Hot in Chicago #1

Flirting with Fire

Rate this book
The first installment in Hot in Chicago, a brand-new, sizzling series from Kate Meader that follows a group of firefighting foster siblings and their blazing hot love interests!

Savvy PR guru Kinsey Taylor has always defined herself by her career, not her gender. That is, until she moved from San Francisco to Chicago to be with her fiancé who thought she wasn’t taking her “job” of supporting him in his high-powered career seriously enough—and promptly dumped her for a more supportive and “feminine” nurse. Now, as the new assistant press secretary to Chicago’s dynamic mayor, she’s determined to keep her eye on the prize: no time to feel inferior because she’s a strong, kick-ass woman, and certainly no time for men.

But that all changes when she meets Luke Almeida, a firefighter as searingly sexy as he is quick-tempered. He’s also the second oldest of the Firefightin’ Dempseys, a family of foster siblings who have committed their lives to the service—if Luke’s antics don’t get him fired first. When Luke goes one step too far and gets into a bar brawl with the Chicago Police Department, Kinsey marches into Luke’s firehouse and lays down the law on orders from the mayor. But at Engine Co. 6, Luke Almeida is the law. And he’s not about to let Kinsey make the rules.

Flirting With Fire is book one in the Hot In Chicago series by Kate Meader. To be honest, I have already read some of this series and am only now going back to read book one. I have previously read and loved the prequel, Rekindle the Flame, book #1.5, Melting Point, and book two, Playing with Fire. In a way, I kind of loved that the characters and stories of the books I’ve already loved were introduced in this book and reminded me how much I loved them. But for now, we’ll concentrate on this book, Luke and Kinsey’s story.

Luke Almeida is the second to the oldest of the Dempsey clan, a family of fire fighters. He is thirty two years old and works along with all of his siblings at Engine 6. The two most important things to Luke is his family and his work. He is protective of his siblings above all else. Which was the cause of his current predicament. His fists got in the way of his rational thinking when a certain person came into their bar and caused problems with his sister. Now he finds himself on leave from work and his future in the hands of a very annoying and very beautiful assistant to the mayor.

Kinsey Taylor moved from San Francisco to Chicago for her then fiance to accommodate his career. But shortly after making the move, her now ex-fiance decided she wasn’t the right fit and took up with a nurse. She’s been at her job as assistant press secretary to the mayor for four months. The mayor is up in arms about a public relations nightmare involving a fist fight between one of their firefighters and one of their police force. And it’s Kinsey’s job to make it all better. Kinsey was in no way prepared for Luke Almeida. All she wants is to work on her career but Luke has other ideas.

These two together were like fire and ice! What I loved is that everything that Kinsey’s ex didn’t like about her is what Luke respected about her, her drive, her determination, her strength. I have to admit, I didn’t much care for her boss, Eli, the mayor. But even though I don’t remember all the details, I know I fell in love with him when I read his book. I also want to mention that I adored the introduction to Luke’s brother, Gage, and his future love interest, Brady.

There was so much here, so many obstacles Luke and Kinsey had to overcome, both external and internal. Their journey was a bumpy one. They just had to finally figure out that they were stronger together. These two made me smile so much. I adore the Dempsey family. I love the undying support they have for one another, and how they can also get on each other’s nerves. This is a fantastic book. Since I’ve already read book two, the next book for me will be book three, Wyatt’s book, Sparking the Fire. I can’t wait.

I'm gonna be brutally honest here. I have a migraine, I'm on my period, I'm hella cranky and frankly too tired and lazy to write a proper review at the moment. All of which probably affects my opinion on this as well. I got annoyed with several things in this one and you know what, my perverted soul wanted more sexy times and definitely more descriptive sexy times. So all in all it wasn't a bad read but could have been soooo much better.

