Well, I probably won't finish this series. These characters are just getting too overly sweet and gooey with the lovey dovey stuff. And the heroine wasn't nearly as likeable this time around. I didn't find anything about this story believable, or even memorable really. The H/h didn't have any real chemistry and I didn't come close to buying into their instant "connection". As for the "mystery" around Bree's building site, it was over the top and the way she handled it was pretty ridiculous. What is it with people not following basic rules of safety? Anyway, before I jump on my soapbox regarding TSTL heroines, I'm going to give this two stars, one extra for the fun of Elle and Drake's wedding. Other than that, I was pretty disappointed in this one.
An entertaining better second book in the series. (Audible Whisperync Review) I enjoyed the story, It was better than the first book. It is an easy fun read. I liked the heroine Bree, she was a strong female character, beautiful and quite witty at times. She had some spunk for sure. I always enjoy an strong female character without the TSTL moments. She didn't really have any of those. A bonus. I liked the hero of the story, Logan too, He was handsome, smart and just got hooked on Bree from the moment he saw her. We also go to know him more as the hero of the story much more than the in the previous book with Drake who seemed to fade into the background. So that was a nice change this time around.
The had so me pretty good chemistry together and there is a very very mild sex scene but the sexual tension is there.
The story line and plot were good, a little mystery, Lots and lots of great dialogue throughout the entire book. I enjoyed that you continue to get to know characters from previous books that you know are going to get their own, So yes I am going to read the next book, because I really want to read the fourth book, which is Mallory's story. I think that is going to be a good one to look forward too.
As for the narration, I like Amy McFadden, She is good she does do a decent job in the men's voices for the most part. She does seem to be getting better at it. She does read with some emotion and that is always good, Her reading voice is nice too. Work on the male voices a bit and it would help out the narrations quite a bit.
My mom loaned me the book via Amazon and I got the audible for 1.99 so yes a great deal for sure.
Wow I think Kathleen can write no wrong words another brilliant book from her. When you about Bree in the first book you only see a bit of her you read in this one she's sassy, smart, brave and funny the stunts and tricks she plays on people made me laugh but the strength she holds is wonderful I wish I had it, when she finally meets her the architect that is keeping her build from progressing it under very unusual circumstances and she is not what he expected either but when they finally find each other's true self it's explosive literally and figuratively lol Brilliant can't wait to read more of this series
The book is too dramatic, how come Bree faced so many incidents in a short period and kept her alive?
Explosion, car accident, kidnapped….. It is too much! People who loves read not because the book can brings them what they didn’t have chance to feel, also sometime it is the real that make your heart in emotion, happy, sad, tears or LOL
For the book 1, chosen for power, I thought it is too much but it still nice and keep make me laugh when I read, however, I do find book 2 is too much, hope the coming book 3 and 4 will back to more realistic, like the Bluegrass Brothers
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!! Built for Power takes readers into the high-pressure world of construction and business politics, but at its core, it’s an electric enemies-to-lovers romance. Bree Simpson has worked hard to make a name for herself in her family’s company, but when a construction project in Atlanta is sabotaged, she’s ready to confront the man she believes is responsible—architect Logan Ward. The problem? Logan is not the enemy she expected. Instead, he’s the kind of man who makes her rethink everything she thought she knew about love and trust. Bree is a force to be reckoned with—fierce, intelligent, and determined to succeed in a male-dominated industry. Logan is equally compelling, with his mix of charm, competence, and protective instincts. Their dynamic crackles with tension, first as rivals and then as undeniable lovers. The mystery surrounding the construction sabotage adds an exciting suspense element, keeping the plot moving at a brisk pace. While the romance is the heart of the story, the thriller-like twists make it even more compelling. The chemistry between Bree and Logan is explosive, and the way their relationship evolves from hostility to partnership is deeply satisfying. With strong characters, sizzling romance, and a thrilling dose of suspense, Built for Power is a fantastic addition to the series. Fans of workplace drama with a heavy dose of passion will love every second of it!
