of her- ridiculously swoony. I also loved when he was warning all of the men to stay away from her. I loved the side characters and am looking forward to Malaki and Reese- I am thinking they are the next book! I definitely recommend this book for some fun pranks and edge of your seat question on WHEN are they going to give into this thing between them.

✨️ Thank you to SJ Sylvis and VPR for this ARC for my honest review! Every single book in this series has been AMAZING! I don't know what kind of drug SJ puts in these, but I am OBSESSED with them all! The tension and banter between Kane and Daisy had me giggling and kicking my feet! 🤭🤭 I loved the character growth that they both go through as their relationship grows. Kane taking care of Daisy when she's sick were some of my favorite parts 🥹🥹. He seemed like such an ass in the beginning, but he was just putting up a front to protect his heart. I love that we glimpses of the couples from the previous books in the series, and I can't wait for the next book because we get glimpses of who it's going to be. I'm so pumped!! I definitely recommend this book and this whole series to all my friends, whether you're into sports romances or not!

I loved the ARC of this book but I'm obsessed with the ALC! Daisy and Kane share a complicated past, a secret fling that ended badly and sent them down separate paths. Years later, fate brings them back together when Daisy moves in with her brother and unexpectedly becomes Kane’s neighbor. What follows is a whirlwind of witty banter, unresolved tension, and undeniable chemistry. Though they try to resist their lingering feelings, the pull between them is too strong to ignore. As they confront the obstacles that once tore them apart, they must decide if a second chance is truly meant to be.

The narration is perfection, Aiden Snow and Lily Drake bring Kane and Daisy to life with palpable chemistry and raw emotion. Their performance adds an extra spark. This entire series is a must listen!

Thank you, S.J. Sylvis for the ALC.

Rush The Edge by SJ Sylvis
4/5⭐
3/5🌶️

I had such a wonderful time reading this book! The enemies-to-lovers vibe between the main characters is captivating. Their chemistry and tension are through the roof! I found their playful banter and the way they challenge each other to be entertaining.

Kane and Daisy have known each other since they were kids. There’s always been a spark between them, but since Daisy is Kane's best friend's little sister, she’s been off-limits—until one night changes everything. When Kane hopes to take their relationship further, Daisy pushes him away, leading him to pursue his dream of being a pro hockey player. Fast forward a few years, and Daisy is moving in with her brother, not realizing that Kane lives in the same building! Despite avoiding each other all this time, they can’t escape their feelings. Their attraction is still alive, and it’s so exciting to see how it all unfolds.

Daisy is such a strong and independent woman. Dealing with lupus, she's moved to Chicago for a specialist to control her condition. I loved her determination and resilience. She knows just how to get under Kane's skin! Kane is a famous hockey player with a temper; he's used to getting what he wants, but there's something about Daisy that makes him struggle to stay away, even when he tries to push her out of his life.

What I enjoyed was how they constantly challenged each other. Their playful games and teasing only add to the sizzling tension. But beyond that, you can see their emotional connection deepen as they genuinely care and want to protect one another. There are touching moments when Kane can't help but worry about Daisy and feels the urge to care for her, even when he tries to act indifferent.

This was such an enjoyable read! I found myself laughing out loud at times, and the steamy scenes were a highlight. The tension is amazing, and how they care for each other warmed my heart.

I started this book and could NOT put it down. Like sleep, who? I was obsessed--hook, line, and sinker. I was a goner for Kane and Daisy.

SJ absolutely blew this one out of the park and to say that just a few months ago, I had discovered this series for the first time and became addicted to these books and her writing, to say the least, is mind blowing to me. Like where have I been? I wish I would have discovered this author sooner because her books are captivating, funny as hell, quirky and full of some of the best damn banter I've ever read in a book before, oh and so damn hot, like the spice? Baby, it was spicing!

This book delivered the perfect enemies to lovers, hate to love vibes I have ever read before. I was so freaking feral, and feeling it all throughout my read of this book. Like I felt all the feels, I was laughing my ass off, smiling to myself, angry one second to the next feeling for these characters.

This was one of the best book experiences I have ever had, I loved everything about it. The enemies to lovers was hitting and the tension, banter, and spice had a girl on the edge of her damn seat.