Hey, everyone! FLIRTING WITH FIRE is the first book in my brand new series about Chicago firefighters, Hot in Chicago. Meet the Firefightin’ Dempseys, a family of foster siblings who work hard and play harder. Wyatt, Luke, Beck, Alexandra, and Gage have followed in the footsteps of their late foster father, legendary firefighter Sean Dempsey, and live by the lessons he taught them: fire is stronger than blood and defend the people you love to the last ember. Book 1 features Luke, an Irish-Cuban hothead fireman and Kinsey, the PR guru assigned to clean up his reputation. And if that's not smokin' enough, it also has a M/M romance between a cocky gay firefighter and a gruff, former Marine, gourmet chef. I'm soooo excited about this series and am really looking forward to sharing it with you!

Though it's not required to read this first, you can get a teaser of the Dempseys in the anthology, BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE featuring Jennifer Probst, Emma Chase, Kristen Proby, Melody Anne, and me! In my novella, firefighter Beck Rivera and heiress-turned-tattoo-artist Darcy Cochrane discover that nothing ignites holiday flames like rekindling a lost love…

Flirting with Fire by Kate Meader
1st in the Hot in Chicago series. Contemporary romance.
Kinsey is sent to Chicago’s firehouse Engine Company 6 as a PR rep to improve their wild reputation. Luke doesn’t agree that his firehouse needs an attitude adjustment but has no choice but to comply with the city mandate. Sparks fly in more than just the fires these heroes handle.

Smart, spicy and steamy. And perfect for St Patrick Day celebration week.

I am a huge fan of Kate Meaders' writing. Sadly this one did not hit the heights that her previous books have with me.

At halfway, nothing much had really happened with Luke and Kinsey. The little additions with Gage and Brady held more interest for me.

The pacing of this book is also a lot slower than my previous reads from this author, and although there are nuggets of her usual verbal and inner monologue brilliance the gaps of slow pacing are too long and too frequent.

There is a lot going on though, but I think for me the story needed to be more 'compact'.

I still have great respect for Kate Meaders' writing, this one just didn't work for me.

“You fuckin’ slay me, Kinsey.”

Kinsey Taylor learned the hard way that being a strong-willed female isn’t always appreciated by the opposite sex. When her fiancé, who she moved from San Francisco to Chicago for, dumps her for a more “feminine” nurse, Kinsey decides that never again would she put herself second for any man.

When her new job as the assistant press secretary to Chicago’s mayor brings her in contact with firefighter Luke Almeida, she’s determined to do her job of cleaning up the reputation of Engine No.6 and Luke, and not to get distracted by how sexy he is. However Luke is used to being the law around Engine No.6 and soon sparks fly between these two hot-heads.

He felt like his skin had been flayed and every nerve was exposed. It had snuck up on him, this depth of feeling. One kiss at a time, one scorching touch. One woman who made his knees buckle along with his brain.

I absolute adored Luke and how protective he was over his foster siblings. He hasn’t had an easy life, and nothing means more to him than taking care of his family. After the lesson he learned from is ex, he didn’t want to be attracted to another strong woman, but he just couldn’t ignore the attraction he felt for Kinsey. I loved how he appreciated her strength, her independence and her competiveness. He was just so damn sexy!

I liked Kinsey’s feistiness and how strong-minded she was. Here’s a heroine who takes charge of her life, her career and even her own sexual pleasure and I loved that. She did frustrate me near the end, with her unwillingness to compromise, to see what Luke was offering her, and I hate how she hurt him, but luckily she came to her senses quickly and grovelled good ;-D

“I thought I wanted someone easy who’d let me run roughshod all over her. Instead I get you, Kinsey. Bossy, strong, sexy as hell, a pain in my ass. A gorgeous pain in my ass. My heart hurts when I’m not with you and”—he squeezed her hands tighter—“shit, baby, it hurts when I’m with you, too, but it’s that good hurt, you know? You’ve got your hook in me. You’re the barb I can’t get loose.”

The intense chemistry between these two was fabulous, and it was wonderful how both tried to get the upper-hand, but also how they took care of each other when it was needed. The sexy times were incredibly hot, and the sweetness at the end perfect. I just loved the romance in this book, and how happy it made me ;-)

“And what if I can’t give you what you’re looking for?”
Brady’s brow crumpled in rather endearing bafflement that made Gage want to smile.
“And what if you can?”