Yes! Bree and Logan had all the suspense, action and danger blended with romance that I was hoping for in this series. Bree is a strong and fierce woman in a male world and Logan is well known in his world after striking off on his own due to family conflict. They have a less than good meeting and quickly realize all is not what it seems and Bree is in danger. The meeting of the families was hilarious, especially Bree meeting Logan’s dad and brother. Bree knowledge and sense of right/wrong was front and center which added to the storyline. The other Simpson siblings are present and we see more of Reid than the first book. Shirley is a gem and Mallory and Drake were also instrumental to this story and healing development the world more. The ending opens up some great story lines for Allegra and Finn & Mallory and Reid!
Love, love, love, Kathleen Brooks' writing. All of her books are filled with such interesting characters. No one writes family and friends as vividly as she does. I like that with her books you can depend on a good solid story that is highly romantic, sexy, suspenseful, and filled with loyalty, love, support, and humorous moments! I have not read one of her books that didn't leave me satisfied and with the contentment you get from reading a really good story!!!!
Absolutely love anything Kathleen Brooks writes . Not one time have I known who the perpetrator is until the end. Her books always draw me in from the beginning. Once I start a series I have to finish all books in the series. The fact that each of the siblings has such a different career keeps each book new and interesting.
In this second installment Bree Simpson heads the construction branch of the family business. She has struggled all of her life for acceptance. This continues as she strives for success in a male dominated field.
With her Pink hard hat Bree has the hot up and coming Center to build, but her competitors have it in for her.... like the Architect that keeps changing the plans, Logan.
Great reading about Brew. A strong women making her way in a mans would but someone is trying to stop her. Her architect shows up and saves her life. Together they find answers and love.
Built for Power is the second book in the Women of Power Series by Kathleen Brooks which combines strong, independent women with romance and a dash of adventure… Happy reading! 📚✨
Overall Amanda score: A EEEEKKKKKK!!! This book was fantastic! And I did not see that deception coming! I mean I knew it was coming from somewhere but dang! Bree is a contractor that wears a pink hard hat and heels but is totally unbothered with getting her hands dirty and building things. Logan Ward is part of a family that he wishes he could escape from, and who could blame him?? They fight against powerful sources that just does not want to be outdone by a girl. The ending is bittersweet and perfect. This is a must read. Just not for my BFF that hates romance novels. :)
Another enjoyable read in this fine Series. Love the powerful women, the strong family ties, the crazy older lady, and the strong hot men that captures the hearts of the heroines. This story has some suspense, a twist, and quite a list of suspects.
This is the second book in Kathleen Brooks Women of Power series and it was great. Kathleen Brooks writes her stories a little differently to most romance writers (I think) as she has her characters fall in love very early on in the story and they generally stay together and the drama in the story isn't so much to do with the relationship but with the characters life. This has been especially evident in this series and I am really enjoying it. Bree is a great character who can build by day but get all girly when needed and has great belief in herself (which is a theme I am also enjoying in this series - where the woman are confident) then we have the hero of the day Logan who saves Bree the first time he meets her and then they start falling in love from that point on. For those readers who have read the first book never fear we get to see the effervescent Shirley who made me laugh so much in this book with her love for younger man. We also get to see the future books for Allegra and Mallory who's books I can't wait for! So if you are looking for a book that has humor, comedy, romance, drama and some mystery don't look any further than this book (or any of this authors other books)!
I love Kathleen Brooks' work and this book is no different. This series is great and I love the Simpson sisters. This one focuses on Bree Simpson and her construction business. As a woman in a man's world, Bree has fought for everything she has. In this book, she is facing an enemy who is trying to destroy her and take over her current project.
Enter Logan Ward, the elusive architect that Bree thinks has been deliberately stalling her project. Bree meets Logan when he saves her life. The attraction they feel for each other is instant. Logan finds himself wanting Bree more and more. Even though Bree wants Logan as much as he wants her, she continually tries to pull away from him to maintain her independence.
