In the Find, Joel is a young man living on a farm. After a prank on his sister, his father punishes him for the summer by having him dig out manure. Eventually his father discovers a dinosaur buried in a field and enlists Joel and his brother's help in digging it out.

This is a coming of age story about Joel, his dealings with his father and brother, and his fears. Ultimately it is a short novella but an interesting one in showing how a young man deals with "the find of a lifetime" and ultimately the disappointment when things don't go as expected.

This is a book from one of my favorite authors (Lena Goldfinch) and well worth a quick read.

NOTE: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

THE FIND takes place in the early 1900's. Joel is punished for a prank he played on his sister. His punishment is to shovel manure until he reaches the top of the corn silo. The time spent shoveling causes him to regret his actions. When his father makes an amazing discovery buried in their corn field Joel is beyond excited. The find could change their lives forever.

I really enjoyed THE FIND. I liked Joel's character. The reader gets to see him change from a childish prankster to a repentant young man willing to own up to his mistakes and take responsibility for his actions. A pleasant short story.