Luke’s foster siblings were awesome. There’s Wyatt, the oldest, who’s broody and who disappears every night and no one knows where he goes to. Then there’s Alex, the only sister, who is also a firefighter. I adore her, and how tough she is. There is definitely some sparks between her and Eli, the mayor who is a chauvinistic jerk at times, and I’m looking forward to reading their book. Then there’s Gage, the baby Thor, who was amazing. Honestly he stole the show for me, with his openness about being gay, and how much he loves attention. And the attraction between him and Brady, the sexy chef, was my favorite part of this book. I NEED to know more about them. NOW.

Kate Meader is a fantastic author. I love her steamy and sexy romances and how well rounded her characters are. This was a wonderful first installment and a definite must read for all romance fans.

Flirting with Fire ticked all the right boxes for me. A sexy HOT, bad tempered fire fighter Luke Almieda who has the biggest heart and is the family protector. Kinsey Taylor is a bossy, strong, sexy career driven independent woman. This has everything you need for a great read, sexy romance, funny sexy banter, sweet family moments and great characters I loved ALL the Dempseys.

Kinsey is sent by the Mayor of Chicago to clean up the image of Engine 6 fire house after a punch up between CFD and CPD goes viral. From their first meeting in the locker room Kinsey and Luke are enemies. Luke hates the fact that he has to follow Kinsey’s orders and strip for a Men on Fire calendar but Kinsey takes it further than just the calendar much to Luke’s annoyance.

Spending more time together the sparks soon fly between them but they have both been burned in the past so they both agree this is just a rebound fling. Kinsey gets to know and spends more time with Luke’s foster family the Dempseys, Wyatt, Gage and Alex. Something happens while Alex is on shift, how far will Kinsey go to save Alex’s career? What has the future planned for Luke and Kinsey?

The Dempseys are a foster family of five siblings, 4 brothers and 1 sister that work together at Engine 6 this never happens but the older Dempseys pulled strings to make sure they stay together as they lost their foster Dad Sean and big brother Logan on duty years ago.

Told from dual POV mostly we do get a few chapters in Gage’s POV about his m/m relationship with Brady (don’t know if they will get their own novel in the future, hope so). Playing with Fire is the next book Alex and Eli’s story which I can’t wait for.

I have only read the novella for this series by Kate Meader before but I love her writing style and I will be checking out her other books.

If you read the Baby, It's Cold Anthology, we had an early introduction to the sexy Dempseys Foster Siblings. And in Flirting with Fire by Kate Meader, we are introduced to one of the eldest of the Dempseys foster sibling, Luke Almeida.

#FlirtingWithFire

Luke Almeida is the hot sexy alpha firefighter, former Marine who loves three things: his family, his work and sex. He has lived his life in serving and protecting the Dempseys name. His siblings are his life. Their needs are always put before him and he would do anything for them. As you can tell, Luke is a family man and takes his sibling love on a whole new level. So when Luke found himself involved in an altercation with CPD, that was found damaging to his image and fire station, the mayor has ordered his press secretary to handle Luke and his station.

Kinsey Taylor is the PR guru hired by the mayor of Chicago to handle the situation of Luke Almeida. Kinsey is your independent, head strong career driven woman. She has been burned by love and so looking for love has been the last thing she had in mind. But when Kinsey meets Luke, she couldn't help but be drawn to this sexy, confident, and over-protective alpha. She soon finds herself being drawn to his beautiful heart and family. So when Kinsey finds herself in the middle of a media circus dealing with Luke's sister and one of the mayor's biggest contributor, she must decide what is the right thing to do: to help the mayor or help Luke's sister.