As the threats to Bree and her family grow and the danger becomes greater, Logan and Bree find themselves falling in love with each other. Logan is determined to help Bree find the threat to her life and her company and protect her at all costs.
The story unfolds with quite a bit of drama and suspense. There is some humor thrown in along with the hot chemistry between Bree and Logan. Kathleen Brooks does a great job once again of keeping you entertained from start to finish!
The second book in the series, “Built For Power”, has the sassy and energetic Bree Simpson butting heads with the charming architect Logan Ward.
Bree heads the Simpson Constructions, and is facing major delays and threats in her new project and blames Logan Ward for it. Logan Ward is tired of the harassing calls from B. Simpson and decides to fly down to Atlanta, and face the devil and set things right.
Logan ends up saving Bree from a construction accident, and sparks fly as they get to know each other. With danger hovering over Bree, he decides to stay back and smooth things and test the waters with Bree and a future.
I love when alpha men are confident of themselves and their powerful partners, giving them the room to pursue their own careers, and ready to support and help when needed. And I love when they are assertive and ready to be the first ones to confess their feelings. Logan is such a sweetheart and Bree sure keeps him on his toes.
“Built For Power” is another fast and passionate story as Logan and Bree are ready to build their future together. Kathleen Brooks does an amazing job of penning her characters to a T, that you really can’t find anything wrong with their perfect imperfections.
WOW….I love this book! Kathleen Brooks has done it yet again. This book pulled you in from the beginning and you were drawn into the suspense of the threats and attempts on Bree that you were trying to figure out in your head what was going on and what was going to happen next. I absolutely LOVE Logan. The way their story unfolded from them thinking the polar opposite of each other to the meeting was very funny as well as romantic. The preconceived idea in his head that she was a he and hers the he was a pompous ass. The determination of Bree to try and solve the threats against her while trying to protect her family and keep them safe was suspenseful in itself. She felt like she had to do it on her own but her family and Logan were determined to help her. I kind of suspected about Marcus but I was happy with the handling of it by Bree. I thought the way his family treated her and assumed she was after his money to the way she exposed herself to them was hysterical. The marriage proposal was perfect and the quiet wedding was just their thing. I look forward to the next installment and Allegra’s story. I highly recommend you reading this series it is well worth the read!
I absolutely love Shirley, and the signs that swing from her walker! That old woman has me laughing every time she shows up in the book. Actually, I love every member of the family. Well, except for maybe Aunt Flory. She’s kind of a biotch.
I like that this book had not only a great love story but some mystery and suspense. Love Mallory and her kick-ass attitude. Loved seeing Elle and Drake and Reid, the protective brother and Allegra and Margaret, the loving mother and Mary, who became a whole new person in book #1.
I hated Trevor and wasn’t sad when he got his. And I really hated Jeff and absolutely, positively, without a doubt, loved what happened to him.
I’m going to start Allegra’s story now but after reading the epilogue of this book it sounds like it might be a book of her keeping secrets and a lot of angst, and I hate that. I hate any book where the heroine keeps secrets because she trying to “protect” a giant of a man, Finn was a football player, for petes sake.
There wasn’t much sexual tension, which I miss, in this story but there’s some nicely written sex scenes.
Another fabulous story in the Women of Power series. I love the character development and that these fictional woman are great role models to woman in general. Bree can take care of business and handle her own as well or better than any man. She's got plans for a big project but decides to keep changing them.
Enter Logan the architect from London who is determined to find out why his well though out plan keeps needing changes and in an unexpected turn meets Bree and saves her.
If you love mystery and romantic suspense with a healthy does of humors you will love this book as much as I did! Can't wait to see what's next when the next book is released. This author keeps the story lines fresh and fun and these books are definitely a must read for me!
Sweet, sassy, and sexy this series will keep you laughing, inspire you and take you on an all around awesome journey with characters who capture your heart and mind.
