Teen Wolf AU - Words:41260 complete
Stiles has a magical thingamajig that's supposed to get him out of danger. Trouble is, it took him really, really far out of danger. Like, to the point where he isn't in the same universe anymore.

"A part of Stiles had been thinking that he’d come home, and just go, 'hey, Derek, are we mates and you just haven’t said anything about it?' and Derek would reply, 'now you mention it, we are indeed! Now come to my bedchamber, where we will have super hot sex and then cuddle after!'"

I don't know if I liked that. It was interesting and very different but I don't think I really connected too much with it. I wanted things a certain way and they didn't end up that way. Why they didn't did make sense to me but I still want what I want. I dunno. I read it and didn't not want to read it I just don't know if I ever fully connected with it. It was funny at parts though and sweet. I realized once I started that it may be part of a series. I am going to research that now. I would like more Stiles and Derek, not Other Stiles and Other Derek. So much Other.

Love! Love, love, love, love this story!

I'm a huge fan of AU stories anyway. I love seeing other people's ideas of how things might have been if one or two things were different.

To have the AU and the original universe overlap and interact like this was spectacularly great fun!

There were so many surprises in here, so many fun twists and adventures. And to have non-fated-mates Sterek come to the conclusion that they did about choices was beautiful.

Favorite Quotes:
Stiles has just enough time to wonder if this is what disapparating feels like before he lands again.

Stiles jumps and beckons desperately, trying to convey that he is incompetent and in need of help.

A cheeky little voice in Stiles' head chirrups something about not being in Kansas anymore, and Stiles has to agree with it.

They sort of remind him of the Mongol hordes in Mulan. Not just because they're totally the villains here, but because they have so many random layers and straps running across their body, and this rugged look to them, both the men and the women. Stiles half expects them to break out into a song about their diabolical intentions.

only Derek manages to pull a half beard and long hair off, looking like a wolfy Jesus instead of an unshaved mountain man.

Stiles, now that he's pretty sure he's going to live, is starting to enjoy this. Having a conversation with himself is pretty cool.

Captain's log, startdate... five. Five days into my stay in this alternate universe

"Back home, whenever we tried something like that, somebody always died. They came back to life a lot, but somebody always died."

He and Deaton stare at each other for a moment.
"You aren't quite Stiles."
"You... have dreadlocks."

Stiles wants. He wants that for himself, wants to put the ease and the teasing and the mates into a bottle and take it home with him.

Derek's shocked face is something to behold. Stiles is getting to see a whole scrapbook's worth of expressions today.

Sometimes hunters are so much like the incompetent henchmen in cartoons that Stiles just wants to facepalm all over the place.

and Stiles tends to get distracted by all of the touching

"Angsty, dude."
"It's my thing."

Very enjoyable mate-esque fic where actual Stiles is thrust into an alternate universe in which Other Derek and Other Stiles actually ARE mates.

The story is inventive and imaginative, and while it will definitely require a hefty amount of suspension of disbelief (not that you aren't already expecting to do so with a Teen Wolf fanfic), it was really fun and a little less angsty than the other works I've read by AO3 fanfic author Survivah. Instead of the angst, the story delivered action-adventure, and I really liked those parts.

Recommended!

Próbowałam zaangażować się w tę historię, ale, pomimo interesującego pomysłu, okazała się niemożliwie nudna. Pisanie nie było całkiem złe, więc 2 gwiazdki zamiast 1.

2.75 stars This was a bit strange. On the one hand, I appreciate that it took a different approach, and I definitely haven’t read something like this before. 1) Both with Derek and 2) with the plot

But I also didn’t love the way those things played out in the story. It was okay, but just didn’t give me the feelz I usually get.

I really enjoyed this! I’m a huge fan of alternate universes in general and this one in particular ticked a lot of my boxes: dystopian near-apocalyptic feel, a resistance with werewolf guerrillas with a cause (yay!), pining, emotionally constipated!derek, and a Stiles who is full of snark and sass. I also really liked the alternate versions of everybody and the what-if-explorations of the characters.

And while I’m usually SUCH a sucker for the inevitability of mates, in this fic I loved that Original Stiles and Original Derek actually got to choose each other.

Also, really well-written with good dialogue throughout. Lovely!

3.x★ Okay, so I like multiverse concepts, and it's fun seeing "our" Stiles trying to figure out how he feels about mushy fated-mates Other Stiles and Other Derek — a less-sour!wolf Derek who sometimes genuinely laughs! and cuddles! 😲 The varieties of angst, drama, and ridiculousness, and all the characterizations of both sets of characters (the awkward conversations!!), are excellent.

I do wish that the brief "captain's log" bits Stiles starts some sections with were in italics or something to set them off from from the rest of the text, because the sudden
switching into and back out of first-person was confusing. That's a minor quibble, though. There are a few little things proofreading missed, but that's minor, too.

My 3★ verdict is more due to my general reaction, not having been as deeply gripped as I would have preferred, nor was I left with a happy sigh at the end of the story (as opposed to certain scenes).

Not-fated-soulmates Stiles and Derek *choosing* to acknowledge their feelings and daring to act on them is 👍💞👍. I also appreciate that the gang from our version of Beacon Hills decides not to just leave those from the grittier, supernaturals-are-governmentally-oppressed-and-hunted reality to struggle through probably doomed decades if they may be able to help (), but I didn't find the ending fully convincingly satisfactory for anyone but our Sterek, given what was and wasn't shown or explained, though there is some hope. 🤷 YMMV.

Interesting....

I kept thinking if they are alternate mates then what's up at home, ya know? By the time something finally happens I've been pointed out and realized that they AREN'T mates kind of makes their feelings more meaningful. They have to actually work at it but the end result is worth it.

On the flip side of that would be if Derek met his actual soul-mate after all the hard work of getting together with Stiles. Kind of reminds me of Bound to Shadows where Riley Jensen builds a relationship with vamp but runs across her (evil bastard) soul-mate... not to get off on that tangent but really? how the eff do a decent person has a soul bond with someone who's evil? Moving on... just the reference to the soul mate, regardless of the good/evil of the people involved.

Anyways... they are still a work in progress and I was good with how this closes out, while still wanting to see them 'finished'....