Flirting With Fire is a book that really focuses on the theme of FAMILY. This book showcases how each sibling has each other's back and will do anything for each other. The Dempseys siblings are a strong united front and no one can destroy that bond. They may not be related by blood but they are siblings who are tied by the bonds of love and loyalty. Though this book focuses on Luke and Kinsey and their budding romance, it also focuses on the other siblings. I really enjoyed getting to know Gage and Alex. I loved that Kate Meader was able to insert and showcase a M/M romance of Gage and Brady. And I think Alex's spitfire personality, was a fiery touch to the story line. I love seeing how Alex didn't just rely on her brothers to help her out but she can definitely handle things herself as well. Kate Meader did an amazing job with this book. She was able to incorporate love, family, honor, and heart throughout the story line. The writing and the characters will keep readers engaged. So if you are looking for a book that has a firefighter that will keeps things smoking hot in and out of the bedroom, then go meet Luke Almeida and his siblings. Things are about to get blazing hot when you meet the DEMPSEYS!!!

Looking forward to reading Alex's story in Playing With Fire. Can't wait to see what's in store for this independent and feisty woman!!! Kate Meader

4.5 out of 5 stars

This was an excellent read! A full, detailed, rich story with well rounded characters that had real depth and vulnerability. Together Luke and Kenzie had fantastic chemistry and where both challenging which made for great animosity and playfulness. There were a major amount of sparks flying between these two which made for some hot-hot-hot times! Loved it!

Kenzie and Luke had a great build to their relationship. It was a bit complicated but fun and sexy. Kenzie was this super strong woman and she's really feisty. I love the journey she went on. I thought she was an extremely well written character. And Luke, oh man, hello hot, sexy, sweet (and stubborn!) fireman. Together they were awesome. This story had great development and good pacing. Loved their verbal sparing. There was also bit of angst and drama and a whole lot of passion.

There are several POV's at play and it made it extremely entertaining. Not only was there Kenzie and Luke but there was a side story with Gage that was really great. I loved meeting all of Luke’s foster siblings and learning all their details. I like the family dynamic they’ve created and look foreword to everyone's stories. I really liked Alex but I am super curious about Wyatt. The strong, silent types always get me.

This was such a fantastic introduction to the series. I want more of the siblings, I want to know their stories. Give me more! It just made my heart happy!!!

Oh man... this was so good! Great story with great characters that left me completely and thoroughly satisfied! I'm really looking forward to the next book... :)
This series revolves around the Dempsey family who were all raised together as foster children. They now all work as firefighters in the same unit. Luke is the guy that has elected himself as guardian of his foster brothers and sister. Because of a haunted past, he is obsessed with making sure they are safe and protected. He also has a nasty temper that got him into a bit of trouble with the Mayor. That's where Kinsey steps into the picture. She works for the mayor and it's her job to fix the PR nightmare that Luke has caused. But, she got more than she bargained for when she meets Luke for the first time and tries to organize a plan to save his reputation.
This first book revolves mostly around Luke and Kinsey. I loved their love/hate relationship in the beginning. But, as the layers of their past unfold, they find healing and happiness in each others arms. Oh, and lots of "heat"... let's not forget the heat!
There is also a very enticing M/M romance blooming with fellow firefighter Gage and ex-marine Brady. Gage is a self-proclaimed man-whore who knows he's hot and good looking. He's just little bit vain... yep, just a smidgen. Brady is a 5 star Chef who also rides a Harley, is covered in tattoos and doesn't talk much. Gage is drawn to Brady but Brady is mysteriously hands off. By the end of the book I was completely won over by Brady... I really want to know more about him. I think he may be just the medicine Gage needs for his self-absorbed ego. Should be interesting... their relationship is only just getting started.
We also have lots to look forward to with all of the other Dempsey family members. Too much to name but the author has done a fantastic job setting up what it surely to be a very entertaining series.
My favorite part of the book?? Hands down the filming of the fireman calendar... lots of giggles there... and who can resist a fireman holding a sweet little kitten?? Not me... :)

I get the alpha-male/sassy-female trope. But Luke was unlikable enough in the beginning that it was difficult for him to redeem himself. I also don’t dig on heroines who are in a relationship while screaming about how they don’t want a relationship. If y’all are hanging out all the time, spending time with family, having sex, having meals, talking about your feelings, including one another in plans and you’re together. You can get all wrapped up in your head about it - but that’s a relationship. And the more you deny it the less I like you.

