The Directives is book #8 of Joe Nobody’s widely acclaimed series, Holding Their Own.
A leaderless, exhausted federal government is pulling out of Texas, leaving 9 million survivors of the apocalypse to fend for themselves.

In an attempt to fill the void, the Alliance of West Texas prepares to step in. The ruling council establishes five directives; Energy, Agriculture, Transportation, Communications and Security.

Follow Bishop, Terri and their friends as they struggle to implement these priorities and save millions of lives threatened by anarchy and famine.

Directives is a collection of three novelettes that take the reader along on a fast paced, action packed adventure through the post-collapse Texas landscape. New heroes will emerge, and old friends may fall.

Joe Nobody

Joe Nobody (pen name for the author who wishes to keep his identity confidential) has provided systems, consulting and training for the U.S. Army, Department of Homeland Security, Office of Naval Research, United States Border Patrol as well as several private firms and government agencies which cannot be disclosed.
He is currently active in this area and for the security of his family and ongoing business, wishes to remain anonymous.

He has over 30 years of competitive shooting experience, including IPSC, NRA, and other related organizations. He has been a firearms instructor and consultant for over 30 years and holds the rights to a United States Patent for a firearms modification.

Joe initially became involved in helping private citizens "prepare" at the request of his students and clients. A conscientious instructor, he would always inquire as to why they wanted to learn certain skills or techniques and often the response was to prepare for more than just simple home invasion or self-defense. If you ask Joe what his greatest attribute is, he will tell you he is a "problem solver" and uses his formal education in Systems Engineering to this end.

"As the economy worsens, world tensions rise, and the modern media propagates bad news faster than ever before, more and more people want to prepare. I wrote HOLDING because it allows me to reach more of the good folks who are concerned about their security. I want them to sleep better at night knowing they have a plan of defense should the 'Event' ever occur."

Very good continuation of the story. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

The small alliance of west Texas is spreading out across the state. This one goes into the gulf region around Houston and a few other small towns. The main "bad guys" in this one were an interesting touch. The author managed to stay original, not just having the evil overlord who took over the town. There is a little of that, but it's not the whole book. The second town they go to was excellently crafted. And the final location provided for an enthralling conclusion to this chapter in the series.

I strongly recommend the Holding Their Own series to anyone. It isn't purely survivalist, apocalypse, or anti-federal. It's an appetizing blend of them all. The author displays a touch more "writer" perspective showing through in the intricacies of the story elements, but it doesn't take away from the stories, as it does with some authors.

In My Not So Humble Opinion Joe Nobody stepped away from the formula that made the Holding Their Own series a bang up read. The book: The Directives is a good read, just not a thrilling read. Joe's writing style is an easy read and I thoroughly enjoy his books. The only reason that I gave this 3 stars was because it was more of a blueprint type of book versus a typical survivalist book.

Like the rest of his books, Joe Nobody has succeeded in playing with my emotions. I anxiously wait for one of his books to come out and once it has come out, I loose all self control and devour very quickly. Before I know it, the book is over and I'm back to anxiously waiting for the next. This roller coaster of emotions should be the aim of every author and Joe Nobody has succeeded mightily.

Holds up in an A+ Series

A different plot approach to the survival, warring run-and-gun typical of this series. The over-arching plot focused on The Directives- large-scale policy implementation for society to get back on its feet. I enjoyed this book just as much as every other in the series.

Better and better

I'm several books deep in this series now and I dread the day I have no more to read. I grew up in west Texas and while the names have been changed, I know the towns very well. Played football against a lot of em. If tshtf in the manner described in these books, I could imagine an alliance forming just like this.
