Part love story, part adventure mystery, part travel guide for the soul, the award-winning novel The Longest Distance is a meditation in traveling from our heads to our hearts, and an awakening to what lies within. Shaken by tragedy in the wilds of Africa, Jeremy Braddock sets off in search of the answers to our questions about life, truth, and the all-too-trying-yet-wonderful emotion of love. From continent to continent, the protagonist takes us on a rollercoaster ride and riveting journey that reveals to us the masters, the maniacal beauty of this planet, and the greatest mystery of all––the ‘one thing’ we came here to know. As with life itself, he is not alone in this adventure, with the many supporting characters providing him with mirrored reflections of love in its varied forms, and a windowed view into his soul. Armed with his wit, his will, and an ample dose of healthy humility, our vigilant warrior attempts to summon within himself the courage we must all find to see the face of Truth, and walk the path of a higher Love. The Longest Distance evokes deeper contemplation à la Eat, Pray, Love with a level of discourse and discovery that will resonate with those who have been touched by the writings of Paulo Coelho and Neale Donald Walsch. Interwoven within the tapestry of the novel and in between each storied tale is an uplifting dialogue with Jeremy’s higher self -- the Friend that points the way. What adds to TLD’s universal appeal is the inspirational guest appearances of a myriad of Masters – from poets to statesmen to those of the cloth – along with each chapter’s unveiling of a key ‘quality’ that, when pieced together, helps to reveal the greater picture at hand -- the Love within the love that beckons us home. The Longest Distance is a sleuth of spirit and treasure hunt of the heart that awakens our soul and provides yet another clue for the curious, a jewel for the romanticist in us all.
David Scott was born in the United States, and raised in the world. He currently resides in Singapore, but remains deeply connected to the passion that is Paris, the power shift that finds its new home in Asia, and the movement to co-create and cooperate that had its genesis for him in America; its inspiration both within and throughout.
David has spent his career in the field of education, his life in the field of service. He is perhaps best known for his contributions as an accomplished entrepreneur, investor and leader in education, establishing and stewarding innovative school systems of size and scope in North America, the Middle East and Pacific Asia. He has played both visionary leader and humble student, with each measure of the world his teacher. David’s work in education and support of the life sciences has provided hope for a more advanced, equitable and sustainable means to greater health and life for those he has been privileged in knowing.
The central theme of both his scholarship as an educationist and his work as an author is the delicate but essential role of relationships. David’s travels have provided a cross-cultural perspective on relationships of a human nature. His discovery of the inner worlds through meditation and study of various teachings has offered a glimpse into the power of the possible that resides within. It is this he seeks to help unveil in all through education and transformative writing.
With a poetic note and romantic view to the worlds available to us all, David Scott’s writing explores relationships of a higher nature, with a particular emphasis on the Masters and their timely messages. His novel The Longest Distance has been called a meditation from the head to the heart, and an awakening to what lies within. It serves as a pathway to the eternal that is ours to claim.
David may be recognized in the world for his contributions to education. Yet, he remains humbled by the many lessons—the gifts—the world has bestowed upon him as his teacher.
First off, this is not a typical read for me. I generally gravitate towards suspense/action/mysteries, but I was recommended this as a good read for someone who is trying to figure out life and decided to give it a try. After reading this book, I have to admit that I found it meaningful, profound, and very relevant. Without giving too much away, if you are someone who is searching for yourself, you may just find some clarity and direction in this book.
The book truly lives up to its name. The writing is powerful and well written and really captivates an understanding about life's spiritual and physical elements which prevails hope and inspiration to us all. It certainly gave me a new appreciation about choosing wisely from within my heart using love as the ultimate tool. The thought provoking messages of inspiration and encouragement moved me to a place I can relate too better. The love we crave and the relevance and need we have for it shapes our lives as people. Jeremy struggles to find his inner being and searches for questions about love, life, and God. I believe that God is in us all and if we learn to embrace spirituality in its depth, I think we can all encounter the piece, joy, and fulfillment of what true love can give us all from this life and into the next. Finding this book during this time of need in my life was a God send, obstacles through every day life just got a whole lot easier. A great author and I hope to read a lot more of his work in the future. Thanks Jeremy.
his is a deeply moving and extremely well-written book about the pursuit of love and happiness. The writer skillfully uses the medium of fictional travel-writing to convey some very poignant and beautiful truths about people and life. It was very easy to lose track of time in the elegant, thoughtful writing. Without spoiling this wonderful book, Jeremy encounters a number of diverse and remarkable characters on his journeys and while he learns about love, we do too. This book beautifully captures the fact that travel isn’t just about geography: one’s spirit travels too, and with every new place, new sight or new friend out universe and our mind expands. Jeremy encounters people from a large number of different backgrounds, but they all teach him something worth learning. This is a book with a lot of heart. If you’re looking for a read that carries a depth and wisdom in every page, then you’ve found it.
Absolute must read! Like Eat, Pray, Love -- only with a man (finally!). The book takes you across the world, raises thoughtful questions, and inspires you to go higher, whatever your beliefs. I loved the masters that showed up throughout. And the main character was a serial conversationalist (which I could identify with). The writing is poetic, witty, mystical at times, and revealing. Messaging too. It spoke to me and made me think about ‘the one thing I came here to know.’ Loved it! Finally, a book from a man that gives us girls hope. Buy it! Read it! Then try not to be moved to, well, move. Jeremy Braddock, you rock!!!
An elegantly written debut book about finding one's worth in the world, not through others but oneself. With each chapter, it not only introduces adventure by bringing readers to different countries but also provides readers with deep and inspiring life's takeaways from simple experiences. This would be a go-to book for one who is either in search of their higher self or finding a sanctuary to recharging one's life. Looking forward to the next book from the writer!
