In today's society many people are self-conscious about their appearance due to the vast amount of pressure from the media. BDD can develop in children as young as 5 and it already affects a high percentage of people world-wide. It's particularly important to educate young people nowadays about healthy positive body image. They're continuously bombarded by the media of what is acceptable in terms of looks and body wise. Not only do more people feel pressured by today's society but may turn to Cosmetic surgery. Many personal experiences can cause BDD to develop, it's most certainly psychological. Comparisons, Media brainwashing and bullying incidents are some of the most common root triggers that cause BDD.