So, yeah in conclusion, this book was absolutely infinity stars and then some! No notes, no arguments, and absolutely no criticism, and I will never forget this book!!

The Chicago Devils continue! This is one of my favorite hockey romance series and Rush the Edge was just as good. There’s something about the way that S.J. Sylvis writes hockey romance that makes me SWOON! Relatable FMC? Check. Possessive MMC? Check. A game of strip hockey? CHECK. This is everything I’m looking for in a hockey romance and you need to add it to your TBR!

Read this if you’re in the mood for….
- hockey romance
- brother’s best friend
- second chance
- secret relationship
- “it was always you”
- protective and possessive MMC
- chronic illness rep

Oh, I loved this book. The way I was itching for them to just get back together. Clearly they are so perfect each other because who else is so stubborn and so in love? It was a SLOW BURN but so worth it and it made sense with the story. Every time they tried to make each other jealous made my eye twitch lol

Here are a few of my favorite things…
- strip hockey is my new favorite trope
- every single time he smirks
- he is so growly and possessive and I live for it
- she really loved him the whole time and he had no idea and it broke me a little that she was doing all that and he thought it was over
- River taking his blood pressure had me on the floor LOL
- the glimpse into the next couple!!!! So excited for them

I will definitely be recommending!!

DEVOURED WITHIN 24 HOURS!

- Hockey Romance
- Neighbours
- Second Chance
- Enemies to Lovers
- Banter / Angst
- Brothers Best Friend
- Forbidden / Secret Relationship
- 6 year time jump

Daisy has always crushed on her brother's best friend; Kane. And as she grows into a teenager, that crush becomes real. The love of friendship, turns into real love. Until 17YO Daisy pushes Kane to follow his dream of becoming a pro hockey player and leaving their small town behind, including her. Kane is hurt Daisy is pushing him away, but he goes on to become one of the best in the league, & never returning home.

6 Years later and Daisy is moving to Chicago to live with her brother after some saddening health news, to make her closer to the local hospital. Not realising, her brother now lives in a high rise building with her first love; Kane as her next door neighbour. And even better? Her brother asked Kane to help her find a job. And this is how Daisy finds herself the new mascot for the Blue Devils.

Kane at first just teases Daisy. He knows he has to play nice for the sake of his friendship with her brother, but he is still hurt she pushed him away so easily. At first, Daisy also doesn't want anything to do with Kane & his grumpy attitude. Until Daisy sees the Kane she fell in love with, is still there. Until Kane realises his love for Daisy never truly left.

As their old friendship slowly comes back including how well they know & need each other, they tempt fate & go against Daisy's brother wishes of having a relationship. But when you are talking about epic love, you can't hide that love. And when Daisy's brother finds out mixed with Kane's past coming to get him, it may blow up in a way neither of them want.

5/5 stars with 3/5 steam.

Sam also did such a good job in writing about a sickness. I felt for Daisy and her challenges, in which Sam described perfectly the anxiety that comes along with Lupus.
Along with the above, the growth of both characters was written so well. They both had some growing to do and they both leant on each other in bringing out the best growth they could from one another. One of my favourite books by Sam yet.

The Chicago Blue Devils are back with a brand new Little Devil being added to the team 😈 Daisy is moving to Chicago closer to a specialist to help get her Lupus under control. Little does she know, her brother's best friend lives in the same building and she definitely wouldn't have moved if she knew that! They have a past, ya know? Kane took her virginity years ago, but when she turned him down afterward he never got over it! Instead, a grudge has been held and what better way to get revenge than making Daisy the new mascot for his professional hockey team 😂 Trust me, Daisy isn't one to back down from a challenge!!

Yet another banger of a book in this series! A true hate to lovers, second chance romance with all the tensionnn 🥵 Kane loves Daisy from the very first page, there's no denying that - I was so ready for them to finally be on the ✨same✨ page! Honestly, if this book taught me one thing, it was who needs a bedroom to have s3x?! Nahhh, that's way too boring 🤭

Brother’s best friend, hockey romance. Daisy and Kane grew up together since Kane was best friends with her brother River. They later meet when Daisy moves to Chicago to live with her brother and be close to the doctor she needs for her Lupus. The tension between Daisy and Kane is still there years later.