Firefighter meets jilted woman. Hmmm. It was pretty fun and I really enjoyed the family. Especially Gage! It was a bit corny and the heroine pulled a very lame chicken move at the end, but it all worked out since Luke was a total rockstar!

I plan to read the next book and hope it is just as good!

Slick's review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

When I read the prequel for Kate Meader’s Hot In Chicago series I knew readers were in for a treat and she’s proven it with the first full length book in this series Flirting With Fire. I love an author who can make me laugh out loud, make me sigh, and make my panties melt off and Ms. Meader has done that and more in this book. The foster brothers and sister that make up the Dempsey family are crazy, sexy, devoted and dedicated to uphold the “family” name as they serve in the Chicago Fire Department. I loved this book from the first chapter to the very last word and even when things got tough I knew in my heart that together they would make it right.

I wanted to hate Luke Alemida for his cockiness but I simply couldn’t because early on it was evident that was the face he showed to the world but there was so much more to the man underneath. Dedicated to his job at Engine Company 6 of the CFD, devoted to his siblings, loyal to the foster children he mentors Luke is simply a great guy. That’s not to say he doesn’t have some baggage or that his temper doesn’t often get him in trouble but the minute he meets Kinsey Taylor his world is never quite the same again.

Smart and good at her job as a public relations assistant for the city of Chicago the last thing Kinsey wants is to babysit a fireman with a temper, one that is a sensation due to a fight in his family’s pub with a member of the Chicago Police Department. Yet going toe to toe with him in the locker room at the station while he’s dressed only in a towel, she can’t deny the way her body reacts to him or the fact that his must-be-fake blue eyes seem to see right through her.

Holy smokes (yeah, yeah I know that’s a bad pun but it works) these to set the pages on fire with their immediate attraction and their verbal foreplay. They start out on opposite sides but in working together they find that they have more in common than either one wants to admit and when they finally act on their attraction there is no denying the sexual chemistry between them. But, it’s much more than that…Kinsey finds herself immersed in the Dempsey family world and enjoying quite a lot. She gets along well with Luke’s younger siblings Gabe (aka Baby Thor) and his sister Alexandra (Alex) and while his older brother Wyatt (aka Tall ‘n Dark) kind of scares her she admires the closeness they all share. While cleaning up Luke’s reputation and ensuring he gets back on the job she spends a lot of time with the whole family and a lot of special time with Luke. She finds herself straddling the line between keeping her boss, the mayor, happy and the loyalty she feels for the Dempsey clan which in the end forces her to make some big changes in her life.

I loved this book, this family, and this couple so much I think I could write a book about how special they all are but instead how about you just go to your favorite bookseller and grab it! Smart and sexy this is a family based romance that will have you laughing out loud one moment and sighing in pleasure the next and more than that you don’t want it to end because you realize you’ve fallen in love with another series.

Flirting With Fire is the first in a new series from author Kate Meader and after falling in love with Kate’s work in an earlier anthology, I was dying to read this book. Well, to say this book lived up to all of my expectations would be understatement of the year…

Kinsey Taylor and Luke Almeida meet under less than ideal circumstances. He’s gone and gotten into a bar fight with one of Chicago PD’s finest, which was now all over YouTube, and as the Mayor’s PR whiz, she was now charged with showing him in a better public light. Normally, Kinsey would be halfway into the project, but Luke would prove to be no ordinary project. Not only was he part of the infamous Firefighting Dempsey clan, he was drop dead gorgeous and had ego to spare. He was also beyond stubborn. Lucky for her, and equally unlucky for him, she was damned used to working hard to get the job done and she wasn’t going to back down. In fact, she was going to give whatever he threw at her back tenfold and with an extra dash of sass. Let the games begin…