A book filled with adventure, love and inspiration… Writer has done a great job in making every chapter exciting and in every one of it lies a meaningful truth about life. What is important is that, I could relate to the book which makes it even more interesting… Definitely a recommended book!
This book should be read by all! Its similar to The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho because it touches your heart in ways you wouldn't expect. The Longest Distance is a beautiful combination of love, travel, and greater meaning. This book gave me a better perspective of life.
Inspiring, heart-opening, this is partly a novel about spirituality and philosophy, and partly just a story about one guy and his search for some answers to big questions. A must-read for anyone with a yen to live from their heart not their head.
The author had me captivated from the very beginning. The first scene had me right in the story connecting with the main character. This book took me on an adventure to so many places building my emotions and the need to read more with each new stop along the way.
Jeremy, the main character, really is just like any of us. He knows that what is taking place in his life is not working, but yet does not have the discipline to change it. Through the struggles, the peaks and the in betweens, Jeremy continues to show that when you have had enough, change will happen.
This is definitely a must-read for anyone who has had any questions about themselves, about love, about a higher self. This book will bring your heart to surface with the need to share with others. Even if you do not have these questions, I still highly recommend this book. There is a message for any reader within this journey.
It has a beautiful flow of the language throughout the book that brings inspiration and loving to anyone who reads it. I found it a truly inspirational and motivating novel. The author has a creative way of weaving in quotes and phrases from historical figures throughout the book. The way this is written is truly beautiful.
The Longest Distance is an eclectic mix of genres – it’s a spiritual guide, a literary work, a mystery, an adventure, a love story, and a self-help book all in one. Main character Jeremy Braddock is the kind of person I could instantly connect with. We meet him at crossroads in his life. After coming face to face with tragedy, he goes off to search the answers to a series of questions about life, truth, love, and more. This is the start of an adventure spanning all around the globe, the journey of a lifetime.
The story was intriguing, but the real message the book wanted to portray was the most interesting part about the book for me. The writing is descriptive, lyrical, and the story flows well, mostly thanks to the writing. While the main character goes on a real journey, it’s his spiritual journey that offers the most, and that we learn from the most.
I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this book, since it falls outside my usual reading niche, but I did. The story never slows down, the writing is solid, and overall, it’s just a good book. Recommended to anyone who has questions about life – and isn’t that just about everyone?
This was a great journey for me to take and had many things for me to learn while on it. This book made me inspired, motivated and ultimately at peace with myself. The main character is quite entertaining and very witty. I highly recommend this book to anyone as it has great messages that are worth taking note of.
"Jeremy travels the world (literally) in search of something ...truth, peace, a missing piece of his life's puzzle, love, light, even God maybe, but above all himself. He meets some wonderful teachers who give him different insights along the way. Some of these he embraces for a while but then moves on, distracted by a conflicting need for the right woman to share his life with, also by his desires and a 'lower order' of love. On many occasions Jonathan loses himself as these elements criss-cross his mind like a maze. His journey is one few aspire to and even fewer are successful, yet success requires sacrifice - letting go of something (or someone) which (or who) appears to be 'right' - possibly the love of his life. To read this book awakens a deep yearning for a higher nature of truth and love. I also enjoyed the flavours of different cultures in this book."
Very creative writing and word choices - elegant in the rearranging of phrases for deeper meaning. It's a kundalini-type enlightenment, all experience, little new information on the intellectual level. Still enjoyed it, though I found the beginning very hard going and wondered where the author went after his awakening.
The title “The Longest Distance” appealed to me as I enjoy travelling and thought this would be an interesting read.
Boy, I certainly was not disappointed! Right at the start, it was an adventure through the African savannah with a life-and-death situation and that started a journey around the world, from the US to Venice, Finland to China, quite reminiscent of “Around the World in 80 Days.”
In essence, it is a book that defies conventional genre and unlike any I have ever read, part adventure, part romance, part inspirational. As the protagonist, Jeremy, embarks on his journey, it opened a door within me that led to my own inner travels.
That was what’s remarkable about this book, as to how through Jeremy’s travels and experiences, it also triggers within me memories of my own past and opens up windows long closed and forgotten as well as shedding new light on dusty recollections. While Jeremy searches for his answers, I am also led along to seek my own answers about life and love. In this sense, the book is rather personal and intimate, and one can easily relate to what Jeremy is feeling and going through. It is about life, after all, and what makes a life worth living.
There are several layers to the book, which is quite ingenious. An exciting physical journey, not unlike an enjoyable travelogue that really makes me want to go on a roundtrip around the world, but also overlaid with a deeper, philosophical journey that provides snippets of Western and Oriental insights along the way, from Descartes to Confucius. Importantly, it resonated with me and I think it asks the most fundamental questions about existence that we all think of from time to time, but never really got to explore deeper as we struggle for breathing space in a concrete, urban jungle.
Overall, this was an immersive and enjoyable read, almost meditative and highly contemplative. The prose is clean and simple, the pacing balanced and steady. I only wished that the book was longer and there could have been deeper explorations of the different cities, people and cultures, as Jeremy travelled around the world. But perhaps, the “Longest Distance” is better off "short."
This book- wow. So I think it’s important to note that although this is a spiritual book, it does not lead you down the road of religion. Some people might be scared off thinking that that this may be a way to get you to subscribe to a religion since the author talks about ‘Him..’ or something greater than ourselves. In reality, this is about someone searching for peace, enlightenment and direction in their life. It’s super entertaining as you explore the world of travel, entertainment, love, relationships and the inner workings of different characters. I definitely came away feeling enlightened and more open to love and acceptance of myself and others. Great read! Be open to seeing things like you never have before.