Daisy has moved in with her brother in Chicago due to her heath & guess who just so happens to be her new neighbor? Her brother’s best friend, NHL star, and the man who took her heart & her V card… Kane.

This book was full of top tier banter & I just had the best time!

Kane and Daisy: Rush the Edge is another home run from an author who never misses. One of the things I love most about her books is how she weaves in characters from previous stories, allowing us to see them grow and evolve like they're part of an ongoing series—or even seasons of a show.

Kane’s story takes us on a different kind of journey. I had no idea about his childhood, and getting those small glimpses into his past added so much depth. He’s always been the strong, stoic onethe guy who carries the weight and takes the fall for others. But Daisy, his best friend's little sister, has always been the light in his life. She’s also been carrying her own secret, something she held back to protect him.

Their reunion is filled with hilarious banter and awkward-but-funny moments, especially with other characters dropping in and adding to the chaos. The author nails that balance of humor, emotion, and romance so well.

I absolutely love how the progression of each book mirrors the growth of each character. It's not just another story; it's a continuation of a world I care about. My hockey romance heart is full. I love this author, I love her writing style, and I love how she connects with her readers through her characters. This is definitely a story you'll want to read.

Rush the Edge by SJ Sylvis eARC Review 💙🏒

I officially have a new favorite of the series. I ate this book up. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. I seriously loved this book so much. The banter was so dang good. The way I love a broken boy and Kane is just that.

Childhood friends, to lovers, to enemies to lovers is my absolute FAVORITE. This was emotional, all consuming, and I was so invested in their story from the very beginning.

Daisy and Kane forever have my heart. Their love for each other is everything. The way he cares for her and learns about her illness, seriously… swoon.

This entire series is incredible but this one just really blew me out of the water. SJ Sylvis, your writing is completely captivating and I was truly blown away by this book!

What to expect:
💙Hockey romance
💙Brothers best friend
💙Neighbors
💙Enemies to lovers
💙Hate to love
💙Workplace romance
💙He calls her little devil

This has all my favorite tropes 😍

× second chance 💕
× brother's best friend
× forced proximity
× hockey 🏒
× touch her & die 💀
× forbidden love

Kane and Daisy were such a good match.

There's an autoimmune rep (Lupus)
and it definitely brought out Kane's sweet side.

the way these two taunted each other, really added to the tension flowing off them.

The slow burn was killing me, but it was worth the wait ...

Sj killed it, as always.

I am living for her hockey worlds! Every character brings something different, but they all draw you in just the same.

this guy is fucking garbage. and she’s giving doormat heroine who continues to put herself in his orbit just to “prove a point” and continuously let him talk down on her and remind her every conversation that he took her virginity or that he’s been screwing hundreds of women since they last saw each other (we’re told it’s literally a pre game ritual… okay stud?). he took her to a strip club for lunch (?) when they meet each other again just to make her uncomfortable (her brother was also there and laughs about it?) and this guy is busying himself looking at the strippers? he’s still GETTING WITH other women after she’s back in his life? ntm the whole reason he’s being the biggest asshole to her is ridiculous she literally did nothing wrong.

the first two books of this series were actually solid i’m so annoyed i know i’ll completely hate this one. tapping out at 36%.

Rush the Edge
By: Sj Sylvis
10/10 stars
3 spice

I’m coming here to shout it to anyone who listens or will read my reviews. SJ Sylvis’s books just keep getting better and better. I have said it since I started reading her stuff… she writes the perfect amount of everything in her books- with leaving you wanting so much more of everything.

Kane & Daisy have a heck of a history. Not only is he her brother’s best-friend but, she is the girl that makes him want to risk everything for her. When he finds out she is moving in with her brother, he knows he is in for it. He has to keep pushing her away, and making sure he doesn’t show his true cards.. because even if Daisy thinks he hates her, deep down- he knows it’s the complete opposite.