It may have started out as an innocent mission to clean up Luke and his stations’s reputation, but before long the push and pull power play between Luke and Kinsey turns into a heat that will burn hotter and brighter than either one of them has known. Problems are mounting though. Not only because he’s got to behave and she’s got a job to do but because they’ve both been hurt terribly in the past by the one’s who should have loved them most. Could the heat they found burn up all that remains of the past and give them a fresh start through the ashes?
For the love of all things hot and sexy, I loved this book. I loved this book so much. Luckily I started reading this on a day I didn’t have much to do because I actually didn’t stop reading until I had finished it. Read through lunch, read through my son’s algebra homework, and pretty much read through dinner. It was a pizza night here.

Where do I even begin telling you all the things I loved about this book? Why don’t we start with Luke. He is everything I want in a hero. He’s sexy, built, the perfect amount of cocky and sweet, and has a hidden soft side that makes me weak in the knees. That, by far, is my favorite thing about him. He may look like a hard ass on the outside but his heart is huge and reserved for the people he loves. He may be a former foster kid, but he loved his adopted family with a fierceness that was enviable and admirable. From page one, I knew he was going to be a force to be reckoned with…and he didn’t disappoint. Kinsey was the perfect counterpart. So much like him in so many ways. Used to have to work hard to shrug off a label. Strong. Determined. Able to give his ego right back to him and it drove him crazy.

Of course, that just added to that slow burn between them and with every interaction it was stoked into a flame that eventually had to be addressed….and oh my, was it ever. There are two particular scenes that had me melting into a puddle on the floor. So. Hot.

And can I just take a minute to give the cover a mention? I lost count at how many times I paused after reading a delicious Luke scene to take a look at that cover. Whoever that man is, he is the perfect Luke!
Adding even more to this story was the entire Dempsey clan. These are all characters with a beautiful death and multifaceted factor that has me beyond excited for the rest of this series.

Just trust me when I say: Get. This. Book. You will NOT be disappointed! Thank you, Kate, for Luke, Kinsey, and the entire Dempsey crew. I will now be nursing my book hangover with some tequila and a campfire scented candle *dreamy sigh*

Chemistry: Off the charts Scorchio

POV: 3rd Person

One-Sentence Summary: Kinsey Taylor, almighty PR guru, is tasked with reforming bad boy firefighter Luke Almeida and *spoiler alert* sparks fly

Review: I'm a big big fan of Kate Meader and ever since I first met the Dempseys in the 'Baby It's Cold Outside'anthology, I have been eagerly awaiting the first full length novel in the series and it did not disappoint!

From the opening scene where Kinsey 'takes no prisoners' Taylor lays down the law to Luke 'I've got that whole protective don't-mess-with-my-family thing going on' Almeida, the sparks fly.

Whilst both characters have a very tough exterior, they have both had a rough time when it comes to past relationships and throughout the book they both have to learn to put aside their fears in order to give their new relationship a real chance.

I love Kinsey and admired the way she handled just about everything that was thrown her way throughout the book (plus she has an awesome father and there are a couple really enjoyable Kinsey/Kinsey's Dad/Luke scenes).

Whilst I like Luke (I mean, c'mon, he's the love of our heroine's life and is ridiculously hot), I have to say that he wasn't the Dempsey that I was most invested in in this book - that award goes to Alex. Or Gage. I can't decide, I love them both! I'm so excited for Alex's book which is up next so I will save my love for her until then, but let's take a minute to appreciate Gage.

I've never read a M/M romance novel before (nothing against it, there's just so many hetero romances on my 'to read' list, I plan to get through all of them first (ha!) before expanding my horizons) so it was really nice for me to experience my first M/M romance through it being the secondary romance in this book. Gage/Brady! I love them! More specifically Gage who is just so confident in his sexuality at the start of the book but becomes adorably unsure of himself around the angsty tortured chef. I guess we will just have to wait to find out what Brady's deal is.