It’s built into their DNA… to pick and one another until they both break. Daisy can’t back down from Kane so when she is living above him and he goes from being mean and hateful, to sweet and caring.. she knows she has to guard her heart.

them being together is ultimately inevitable. they can't stay away from each other, and soon they dont want to.

At the end of it all- the main point is SJ WRITES THE BEST DANG BOOKS AND BUILDS UP THE TENSION LIKE NOBODY ELSE. I would sell my soul to read her books for the first time again.

another SJ banger.

I swear this series just gets better with every book. I straight up devoured this book in less than 24 hours.

Kane and Daisy were everything. THE BANTER. This is some of the best banter I ever read and I was literally clutching my sides and squealing at these two.
I felt for Daisy so much with her chronic illness. She was so relatable in so many ways
KANE!! IDK how she will top him. I am literally obsessed with him. He is so protective of Daisy and the jealously with him had me grinning like a fool.

Welcome back to Chicago for more of the Blue Devils!

Things I liked:
- I was happy to return to the Blue Devils universe. I've enjoyed the first two books of the series and it's always nice coming back to a series to see those you've grown to love already.
- The nicknames Kane had for Daisy just made me happy. Daisy Petal and Little Devil. I mean, come on. How freakin' cute are they? I'm a sucker for a good nickname.
- I love the introduction of Reese. As soon as Daisy got into her Uber, I thought to myself, "We just met a future FMC. Can't wait to see who she ends up with." My initial reaction was Lars but I'm happy to see it's Malaki. I'm looking forward to getting to know him better after the teases we got of him in this book. I can't wait to read that single mom storyline.

Things I disliked or missed the mark:
- Honestly? I didn't love Kane or Daisy. I admire how they are both unfailingly willing to rise to a challenge. It was great...at first. It helped build the tension between the two of them early leaving you wanting more. Then it just became repetitive because they were constantly challenging each other in fairly juvenile ways just to annoy the other. I mean, we're still worrying about other people up until almost 80% of the way through the book. And not in a truly worrisome way (i.e. not considering cheating or anything nefarious). They're just using the other people as pawns to make each other jealous or annoy the other. It just got old as the book went on and made the beginning feel repetitive and long.
- Once again, it's a rush to the finish line. This book isn't short by any means but the beginning is so unnecessarily long and then the end, when you're finally getting to the good stuff, we fly through it all "wham bam thank you ma'am" and suddenly, it's over. Like, really, blink and you'll miss it. I would have a liked a little more attention to the pacing to cut some of the repetitive length I previously referenced at the beginning and have spent a little more time fleshing out the conclusion to the various story lines a little more satisfactorily.

While this wasn't my favorite Blue Devils installment, I'll certainly be coming back to check out Malaki and Reese's story. I need more of little Charleigh in my life!

the enemies stayed enemies and not in the fun way

Not enemies to lovers they are just enemies who have sex. All of the relationship development happened when they were growing up which we get no real glimpse of outside of random sentences here and there. They act so immature and petty with each other and not in a sassy fun banter way but a he talks about wanting to trip her when she’s just walking by and is still making her jealous with other girls 85% of the way through the book. Then they make hiding it from her brother a big deal the whole book but the reveal was so uneventful. The prose was fine and the chronic illness rep was good, but the plot was so poorly constructed and had me rolling my eyes so many times because they are so dysfunctional and would never last as a couple they just have sexual tension. I had to force myself to finish this book and strongly do not recommend

I absolutely adore Daisy and Kane! What I love most is how neither of them will back down from a challenge and they are determined to get the best of each other. The banter is hilarious and I love how she transforms every situation Kane puts her in to annoy him even more! This tension makes it so freaking perfect when they can't fight the chemistry and I ate this book up!

𝐴𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑜𝑏𝑜𝑜𝑘:
Narrated in dual by Aiden Snow and Lilly Drake- they both did a wonderful job at narrating this book! I loved getting to listen to Kane & Daisy's story with this audiobook and the narration brought them to life so beautifully!  The tension between them came across so well in this audio and I loved it!