Finally, if you're still not convinced that you need to go out any buy this book right now, let me tell you that there is a ridiculously hot 'straight out of every woman's romance novel wishlist' scene which involves a certain sexy hot firefighter having to strip and model his rock hard abs for a photoshoot and, did I mention, cuddle kittens ..... now there's an image!

I honestly hadn't been expecting much from this novel, in fact based on the cover and the synopsis I was expecting this one to be pretty bad. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself starting to enjoy the story. I loved how Meader created so many different intertwining plot lines and even a secondary romance with one of Luke's foster brothers; there was hardly a dull moment, and I loved that!

Though there was nothing earth shattering about this novel it was entertaining, in mindless reality television kind of way, but entertaining nonetheless. I loved reading about Luke and Kinsey and the drama surrounding their initial meeting. Flirting with Fire was full of surprising plot twists and I was surprised by how much drama Meader was able to fit into this novel, so often with contemporary novels I find myself getting bored because reading about day to day activities never interests me. From conflicts between Kinsey and her boss to the side story about Luke's foster brother Gage, there was plenty of story lines to keep me entertained.

As for the romance, Meader executed it astonishingly well for what it was. I've never been a fan of any kind of romance that starts with little meaning behind it, as was the case this time, but the way it was executed made me enjoy it anyway. Maybe it was because I could tell that both Luke and Kinsey were hiding their feelings, even from themselves, but I felt a connection between them that I don't usually feel in romances like this. Though I wouldn't call the romance raunchy it had plenty of perfectly placed steamy scenes and Meader was able to keep everything classy while still adding plenty of spice, something I always appreciate.

The only thing that irritated me a little bit about this book was how Kinsey and Luke made everything difficult for themselves through poor communication. I suppose there wouldn't have been much of a story if they didn't, but I got a little frustrated with them toward the end of the novel because I wanted everything for them to work out but they were making it so difficult. However, the conflict between them didn't go on long and I was happy to see the two of them work everything out.

In the end I would definitely recommend Flirting With Fire to those looking for something fun to read that doesn't require a whole lot of thinking. This is the perfect book to sit down with and de-stress at the end of a long day. Fans of contemporary romance have found a winner with Kate Meader.

Oh wow…a sexy firefighter (check out the cover!) and a PR rep assigned by the Mayor to help fix a major public perception problem---what could go wrong?

Kinsey Taylor, PR guru has had enough. Enough of dealing with men who don’t respect her and her expertise because she’s a woman. Now, she’s been assigned to rehab the reputation of a firefighter who threw a punch at an old nemesis and was caught on film.

Luke Almeida is pissed. Pissed at himself because he couldn’t hold in his temper and pissed at the Mayor for forcing his hand and having to go along with this PR assignment. What he doesn’t expect is the immediate attraction he has for Kinsey and just how far she’ll go to push all his buttons.

Kinsey and Luke are like gasoline and fire. They’re explosive---both in temperament and between the sheets! Will these two ridiculously strong willed individuals realize their true feelings before it’s too late for love?

I LOVED this book! Kinsey and Luke are now one of my favorite book couples. Their chemistry is through the roof. LOVE their conversations, and the sexy scenes are hot hot hot. Add in Luke’s foster siblings (all firefighters too), plus the rest of the crew from Engine Company 6 and you have a great blend of humor, love and friendship. For those concerned about reading a firefighter book, there’s no peril or any danger to the firefighters in this book. Just a whole lot of laughs, playful banter and oh yes, sexy firefighters that are sure to set your panties on fire! ~ Missy, 5 stars

I swear Kate Meader is my new favorite author. I just recently discovered her writing and so far I’ve loved everything I’ve read. Really I just can’t get enough!

Luke is super sexy. Not only is he hot AND a fireman but he’s all about his family and, come on, is there anything sexier than a man who puts his family above all else?
Then there is Kinsey the sexy, smart PR rep sent in to save the reputation of the city by cleaning up the image of punch-first, think later Luke.