Daisy and Kane have known each other for their entire lives, so when they finally come together as teenagers and then Daisy pushes him away, forcing him to leave for the junior league, their relationship is never the same. Never healing from Daisy, Kane becomes a brute and is known for doing what he wants without consideration for others. So when she moves to Chicago and is suddenly living in his building after she broke his heart years ago, he's determined to make it known that she isn't going to find an ally in him.
Daisy was living her life as best as she could considering a couple years prior, she was diagnosed with Lupus. But when her disease progresses quicker than they'd like, Daisy drops out of college to move to Chicago so she can live with her brother and see a specialist to get her disease under control. She doesn't realize that Kane is living in the same building as they are, and having to add the awkward tension and stress of Kane back in her orbit is not ideal.
These two are the epitome of enemies-to-lovers, constantly attempting to outsmart the other and make each other miserable until one of them caves, but their chemistry is too strong for them to resist, and their hate turns into lust and opens them up to the love that was always there to begin with. They've secretly never stopped loving each other, making moves throughout the years that always supported them vs tearing them down. They hate so fiercely because their love is just as fierce. And once they let down their guards and allow their love to consume them, its unbreakable. They face their pain together, from tackling her Lupus to tackling his family issues, they support each other through it all.
Aiden Snow and Lilly Drake were phenomenal on this title. I've never listened to Lilly before and I love discovering new narrators, especially one as talented as Lilly. I can't wait for another go at her work. Aiden is a staple in this community and it's for this reason. He's an incredible performer and I know it'll always be a win when he's on the title.

"If you're off-limits to me, you're off-limits to everyone."

Oof, is it just me or is the room getting hotter? Never in a million years would I expect Kane to act in true caveman fashion when it came to Daisy, like all possessive, overjealous, and overprotective of her. It was kind of endearing--though I had to admit at some point, his obsession with her was a teeny tiny little bit too suffocating--to see him go out of his way just to make sure he had Daisy all to himself. *chuckling*

Another feature of the book I really appreciated was Daisy's Lupus rep. Needless to say, S.J.'s writing had evolved into something more profound and thought-provoking over the years, and I absolutely enjoyed her stories when she shed light on people with actual flaws, mental health issues, or in this case, a shoutout to those who suffered from autoimmune disease. In my opinion, this gentle touch on such topics made her characters all the more relatable and the readers might fall in love more with the books. After all, it wasn't just a typical pro hockey romance. There was depth and thoughtfulness and so much effort put into this baby.

All in all, it was such a delight to devour this book for me because of the banter between Kane and Daisy, the secondary characters such as Daisy's older brother/Kane's best friend, River, Reece, Charliegh, and even Tim-Tom-Ted-who, all the hockey games references (definitely a rare find in hockey romance novels nowadays), and above all, the glimpse of our main couple, Malaki & Reece, in the next installment, coming this Fall!

"You've been gambling with my heart from the moment I met you, Daisy. Today is no exception."

Enough said, please preorder the book to get a bonus scene delivered to you on release day, May 22nd, and start binging reading The Chicago Blue Devils series! Happy reading!!

📚 Book 3 in the "Blue Devils Hockey Series" [Can be read as a standalone]

S.J. Sylvis has done it again. I thought it might be hard to top Rhodes from Skate the Line but maaannnn Kane is next level. You kinda wanna hate him for how he treats Daisy after the beginning of the book, but honestly you really can't because you're in his head and you know its all a front.

Daisy is so resilient, her entire world changes but shes still rolling with the punches and making the best out of the hand that she has been dealt. She matches Kane's energy and goes toe to toe with him, all while still showing her heart of gold.

The tension between Daisy & Kane is just too good. You know they are end game, but that still doesnt stop you from wanting to smack Kane in the back of the head [NCIS Gibbs Style] for acting like a player and making Daisy jealous. At times it was a little much, and I just wanted them to get together already, but I had faith and it was worth the wait.

The love that Daisy has always had for Kane, wasnt just some brother's best friend crush. She was his safe place, and she did a lot for him that he wasnt even aware of. She held him down, even when he was out there making a fool of himself, and she deserves all the love and attention that Kane can provide.

I also really love that we continued to see Malaki and glimpse what his story is going to be like since he's invested in Daisy's friend Reese! I cannot wait to read about their love story and hopefully we get to see more Kane & Daisy since Malaki is Kane's roomie.