The chemistry between the two of them was out of control. That calendar shoot scene, all I can say is *pop*. They had this sexy banter between them that was so fun to read. It was even funnier to read the reactions of those around them when they were going at it…verbally.

As much as I enjoyed their story, it was the inclusion of the other Dempsey family members that really pushed this book over the top for me. I’m so excited to read more about Gage and see how his story pans out. What I’ve read so far interested me in a way I never thought I’d be interested. I’m intrigued by Wyatt and can’t wait to see what secrets and surprises he has in store for us. Luckily it looks like we’ll be getting Alex’s story next. I really can’t wait to see where that one goes!!!

The writing is flawless and the storytelling is perfection. I easily get lost in each new story I read by Kate Meader and can’t even explain how anxious I am to get the next book in my hand.

I have been wanting to start a fireman series for a long while now and I feel like I found the PERFECT one to start with! I hate getting all synopsis-y with books, especially when I’m behind in reviews, so I’m just going to bullet point a few things out…

• Hot ass fireman family in Chicago

• Like…the whole family of foster siblings….all firemen…and women…

• Strong, independent and heartbroken lady…

• Said lady meets fireman…

• They split a lot of hairs and hurtle a lot of sarcastic banter/insults back and forth while trying to deny their incredible sexual chemistry/tension and feign indifference at best…

• They fail…

• He comes to her house after a fire….without showering….AND I LOVED IT….SOOOOO MUCH

• Here comes the conflict…OH MAN!

• Easy resolve….PHEW

• HEA!!!!!

I LOVED THIS SERIES AND WILL DEFINETLY BE CONTINUING….

3.5 stars!

I really enjoyed the story of Kinsey and Luke. It's easy to see the love being the Dempsey siblings and I really loved the fact that even though the main story was between Luke and Kinsey, we also got a glimpse of the story between Gage and Brady. How can you complain when you have MF and MM all within the same book??

Looking forward to Alex and Eli's story next! :)

Nope. Just a big fat no.

FYI *This is my opinion. Feel free to take it with a Grain of Salt as I couldn't even complete the book. I had to skim.*

I tried. I tried to be patient.

I put the book down and then said, hey, give it another shot even though they overused the phrase "that's gay" that even I got a little "WTF?!"

Here's the thing. Luke is supposed to be an Alpha Male Fireman
with a "fuck and run" mentality. Every man seems to be jealous of him and every woman wants to jump on 'his hose' but he's got a sensitive side because of his love for family and duty.

HOWEVER
I didn't find Luke to be an Alpha Male, I found him to be an overbearing, potentially dangerous asshole, with a hair trigger, with a tendency to be condescending to the female character. He was not only unlikable but straddling that line of being a misogynist (only he never crosses it due to his support and love for his firefighter sister). I didn't care enough to find out whether his patronizing and undue hatred eventually became something else because if I met him at a bar, I'd have told him

Kinsey, I had hopes for her, I hoped she'd be able to stand up to Luke (and Eli) since she came off as all kick ass female. Instead she got her panties wet and her knees all trembly anytime she came within two hundred feet of him, even when he's pretty much calling her a cock tease and telling her that she must not be a very good feminist because "c'mon, look at the way you're dressed" (I wish I could find the exact quote but I quickly returned this library book). And oh, let's not forget that terms of endearment that aren't earned or appropriate drop out of his mouth every time he talks to her. Red flag baby.

This is what should have happened: .

This is what actually happened:

This is what happened to me:

And please oh please I will not get started on the actual misogynist in this book - The Mayor, Eli - Kinsey's boss. The shit that came out of his mouth made Luke look like a saint. Kinsey only passively called him out on his BS and then she lost her nerve because she didn't want to lose her job. Which I understand but come on, that's now two people you let treat you poorly, plus the guy you moved for.

So, you have a bully who is masquerading as an Alpha and an insecure woman maquerading as a Strong Female in Power.

These two most likely deserve each other but I didn't care whether or not they lived happily ever after.
